United KingdomSo sad
Visajourney helped us so much in the years it took to get him his permanent residency.

He got his conditions removed for permanent residency last month. He left me the same week he got it. All that time... all that money... everything. He left me for a girl he'd been carrying on with at work.

:(

The pain is unimaginable.

Hi All!
I just found this thread and wanted to add Stephen and I to the list! I live in Birmingham, Alabama and my fiance, Stephen, lives in Helen's Bay, just outside of Belfast. We sent in our K1 in May and are just trying to wait it all out as patiently as we can! We're hoping everything will be sorted so that Stephen can come over in October. That's if everything goes realllly smoothly!
I've found so much useful info on this website and have come across some really nice folks as well. Best of luck to everyone!!!

Right, so as NVC still has no record of receiving our case which was approved on SEPTEMBER 20 FFS!, I called them AGAIN this morning and talked to a live person (thanks, Annette! MUAH!). Her name was Kelly and she was great.
She said it should've been there by now (finally, an HONEST response). She told me to send a copy of my NOA2 directly to the NVC. I am going to do that today. So, those of you who have been waiting more than 3 or 4 weeks for your case to get to the NVC, you might want to do the same.

United KingdomAnyone in Alabama?
Hello friend,
I am born and raised ALABAMA. My wife is Filipina. Our sons are dual citizens. We live in Birmingham. Rose loves the people here. We have never had any problems here. When we returned to the Philippines for two months our neighbors check our home every day, fed our cat, collected out mail and even drove our cars. We have keys and codes for our neighbors homes and take care of there home when they are away. Our neighbors are great.
Rose and I have not encounter any problems because of our marriage. The only problem that we sometimes have is when people ask me about my grandchildren. The "grandchildren" are my children. I am 64 and our sons are; James, three-years and John, three months. Rose is 38.
Remember that the South is known for strong religious beliefs and hospitality.
I am not certain what part of Alabama you will be assigned. Mobile is an international port and has people of many cultures. Huntsville is the center of America's space research. Engineers are everywhere and from everywhere. M.I.C.O.M. is located there. Fort Rucker is the center of America's helicopter school. These places are inhabited by people from all over the world. Alabama has four automobile manufacturing cites here. The old South is NO more.
But what remains is a strong very strong religious culture. Several time Alabama has by wide margins voted against a lottery and all other types of gaming. Every state around Alabama has a lottery. I think that really describes the moral values of Alabama.
You will discover a world of friendly people and economic boom.
Of course there is the climate. Rose waited almost four years to see snow. This last winter was her first. The summers are hot. Alabama has rivers everywhere and many lake. The Gulf coastal region has beautiful beaches.
You will love Alabama if your are seeking a life of solid moral values where your neighbor is part of the family.
The greatest problem in Alabama is the lack of funds for the public school system. Most schools are funded from a property tax and out property tax is very low.
Wrote too much but have no fears about life in the South.

US Citizenship General Discussionthree years from????
Green card just approved. Now the naturalization journey begins.
First question is... My wife meets the qualifications to apply for naturalization after three years as a permanent resident. Three years from what date? Does the time start from her port of entry or from when she filed for the AOS or from the date the AOS was approved, the date on the green card?
Please write that it is from the date she applied for the AOS, it took 25 months for her case to be approved. That would mean that we have to wait only 11 months, I hope, to apply.
Any advice on the naturalization journey will be received with THANKS.

US Citizenship General DiscussionApply for Citizenship while condition is being removed?
Read page 18 from Form-476, A Guide to Naturalization, at the USCIS website under naturalization and there it clearly states that the three or five year timeline is from the date you became a permanent resident.
Turn to page 7 and there it shows how to fing that date on your PGC.
If you want the USCIS will mail you the Guide or you can download one from their site.
Hope that this answers your question or guides you in the correct direction.
We are waiting for that three year period, only 35 months more!!!!
Good luck.

Since the wait is SO LONG to remove the conditional status on his green card, can we apply for citizenship at exactly 2 years and 9 months? Or do we have to wait until he gets the condition removed and gets a new green card before applying?

Thanks!

Check this link for more info
I quote:

"How is Filipino citizenship lost?

The more common ways by which Philippine citizenship may be lost are:

1. By naturalization in a foreign country;
2. By express renunciation of citizenship;
3. By subscribing to an oath of allegiance to support the Constitution of a foreign country, and
4. By cancellation of a certificate of naturalization as a Filipino citizen.

I am a Filipino who was naturalized as an American citizen. Do I have dual citizenship?

No, you do not have dual citizenship. You lost your Filipino citizenship when you became a naturalized citizen of the United States. Also, because you do not have dual citizenship, you cannot file a Petition for Recognition mentioned in Question 5."

Moreover, from another link:

Scroll down a bit to "how does one re-acquire Fil citizenship?"

With the passage of R.A. 9225, what happens to a natural-born Filipino who becomes naturalized in another country?

A natural born Filipino who becomes a naturalized citizen of another country is deemed not to have lost his/her citizenship under the provisions of the said law.

How does one re-acquire Filipino citizenship?

A natural-born Filipino who lost his/her Filipino citizenship through naturalization in another country may re-acquire Filipino citizenship through the following process:

"

From the looks of it, you have to re-acquire your Philippine citizenship. It would be best to contact your Phil. consulate near you.

go to the Philippine Embassy web site in Washington D. C.
www.philippineembassy-usa.org/home.htm
click on download forms
click on Reacquisition
print out the two page form and follow instructions
any questions phone the Embassy. You will discover a government office that is friendly and helpful. They helped us a Filipina/American couple, file for dual citizenship for our two sons born in America, they amended my wife's passport, they registered both our sons' birth with the Philippine government and recorded our American marriage with the Philippine government.

Should we take our sons, 1 year old and four years old?
When Rose passes will she be allowed to take the oath there OR ...?
We have copies of our tax returns but they are not certified. Is that OK?
Any suggestions will be most welcomed.

Hi,
I've been through the naturalization process in Atlanta. I'm not sure about the question regarding bringing the kids or not, I did see a few people who were there with (their?) kids, and generally you can bring your partner or a friend. What's important is that they have some sort of ID, I did see people getting turned away for not having proper ID with them.
Remember though, it may be a long day, if you i.e. have your interview at 09.00am, you might be done by 10.00am, and the ceremony might be at 02.00 or 03.00pm. I wouldn't want to be there with a 1 and 4 year old, with not much to do around the area. If you have a place to leave them safely and happily, I'd rather do that, but that is just my opinion.

In Atlanta they usually seem to try to get you in for the oath ceremony in the afternoon on the same day if you pass the test in the morning and your interview is successful. So be prepared for that and enjoy smile.gif

Yes, simple copies of the tax returns will be fine, just bring the originals with you also, just in case they'd like to compare them.

Good Luck with everything and really enjoy it!

THANKS YOU

hi bislig2alabama!
You should call the USCIS because I got the yellow letter stating to bring other documents after I received my interview date letter. The yellow letter means is additional documents to bring. And during my interviewed, the officer never asked me about it. I voluntarily asked her if she needs these documents because I got this yellow letter and she said "no,I got the copy already". So make sure to call the USCIS and tell them the situation because it's hard to miss the interview date. I hope this will help!Good Luck!

Thanks, we do plan to call. But you know what a problem it can become when you attempt to phone immigration. crying.gif

Venezuela isn't so hot either, wife needed to get a new state issued photo ID, required for all citizens of Venezuela. I could have gotten one for my by placing a fresh hundred US dollar on the counter, but what would I do with it? In one country, dealing with idiots, in another, corruption.

Was touched at my wife's oath ceremony, reciting the oath to serve this country, reminded me of when I said the oath to defend my country, when I was drafted, except back then, if I didn't say it, would end up in jail. Often wondered if that oath would stand up in court, but again, don't fight it, just do it.

She has her driver's license, that is no problem, NOW.
But I would guess that the green card is their ID! unsure.gif

Must be somebody smoking crack at the USCIS, a state photo ID wasn't required last year. My wife got her driver's license using her green card as an ID, so the state driver's license is based as a secondary form of ID from the green card.

We had a hell of a time with our DMV renewing her license when my wife had an expired green card with that one year extension notice, agent said, what in the hell is this, wouldn't renew it. Fought with the governors office for a week, they finally renewed it, at first for just the life of her extension, said, BS, they gave in and gave her the full eight year renewal. But when she did get her USC certificate, went back in with that, we don't have to see that, all she has to do is to check the box on the application that she is a USC, just responed without thinking, can't an illegal also do that? No response.

Also while standing behind the yellow line, heard the agent talking to a guy without proper ID, hey I was behind the yellow line, wasn't suppose to hear this. Agent told this guy to go home and bring in a utility bill for identication, what a weak form of evidence that is I said to my wife. But apparently someone from the USCIS heard that thinking that was a great idea, so the USCIS started that bit of pure nonsense.

whistling.gif eys, just smile
Since I have dealt with nuts before, yes, I am inferring the people at the USCIS are a bunch of nuts, you don't argue with them, just smile and try to please them. You certainly don't want to use logic nor common sense, if they want you to bring in your driver's license and a utility bill, you do that. They do have the power to hurt you.

Hi, it's nice to see members posting from the same state as I am. I am from Walker County of Alabama. And I'd like to say good luck for your upcoming interview. I am also an American citizen aspirant and sent my application in the 28th of August. Since you mentioned about the inn you're staying close to the office, do you mind telling me which one you're cheking in? Hopefully, I will be having my interview sched before the year ends. I am currently waiting for my biometrics schedule which I am crossing my fingers that I'll get it next week.

Anyway, I have a 19-month old boy and we're taking him with us. My husband will take care of him while I'm inside and I hope he's not going to give him headache, especially now that he's so mobile. I am having a hard time finding a baby-sitter too especially that he's so attached to me...dread the time when he starts school, can't picture how it's going to go.

Anyway, good luck and hope u don't forget to post your success here, moreso that we're going to be interviewed in Atlanta. Just so curious how they do theirs.

Good Luck!!!

Great to hear from a neighbor. The name of the inn is Hampton Inn Atlanta -Northlake. It was a suggestion from another visa-journey member. She has just completed her interview there. I checked it on the net and it is very close.
Then we will visit the International Food store there. Stock up on Filipino food
Will continue to post activity on the time-line page. Most are completed in less than five months. The time-line page is where we loated the Filipina who suggested the Inn and gave us an idea about the Atlanta center. check out that page at the top of Visajourney's page.
Yes, we know where the biometrics office is here in B'ham. Been there a few times, Ha HA
I know some about Walker County, Jasper. Attended a junior college there, many years past!
Do you know about the Filipina/American Association here? Also a Filipino couple runs a Balikbayon Box service. They pick up all over Alabama.
Take care and thanks for the connection

If you don't succeed in finding a babysitter, I can reassure you that there were young children at the office for both my test/interview and for the Citizenship Oath ceremony. It would be nice if you qualify for the same day oath -which Atlanta sometimes offers if you interview early in the day.

Thanks for everything. The boys will go with us. If there are any problems I will take them outside. We have walkie-talkies to communicate wwith each other when we go to the malls. I can leave and she can call me when she is ready. The inn is so very close to the office, I think they will connect.

And I got my cousin from the Philippines visiting here now until December, hopefully I'll finished till Dec for my citizenship & passport(or not) so me and my son could go back home to Phils. with my cousin for New Years celebration.

Though... I live in Winder, Barrow County .... about 1hr or not more than 2 hrs (in a terrible traffic) to reach downtown atlanta. All roads are in highway it just that, where in Rural area of North East Georgia. rose.gif Let me know, since it's only 1 day event.

But all the best, and hopefully you get the oath the same day too, since you got a very early interview.

Thanks, we will just take the boys with us. We will stay in the Hampton Inn Northlake the night before and go to the interview fresh in the morning. I can take the boys outside if there is a problem.
