CanadaJust a random Montreal question...

How's the timeline looking these days for K1 interviews? Back in January, I was hearing it was something like 4-6 months to get your interview but I also heard they were pulling in some more workers to alleviate some of the back up. Is it any better now or not so much? About how long after the NOA2 are people getting interview dates, and about how long after that is the actual interview?

If you check out the timelines of those in the K-1 April Montreal and K-1 May Montreal threads you may get a better idea. This last week many of us who returned packet 3 in Jan. and Feb. received interview dates in May.

About 4 to 6 months from NOA2 date seems about right though.

CanadaDS-160 and DS-156 Forms
Does the Canadian beneficiary actually include the DS-160 question and answer document in the packet three materials that are returned or is it just the DS-160 confirmation page that is returned? The packet 3 letter for K-1 says Form DS-160, one copy available online at blahblahblah. Is the online submission enough for the question and answers or does the Canadian beneficiary send that multi-page printout too?

They are in the Canada wiki

I didn't go to them individually but they are at least links to them there.

Canadatreavel after interview
Yeah, my fiance' wondered the same thing. His appointment is May 3 and there were some weddings the next weekend he wanted to attend with me (not our wedding of course but family friends). We have basically decided he will just stay in Canada and not visit so we don't have to worry about being turned back at the border until he decides to make his POE at the beginning of July. If he would be coming for a long visit, it would be one thing, but just for a weekend, it just isn't worth the unknown of it to do.

CanadaAnyone from Canada get a K-1 visa??
There are lots of us waiting for K-1 visas here in the Canada forum. Depending on where you live, look for people who are going to Vancouver or Montreal which are the two consulates that approve K-1 visas in Canada. If you are in the east, check out K-1 people waiting for interviews in Montreal

I would suggest going to the end of the thread and working your way back since the current waiting people are at the end. It is a wait but worth it!

CanadaWhere to donate a used 55" tv? any ideas?
A private (or public for that matter) school in the area may be willing to take it and may even have parents/faculty/students that would come and remove it for you as a service project.

CanadaHappy Easter!
The public schools in my area of Michigan always take spring break the Friday before Easter (Good Friday) through the Friday after Easter. My private school doesn't. My Canadian fiance' was surprised since he has the day off. I think Canada does have more holidays than the U.S. where "everyone" is on vacation. My fiance' was like, "Well, I am sure all the stores will be closed on Easter Sunday. " No, reduced hours, maybe, but probably open like any other day.

CanadaIs it an AMERICAN thing???
I live in Michigan as well. I call my coworkers Mr. Mrs. or Miss dependant on marital status because it is a sign of respect. My coworkers are often "You can call me Wayne (or insert other first name here)" but it just doesn't feel right to me. I have a family where I am "Miss Carla" to their kids but they are from the Southern U.S. originally. I think regionality has a lot to do with it.

CanadaK1 - Montreal April Interviews

They are already giving out May dates...anyone else with April?

I guess not. I figured the 3 people with May 17th, 19th, and 20th would have had April dates because they had their packet 3's back before my fiance' did. Unexpectedly the way Montreal assigns interview dates is not in a first in, first out fashion.

I put you on the list over on the March 2010 thread for Montreal (unless you are jmd77 in which case maybe you got a new screen name on VJ). It is a long wait but at least having an interview date in hand is somewhat reassuring.

CanadaK1 - Montreal April Interviews

I got my interview date for April 14 but .....

Problem my baby is due right around that day give or take 5 days....

What do I do... everyone who has reschedule there interview has had to wait longer for another interview date...
And I feel bad for my fiance cause he can only come up and visit so much and it cost a lot of money to fly... And another problem I have is that he is missing the son we had last April grow up....

What do i DO?

There is someone in the IR1/CR1 thread - has an interview March 11, and a baby due on March 8. kballtex

He said there IR1/CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview p. 148 "
I've asked them about 15 times what our options are and they are thus:

"Q4: If I cancel my appointment when will I be rescheduled?

A: Rescheduled appointments generally occur 2 to 3 months from when we were notified of the appointment cancellation, due largely to our high volume of cases and workload. This may vary from case to case, due to visa number availability and the visa class being requested."

I think we're actually considering rolling the dice. "

CanadaNeed some re-assurance.
As a K-1 visa petitioner, I have read that I need to have an "affidavit of support". Can I just vent that the I-864 has much clearer directions than the I-134? For the K-1, I only need to submit the I-134 correct? That is what it looks like from the directions in the example forms.
lilacvioletirisFemaleCanada2010-04-10 14:26:00
CanadaNeed some re-assurance.
I have just started filling out the I-134 for my fiance'. I am confused on question 7 since my derived annual income is above poverty guidelines for 2 people, do I have to list
  • How much is on deposit in a bank and does that include both my checking and my savings accounts?
  • Do I have to list the reasonable value of my personal property if my amount of money made in a year is over the poverty line for myself and my fiance' when I marry him?
  • Do I have to list my life insurance (and if I can't get "cash surrender value" from it would I list it at all?)

CanadaMoving items via UPack

Sweet! Over what distance is this move? Mine is from Ontario to California and so they're quoting $2200. Still better then Uhaul tho with gas and all that...

My fiance' is moving from Kingston, ON (where they have a terminal almost around the corner from his house) to Battle Creek, MI which is about 500 miles. The terminal on the receiving end is about 30 miles away but I can borrow a van to move the things that far that I couldn't take over the border. The quote was $631 plus $17 for "brokerage" fees when my fiance' actually called and talked to the people. Very reasonable. If we used the relocube, it would be a little over $1000 for the same distance. Since we are trying to save money, we figured we would use the terminal-to-terminal delivery in stead of the door-to-door delivery.

We used the online quote "creator" and then my fiance' followed up with a call and even a visit to the local ABF to ask if he could bring his things in on a Sunday (when they are closed). They were willing to work out an "open" trailer" that he can put a paddle lock on and then on Monday do the paperwork and put their paddle lock on.

CanadaMoving items via UPack
Thank you posting about the ABF upack website. My fiance lives about 5 kilometers away from the ABF terminal so he is planning to borrow a friends truck, take his stuff to the terminal and pack it there and the terminal in the U.S. is about 20 miles away and I can borrow a van to get stuff back that I couldn't borrow to take across the border. So we are doing the terminal-to-terminal delivery and it will be about $449 for six feet of space! No driving and worrying about fuel prices and no towing his car or having to bring someone else with me to bring his car and my car and a moving van back to the States. Yeah! Perfect timing for this post.

CanadaK-1 March Interviews !!!

Arabella's fiance had a note added to his file that stated he should be allowed to cross without activating his visa so that he could visit her over the holidays without moving yet. This was done by the Deputy Consul, I believe - the top guy at Montreal.

But realize, no matter what you are told at the interview, it is always up to the border patrol.

In some ways it seems like a lot less stress just to decide that he won't come visit me in the U.S. until he moves here. It will likely be 2 months after the interview that he plans to move to the U.S. No big "holiday" to really count on during May and June.

CanadaK-1 March Interviews !!!

SO my question... can he come to NYC with me instead of going to his mom's? I can put him on a flight, train, or even bus and have her pick him up, but if he can come with me, it'd be nice to have the company in NYC. I know they take his passport at the interview, but we both have NEXUS cards (which all of you should invest in - best $100 we ever spent), so he doesn't need his passport to get across the border. And he wouldn't be crossing with any ill intent - he would return to Canada after we return from NYC and wait for his packet to arrive.

But I feel like I'm missing some information that should stop this from being the plan, but I'm not sure what it is.

I am very curious about this as well. My fiance' and I both have Nexus Cards too. Since he doesn't intend to POE until July 1 and his interview is on May 3, is he going to have to stay in Canada because the visa is in his passport even though he could use his NEXUS card to go across the border without showing his passport? Are you planning to ask this question about your fiance' traveling with NEXUS at the interview? I will be very interested to hear the result. I just don't want to mess anything up now that we actually have an interview date and can start making forward plans.

Well I'm packing up now. I've checked and rechecked all my documents. Printed out the last photo and email from Kevin. I even put one in of him in uniform... hehe. Tomorrow I get on a train and friday is my interview. Wish me luck. Particularly considering Kevin already booked the place where we will be getting married. As long as everything is all done and over with and my visa is in hand by May 14th I'll be happy. Hopefully sooner of course. I'll post a consulate review as soon as I can on Friday for all of you having interviews in the next couple weeks.
