John has told me that when he was in the Navy, his group would watch Dazed and Confused, and every time the kid with the long hair would touch his face, they would have to drink.

They were hammered by the end of the movie!

Just watching the news, and Metro was saying they may close the outdoor stations tonight! They figure there are about 85,000 people who used them today, so they need to make a decision quickly so that people don't get stranded because they can't get to their original station!

*sigh*

I love snow, and am actually looking forward to more, but Summer can't get here soon enough, so I can start complaining about the heat and humidity

John's work was open yesterday and today.

Money money money...that's what it's all about.

My boss lives in Stafford County, where they didn't get as much (still a bunch, but not what we got), so I think his judgement is cloudy when it comes to actually working.

Guaranteed he's working from home.

Still no flakes here yet...we'll get it before DC will, so I'll keep you all updated :D

Snow should be starting soon...the avalanches of snow falling off my roof will begin again (It literally shakes the house)

Trying not to go stir crazy...haven't really left the house (besides to shovel the snow) since last Friday.

Oh, and my boss wanted me to go to work today...to a client that is closed. His response? You have keys.

Ok...Is the parking lot plowed? Not driving all the way out to Fairfax from here only to find I can't get to the building.
Just found out that the lot isn't plowed, and I would have had to wade through 2feet of snow to get to the door.

Glad I stuck to my gut to stay home and work remotely.

So the snow in DC et al.....

  • Why did they close schools, offices, etc long before the snow started falling?
  • Thank you for having a snowstorm before I get there for my house-hunting trip. :)
  • Please arrange for warmer weather by Feb 22nd as I do not own any winter clothing. :(
  • Who has pics??

VA, MD, and DC are notorious for cancelling school and such before storms. Or if they get a dusting. I remember 2 years ago, my county canceled school for the next day when the threat of a storm was coming. We didn't get anything and the kids had a free day off :bonk:

Pics?? You ask and ye shall receive :D

So we got one car out last night...still have to dig out the other. I did fall down the steps, and bruised my back pretty bad. Landed on the edge of the step. Ouch.

I haven't seen this much snow from one storm since I was a kid! Of course, we didn't care about how bad it was, we'd all be out sledding :D

We thankfully didn't lose power.

Yay...more snow on Tuesday! They say it might be another 6"

Sounds like you did well minnew!

I've had a couple of interviews in the past week. The first one was for 1.5hours, and was very comfortable, but I didn't feel like I did as well as I could have, or have done in the past.

The second one, I showed up 15mins early, and the interview was over by the time my interview was supposed to start.
They asked 4 questions.
But I feel the 4 questions they did ask, I did well.

Weird.

Here's hoping we both get something! :)

I'm actually partial to Wustof knives.

I have a Soduko knife I bought made by Wustof, and absolutely love it.

We've gone quite a few times.

I was almost tempted to ask the kitchen where they get them from

I was at Wegman's today, was getting some lunch meat from their deli, and saw they had Canadian Bacon made by Hartmann's (?)
It was bigger in size than some of the other brands I've seen, so I got 1/2lb for dinner.

It was actually very good!

Of course, when I ordered it, I asked for Back Bacon and got a funny look :D

And if anyone is near the DC area and wants poutine, try Jimmy's Old Tavern in old town Herndon.
Just ask for extra gravy and cheese (they actually use curds). It's sooooo good :D :D

My engagement ring was a Christmas present in 2007 (9 months after we were married). It wasn't important for me to have one when we were engaged. I'm not one to wear a lot of jewellery. It's a simple round cut 1/2 carat that is perfect!

His ex when they were together told him that it had to be a $3000 ring. Not me. He picked it, and did wonderful because it was exactly what I would have picked if I were looking at rings.

He got kudos for that :D

Just finished playing with the Wii, and man, even though you don't feel like you're doing much, I worked up a sweat!

Trying to find the Wii Fit Plus bundle has been a challenge! No one has them in stock.

So I picked up the Wii Sports Resort yesterday and have been playing that all day. Even John (who said the Wii was for me and he would never play it) has been playing and getting mad when it beats him

More TKD tonight, hoping I get my belt so that I don't feel 'naked' anymore (our school starts you off with no belt).

I haven't felt this good (or this sore!) in a long time, and boy have I missed it!

So a few updates:

I've been going to Tae Kwon Do 4-5 times a week, and absolutely loving it.
They are letting me test early for my first belt along with a few other people (mostly kids)...I think I'm the only adult testing early.

For our 3rd anniversary, John got me a Wii :D

Can't wait to get some of the fitness games for it, but I set it up today and was boxing, and wow, do you really get a sweat going!

So I'm down .5lbs this week, but I was expecting such a little loss.

I'm trying to get rid of all of the bad things in the cupboard before I go and buy the 'good' things. I don't like throwing money away, and with me doing TKD, I feel better anyway!

Last night, I was the only beginner adult there besides the Grand Master's son, who's a Master, and his assistant for the night, and she is a national gold champion in sparring!

It was like a private lesson though which was awesome, and I got my legs to stretch further than have been in a long time, so I surpassed some things that I didn't think I could do :)

It's amazing the high I get from going! I'd definitely go again tonight, but unfortunately, I wouldn't make it home from work on time, and I'm actually sad about that!

So Tae Kwon Do has been going really well, and I don't hurt as much as I did the first week, but any pain I did have was a 'good' hurt :P

My goal was to do 3 classes per week, but I'm enjoying it so much that I'm going to try and do 4-5 classes per week.

Not really sure about my pounds lost yet, but I'm not concerned about just getting the exercise in and eating sensible foods for now. I'll worry about my weight and scales eventually though :P :D

I want to lose but after the ballooning after hurting my knee I need to lose 15-20. First time in my life I have been at an "unhealthy" weight for my BMI.

I hear ya! I hurt my knee in Oct 2007 playing hockey (first time in nearly 20 years as a goalie did I have a knee injury) and it took almost a year to heal (torn cartalidge).

I gained most of my weight not being able to do anything because of it.

I hate the way I look, as I've never been this heavy. Glad I'm doing something about it, by becoming more active again.

Well, I had been doing the WW online thing starting last June, and lost about 15lbs....then my hours at work were cut back, and I became very stressed. I am a stress eater.

I gained it all back, and then some.

So now, I'm back with the WW online, when the pop that's in the house is gone, that's it, no more, just water from then on.

And John and I start our 3-year commitment to Tae Kwon Do tonight. They want you there a minimum of 2 times a week, but I'm aiming for 3x. Plus I will continue with hockey, as will John (of course I married the skinny boy who can eat anything and won't gain a pound *evil*)

I'm hoping to eventually get back to my fit hockey days of 175lbs, so with TKD and eating better, I may just get there again! :)

CanadaAT&T Nation with Canada Plan
John and I just got iPhones (I got the 4 and he the 3GS) with the Family Talk Nation with Canada.

We have Vonage for home use, but we travel and are out so much that with our old Sprint plan, I couldn't phone my parents or family without paying 45cents a minute. When my mom had her double lung transplant in April, I was using my phone A LOT at work, and racked up quite a cell phone bill.

Plus, we were month to month with Sprint, and John's phone was so old, we technically had a family plan, but I was the only one using it :bonk:
And with Sprint, as soon as we crossed the border, I didn't have a cell phone anymore. I didn't pick up on a 'friendly' carrier. With AT&T I won't have to worry about that, and won't have to pay roaming fees when I travel up there.

I've been quite happy so far with it. It's more expensive than our old plan (have to have the data plan with an iPhone), but John gets a 17% discount with AT&T through his work, where we only got 12% with Sprint.

Just a tip too...ask your cell phone provider whether they have discounts for certain things! It's not just work related, they also have them for military, credit union memberships, etc

CanadaThe Annoying Co-Worker Thread
So boss emails me today to tell me my schedule for next week, only to be condescending and asking me why I haven't done something that I didn't even know about.

Plus, because of all of the snow we've received, I have only worked 1 day remotely from home.

I'm supposed to be paid on Monday (the 15th) but because it's President's Day, my bank is closed, so when things like that happen, he'll cut a check for the previous banking day. I emailed him last week about that, and NEVER got a response back.

I don't even know if I'm going to see him tomorrow, and since he's too cheap to pay the fees for direct deposit (which I used to have) I don't know if I'm going to get paid on time...seeing as I have a car payment due, and no money in my bank account, that's going to go over well.

I'm so angry with him that I want to cry right now.

I'm frustrated with the fact that I've been lied to countless times about how much money I'd be making and going full time.
I'm frustrated with the fact that I can't find another job.

I just want to scream.

CanadaDoes anyone have DirectTV instead of Comcast?
QUOTE (thetreble @ Oct 5 2009, 09:10 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Well one thing I did notice was that the dish network gives you the option to either go on a contract or not. Which, obviously, we would not!

J & K, I already called Comcast actually to get a price reduction a few months ago which we did. All of our promotions had ended and I got a bill for $260.00. Come one..for two tvs, the internet and the phone?? The phone and the internet are only 30 bucks combined. It's the TV that is horrible.

I got her down to about $160.00/month, but that was getting rid of my DVR and all the special channels except for HBO and the Fox Soccer Channel.

But, I can't live without the DVR..I tried over the summer, and it was easy because there is nothing to watch, but now that all the shows have come back my husband and I like to watch quite a few of them certain nights of the week that are on at the same time.

So, I got my DVR back.

They just nickel and dime you at comcast. I mean I know most companies do that, but I find them equatable to Rogers or Bell. They charge me 6 bucks a month on top of the $9.99 for the regular HD Box, and $14.99 for the HD DVR box, for an "HD Conversion Charge". I mean, come on... between the phone/internet modem and the boxes, they cost me like $40.00 a month!

I don't know..

Holy #######!
I have 2 HDTVs and internet and I have all of the specialty channels, plus HBO, Showtime, Starz, DVR Service and 2 HD/DVR boxes and all I'm paying is $107/month! Now granted...I have my own Modem so I don't pay for the modem charge, and I have vonage which is only $33 a month...so all together I'm paying $140/month for all three.

Why the heck are they charging you for an HD Conversion???? I don't have that charge at all!
Maybe because it's a difference area of Comcast...I know that they have different promotions for different things.

I know that when our promotion ends (which I have had extended twice now) I always threaten to cancel the service and go with another company, but I've been happy with Comcast and really don't want to do it, but if it's going to save me money, yadda yadda yadda the service rep usually gives in and gives me a really good deal laughing.gif

I would try calling them now anyway, and see if they can do any better, or you're going to switch to DirectTV...see if that will light a fire up their butt to keep you as a customer!
