Marilyn, I hope your growth scan comes out good. Thing is even with those growth scans they are just estimates. Keep eating healthy and drinking lots of water. I hope the stitch removal goes well for you. Hard to believe that you are so close!  It is exciting to see your dreams come true isn't it!

VeeNDee, glad your little one decided head down was the way to go.  That is reassuring I am sure. Glad that the little one passed all non-stress tests and biophysical profile tests.

Kimbear, sorry to hear about your sleeping issues. Even with my U shaped pregnancy pillow, I wake up with my arm asleep from laying on my side.  Annoying but I haven't figured out how to get rid of it either. Hopefully you can get your GD under control through eating without getting far out there numbers. $145 for 100 test strips, yikes. Is there a mail order place you could get those supplies?

hikergirl, thanks for the heads up on the minor Nexus card fees. Now I just have to worry about passports so I can get the Nexus cards for my babies.

AFM, DH and I went and toured the birth place where I am planning to give birth last night. The triage part reminded me of an emergency room. I told DH that supported my wishes of staying home until I was in active labor because otherwise the tour guide said we could spend 2 to 4 hours in this little room with no windows. All the labor and delivery rooms have outdoor windows which is much better in my opinion. The tour guide told me and 2 other moms pregnant with twins that it wasn't the practice to have all twin births in the operating room. But I am definitely going to talk to my doctor about that too. There were nice deep bath tubs and showers in each room so I can stand in the water if I want to labor there which was good. She even said they recommend that a laboring woman sit on a toilet and rock to help get the baby in the right position to exit the body vaginally. The hospital supports skin to skin contact with the baby after birth which was good to know, but if I am still actively laboring for the second baby that may be interesting.  Nurse said that colostrum tastes like amniotic fluid which I had never heard before. Makes sense though so it is familiar to the baby.

The mother/baby unit was nice with enough space in their large rooms for both babies to stay with us and they are never taken away from the parents unless the little boys are going to be circumcised. I am not sure how my DH feels about circumcision. I guess I need to have a conversation about that.  There is a "watching" nursery if parents ask to have some time to sleep without watching the baby. DH even gets a couch to sleep on. Doesn't look that comfy but at least it is something.

Hope you start feeling better sooner rather than later. A fever is nothing to fool around with when pregnant. Hope your tour of the hospital goes well. DH and I are going on our tour on Tuesday night.

Oh, veeNDee, sorry to hear you are so miserable today. Have you tried zantac to qual the acid reflux? My doctor recommended it and it actually seemed to stop the post nasal drip I was having too so it might help a little with your runny nose (although if the nose issue is driectly related to the cold, probably not). Do you have enough pillows that you could create yourself a "nest" to sleep in? The U shaped pregnancy pillow I have has helped tremendously with sleeping on my back or sides since it picks me up a bit from the bed and seems to provide a little pressure to reign my pregnant body in from taking over the bed. It also elevates my head enough to keep the refluxing from causing me issues.  Hope your day gets better.

Sorted through all the baby clothes I have been given so far. I have a bunch of those sleep sacks (all cuddly material smile.png, plenty of 3-6, 6-9. and 18-24 clothes, a good start to 9-12 and 12-18 month clothes, and more blankets than I could ever imagine. My aunt had mixed in a few little girl's things before she knew I was having a boy. I have those in a bag separated from everything else.  I need to get a couple more boxes to put the 12-18 month clothes in and all the sleep sacks/blankets.  Oh and I have 2 snow suits too (3-6 months) which should get us through the first winter here in Michigan.

Had to laugh at my DH. Aunt gave me a food grinder . DH thought it was a hand breast pump.  Yeah, we have a lot to learn together smile.png

Dude, my husband's passport is going to cost $260 because it will be delivered to him outside of Canada!  Looks like we can get a 10 year Canadian passport though. I wonder why DH didn't get a 10 year card in the first place.

Edit: I guess the new 10 year card "ePassport" just came into effect July 1, 2013 so that is why his isn't for 10 years. It also is why fees increased.

Neck seems to be better today. I am not going to worry about it.

kimbear, I hope more than 2 people show up. At least you have a couple that you adore - always helps - my sisters and brothers, all 6 of them, love my DH. My SIL however could care less if I lived or died or had children. Family dynamics are so odd sometimes.

Ontarkie, you are right, my in laws aren't being selfish, they are being prudent. It just hurts to feel that we always have to go to them and that there is no give and take, but then they can't really give and take. I just have to shake my head and get over it, I guess.

VeeNDee, I hope your baby grows with the help of the extra nutrients.

Yesterday I was looking at the rules for taking the babies to Canada. It appears I can do so with just their birth certificates until they are 16 if we go by land, but that would mean we couldn't use our Nexus cards that DH and I have. Getting into Canada is less of an issue than getting back into the U.S. at our favorite point of entry - Sarnia/Port Huron/Blue Water Bridge - yeah, I can't imagine waiting at the border 1 or 2 hours with babies. One passport for a minor is $105 and it only lasts for 5 years! The Nexus card costs $50 a person and is also good for 5 years. Plus we need to get DH's Canadian passport renewed since it expires June 2014. Need to look into the fees for the Canadian passport. U.S. adult passports are good for 10 years so I am still good for awhile. Time to make the passport/Nexus Card savings account.

Marilyn, sorry to hear about the serious hike in insurance premiums. $100 a check (I am assuming every two weeks) seems a bit over the top. I probably should be talking with DH's HR about how his insurance will change when we add two babies and me to it after the babies are born (since right now I am insured through my work but that will end once the babies are born).

Family - it is so tough.  I know in my heart, although they haven't said it, that my in-laws won't be coming down to visit the babies once they are born. We will have to go visit them in Canada. Money is an issue for them as they are both retired, but more than that they are afraid they will have a medical emergency down in the states and not have their provincial health plan to cover it even though we are 2.5 hours from the closest border crossing. Yes, my MIL has cancer issues but it appears to be controlled with meds right now. I feel your pain when it seems like we are always the ones going to visit them and they never come visit us.  They came for our wedding in 2010 but haven't been back since. Once the babies are born and our family is on one income, going to visit them will be a financial hardship for us, although I don't think that has sunk in for DH yet. I just have to love them and remind myself I can't change someone else's selfish behavior.

VeeNDee, I hope the ultrasound with the maternal-fetal specialist goes well.

AFM, I went to the grocery store yesterday and on the way home, some lady in a fancy new car bumped into me as we were at the stop light. I didn't think much of it, didn't stop to get insurance or report it, but my neck has been hurting a bit last night and today. Ugh.

Got an explanation of benefits yesterday for our anatomy ultrasound that was a month ago - the hospital charges were a little over $1000! Of that we are paying about $100. We have nearly gotten to our out of pocket maximum of $2000 this year.  I just shake my head at how much these medical procedures cost.  Then there was the hemoglobin stick they did in the doctors office - charge was $15 of which we have to pay $0.46.  Okay. Babies cost a lot of money and I am looking forward to when my boys make it into the world. Twenty three weeks tomorrow!

kimbear, I am glad the place where you will give birth has already given you warm fuzzy feelings. Always a good thing. The smells of a hospital scare me a bit. Glad you won't have to deal with that where you are going.

Marilyn, bummer that your doctors don't have privileges where you would prefer to birth.

AFM, DH and I will be touring the "Birth Place" next week.  I am getting excited about that. it is becoming more and more real to me that these babies are coming.

Ya i hate how you can't pick and choose hospitals clinics or your doctors here. its so annoying.  So glad the test went well for you.

I just got a call from my dr.  I flunked the 3hr glucose test. apparently my numbers were very high. sad.png

Sorry to hear that Kimbear. Hope you and your doctor can come up with a plan for gestational diabetes.

Marilyn, looks like a fun shower! I had to laugh at the frilly pink tie for your DH. Glad he was a good sport for the party.

The whole blanket thing is hilarious. Five heavy blankets in SoCal is more than plenty since they actually can't use them until the child is 2 years old or something.  I plan to just register for a bunch of sheets and those sleep sacks.

Nice to hear that you DH can stay home with you for awhile and be there to help you and the baby get yourselves settled.

VeeNDee, I hope you can find some help to move things. Around here they have something called "Two Men and a Truck". We used them to move things around for us so my DH wouldn't try to move crazy heavy things by himself. I think we paid $40 for an hour of work with 2 guys. Totally worth it.

I hope your placenta has moved too so you can try for a vaginal delivery.

Kimbear, sounds like your mom is ready to feather your nest!  I know I am planning to make curtains and a diaper holder thing, but since the cribs aren't supposed to have blankets, bumpers, etc, that is about it. If you can get some cool fabric, I would say let her have at it.  That stuff is crazy expensive, not completely necessary, but can make a baby's room look cute. I can't remember, does your little girl get a room of her own or will she be rooming in with you for awhile?

AFM, last Saturday I felt the babies move for the first time. All week I have felt one or the other of them kick me especially after I eat. At 22 weeks it is nice to know they are in there since I was 21 weeks when I first knew it was really one of them moving, not just gas or something.

DH and I talked with a woman to be our doula - basically a woman to "mother the mother" during labor and delivery who is trained in all the things that happen during labor and delivery to keep DH and me be "calm and docile" as DH likes to say. I really want to try a vaginal delivery and there is research that shows that having a doula increases the likelihood that will happen (all other things being lined up like baby A is head down and placentas aren't in the way). DH and I both don't like hospitals and I know that nurses don't stay with you all the time because they have other patients to care for. She can give us emotional support and remind us, "yes that is normal in labor".  I was really pleased to hear about how she uses comfort measures like breathing, relaxation, movement, and positining to help labor progress and be "standable". I wanted to make sure someone was there to remind my DH that "this is what labor is like, your wife will be okay, she is working on getting those babies out" because DH doesn't like to see me in pain. With the higher risk of C-sections after interventions like an epidural or pitocin, I want to stay away from those as much as possible.  I don't like needles so the whole idea of putting a huge needle in my spine to numb me makes me crazy nervous. I will take the pain, thanks. I just feel so much more at ease that DH and I will have someone who will stay with us throughout labor and delivery to give us the support we need to have the best birth possible for our boys. I am more relaxed already about it all. Here is a link to the doula professional organization check out http://www.dona.org/mothers/ Many of the doulas we talked with worked on a sliding fee scale so don't let the expense hold you back. I believe it will be worth every penny to have someone there to encourage DH and me when I have our twins.

(((kimbear))) on the glucose test retest, the crushed crib, and on the family drama.

Marilyn, I hope your baby shower went great yesterday.

VeeNDee, sorry that the crib buying fell through. How annoying! If you are going to sell something, sell it, don't hang onto it forever or post it for sale.

AFM, my SIL finally has her K-1 visa interview in October. They applied last November. It is the Wednesday before Canadian Thanksgiving. She wants DH and me to come up for Thanksgiving in October and meet her fiancee in Ontario. The fiancee is from Missouri. Once she has her visa in hand, she and her fiancee are driving her car and belongings to Missouri and likely have to pass our home since our city is right off of I-94 in Michigan, a couple of hours from Sarnia or Detroit depending on which she activates her visa at. I just shake my head that she would even ask for me to come - especially since I will be 7 months pregnant with twins.  I have already had to tell my brother I won't make it to his wedding in Sept. since the Dr. told me months ago that she discourages travel after I am 6 months pregnant for fear of pre-term labor. DH was all like "we will see how lilac feels when the time comes." I would love to meet my SIL fiancee' but just stop in for a meal on the way to Missouri if you are in such a hurry and can't stay for a night.

Yeah, after birth we will need time to recover! Dh wants a shower in Canada before the babies are born but I don't want another long road trip. I am already not going to my brothers wedding because it is 10.5 hours away and by then I won't be able to fly. I think a Canadian shower would be more fun after the babies are born so people can see the babies. I know I will have a local shower in the US before they born.

VeeNDee, good luck on preparing while waiting for the place to really prepare.  Exciting that you will close on a house and be moving before the baby comes.

Marilyn, how exciting that your crib has come in. When do you get to "recieve" the crib as I remember you were asking about whether you needed to act "surprised or not" at your shower where I think you are getting it?

AFM, DH has been on the "must clean babies are coming" drive that began on July 14.  This weekend July 21 was "clean the front porch day".  It does look so much better having gotten stuff to the curb and other stuff on craigslist to sell.  I am excited that the two things DH thought would "never sell because no one will want them" sold. Granted the things I thought people would want, no one has contacted me about.  Now I have a little cash to put toward some new maternity shirts :)  Two days until we find out the babies genders!

Well although it is little consolation at least I can tell my Canadian dh that it is a symptom of pregnancy that may go away or at least the puking part of it. I will have to try the humidifier. I have also found that the allergy med that they recommended early isn't working anymore because it isn't really allergies now, it is pregnancy weepy nose. It was so weird that the vomiting didn't start until week 14 and I am 17 weeks now.

Today was the first time I fell victim to the reach out and touch my belly phenomenon - totally weird how women I know at church just walk up to me, touch my belly, then ask me how I am feeling. I know people are excited since there haven't been many babies born lately.

I have begun second trimester vomiting brought on by coughing up post nasal drip - not cool. It is freaking dh out and I am waking him up with the coughing - vomiting sucks. Any ideas to get rid of post nasal drip that work during pregnancy?

SAw my ob yesterday. It was underwhelming. I want to get Emily a baby sister shirt.  Husband says that would not be weird for us but it might be hard to explain to others but I said it would be just for her to wear at home.

Marilyn, I think that a baby sister shirt would be sweet to remember the little ones you have lost. My mom lost a baby of unknown gender between me and my next sister. My dad always wanted boys and I wonder how my family would have been different if sibling had survived.

I have gotten some clothes, toys, equipment from people. I have quite v collection already. I don't know if we are having boys or girls for our twins but I have no issue with hand me downs since babies hardly use most of the stuff people buy for them.

We TTC'd for 3 years and the next step for us was supposed to be IVF because our RE said we would never get pregnant by ourselves, but in April we got a little surprise. Yesterday made 11 weeks! This baby is definitely half Quebecois, I woke up yesterday with the most intense craving for poutine from La Banquise. Thankfully we had some poutine sauce in the house or I might have made a spur of the moment Montreal trip! Got to love the fact that Mathew's mom brings mass quantities of the food he misses from back home when she visits.

Yeah!  I remember when you are I were waiting for our K-1 visas for our significan others.  I like waiting for babies better!  Although like the government and their mail service with visa material, we have no exact idea when our babies will come!  I am due with twins from an ivf procedure.  My DH has severe oligospermia and we had to do a procedure to inject the few sperm he had into my eggs.  I am so happy it worked the first time for us because all the meds I had to take to make lots of eggs were intense.  My due date is Dec. 19 but the doctor said anytime after Nov. 19 I should expect my little ones to arrive.  Congrats on the exciting next step in your married life!

The technician said it looks like its a girl, but they had to poke my belly a bit to try and get baby to move since it was hard to see anything.  so i guess we are still not 100% sure on gender. oh and she gave us the babys weight of 9oz, and that certain parts looked ok.  we kind of brainstormed all weekend about girls names.  The one i had picked out we were not sure if we should use it since its very close to his friends daughters name but we decided last night to heck with worrying were going to name her what we want.  So we chose Kayla Michelle, but we are going to spell it differently, i'm just not sure on the Gaelic spelling lol. possibly Caihla or Caela we haven't quite decided yet.

Kimbear, congrats on probably having a girl!  How exciting!  I am sorry to hear you doctor's visit was less than expected.  I am totally with you on the "this is my first pregnancy, what should I be asking anyway?" The practice I am going to does the same as yours - there are 5 or 6 doctors - so we see all of them because we don't know who will be the "delivering" doctor.  Have you looked up the doctors on www.healthgrades.com or on www.vitals.com ? I would definitely rate the doctor and let others know of yoru experience.  No one should be treated like "just another pregnant woman."

CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

I'm really at a loss with what to do with myself after work. I finally can unwind and I have no idea of what to do. Television or a movie are too distracting. I don't want to read, I've no energy or focus to write. I barely haul myself to the gym at this point. Any ideas on how to unwind and ways to keep active without too much stress or pushing and pulling? I love my husband but he's so stressed out from work all he wants to do is vanish into a computer game right now, and I'm feeling pretty much on my own coming up with ideas to dispel the boredom, and I can't think of anything. L:/

Autumnal, maybe you can find a prenatal swimming or yoga class in your area?  I know the prenatal swim class that is at my YMCA has been a great lift to my spirits and allows me to relax.

What about some other hobbies?  Maybe take up knitting or crocheting - make something for your baby?  There are great youtube videos that I have used to teach myself how to crochet better.  The nice thing about knitting or crocheting is that the up front cost for the needles to do the work are pretty cheap, but yarn can sometimes be more expensive if you want some fancy schmancy stuff.  I love Caron's Simply Soft - so nice and fuzzy to the touch.

I know I am still so tired in the evenings that about all I am good for is going to sleep when the day is over - but twice a week I go the  prenatal swim class and I find it encouraging to talk with other pregnant women and get reminded that how I feel now at 12 weeks will eventually pass, although maybe not so much with twins that I am having, but definitely some more energy is coming my way.  I hope you find something that helps you pass the time and might actually be useful in your preparation.

I want to garage sale for neutral things but I know that sometimes you can get perfect clearance things at babysrus, kohls, etc as long as we shop a season ahead, then we just pray that our babies don't out grow the stuff before they wear it.

I didn't put ultrasound pictures on Facebook. I know I find those pictures coming up on Facebook kind of weird.

Congrats,Jens, on the baby on the way. I am not sure if PP is considered a "means tested" government assistance. I know that they do a sliding scale for payment. I hope you can find prenatal care as soon a possible.

I will talk to my dh once my due date gets closer. Looking forward to my ob appt tomorrow. It was weird today I called to confirm my appointment for tomorrow at 3 pm and the receptionist said I had two appts - one with the nurse at 3 pm and then another at 4 pm with the doctor. I figured once the nurse had what she neeeded the doctor would come in as part of the appt. Anybody have an appointment experience like this?

I think they have that at my hospital too. I think my husband needs to take this class. Hopefully, it will be useful to the men.
