Canadaconfused? I-134 or I-864

In my packet 3 I was only asked for the DS-230 and DS-160... nothing else. The packet also says to fill out I-134 Affidavit of Support for the next packet/interview. No other forms. However someone who got a packet 3 just days before me was asked to fill out both DS-156/156K and DS-160. So maybe it depends on the couple?

I think some consulates are updating their forms. The DS-160 has the information repeated mostly from the DS156/156K. It seems that Montreal has updated their packet 3 letter, finally, to not be repetitive.

CanadaIn need of advice

I'm hoping that someone can respond to this post since no one responded to the first :(

I'm wondering what would happen if I don't enter before my CR1 visa expires. Do I need to reapply?

In short - I'm having second thoughts about moving to the US because of a medical condition where I may not be able to drive. My husband lives in California where there is very little public transit. He has an established business so us moving to another city isn't viable.

If anyone lives in California specifically Sacramento who can shed some life on public transit or anyone who can give me some advice on reapplying for the Visa or just activating then coming back ... ?

Any advice or comments would be appreciated! :)

It would seem like just activating it, going to visit your husband, and going back would be a possible option, so you wouldn't have to lose the money you invested in getting the visa in the first place. I am not a CR1, though and I am sure there are others who can answer better than me.

CanadaPOE Tomorrow!
Can't wait to hear when you are getting into the U.S. Safe travels! You can tell the people inside about the list, but like my now husband said, they didn't want to look at it at the Port Huron entry point. He imported his car and the border guard looked at the VIN number of his car and that was it.

CanadaNexus Pass

Other than that he said I was free to use the Nexus pass...other than when entering in on the K1 ofcourse.

My fiance (now husband) used his NEXUS card to enter the day he activated his K-1. He had called ahead to Port Huron and they said that it was okay, just to tell the border guard so send you to secondary. The border guard was like "you can't do that" but my fiance (now husband) said "I called and they said I could". The border guard gave him whatever my fiance (now husband) needed to go to secondary and said, "Okay, I don't make the rules." and sent my fiance to secondary.

USE YOUR NEXUS card! It makes the wait so much more bearable to get in the U.S.

CanadaHow did you meet?
Our story is an odd combination of online and in person. I have a female friend who lives around the corner from me named Susan. She and I are the same age and we have been friends since I moved to Battle Creek, MI 10 years ago. She and I signed up on a Christian singles website just because there were no eligible single men that met our religious criteria in town (most were divorced with kids or mentally unstable). Susan started chatting with this guy in Canada and she would tell me all sorts of things about him. I had ruled out Canadians because I wanted a spouse from the states so this guy had never come up on my searches. Finally the Canadian guy and Susan decided to meet up with each other in March 2009. Susan was getting cold feet sure if she wanted to get involved again (might have to do with her basement dweller ex-boyfriend, but that another story). She followed through with meeting the Canadian guy but she just didn't feel any chemistry, then Susan said to me, "Carla, Ron is not right for me but he is perfect for you. You need to email him." So being a good friend, I ignored her! If he wasn't right for her, why would he be right for me. Anyway, late April 2009 I finally gave in and sent him a "smile" on the Christian singles website. He replied with an email and we started chatting. By the end of May 2009 we were talking on the phone and making plans to meet for the Fourth of July holiday. He drove us down to another town in Michigan and we stayed with some friends of mine for the weekend and I introduced him to two of my three sisters. To say the least, Ron is perfect for me. I am so glad I gave in to the prodding of friends. Being married to Ron since July 11, 2010 is the best! It was funny the second weekend we were dating we went to see a pastor who was a family friend of Ron's. The pastor took Ron and I out on a lake in a little motor boat. While we were out there, the pastor basically told us that it is better for couples from different countries to go move to the country of the wife, or life in a country where neither of them are from. A year later, that pastor performed our marriage ceremony.

Pauley I am so happy you also followed up with a long story haha.

Long stories are the best! At least once in awhile.

CanadaK-1 May interviews Montreal !!!!

Still cleaning my place before leaving :)
If I dont get through tonight, I will be tomorrow morning for sure, we are gonna be real late with it

Hopefully you arrived at your destination and your POE went well. I can't wait for my wedding this next Sunday. My fiance' and I went to have engagement pictures done with our photographer and we are both happy with the few she showed us just on her digital camera. I can't wait to see the real things. Have fun settling into the U.S.A.!

CanadaMontreal Interview Times?
I will be looking forward to those that have been waiting for Montreal interviews before my fiance' to get theirs. Our package is on its way to NVC right now. I am looking forward to hearing when it makes it to Montreal even if it will mean waiting a month or more for them to open the mail and log its existence. PROGRESS IS PROGRESS!

Canadapacket 3
And a very helpful list it is. I am hoping the turn around from receiving the packet 3 letter/email to mailing the package back to Montreal is minimal. I am having my fiance' fill out all the forms on paper first (except the DS-160 which is an "online" form) so I can get them typed in and printed out for him.

What does the little automatic lock thing have to do with security? Maybe my fiance' will unlock his car while he is gone inside? Thanks for the heads up though, I will definitely tell him to leave it in the car or at his friends place where he will stay when the time comes.

I think I will stick with my Canadian man and the lack of drama in the Canadian forum. I can hardly believe the story linked above. LOL! Who needs drama when you can get a good laugh! LOL! I hope the woman is either making up the story or finds a sound end to it. Ah, yi, yi!

CanadaWhich Forums Do You Like to Check Out?
What does OP mean? I see it often and haven't found a good definition of it. I have figured out a good number of the other abbreviations. Some are just elusive.

As for what I read, I have to say, I am glad my fiance' is a Canadian. Reading about the other country hassles at the consulate where the K-1 visas are more likely denied just gets depressing (Casablanca comes to mind). I know I have to wait for my fiance' to get his Montreal interview but I think our ducks are in a row so it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

I just figured out the Portal thing and that is nice to see what other Canadians/Significant others of Canadians are posting about. I also read they K-1 forum (especially the October filers from California Service Center (since I am one) and the September filers from California Service Center (since I was waiting for them to get their NOA2's before me)). The Canadian regional forum has so much information and is really useful! Like the EI thread, it reduced my concerns over him waiting for his EAD and then having to wait to find a job by leaps and bounds.

CanadaK1 visa. wait for Vancouver office???
Which consulate your petition goes to in Canada is based on where YOU, the CANADIAN, live. That isn't clear to me from your profile. If you set your country to Canada, the Portal link at the top has some good links in it specific to Canada. Also check out the Canadian Wiki which says that if you live in Manitoba and west then you go to Vancouver and if you live in Ontario and east you to go to Montreal. Lots of other useful stuff on the wiki though. Good luck.

Don't do it! I went to ebay last night to buy a subwoofer for my fiance' and have it shipped to my U.S. address to get "free shipping" and spent about 1.5 hours looking at things I was interested in purchasing.

I am definitely going to get my fiance' to look into the two different ways that seem to be presented for transferring money though to and from a U.S. account. With Canadian EI, it will definitely be a time saver while we wait for his EAD to be processed.

If you fill in your timeline, the computer will give you a potential range of dates for your NOA2 based on your NOA1. Click on the Immigration Timelines, then under "timeline functions" click on "Add/edit my entry". That would be a useful first step for you and help out people who may be able to help you.

CanadaHow long, typically, between Interview and K-1 Visa issuance for Montreal?
Does it matter what kind of envelope you give the consulate? I have seen something about XpressPost and then another envelope that seemed to have "next day service". Which one is the fastest, what exactly is it called, and where can the envelope be purchased?

CanadaCanadian vaccine costs
I emailed Dr. Seidan's office. A person named Erlene Webster responded (within a few minutes actually) saying their website was up to date with respect vaccinations. Thankfully my fiance' hadn't picked up the prescriptions yet for Hep. A and Hep. B (and after reading some more about the reasons to have them, my fiance' doesn't fit into the high risk categories). So thanks VJ members for saving my fiance' and I $140!

When I called Seiden's office to confirm what vaccines I needed, I specifically asked if I needed Hep A&B. They said NO.

And yes, vaccines may cost a lot! 2 chicken pox shots cost $160.

I guess I will get my fiance' to call then since it looks like your medical exam would have been before the Dec. 14, 2009 cut off mentioned in the memo.

Crazy how much the vaccines cost! Glad he had chicken pox as a kid (and it is the only verbally declarable immunity accepted, although not required).

Glad to know that "not regular run of the mill" prescriptions do actually have to be purchased at the pharmacist. It was just odd to me. Needed confirmation and thank you, trailmix.

My fiance' did say that the nurse and doctor had a 40 minute consultation on what vaccines he should get yesterday, what blood tests to do, and they had him get a chest extra for something too (not sure what vaccine that was for). Very odd. One step closer though, one step closer.

Thanks Danu. Maybe you were able to get under the changes. Thankfully the HPV and zooster isn't required. I guess I would like to hear from K-1 who had their medical done in 2010, if any are out there yet.

This is where I got my list that I gave to my fiance' for his vaccine record:

USCIS memo on vaccine changes

Required Vaccinations. Section 212(a)(1)(A)(ii) of the Act specifies the following vaccinations:
• mumps, measles, rubella
• polio
• tetanus and diphtheria toxoids
• pertussis
• haemophilius influenzae type b
• hepatitis b

Beginning on December 14, 2009, additional vaccine requirements are determined by CDC according to the following criteria:
1) The vaccine must be age-appropriate as recommended by the ACIP for the general U.S. population; AND
2) The vaccine must either protect against a disease that has the potential to cause an outbreak, OR the vaccine must protect against a disease that has been eliminated in the United States or is in the process of elimination in the United States.

The following additional vaccines are required for immigration purposes on or after December 14, 2009:
• varicella
• influenza
• pneumococcal
• rotavirus
• hepatitis A
• meningococcal

The officer should refer to the vaccination chart below and follow the guidelines provided in this section when reviewing the vaccination record to determine whether an applicant is inadmissible because the applicant has not received a particular vaccine. If an applicant is inadmissible, the officer should determine whether the inadmissibility may be waived because receipt of the vaccine is "not medically appropriate." The term "not medically appropriate" applies to vaccinations that are not age appropriate, where there is a medical contraindication, where there is an insufficient time interval, or when it is not the flu season.

If the civil surgeon checks that all vaccination requirements have been met but information is missing from the vaccination record in that the officer is unable to determine admissibility, the officer should return the Form I-693 to the applicant for corrective action.

Applicants who have completed the initial DTP/DTaP/DT or Td/Tdap series should receive a Td/Tdap booster shot every 10 years. If the last dose was received more than 10 years ago, the applicant is required to have the booster shot before Form I-693 can be approved.

It doesn't seem like Dr. Seidan has updated his website since 2008. I don't want to get stuck in the AOS stage because the new 2009 technical instructions are out, and the panel physician hadn't posted those changes to his website. I see that is what is on the panel physicians website. I will have to see if my fiance' actually picked up the prescription or not for Hep A and Hep B. I am sure it is something you can't "return".

I read through this page and was under the impression that the 2009 Technical Instructions for Vaccinations for Civil Surgeons needed to be followed. There was an update that happened on Dec. 13, 2009.

My fiance' went to his general practitioner yesterday to get started on the process of getting his vaccine records for his medical exam and AOS. They gave him a prescription for the doses of Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B vaccine. He just emailed me and said each dose is $70! Does that seem normal? Is getting a prescription normal for vaccines in Canada?

He is having his blood drawn to check for his other immunities as he only had a limited vaccine record in his files. He is in Ontario.

CanadaShe wants to return to Canada!!!
Nexus card is supposed to mean "trusted traveler". Last night at Port Huron the NEXUS lane had 2 border guards, one that opened all my luggage and examined it for contraband, and one who "talked to me". They found a ziplock bag of allergy meds that I had taken out of an almost empty bottle, and I got "harassed" about it. Thankfully I still had a bottle in my purse, otherwise I would have gotten secondary inspection. Totally unexpected.

I prefer going into Canada. They just look at me and smile and wave!
