CanadaCanadian Thanksgiving
My Canadian husband and I will be celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving here in the U.S. He is really bummed because he wanted to be with his family (everyone else is together at his parent's home). He really wanted "New Brunswick style" baked beans so they went in the crock pot last night. When I get home, I will be finishing up the mashed potatoes and dressing roast with cream of mushroom sauce. There will be corn and hot rolls on the side.

My husband's birthday is coming up later this week and I think that is most of bummed part for him since his family always celebrated his birthday for him at Thanksgiving (although it was usually early).

Canadaestablishing U.S. credit
I just updated my last name on a credit card to my married name. I wanted to make my husband (who is from Canada) the joint user so he could start accumulating U.S. credit history. But the customer service person I dealt with said it was okay to make them an authorized user and they took his name and U.S. SSN# but they didn't take his birth date.

Will this actually give U.S. credit as an authorized user?

CanadaPostcard Exchange!

And a new coordinator should be chosen soon, regardless of who that person is…
Whatever you all decide I am fine with…
But in the end, I hope you all make the best decision that is in the best interests of everyone in this postcard exchange.
Is this postcard exchange worth saving?
Let’s all decide soon…..(by mid-September or sooner than that, so that we can continue with the exchange as soon as possible if the majority want to keep it going again)….

That’s all I have to say for this matter for now, until a final decision can be made as to what happens next with the future of this postcard exchange….

Until then…Good luck. Happy Postcarding, Everyone!

Ant

I have been busy with work and your posts have been long.

I love sending postcards. If you (Ant) will coordinate a draw, send a theme and address to the participants each month, please do so. Sending and receiving is fun amongst the immigration waiting and bill receiving.

I want to send postcards since I have a stockpile now and yes, Pauley yours is going out in the mail late but it is coming.

I liked receiving postcards.

I received my postcard from the "Aquarium of the Smokies" today from Kayla and Matthew! Very cool. My husband and I saw the signs fro that aquarium when we were in Tennessee on our honeymoon, but we didn't go there. Now to get my post card out in the mail...

How can I get in on this? And what are the general rules? This is quite a long thread and I didn't want to read 20+ pages to figure out how this may have evolved. It sounds fun though!

Private message the original poster of this thread, and she will get you on the list for the September exchange. It is pretty fun to get a little fun mail in amongst all the bills and immigration paperwork!

July 11 is also Free Slurpee Day at 7-11! :)

Also... my postcard will go out tomorrow. lol

Seriously? Cool, I guess I will have to find a 7-11 to take advantage of that next year for my anniversary. The 7-11 stores aren't common in Michigan.

Did you get your postcard yet? I still haven't gotten mine for July, but with all the other wedding related mail, I am okay with that.

Onto Aug! I found a bunch of postcards from vacations I had taken in the past as I was cleaning out stuff and getting it organized after my wedding. Yeah, still organizing. Ugh. Such work.

Better late than never but I am sending out my May card today. Me too.. at least I hope so. Everywhere I go I get very strange looks when I ask if they carry postcards.

Now that I have my wedding invitations mailed out I was ready to get postcards. Walked to the local pharmacy figuring they would have a selection and all the clerks looked at me like I was crazy. I am going to just make one from a 4 by 6 photo paper I have and some pictures I have taken around Battle Creek Michigan. Now to create the fun postcard!

I get mail addressed to "Resident" all the time.

I remember one of my friends getting mail addressed
Mr. Z

It was a post office box. It was the correct zip code. His last name ended with Z. The USPS isn't particular picky it seems. Not sure about Canada Post though.

Sorry for the double post, I just wanted to clarify something for everyone who's curious....

POSTAGE COSTS for Postcards:

FROM USA: according to www.usps.com
Within USA: 44¢ for a LARGE postcard, or ONLY 28¢ for a small postcard up to size 4" x 6" (standard size, really)
To Canada: 75¢
Internationally (overseas): 98¢

FROM CANADA: according to www.canadapost.ca:
Within Canada: 57¢
To USA: $1.00
Internationally (overseas): $1.70

I'll be honest, I didn't even know you could get 28¢ stamps. Now I'm curious! lol
:)

Oh, yeah postcard stamps are awesome. Send a quick note (or a 4 by 6 photo with an addess on the back to a loved one) for less than an enveloped card. I wanted to use postcard stamps in Canada then found out Canada Post make no distinction between postcards and letters in envelopes.

CanadaCanadian Christmas Presents?
My SIL bought me a pair of red Canadian maple leaf mittens. My MIL and FIL bought me a big bottle of Canadian maple syrup bottled in a reused Teacher's Scotch Whiskey bottle. I am a teacher and they thought it was funny. None of us drink alcohol but they wanted a picture of me with the whiskey bottle. NOT for posting on the internet for fear I would get fired from my private school job. Had maple syrup on my oatmeal this morning. Yummy.

So yea, on the weekend, this happened...

Took place in Hollister, CA, at Bolado Park
It was a lot of fun and work, but that fulfills the terms of my K-1, on to the AOS!
Needless to say, this last month has been so frikkin busy, heres hoping it settles down some :P

I think it settles down a bit after the AOS is approved! Good luck with all the paperwork. Make sure your birthday is correct on the documents so it doesn't get returned to you like my husband's AOS file did.

The wedding's over! It was amazing. Here is a picture of the bride (my daughter) and my parents. Haven't had any time to look at any other pictures. On the drive back to the US yesterday we got a call that my husband's cousin had passed, so we're on our way to the funeral in NC now. Funny that. I've been to two weddings and a funeral. No sign of Hugh Grant, though. :P

Here are a couple of my favorite pictures from my wedding. Still waiting on the professional photos but she said she should have them tomorrow! Yeah! (Funny my husband and I said we would spend 30 minutes on the computer before getting things done around the house. Two hours later, I am ready to upload photos on visajourney.com, lol, and now it is time for lunch)

We did a sand mixing with Michigan sand as the base, then He poured Ontario sand while I poured Wisconsin sand to represent where we were both born. It is a neat color contrast without even "coloring" the sand.

Very Nice! You look gorgeous and I love your Bridesmaid dresses.

I just realized no one got to see out pictures cause our photographer's website sucks. So we put them on our website. Here they are! : http://www.mikenlisa...mages/ceremony/

Wow, I love your flowers! Breathtaking dress too!

Oooh I found this thread! So, I'm not working still but pending on getting a job I'm hoping to still have our fancy wedding next October. My husband's cousins wife (hereforth called Mandy) took me to Davids bridal the other day. I wasn't planning on getting anything, was just there to try on a few different styles to see what I liked so that once I'm working I could come back and have an easier time. Yeah....that went well....lol. I tried on this dress and fell in love, even more so when they informed me its being discontinued so was $250 off. The most beautiful dress ever and it was only 399.

http://s728.photobuc... Dress/?start=0 dont mind any funny faces, she was taking pictures while i was talking lol.

Now I have questions though lol. I'm sure a lot of you did a lot of hunting online and might have some ideas for me. I tried on a tiara with the dress and I loved it but it was $200 and I'm trying to keep the costs down. Any of you have any good sites to look at?

Very pretty dress. I had to laugh at photo number nine with the other bride in the background with a huge tattoo on her arm. You looked marvelous!

We had our formal wedding on Sat. It was small with just immediate family, but turned out really nice. We were able to work with with the minister to really personalize the ceremony. We had a small reception with a dinner afterward, it was a nice chance for our families to get to know each other a bit. I was a bit disappointed that none of my Canadian friends made much of an effort to attend, but in the grand scheme of things the day was about us, and not who attended the wedding!! Here are a couple of pics from our day!

Looks like your wedding went wonderful. Enjoy your married life together. The dress flows so beautifully!

You doing the checklist from The Knot? I didn't do everything on my list.

There are plenty of things on the "checklist" from the Knot that I checked without doing since they didn't apply but others do actually apply so I am doing those.

I finally got a hold of the woman who is "coordinating" my wedding day. Basically the woman who will do the running around on the wedding day so I won't have to. After talking to her I have a lot more confidence in what I have done.

Any of you ever have so much to do that you just do NOTHING! Yeah, that is how I am feeling right now.

Finally found the gifts I am giving to my bridesmaids and child attendents. The women are getting 2 reusable grocery bags and littler purse like bag that I bought at a local art center gift shop. I wanted to give "real" gifts. My favorite gift I received when I was a bridesmaid was an airbake cookie sheet (and I still use and remember the giver 10 years later). I wanted my gifts to my attendants to be like that.

My child attendants are getting some Klutz activity books - paper flowers for the flower girl and foam gliders for the Bible boy. Now to get them wrapped so I can get another item checked off my list. Fifty eight to dos before my wedding day! Only 18 days to go and my fiance' is moving here in 8 days. I am so relieved our plans worked out and immigration processes coincided with our hoped for wedding day. Big sigh of relief because my wedding day is almost here.

Oh good idea, I always forget to use The Knot as a resource. I find their site a bit overwhelming and I get side tracked there a lot!

Yeah, theknot.com can be crazy. I actually only use their little to do list checklist thing otherwise I would be lost there forever looking at things. With my wedding 27 days away, the time for planning is OVER and the time for getting done is HERE!

Finally got my little blue organza bags with stars and moons on them that I am filling with jelly beans for favors for my wedding. I wanted chocolate, but the chocolate would likely melt in the July heat of the un-air conditioned gymnasium I am using for my reception. It was free (since I work at the school), what can I say.

That's good to know about the gifts! My bridal shower is in Toronto June 27, and I'm sure we'll get gifts we need to take back.

This weekend I plan to make a list of everything we have left to plan and start buckling down! I have been a bit too laid back about some stuff that needs to get booked or figured out soon!

I found theknot.com to have a nice checklist option that has most of the stuff a "church" wedding would have. I see you were married civilly on my birthday last year. Hope your planning for your church wedding goes well. theknot.com allows you to put in your own "to do's" which helps me not to forget anything that isn't what they consider "normal".

My fiance' just got his suit altered so the legs aren't totally dragging on the ground. He looks so handsome in it! I am getting my flowers done by a woman on etsy.com My bouquet is costing about $50 for flowers that if I got "real" ones would be over a $100. My sister was so surprised when she saw it and asked "Are you sure those are silk? They look real!" I am hoping they turn out as good in my wedding photos. About $300 for all our personal flowers (bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages) is great!

Thirty one days until my wedding! I am so happy that the personal exemption is $800 to take gifts back to the U.S. My fiance's family and friends threw him and me a bridal shower in Canada and I want to take some of the things back with me before he moves. I thought the personal exemption was $400. I am glad that I was wrong!

My fiance' and I will be writing thank you notes tonight (because we have put it off all week and I am going back to the U.S. tomorrow). We need to get our ceremony programs printed out now that we met with the pastor on Sunday night to go over how things will go and in what order. I love vistaprint.com We are going to use them to print out our programs to match our invitations we ordered from them. When I get home hopefully the "return address" stickers I am going to put on our favors to thank people will be in my mailbox. So much to do, so little time!

How are the rest of the summer brides holding out?
