I think that etsy.com is so cool! Now some stuff is crazy prices but they offer some out of this world creative things I would never come up with.

Tonight I bought my headband that I will wear for the wedding.

Check etsy.com out if you haven't already.

Yesterday I met with the woman at my church who does all the decorating for the church. She took me to the basement "flower room". Holy cow! I have never seen so many flowers. It was like going to Hobby Lobby, Michael's, and Joann Fabrics all in one. She and I looked at the flowers and I picked out what I wanted. We then talked about what else I would want that wasn't there already (that I will buy) and then she also agreed to make my bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres (all are artificial flowers). I am so relieved! The person who originally said they would do my bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres moved out of town so I am so thankful this woman will take care of it for me! Yeah!

It is 3 months until my wedding! July 11, 2010 here I come! I can't wait to be united with the best man in the world for me! Monday my friend who is sewing my wedding dress is going to do the first official fitting of the bodice of my dress. It is really happening. I am getting married!

Good luck with your dress searching Darkchilde! I've heard of people buying dresses really far in advance... that's what fittings are for, right? :)

My friend who is making my wedding dress is bringing the bodice to my house on Thursday for my first "real" fitting. She had brought in a cotton bodice to fit to me before she cut the expensive material. I am so excited!

Our invitations arrived yesterday. They are beautiful. I need to take them to the post office to make sure we don't have to pay extra for the size of the envelope. It was exactly an ounce with all the enclosures so I am hoping for the 44 cent stamp in U.S. and the 57 cent stamp in Canada.

My invitations shipped today! I can't wait to receive them. My fiance' is wanting to address them all by hand! At least we got some cool return address labels. Based on the weight of the package, it will hopefully be less than 1 oz for each invite. I really don't want to use "extra" postage!

That sounds like a great deal! I wish I would have known that before I bought my DIY invite kit ... oh well, Dan and I had a fun time putting them together (he'd never admit it but it was fun, lol)

Yeah with all the money we are spending on immigration, moving, and adjustment of status every little amount saved on things that can be "less expensive" is great. I had looked at the DIY invites and determined that this www.vistaprint.com company does it so much less expensively and with a great product that is high quality that it would be the way to go. Just trying to pass along what I have learned to others so they can save too!

I just ordered my invitations tonight! I am excited. Can't wait until they ship! If you haven't looked at the place yet (for those who haven't ordered invitations) www.vistaprint.com is an awesome site with great paper products. Each of my invitations cost about 20 cents each with an envelope! Response cards were 21 cents each with an envelope! I couldn't have printed them at home in color for that price and I was able to get 560 return address labels for six dollars. The internet can be amazing at times.

well i had planned a bunch of diff things..but everyone keeps not agreeing..and i have no family that will come or wants to come. i just can't take the stress anymore. i have had 2 breakdowns and when i ask david for help he says i never tell him anything and lately i just keep repeating myself..so i've given up on an actual family ceremony. as it is now..it looks like i wont even be able to do aos right away due to financial issues which i thought 2 months ago would be fine. turns out our financial situation is worse than i knew...

Sorry to hear all your trouble. As if the interview that is coming up for you and moving won't be trouble enough. I think that a civil ceremony can be beautiful. My cousin wore a special white dress and her fiance' wore a tux. The courtroom actually let up to 20 people in to watch the ceremony and we sat in the jury boxes in the courtroom. Then the next night there was a reception for all the non-family members to come to as well. I hope things will straighten themselves out for you to at least move forward with a wedding and then when the finances allow it Adjustment of Status.

The first and last one I love because I loooooove organza and I tried on a dress similar to them and it looked so pretty on me. I love the side drape on the 2nd one and how the thing goes around the hip, I think it would help to make me look a bit slimmer.

Oh I love the third one. I actually tried that one one in the store. Seriously a princess looking dress.

Is it taboo to write thank you cards by hand? I wrote all my thank you cards (all 50+ of them!) by hand after my civil ceremony. I did write a personal message to each guest and so forth...

NOT taboo at all, I would think that it is expected that a handwritten note will be given for each thank you, not some type written "form thank you note" as if it wasn't even you who wrote it. I was astonished when I saw these "form thank notes" in stationary magazines. How tacky!

I received my first official "wedding" gift today from some friends of mine. I couldn't figure out why there were two Target envelopes with what felt like credit cards in them. Turns out someone sent us gift-cards in the mail. Wrote my first wedding gift thank you card today and yes it was HAND WRITTEN.

I had been invited to a former student's wedding shower this last weekend. I couldn't attend but sent a gift with a friend. I knew this girl's handwriting. The card I received must have been written by her mother because it was NOT the bride's handwriting. I thought, how tacky. Almost worse than those pretyped message "thank you" notes people can buy.

I can't decide where to register.

I really wanted to register at Macy's but they don't let Canadians order online with a CDN credit card, they need a US billing address... so that would be silly since most of my guests are in Canada.

How rude! I am registered there.

Bed Bath and Beyond will let Canadians order, but they have to call customer service, can't just order online.

Everytime I drive down the 401, I see Bed Bath and Beyond somewhere near Toronto. It is one of the reasons we registered there. At least they can order "somehow".

I like Target, but we have a lot of stuff from there already.

I registered there just because I got a "we will give you a $20 gift card if you register for 10 or more items". That wasn't hard and I used the gift card to buy some frilly things I wanted but wouldn't have spent my hard earned cash on.

My other options are to register in Canada and then bring back all our gifts over the border... which I'm not sure I want to do.... but im not completely dismissing either.

My fiance' and I registered at Home Outfitters in Canada mostly for his relatives that want a "real" store to go to purchase something. They actually had the cheapest down comforter of the 3 places we registered. Sheets were cheapest at Bed Bath and Beyond for some really nice 400 count ones. I am hoping people purchase the things and bring them to the wedding (which will be in the U.S.) so we don't have to deal with "importing" them. We will just have to wait and see.

My fiance' and I just had his packet 3 delivered to Montreal and we are "hoping" for July 11. Even have booked the church (with the understanding the date could change) and the photographer (with the understanding the date could change). I just needed something to tell people. But then again it make people antsy when they want to ask for vacation time but I can't say "with confidence" the wedding date will be July 11. Based on other timelines for Montreal, he will likely have his interview 3 weeks before our wedding. But we just don't know. I am planning for July 11 anyway.

Where did you buy your tiara?

I would definitely check out projectwedding.com It has awesome ideas on all sorts of things. LOTS of pictures of real women and their hair styles with veils, tiaras, etc. I think I spent 6 hours looking through all the options. YIKES.

I have almost everything sorted for the wedding, but OMG how do i get david to get off his butt for his tux fitting?? like i've tried to drag him out to the store 3 times now :( it's almsot like hes a chicken

i had to exchange my shoes..they were too big :( /cry and the guy screwed up on my ring../sigh i even had my finger measured..he told me 4.5..so we ordered that..and it wont even fit over the knucle..ARGH! kinda worried about my dress that the soon to be mother inlaw is making. we did the fitting etc in dec. but its still sitting there :( no liner etc in it yet. and the jacket is not made yet. she hasn't been able to find the "right" fabric..so i'm tempted to just say screw the jacket.

I having the same issue with my fiance'. He is planning to get a suit but hasn't gone in to get it yet and we are planning to have 3 groomsmen with him and they need the suits too. I keep encouraging him to take care of it on the weekend, but when we are together we have been going to see vendors for photography, the pastor, etc, not taking care of his suit which is something he CAN DO HIMSELF! Ugh. I feel your pain.

I hope your shoes can be found in the right size. I have had no luck with that. Your wedding dress isn't done yet? The lining of the dress isn't in it? Yikes. Less than 2 months to go for you. Hopefully it will all get worked out.

President's Day sales are wonderful! I found the perfect shade of blue for my bridesmaids dresses and now my seamstress has the patterns for the ladies dresses and ties for the men (not sure my fiance' will dig the one color tie thing, he was hoping for a pattern but I will wait and see). One thing done!

Talked with a photographer yesterday. Both my fiance' and I loved her. She and her husband cover the whole day. She is even willing to set up a backdrop at the reception to take pictures of my guests with me so I can remember the special people that come. I had seen a "photo booth" idea and like it but didn't like the price. She will include it in the package which was reasonable for the amount of time (unlimited) and the fact that both herself and her husband will be taking photos so two viewpoints will be able to be seen. I am so excited! I AM GOING TO GET MARRIED! Hopefully July 11, 2010 but if not whenever Montreal gets my fiance' an interview.

My MIL and I are attending the Baltimore Bridal Show today!!! I am sooo excited. I hope to find caterers, tables, linens and DJ's at the show, so I can plan a budget for the wedding. So far, I have a photographer, have a possible venue, made a decision about my invitations, making my save the dates, made a decision about my centerpieces and also have been considering an online wedding gown. My ceremonial event is not til 2011 and its a looong time from now, but I really want to be as prudent with the cost as possible, so Im hoping making early plans will cut some cost down.

I totally recommend Bridal Bargains by Denise and Alan Fields. I picked it up at Barnes and Noble for about $15. It has really great ideas on how to avoid the "wedding" upgrade on costs. An excellent read to find deals and not be shafted by wedding vendors.

A lot of stores don't require a receipt, especially if you're registered there. My friend returned stuff to Target, Macy's and Bed Bath and Beyond all without a receipt. They just gave her store credit. The Macy's stuff just had to have the "Required for Return" sticker on it, which it did.

Bed Bath and Beyond will return anything. I returned a used broken closet thing that I got from there and they didn't even ask me why I was returning it or what kind of condition it was in.

I was impressed with the return policy of Bed Bath and Beyond. That is where the bulk of stuff that my fiance' and I registered for is. He came with me. I didn't want to decorate the house for MY tastes. As it is, he is moving into "my place". I want our home to about us, not what I had in it before (except my furniture since he doesn't have any to speak of). But new curtains, towels, dishes, bedding, bathroom things, kitchen towels, etc will be a nice change for me. I registered at Macy's and Target too.

If I can't return it, the item just might show up on ebay though if I really don't want it. We have only so much storage space. Regifting can get a little dicey in a community like mine.

CanadaAOS'rs...
Hopefully, others will see movement soon.

My husband was approved for his green card today! We arrived at the Detroit office at 10:10 for our 11:00 a.m. interview. We entered the office, went through security, and were told to go to window 8 and put our appointment letter in the box there. We went to the bathroom first, then went down the hall to the window number 8. There wasn't even a person at the window, just a box of other people's letters. We put ours on top and then sat down. I waited and watched until a human actually came to letters. One person got called back to the window because they were just there for finger prints, so that person was redirected.

We sat on the chairs until 10:35 a.m. when an older man came to the door and called out my husband's name. We followed him down to his office. As we entered the man (Greg Gellert), said, "I think today is going to be a good day!" We sat down, he had us raise our right hands, and swear to tell the truth. Then he asked, "Do you have anything else that you would like me to add to our file?" I asked for clarification if he meant our "supporting evidence of our relationship." He responded, "Whatever you want to have added to your file to help me make the decision." I then handed him a copy of our car insurance listing our names both on the policy, then I gave him a copy of a letter from our bank stating that it was a joint account and a screen shot showing both my name and my husband's name and the fact that it was a joint account, and then two photos from our wedding that were printed on a 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of copy paper (in color) with captions (one was a photos of us and our wedding party and the other photo was a whole group photos of our extended family that came to the wedding).

Then the IO went through the I-485 line by line to confirm my husband's name, our address, my name, his birthdate, his country of birth, and when he arrived in the U.S. Then he asked my husband what his parents names were. Then he asked what my birthday was. The IO asked if my husband had left the U.S. since he arrived (of course not!). Then the IO started going through the list "Have you ever been convicted of a crime, ever received public assistance, engaged in illegal gambling, assisted an alien to enter the U.S. illegally, etc" found on pages 3 and 4 of the application. The IO was circling in red the "No responses" as he went along. He offhandedly said, "I have to ask these things so they know I actually interviewed you."

Then the IO asked my husband, "What are you wife's hobbies?" My husband responded, "Photography, scrapbooking, and cooking." Then the IO asked, "What did you eat for lunch yesterday." My husband responded, "Well my wife wasn't feeling well so we ate peanut butter toast with applesauce." The IO laughed.
Then the IO asked me, "How did you meet your husband?"
Then the IO asked me, "If I had ever met my husband's parents?"
Then the IO asked me, "What do your husband's parents do for a living?"
Then the IO asked my husband, "Do you plan to leave the U.S. in the next 2 weeks?" My husband said no. The IO said, "Good, otherwise we would need another picture and would have to do some special stamping so you could leave."

Then the IO turned around, pulled a sheet of paper from a file folder, and said to us, "Today's a good day. You are approved." He then went over when we should apply for the I-751 and the fact that there is no "reminder" notice sent about filing for it. He wrote his name on the top of the form letter that my husband received and said that if we didn't get my husband's green card in 2 weeks, we should call the circled number, and ask to be transferred directly to Greg Gellert's office. Then the IO asked, "Do you have any other questions?" My husband asked about his EAD and whether it was still valid. The IO said it was valid until it expired but that once my husband has his green card he wouldn't need the EAD and that my husband could throw it away or keep it if my husband wanted to. Then the IO escorted us back out to the waiting room and it was over and we were back in the car by 10:50 a.m.! It was over so quick.

The IO was very courteous and professional. Tonight at 8:18 p.m. we got an email saying that our green card production had been ordered. Yeah! Tomorrow my husband has a second interview so hopefully my husband will have a job offer by the end of tomorrow!

CanadaAOS'rs...

Everything you need to show, they should already have, because you submitted it with the I-485. Aside from our relationship evidence, the IO didn't really ask to see any documents or forms (even though I brought everything!)

1. I didn't need our original NOA2 at the interview.

Good, we have a copy of it and hopefully we will find the original in my "newly rearranged" home before we have to do removal of conditions.

2. His eligibility to adjust status is based on his marriage to you- so the marriage certificate. Also, his passport with the K-1 visa and I-94 showing lawful entry. Definitely make sure you have that (which I know you already know!)

Okay, we have the government issued marriage certificate, his passport with K-1 visa and his I-94 in it

3. We brought my husbands birth certificate but we were never asked for it. He also brought his passport, and If I remember correctly, they asked for it when we went through security at the USCIS office. They took my passport and interview letter, and his passport. The interviewer also asked to see photo ID from both of us before starting the interview.

We have both our birth certificates and both our passports and both our drivers licenses.

4. As far as evidence goes, the checks sound good, but the other things really only show that you live together at the same address. Do you have anything like joint auto insurance? Or health insurance? Credit cards?

I did find our joint auto insurance with both our names on it. Health insurance cards are through my work so that may work. Credit cards, he has a card but his name isn't on our statement either (like my bank statement since I just added him as an authorized user). I figure it will all go well.

You may not need it. The IO interviewing us didn't pay too much attention to our evidence. He looked over it, and they just put it into our file. But, some IO's expect more than others, so you never know. Our IO wasn't remotely interesting in wedding pictures.

Best of luck to you! Not that you need luck :)

CanadaAOS'rs...
AOS interview is on Monday, Oct. 4 and my husband and I are trying to get our papers in order:

1. Did I have to have the original of the NOA2 of the I-129F, I know I submitted a copy with the AOS package but I haven't been able to figure out where my original went (doh)?
2. What do I take as documentation establishing my Canadian husband's eligibility for Lawful Permanent Resident status?
3. What do I take as the petitioner's evidence of United States Citizenship? I am taking my birth certificate because it says to, but isn't that evidence of U.S. citizenship? Should I take my passport too?
4. Will this be enough supporting evidence of our relationship? I added my husband to my bank account, but his name doesn't appear on my statement but we have checks with both our names printed on them. Would the checks be good? I have a piece of mail from our church where we were married that has both our names on it and our address. I have our individual car titles with our mutual address (but he owns his car and I own mine, both our names aren't on one). Would the car titles be good? I am going to print out a few wedding photos, but from what I have read about Detroit, they don't really look at them anyway.

Monday is coming so quickly.
