K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLong time for NOA 1
Here's something my lawyer actually did that helped me: he told me if my check was cashed they would print my case number on the back of the cashed check. Luckily, my bank posts my cashed checks online so I could access the case number. Then I went online to register for online updates on the USCIS website. Soon after it was cashed, I got my NOA1.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMY CHECK WAS CASHED TODAY TOO!!!!!!!

YES!!!! Finally something! It's about time.

I can see the back of my check online but I don't know what number I am supposed to be using. What is the format of the receipt number? What should I be looking for?

Any help would be appreciated.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGOOD NEWS for a RECALL who made it out of CSC!!!
 Oh yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I received a I-797C Notice of action about a week after they approved my case. CSC appears to be handling it differently. I have not recieved anything from NVC yet, although it has only been 5 snailmail days since they got it and sent it to the consulate. I was elated once I finally found out that the USCIS no longer had my petition in their possession.

Cheers and congrats! I'll have a rum and coke to you later!

Oh yeah, they also used my old NVC case number also.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat have you learned from all this?

Basically, I was quite naive before when it came to dealing with the government. Now I am more skeptical about everything in life, especially in dealing with politics.

wow, lucky you (or maybe not).

I've always been skeptical of the gov't! Even more so now that something thye passed truly affects me.

I guess I was pretty darn naive too. I had NO idea this kind of ####### happens. I knew that papers got lost and mistakes were made, but screw-ups of this magnitude, seriously I had no idea. I went through this kind of ####### when I was getting my work visa in Mexico several years ago. I thought this kind of sh!t only happened there, not here!!!

I should have said "federal government" in my original statement. It was quite a screwup on a grand scale, I have to say I have been pretty lucky up until this point in my life. I have dealt with incompetence in government and business before but usually just on a local scale. (MVA, insurance companies, but even they were ultimately accountable) This experience will probably influence who I actually vote for in the near future just for the fact that this is the only recourse that is left at this point. The next question is who?

Thanks to everyone here for the good help and advice in dealing with the interview process in Mexico. My fiancee received her visa and did well in her interview. I posted some details in the embassy review section about our trip and the process we went through. I will ask her to post some more details about the interview if she can.

I must say it was quite challenging mainly due to the fact that we were a recalled case and there was some confusion about her name due to a previous marriage. The reason it took 3 days for the visa to be granted was that the namecheck had not been initiated on a previous name and/or they had not opened the mail from the NVC yet and started reprocessing our case. In any case, they allowed to let the interview to go forward due to our diligence and being well prepared with our docs and evidence. The consulate had also told us both by phone we could come anytime for the interview at this point, so we did.

Blessings to all! (F)

Just got back from my trip to Juarez to see my fiancee. Since we were NOA2ers we actually got the medical and the bank deposit done on this trip. There were no problems at all doing either, the bank and the medical office (blue one) were within walking distance of one another. Not much waiting time at all for the medical, we arrived around 7:30 and were out by around 9 and came back at 2 to get the results. All they needed to see was the notice from the consulate and her passport.

Actually, the toughest part of the trip was navigating the roads on foot, pedestrians have little or no rights and the drivers are very aggressive. Also, the roads and sidewalks can be quite dangerous due to lack of maintenance. We did find one pretty nice place to eat called Mision de Guadalupe near the Holiday Lincoln(where we stayed). We also had no problems crossing to El Paso which had another great place to dine called Cafe Central. The best way to cross is by foot, then take taxis from either side of the bridge to where you want to go. Now I can just try to be patient to get this crazy NOA2 mystery solved.

 :hehe:

According to the consulate website, nothing has to be sent to the consulate, just show up with all of the stuff they ask for in the packet they send to you.

http://ciudadjuarez....v/wwwhivfi.html

I have also read somewhere that once you are there if they have your case and you have not gotten your packet yet, you can get a confirmation notice from them to do your medical and your interview but don't take this as policy as it can change at any time probably. The packet is available on their site. Be careful when you go on it that it is the fiancee visa packet you are looking at and not some different one.

Hi Lewis
I was referring to the information that needs to be sent from NVC to the consulate. Once they have the case, I was under the impression that you have to send back the checklist in the fiance packet before you can go to the interview but I think now that I am incorrect. Since you can download the letter that accompanies the fiance packet, shouldn't that be enough to get into the interview? On the Mexico forum several posts indicate the need for a "interview letter" hence the need to go to the information book.

Does anyone know if this is necessary or if you can get into the interview by simply showing the downloaded cover letter from the fiance packet? This would definitely eliminate the need to wait for the packet.

I can't say for sure but a friend of my, also a fellow VJer, went to Ciudad Juarez before she got packet three in the US and before her fiance got packet three in Mexico. I'll try to ask her about the mysterious letter. I know for a fact that they went (and got the visa) before either person had received a packet. Let's all check into this!

I'm a NOA2er that received the actual packet and "letter" from the consulate, they arrived together in the mail. I actually got mine before she got hers in Mexico! I can tell you the packet is identical to the one on the consulate's website. Then our case was recalled like everyone else after March 6th. OUCH!

You need the letter to get the medical and also the interview. I believe you can get the letter directly from the consulate window (don't know much about this) if your case is there already but have not gotten notification by mail. Otherwise, wait for the mail.

As I look at the letter, it basically just identifies the fiancees case by case number, full name, and birthdate. So yes, you definitely have to have this letter but the packet can be downloaded.

I'm actually going to Juarez for a short visit with her next week and we may do the medical to get it out of the way. This IMBRA thing messed us all up, I guess I'm lucky my love does not live on the other side of the world. Well, I will give more help if I can, just ask.

My fiance and I will head to Juarez for his interview later this summer (at this point I'm still thinking I'm going to go for moral support!) Just curious if any advice/hints on getting plane tickets for the Mexican fiancee. My fiance lives in Guanajuato but will probably fly from Guadalajara since it's much cheaper. When I search here for his ticket everything is like more than $500. Any tips? Mil gracias.

We got a roundtrip flight from Guadalajara to Ciudad Juarez for around $503.00, I'm going down to meet her in about a week. I always have good luck with sites like expedia and travelocity, and yes, it is probably a good idea to leave from Guadalajara.

Welcome, my fiancee will also be going through Mexico which means she will have to go through the Ciudad Juarez consulate (the only one that does fiancee Visas in Mexico). Here is a link: http://ciudadjuarez....v/wwwhivfi.html

Juarez is unique in that there is no interview "appointment" for fiancee Visas. Once your petition is approved and you are notified by the consulate, you are permitted to come to the consulate for the interview.

This is how I got started with this site, go to the top of the Visa Journey home page and click on the FAQ and guides tabs, they are very helpful. I know it can be overwhelming, but once you absorb some of this info you will have a better idea of what to do.

There is a regional forum also devoted to Latin America, but I have learned much more from the forum that we are using now.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs NOA2 paper needed for interview?
At our recent interview, they actually kept a copy of our approval notice that we brought along. I noticed they placed it inside the visa envelope that will be presented to the POE people. IMO, it's always wise to bring a copy of it to the interview. Our case was a recalled one that went through Mexico, so it was not a typical situation. (no scheduled interview and confusion at the consulate about how to handle our case)

Right on with the previous responses. Good to go, I also used SKYPE chat logs and receipts and itinerary printouts from Expedia, no problem at all. Gift receipts and snail mail correspondence also helps.

See the previous poster beat me to it.

Why are people "afraid" to ask questions? I just don't get that. This is an anonymous forum. What do you care if someone attacks you for asking a stupid question? Chances are, at least one person will respond with a good answer. So ignore the "arrogant veterans" and get your info.

Yeah, you are right! Asking and finding answers to questions of all kinds is what makes VJ what it is. Most people here are quite helpful and polite. There's always a chance of a flameup no matter what you post.

Thanks everyone for everything! I just talked to my fiancee, the plan is for her to come up within 1 month after she finalizes the sale of her house. Wow, sounds pretty frustrating. Good luck with it! It's ridiculous at this point for them to make that 30 day comment, IMO. My consulate's attitude was basically it was not their responsiblity to contact me at all because they had already sent the fiancee packet before. No email or phone calls in response to mine. I kept calling them until I got confirmation. I'm pulling for you and everyone else who has yet to be approved or have their petition confirmed to be at the consulate.

IMBRA Special TopicsRECALLED PETITION - UPDATE

I think people were right before in that they (NVC) send mail in batches, probably on the beginning and ending of the week. I got lucky, mine got there on a Friday and was sent out that same day.

I spoke with the State Department this morning trying to track my case and the lady confirmed that the NVC does send stuff out in batches to the consulates. How often these batches go out I don't know.

It seems it may take a little more detective work for us recalleds in some of these cases due to the fact that this situation has never happened before. Did you try the NVC/DHL tracking method or call the consulate yet? sorry if you already mentioned this before, this thread is longer than the Great Wall of China!

IMBRA Special TopicsRECALLED PETITION - UPDATE

I just called NVC and they sya our case was sent to Paris on the 22nd (yesterday) as well.

BUT I just checked the DHL website and nothing was sent to France yesterday. The website info was updated this morning, 8:30.

So what am I to think?

CRRRAAAAAPPPPPP!!!!! That's what I think!!!!! Maybe in NVCspeak, we sent your case off to Paris today means, "we started thinking about getting your file into an envelope and the next few days it will likely make its way down to the mailroom, etc......: Who knows? Il y a beaucoup de merde!!!!

I think people were right before in that they (NVC) send mail in batches, probably on the beginning and ending of the week. I got lucky, mine got there on a Friday and was sent out that same day.

HMMM, my old French lessons interpret your expression this way "That is a load of sh*t!". :P I still have not recevied any snail mail notification from NVC or the consulate. All of my info has been garnered by phone calls to the NVC and consualte. My fiancee and I made multiple calls to the consulate to finally confirm it was there. I also used the NVC tracking method which I found very useful. The NVC also confirmed by phone that it was sent on. The consulate also said we actually won't get anything in the mail and to just come on down for the interview because they had already sent us a "fiancee packet" before.

August has been a good month for a lot of us and I hope the rest of the recalleds get their RFES and cases completed soon. Blessings to all. (F)
