CanadaShe wants to return to Canada!!!
Nexus card is supposed to mean "trusted traveler". Last night at Port Huron the NEXUS lane had 2 border guards, one that opened all my luggage and examined it for contraband, and one who "talked to me". They found a ziplock bag of allergy meds that I had taken out of an almost empty bottle, and I got "harassed" about it. Thankfully I still had a bottle in my purse, otherwise I would have gotten secondary inspection. Totally unexpected.

I prefer going into Canada. They just look at me and smile and wave!

Yes, even infants need a passport. Seems ridiculous but is the requirement now (since Jun. 1, 2009).

OOH, VJ Canada. I check it out. I had basically not told anyone I was pursuing the K-1 visa except my closest family and friends because my fiance' hasn't told his boss yet he is leaving (Fiance' says he is "playing it close to his chest and btw he is the CANADIAN!)

He has all the cool electronics already and is bringing it with him to the U.S.A. I have good furniture so we are sticking with my furniture (although he is attached to his childhood dresser and his double bed which will go in the spare room). As for decorating, we have been doing that together. Who has the money to buy new furniture? Certainly not us right now with immigration and moving expenses and the wait for him to get a job in the U.S.

My fiance' just had blood tests done to determine what immunizations he needed although he said the doctor didn't call them titer tests. He couldn't remember what the doctor called them. Who wants to get poked for something you have already been immunized against?

I agree. It is all user inputted data. So if people update their VJ timelines when significant events happen, then it gives a better idea for others still waiting for those significant events (like their NOA2, interview date, etc).

Check out this page before he gets shots.
Immunization requirements for ages 18 to 64

If he is over 18 (i.e. 19) then he wouldn't need the Hepatitis B which is a series of 3 shots with some time intervals.

Canadapacket 3 hasn't arrived yet- what about DS-160?
I called the DOS and they said that the packet 3 was mailed on Feb. 3. The woman at DOS said to email them with my case number in subject line to ask them to resend it. The "auto-reply" says it will take 2 weeks to respond to my question. My fiance' and I will just complete the forms this weekend and he will take them back to Canada and hope that packet 3 is in his mailbox when he gets back on Monday.

Canadapacket 3 hasn't arrived yet- what about DS-160?
Hopefully it "really got to Montreal". That hadn't even crossed my mind since I got the letter saying it was sent to Montreal on Jan. 20.

As for form DS-160, I don't want to fill it out before "the government" expects it so I really want to know if the packet 3 was mailed or not. Today will be a serious DOS calling day.

If I call 202-663-1225 and talk to an operator (by pressing 1 then 0) will I be able to find out if my fiance's packet 3 is sent? Seems to be the case from reading through the K-1 people waiting for Montreal interview thread. Also it says it is only open until 5 p.m.? What time does it open in the morning?

Canadapacket 3 hasn't arrived yet- what about DS-160?
I have been harassing my fiance' to check his mailbox but after 21 days (since Montreal "likely" received our material from NVC), he has still not received his packet 3 letter.

He doesn't have a printer and we were hoping to do the online DS-160 form this weekend when he was down to visit me because I have a printer to get everything that is needed for packet 3 printed for him to take back to Canada with him. Could we fill out form DS-160 form without having the packet 3 letter or will that foul up the system?

What number would I call to find out if his packet 3 letter is "in the mail" from the Montreal consulate? I am just anxious to get the paperwork back to Montreal so my fiance' can be in line to get an interview date.

CanadaMilk in Bags
I grew up in Wisconsin (the Dairy State of the United States). My parents could buy milk in a bag at the Kwik Trip (a gas station convenience store) or from some of the local dairies. According to their website, Kwik Trips can be found in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, so for those lucky Canaliens in those states, go enjoy some wonderful milk in a bag.

CanadaWhat to get a Canadian man for Valentine's Day?
ROFL! Okay, some very neat ideas and He is in Canada still (go Montreal go), I am in the U.S. He is visiting next weekend (yeah!). We aren't married yet (still waiting on Packet 3 for our K-1 from Montreal and it would be an awesome gift for ANY DAY!). The long distance relationship gift website had some funny ideas. We are a "gifty" couple for the other "more ordinary days" and I was trying to get my mind going on something different.

The special note I will write in his Valentine's card will definitely mean more than any "hallmark" inspired text.

Redenvelope.com has some interesting ideas. The dart board for couples they have just might be the ticket.

CanadaK-1 packet 3 forms return
So we paperclipped each type of form together then paperclipped the whole package of paperwork together. They can two hole punch them. I had the little two hole punch at school but since it was a school holiday there was NO WAY I was going in just to hole punch 10-20 sheets or so of paper. Tomorrow the package will get mailed since my fiance's packet 3 letter was in his mailbox when he got home today. Yeah!

CanadaK-1 packet 3 forms return
There are so many sheets of paper to be returned with packet 3. Should the related forms be stapled together, paperclipped together or simply put in the envelope with no "attaching" device at all? I am trying to get my fiance's materials all ready to send to Montreal and I didnt' want to put a staple or paperclip if that would foul up the processing people.

What have others done?

CanadaFamily Day!
Being a teacher, I have President's Day off but it worked out equally well now that I learned that I am an immediate relative of my fiance' according to form DS-160! My fiance' had Family Day off from work in Ontario and took off last week Friday to come visit me. It was so sad to see him leave today and know that will be awhile before Spring Break comes for me and I can make a trip up to Canada. Yeah for Family Day though. I got to spend part of it with my "immediate relative" and it was a nice day.

Hehe, like a couple other people have also said, we totally do this too. I dunno about you guys but when we're talking and the clock hits midnight, we'll cheer and drop the number down. It's so dorky, but it makes us happy.

My fiance' and I totally do this too. He even gets so exact as to say how many hours once the week of our visit comes. I think it is cute. I totally LOVE it that we want to spend the time together and can't wait for the next time we visit.

394 x 305 is the correct size. That info posted before was from the Montreal instructions - and they were wrong.

Which Canada Post Expresspost mailer to take with you to the interview VJ Wiki
In purchasing Xpresspost mailers at Canada Post, please note the following:

Canada post offers 3 sizes of Expresspost prepaid mailers:

Standard - (26 cm x 15.2 cm) Letter - (31.8 cm x 24.1 cm) Pack - (39.4 cm x 30.5 cm)

You need the biggest one, you must provide 1 mailer for every 4 visas being issued.

• 394 x 305 mm size (39.4 x 30.5 cm or 15.51 x 12.01 inches
)

Thank you! I guess on the wiki, I always ended up jumping to the Montreal Consulate Instructions and missed the xpresspost mailer particulars. Wouldn't want someone to quibble over a too small envelope!

CanadaFebruary/March CR-1 / IR-1 Interview Discussion Thread
Well, as I converted it 12 inches is 30.48 cm and 15 inches is 38.1 cm so I guess the 39.4 cm by 30.5 cm is actually a 15 by 12 mailer (even though the mm listed in the announcement above would be bigger than 12 by 15). Okay, I will let my fiance' know 32 dollars is the way of it and if he makes a fuss I will say, "I want the your passport back asap! I want you to be able to move to the U.S."

If you do not have the right sized mailer..they will send you to a post office to buy it, nd then that may result in delays to you... and really...what is an extra 30 bucks if it means getting your visa sent to you as soon as possible???

Well, my confusion is now that the xpresspost envelopes come at the biggest in 394 mm by 305 mm (according to the online location) for the regional and national prepaid mailers. This is what is listed online. I don't see any for $40 actually (I think my fiance' was misinformed).

Can anybody point me to the correct purchasing location with xpresspost envelopes that are large enough?

CanadaFebruary/March CR-1 / IR-1 Interview Discussion Thread

Which Canada Post Expresspost mailer to take with you to the interview
In purchasing Xpresspost mailers at Canada Post, please note the following:

• The mailer should be the 314 mm x 394 mm size (12 inches by 15 inches)

• For return addresses in Quebec and Ontario, you may use a “Regional” Xpresspost mailer. All other addresses require a “National” Xpresspost mailer.

• The Xpresspost envelope(s) must be prepaid. The price will vary according to the mailing destination. Be sure to mention your return address to Canada Post staff.

• Address the envelope(s) to an address inside Canada. We cannot send completed visas to addresses outside Canada, including the United States. You must use the visa to enter the United States from outside of the United States.

• Mark the mailing label “signature required” to ensure that someone at the destination address has to sign for the envelope. This will ensure that your passport and visa, which are valuable documents, will not be left unattended.

Thanks to TM for this information!

I was trying to look up the envelopes since my fiance' was telling me he didn't want to buy it because it would cost $40. I don't know where he got that info, but my question the two xpresspost envelopes I am seeing look to be too small xpresspost prepaid regional envelop The biggest one is 394 mm by 305 mm. So its shortest dimension is 9 mm too short. At least it only costs $12.69. But if it is too small what then?

CanadaMore P3 questions...
Oh, good, since I just had a slight heart attack. We didn't put any picture on the DS-156. It says "Do not write in this space" so if figured I shouldn't put anything there. We just uploaded the picture for the online form and that is it. We will bring the 2 photos to the interview.

CanadaCanadian vs. American PB, and grocery stores
This last Christmas when I went to a Canadian grocery store for the first time, my jaw dropped. Granted it was a Loblaws. Upscale it would seem. Lots of deli and specialty stuff. I was surprised at the cost though. Much higher than I expected compared to things I normally buy. Loblaws actually reminded me a lot of Wegman's which back when I was in college and spent a summer in Ithaca New York was an awesome grocery store.

I LOVE Aldi's. When my Canadian fiance' tried to tell me that No Frills was the same as Aldi's, I disagreed. About the only thing that is the same is that you have to pay for your shopping cart when you go in.

I like natural peanut butter ( to get to the point of the OP). I love the Aldi brand of natural peanut butter. No hydrogenated oils or anything.

I am just glad that Miracle Whip exists in Canada otherwise my fiance' might have a hard time acclimating to the U.S because there will be no Hellman's "Real Mayonnaise" in this household.

CanadaMontreal Embassy
K-1 people waiting for interviews at Montreal

this is the thread with Montreal K-1 waiters.

Seems to be about 3 weeks wait for the packet 3 to arrive after the consulate receives your package from the NVC. Then about 4 months from when the consulate receives your packet 3 back from the Canadian citizen to an interview date. That is just based on several different timelines as of late.

My fiance' waited 3 weeks to get his packet 3 so that part of the wait was dead on based on current trends. Now we are waiting for packet 4 (letter with interview date) but I don't expect it for another couple of months (seems like people have been told the future interview date after about 2 months after Montreal receives packet 3 back).

Welcome to the WAIT!

CanadaWhat to get for US Citizen minor/son to travel to Canada?

-NEXUS Card:
Pros: Acceptable border crossing document for a minor. Can cross in the 'fast lane' (if me and and my husband get one too). Wallet sized.
Cons: Interview, questioning, background check. Additional photos needed?
Costs: $50. 5 years. ?? weeks wait (anyone knows how long it takes?)
Questions: How long does it take to get one? What happens during an interview? Is one's "country of birth/place of birth" listed on it? What happens for citizens of both countries..which country do they list for citizenship...both...one or other? (lol...maybe I might apply for one too..)

Ant

I don't know about a minor child (seems like I had to have a passport in order to get a NEXUS card but there may have been other acceptable proof of identity pieces) but when I went for my NEXUS interview, it took all of 45 minutes (I think I had to wait about 10 days to get into the location I wanted to interview at) and I had my card back within 7 calendar days. Going across the border, especially into Canada where all the border guard does is look at the card, look at his computer screen, and then wave at me (no more detailed conversation) to keep on going. They can stop to talk to you/check your luggage. I had mine searched on the way BACK INTO the U.S. and they found a plastic bag with a allergy pill I was "travelling light" with. Thankfully I had a bottle of the medication in my purse and I didn't get pulled into secondary inspection. All in all, I LOVE my NEXUS card. Totally worth the faster trip into CANADA and the reserved lane on the Blue Water bridge back into the U.S. All depends on your point of entry though. I went through Detroit Windsor and there wouldn't have been much help in getting to the NEXUS lane faster than the other car lanes, but it would reduce the interviewing at the border booth.

CanadaPacket 3

That's good to know... I'll try not to stress too much over it.

I'll add that when they say it is sent, it means it is sent to the mailroom.
I was told Packet 3 was sent on March 1st but the post stamp shows it was actually sent on the 5th.

I will have to ask my fiance' about the envelope his packet 3 information came in. I didn't even think to ask, but I think packet 3 sat in the mailroom for awhile too.

CanadaPacket 3
It took 21 days from Montreal receiving my fiance's packet from NVC to him receiving his packet 3 via Canada Post. We had all the forms ready and had it mailed back the next mailing day after he received it. Took from Tuesday to Friday for it to be deposited into the mailbox in Montreal (thanks to tracking on the Expresspost Regional Mailer that we used). Then it took 10 days for them to put in the computer but the DOS didn't "see it" in the computer for another week. Now the waiting for the interview date continues.
lilacvioletirisFemaleCanada2010-03-17 15:10:00
CanadaJust a random Montreal question...

How's the timeline looking these days for K1 interviews? Back in January, I was hearing it was something like 4-6 months to get your interview but I also heard they were pulling in some more workers to alleviate some of the back up. Is it any better now or not so much? About how long after the NOA2 are people getting interview dates, and about how long after that is the actual interview?

If you check out the timelines of those in the K-1 April Montreal and K-1 May Montreal threads you may get a better idea. This last week many of us who returned packet 3 in Jan. and Feb. received interview dates in May.

About 4 to 6 months from NOA2 date seems about right though.
