CanadaMontreal K-1 Interview December
On Packet 3 - it says to complete the 4 forms and send the checklist in saying you have obtained it but not to send the originals from the checklist.

DS-156K says that it needs a copy of the Birth Cert, Police Certificate, Support Form etc. (which are documents on the checklist)

So - does this mean I have to send copies of those in with DS-156 and bring the originals or don't send any copies just the forms because the originals are coming with me to the interview?

Sorry for that sounds stupid...

On the P3 checklist it asks if medical examination was obtained

I thought I arrange the medical once the interview date is assigned? I'm confused...

I have had a recent medical from my own doctor but not the one they want yet..

so do I check yes? do I not?

no the medical must be done by a panel physician that the embassy only pick..

not sure where you plan on doing it but in montreal there is only 2.... medisys or seiden

you can check yes but you have to go get your medical before your interview
and be ready to pay around 200$ maybe more

Yes, this I know - but I arrange it once they arrange my interview date yes? Do I do the medical well before the interview? or can I book it for the same day as the interview?

CanadaPacket 3

I have all the forms ready to send in except the DS-160. I have the confirmation receipt ready to print out but not the actual form. It was submitted online and I don't remember seeing an option to print it. Is there a way to go back and print it or is mailing the packet with the receipt good enough?

I think they wanted the print out and the receipt.... (but I'd have to look, i cant remember.. Its at home and Im at work right now)

You should have a copy of the form even if it was electronically submitted, for record purposes, but I'm not sure if theres a way to go back and print it.

Maybe you can email/contact them and see if they can forward to you by the confirmation number you have, the document for your own records?

Canadado we have to wait in person till end of the day to get the visa on the interview date?
Yah, I agree - I don't think lying or even lying by omission is ever a good idea. I think if you're honest and up front things usually end up going in your favor anyway.

Good luck!!!

CanadaDS 160

It specifically states that it is for NON-immigrant visas (i.e.: K-3 and K-1). CR-1 is an immigrant visa.

Well that's good to know too =)
Maggie_KenythFemale02010-01-13 11:24:00
CanadaDS 160

Im applying for a cr-1. Do you know if I will need it for that type visa or is it for people applying for k-1 visa.

That copy and paste from the Embassy Info that you linked - it says right under the list of forms:
If you filed for CR-1, only DS-230.

So... I'm guessing you just need DS-230?..... :\ I don't know anything about CR-1's so I don't want to say for sure, but that's how I read it.

CanadaDS 160

Does anyone know what a ds 160 is and if I need it. I went on the US Conslate website and this is what I found.

Important notice
Beginning October 22, 2008, all applicants applying for nonimmigrant visas in Montreal and Vancouver must use the new DS-160 application form, which is accessible on https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/.

After completing the new DS-160, the applicant will electronically submit the application and will be providedwith a confirmation page that includes only limited biographical information and a bar code. Applicants must bring this confirmation page with them to their interview. Please note: if the online application has not been completed fully and properly the applicant’s case cannot be processed and a new interview appointment will be required.

This first pilot version of the DS-160 will only be available in English. Future versions will allow the user to see translations of the site in other languages, including French.

I needed it - it was on my list from Packet 3 - but I am applying for a K1.

CanadaMontreal February Scheduling...

I probably call too much - the fortunate thing is today my wife's here on a visit so not as brutal. One nice thing would be if they could leave the friggin script play by play to rest and actually communicate with me genuinely.

That said those folks have always been really nice considering they get all kinds of people who are desperate/frustrated/angry and still manage to keep it consistent (i.e: not flying off the handle).

I definitely call too much  But yes, they have all been very sweet to me.. so I am grateful they take the time to not only answer me but to be kind to me as well.

CanadaMontreal February Scheduling...

We received our interview letter today!!! We are scheduled for Feb 10. Strangely enough I got a reply regarding the interview being scheduled to an e-mail I sent a week before Christmas about an hour later. But hey who's complaining! Congrats to everyone else who got dates this month and our hopes and prayers continue for those still waiting that they will get a date scheduled soon!

Congrats and good luck!!!

CanadaJust wanted to say Thanks

My wife and I are still yet a while to go before we get done with this Journey, but I wanted to give a special thanks today to all of ya'll here in the Canada forum in particular. This process has driven me up the wall a number of times, and its good to have a bunch of great people to relate to, outside of my wife of course (who is just awesome and makes this thing worthwhile). It means a lot, and I hope I can stay active and potentially useful to others in this same situation.

I can't wait to have my wife (and soon to be dual citizened kiddo) here in Dallas with me.

Its been a little over 6 months now since USCIS first received my petition, so not doing so bad!

I too want to say thank you. I am so glad to have found and landed on these forums. So much support and help and information. Any questions I had were answered happily. My paperwork has also gone through without any RFE's which I owe to these forums - so thank you everyone for your kindness and patience.

Good luck to you all!

CanadaGOT OUR DATE!

We can only hope. There's another girl with the same Montreal log date as me that I'd love to see get her interview. I want EVERYONE to get their interview but she had her heart set on an April wedding and darn it, I want that for her!

would that be...meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee? I assume it's me, even if it isn't I'm going to pretend it's me because it fits   because I sure am happy I am getting my April Wedding! (pending approval of course)

I <3 you. So sweet to me.

We wanted April 25th because that is the day Kenyth first told me he loved me.. and we saw it fitting to be the day we join as one.

CanadaMontreal Medical Question

No, I've never heard of this. How the heck are you supposed to get them if they won't send it? Did she call only one of the two offices on the list? There are only certain places that you can get it done.

I've not heard of this either. One office expects me there 5 days prior to my interview to be able to pick them up before the interview day and the other office needs only 48 hours to ensure my results are ready before my interview date - but they aren't booking just yet for my month. Maybe it was the one that only requires 48 hours, and they feel more comfortable handing them over than mailing them?

CanadaMarriage Certificate Needed?

I could be wrong but I'm thinking the marriage certificate would be for the person you are married to now. If you're not married (ie. divorced) it doesn't make sense that they would request that.

Okay good, I'm not married - I'm applying for K1. So - that makes sense, thank you so much =)

CanadaMarriage Certificate Needed?
Just wondering if I need the actual marriage certificate, it is listed on my Packet 4...

I have my divorce certificate, my stamped judgment for name change...

I gave the marriage certificate to the judge.

I don't really want to apply for a marriage certificate I don't want to keep....

I have the original non valid one that was signed off by us and the witnesses...

Please let me know..thank you.

My packet 4 came and it listed all the things to take with me... my question is...

If I have my divorce certificate and the judgment stamped for my name change as well... do I really need to take the original marriage certificate? I applied for this certificate once before for the divorce..and give it to the judge.

I really don't want to pay for a marriage certificate that I no longer want....lol

I have the original (non valid one) that the witnesses signed and we signed..

Thanks...

I put you on the list over on the March 2010 thread for Montreal (unless you are jmd77 in which case maybe you got a new screen name on VJ). It is a long wait but at least having an interview date in hand is somewhat reassuring.

CanadaK1 - Montreal April Interviews

There is someone in the IR1/CR1 thread - has an interview March 11, and a baby due on March 8. kballtex

He said there IR1/CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview p. 148 "
I've asked them about 15 times what our options are and they are thus:

"Q4: If I cancel my appointment when will I be rescheduled?

A: Rescheduled appointments generally occur 2 to 3 months from when we were notified of the appointment cancellation, due largely to our high volume of cases and workload. This may vary from case to case, due to visa number availability and the visa class being requested."

I think we're actually considering rolling the dice. "

Any idea what you are going to do ?

CanadaMontreal Hotel Review - Plateau Royal
Montreal Hotel Review - Plateau Royal

This is locationed on Ave Du Parc. The hotel is clean and cheap, the staff is very nice. It wasn't anything fancy but it definitely was better than I expected from the outside view. I had a nice sized room with King Bed. There was a door to a fire escape as well, which I was able to go smoke on ;). They served muffins, coffee, cereal, croissants, and toasted from 7:30am - 10:30am. There is also a microwave down there if you wanted to use it.

I stayed for 9 nights and 8 days. Including my flight to Montreal and back to Halifax with Hotel, I paid $900.

Again, I loved the staff, one girl in particular, very nice, and knew I was expecting mail and even though she wasn't working the day it came - the next day she made sure to ask me if I received it.

It's close to a Pizza Place, Grocery Mart, Two Gas Stations and an A&W. It is also right next to Mont Royal and the Park. Medisys and Embassy are in walking distance (10-15 min walk). Basically it's right down the street, turn right on sherbrooke walk 30 seconds and you're at medisys. Walk straight down to St. Catherines, walk 10 seconds turn the corner and you're at the Embassy.

There is a bus stop across the street, which has buses constantly coming! It's 2.75 and the number 80 takes you straight down to sherbrooke and if you wanted to keep going to St. Catherines for the Embassy. Again, once the bus drops you off you're seconds away.

For those who wanted to save money. The 747 Express bus from the Airport - 7$ and takes you right down town. (I forget the main street name but it starts with an I think it's Rene Levenques or something). You walk up the street Bluery (which turns into Parc), grab the 80 and you're dropped off at the hotel. Same thing to go back to the airport.

CanadaMedical Review - Medisys
Hello, I just wanted to give a quick review of this.

It was an easy process - mostly just a long wait. As long as you have your vaccination records and passport/divorce papers, etc. It goes very smoothly.

I just also wanted to note, if you ever have been on medication, such as an anti depressant, bring a letter from your doctor - even if you are no longer on it!!

I was on paxil BRIEFLY (shouldn't have been on it to begin with) almost 10-11 years ago now...and Medisys wanted to do a deferral letter to the embassy unless I provided a letter from my doctor confirming I no longer take it and do not require it. Thankfully, my doctor even over the easter weekend, prepared that letter and faxed it to them first thing in the morning when he got to work. Medisys then approved my Medical.

I know it says it on the documents you receive, but I guess I didn't think 10 years ago or more would require any information.

- Mostly they do a regular physical on you, they glance at your privates. They xray your chest. You get one vial of blood drawn, weight, height and eye checked and you're asked a lot of questions and you fill out a questionaire before you begin. That's pretty much it.

Overall the staff was pleasant and helpful.

Oh.. I had my medical on April 1st. They worked over the Easter Holiday so it was Ready on the Monday/Tuesday
I picked it up Wednesday Morning.
