K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOctober 2009 K-1 Visa filers

Quick update here. As K & L correctly states, we got successfully hitched by Elvis in a drive-through in Vegas on Saturday, May 22. The ceremony was so much fun. I dressed up as Carmen Sandiego, my fiance was Waldo, and our two guests were Wesley (from Princess Bride) and Dorothy. The theme here is "lost people who found each other." The ceremony was about 15 minutes long and took place in the back of a pink Cadillac. It was awesome - lots of innocent bystanders became our enthusiastic wedding "guests" to cheer on the unusual ceremony.

So, Carmen Sandiego and Waldo are officially hitched. We sent off our AOS/EAD/AP package today and will apply for SSN this Friday. Yeeeeeeaaaaah.

Congratulations! It sounds like it was a lot of fun!

Also, Leenie and anyone else who has an interview after June 4 - if you can pay your visa fee NOW (in advance), do so! The $350 fee takes effect on the 4th.

Well, it seems the "request for comments" didn't really make a difference. I hope everyone will get through what needs to be done with the funds necessary.

Oh good grief. Too bad all the consulates can't do automated telephone calls OR emails like the USCIS site does. Just something simple like ... on ___date___ we sent to you a notice via ___snail mail/carrier pigeon___. If you do not receive this notice within 5-7 business days, please contact us at 1-800-FIA-NCEE.

Yeah, communication is always KEY!

Beth and John, I received your wedding invitation today. Beautiful! I can't wait to take pictures next Friday of you and John getting married!

My friend who is making my wedding dress called today to say that she has it all together and that I ever quit teaching I should go into wedding dress design because the dress is gorgeous! I can't wait to try it on next week! July 11, 2010 can't come quickly enough!

JensJrny2Ray, glad that your insurance has kicked in. Yeah, the more pregnant we become the more difficult it is to move around.  My car is so low it takes so much work to get out of it.

Ah, Marilyn, Emily has that mischievious look on her face.  Yep, mommy, I am up to something.  So cute!

That is okay Ontarkie, I want these babies to come out now. I had been concerned if I would get to 36 weeks and now that I have, I am like, they can come any day now!

Went to the doctor yesterday. Unremarkable. Babies are doing great. One of them is definitely sitting in my pelvis. The ultrasound tech had to really push and prod to get a picture of his head - ouch. Both babies are head down still. The ultrasound estimated their weights at 5 pounds 12 ounces each which is great for 36 weeks.

Last night I started getting some menstrual crampy feelings and my back and belly felt different than before. This morning it feels like someone is trying to shrink wrap my belly but those feelings are pretty random, last for a couple minutes and then go away. I am just hoping something will get started. But so far babies are still on the inside. I am chilling today though.

My cloth diaper stash has made it to Maumee, OH as of last night. Should be delivered by the end of the day tomorrow.  I went to the La Leche League meeting last night. I am glad I went. They discussed the 10 things to remember about newborn breastfeeding and I got to hear from other moms about their experiences including a lady I met at pre-natal swim class who had her little girl a month ago.  They loaned me a book about breastfeeding multiples that I am looking forward to reading.

Kimbear glad to hear that Caihla is getting better and that she is finally getting the hang of latching onto you instead of always having to take pumped milk. Hopefully pumping will be a thing of the past for you soon as she gets the hang of latching on. I really have to hand it to you though, getting up every 3 hours to pump sounds like a lot of work but I am sure it will be totally worth it for her in the long run.

Marilyn, I don't know how formula mom's do it without some additional resources, formula is crazy expensive. I hope all of Emily's shots go well.  I wouldn't be looking forward to that either - from what I hear babies get crabby and sometimes get fevers and such after vaccinations :(

AFM, I don't know what exactly the doctor did on Friday, it was the first time I met him with this practice. I had my group B strep swab and a cervical exam.  Not dilated yet which is good for 35 weeks with twins. But man the pain afterward was horrendous - no bleeding or anything but cervical pain that basically made me lay in bed for 3 days.  Ugh. Today I am feeling a little better. I can sit up which on Friday I couldn't do at all but not for long. I am so ready to have these babies and then start a whole new round of aches and pains. Every joint in my body ached last night and I tossed and turned.

We had terrible winds and rain here yesterday. Spent most of my day in the basement sorting through baby clothes and removing the plastic dodads that hold things onto the clothes. Baby socks were the worse, so many plastic things. DH just came home, I guess his place of employment doesn't have electricity this morning and he usually starts work at 6 a.m. I think I will just stay put for the day. I just turned on the news. Lots of schools are closed because of all the trees down blocking roads and electricity being out.

Marilyn I hope Emily passes this gremlin stage for you quickly. I was reading about the growth spurts at 2, 6, and 12 weeks and like Ontarkie was saying hopefully these will pass quickly.

Kimbear, maybe some extra skin to skin time with you while breast feeding will help you and Caihla get some sleep and help her get better since breast milk is supposed to have anti-bacterial properties. I hope you can relax, rest, and feed your little girl.

AFM, I did try adding another pillow under my leg in sort of a tripod configuration and it seems to have helped the hip pain. The boys have gotten very kick happy. I videod my belly going all wavy and bumpy yesterday because the boys were really going to town. I have a terrible ear ache, not sure why. I gargled with warm salt water and that helped me go back to sleep for a few hours. I think I am going to get a hot water bottle and lay my head on that to see if I can get my ear feeling good again.

Marilyn, glad your little girl is growing so fast! I figure since she started so little it is easier to double her weight, eh?

Kimbear, so glad to hear that Caihla's heart issues seem to be resolved. Continue persevering with breast feeding - sounds like you have good support which is awesome . I am glad you have her home to keep her in a calm environment without "force feeding". Hopefully she gets used to the "slow #######" after having fast flowing bottle nipples - I think I would choke too if I had too much food coming in too quickly.

AFM, 33 weeks, going to see the doctor today. I have had a couple nights this week where I didn't sleep well at all - between back ache, braxton hicks rock hard belly, and hunger pangs. It just reminds me that soon, very soon, these two little boys are going to come into the world and I need to get ready.  I got my maternity photos back the other day.  They turned out so cute. I guess I need to figure out how to attach a photo.  Hum. It has been awhile.

Kimbear, I actually read that the GD issues can decrease at the end of pregnancy because your progesterone levels drop. Dietitian actually recommended two snacks between meals for me because I was so hungry. That seemed to work well today.

Had a surprise visit from my SIL. She had been waiting for her K-1 visa after an interview on Oct. 9, she had hoped to have her paperwork Tuesday Oct 15, but didn't get it until Friday Oct 18. Last night
dh parents were being all vague about whether she would stop to see us on the way to Missouri. She did end up calling us this morning and spending some time with Dh and me. Last night we were thinking they would maybe just pass by because we didn't go to Canada for Thanksgiving so I was glad that wasn't the case.

Marilyn, that is too funny, it seems there are so many cute things for little girls to put on their heads, but they hate them!  My sister just puts it on her daughter anyway and finally she seems to put up with them now.

Kimbear, you are getting so close, that is very exciting!  Glad you are getting clothes for your little girl from far flung relatives. That is sweet.

Saw the dietician and diabetes nurse today - thanks to 30 minutes of exercise every day, I am able to stay away from insulin, for now. Stress can really screw it up. If I end up on insulin, then I have to see my OB twice a week! Um, no, I don't have time for that, but I do have time for exercise. I will do whatever it takes to keep away from insulin.

My understanding is the BC you need for everyting like passport etc is just like the long forms back home, they have to have parents names etc on them, at least thats what i've read for certain applications.

When I saw my DH's Canadian "short form", I was like, that isn't a birth certificate! I am not even sure you can get a "short form" in the U.S. I haven't ever seen any birth certificate down here that didn't have the parents names along with the child's information. Usually they are at least 8.5 by 11 paper or larger depending on where a person is. It is interesting to see how different places deal with birth certificates. My mom had one of those "hospital birth certificates" but when she got her driver's license she had to get one of the "real ones". I keep all of our certificates - birth, marriage, immigration stuff, passports - in a fire proof box in our house. I don't want to have to pay to get them again.

VeeNDee, ahh, that is so sweet about falling more and more in love with your sweet little girl. Also the hospital "birth certificate" is just for decoration. You want the one from your county government that likely has a raised seal or some special "paper" that it is printed on for crossing the border.

Jens, glad your benefits kicked in. $5 is a whole lot better than $1100 for meds.

Swimming seems to be helping me keep my blood glucose levels under control. My morning (fasting) numbers are fine, but some of my after meal numbers have been high. I go for my "follow up" on Friday so I am hoping I don't have to go on insulin.

Kimbear, sorry that you had to have your cervix messed with today.  Sounds not so much fun. Today I had another "vaginal exam" which I guess I will have every week from now until the babies are born.  At least today, the doctor seemed more gentle and I am not having terrible cramps and pain afterward.

Maternity photos had to be pushed back until Sunday. Hopefully the weather is good then.

CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

So my lower back  has been really sore the last couple of days.  I'm not sure if that means anything but i know i've been taking it easy and resting.  No other weirdness other than the occasional contraction that causes me to have trouble standing up straight cuz my pelvis feels like it has so much pressure.  My next appointment is tomorrow.  Wondering if the baby has moved further  down and is now in that  pelvic area.  would explain alot.  Keep reading up on signs of labour since i have no idea what to expect other than what i read.  getting kind of anxious nervous as well.

Sounds like what "early labor" could be. We were discussing stages of labor at my childbirth class last night and she said that back pain and crampy contractions that would make you bend over and stop what you were doing for a minute or so. We discussed that this could go on for days. Hope your little girl has gotten herself firmly seated in your pelvis so she can get herself out when the time comes. What is your due date again?

Yesterday, I was 30 weeks and I was having back pain and bend over moments myself. They basically quit when I laid down, but I have to say it scared me because I don't want my twins to come this early. I need 6 to 10 weeks more to wrap my head around the fact that my life will change forever. Today my DH and me are having maternity pictures done. It is supposed to be a beautiful fall day.  DH doesn't have to work overtime this Friday (the first time in about 6 months!). He is very happy about that. He had been getting crabby about how the US companies work their employees too much.

What are everyone's plans for Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday? DH wants a special meal so I am going to whip one up, too bad that with gestational diabetes I won't be able to eat much of it. Tuesday is his birthday and we are going out to eat for that.

Kimbear, tonight in our natural childbirth they showed a video called "6 steps to a safer birth". I know you were talking about avoiding a c-section and I found these videos to be helpful and thought you would too.  http://www.mothersad...org/videos.html The videos about walking, moving, and changing positions and the one about get upright and follow urges to push showed me things I had no idea about.  I hope you don't have pre-eclampsia and that the blood tests come back negative for it.  Thanks for the ideas on GD. I can't imagine a diet of 1900 calories. I don't think I did that pre-pregnancy, let alone now.  I hope my dietician is good.

Congrats Ontarkie on the little boy coming your way.

Kimbear I hope you don't have pre-eclampsia. Have you tried some support socks to keep swelling down in your feet. My sister swore by them. Hopefully the urine test turns out okay. I am hoping my diabetes education class on Monday goes well. I will be curious what my sugar levels are since I don't generally down 75 grams of sugar in a setting.

lilacvioletirisFemaleCanada2013-10-02 14:09:00

Well it wasn't good news. :(

I am bummed because the results came back that I had four elevated blood sugars. My fasting was 96 when the cut off is 94, then at one hour it was 205 and the cut off was 179, then at at two hours it was 245 when the cut off was 154, then at three hours it was 162 when the cut off was 139. I cried a bunch this afternoon because I hate needles and having to do blood sugar measures several times a day is not something I look forward to.

The ultrasound showed that one baby is head down and the other is breech. Hopefully the breech baby will go back to head down. They are 2 pounds 13oz and 2 pounds 10 oz at 28 weeks which is excellent sizes for twins.

Glucose test done . Phlebotomist made me cry when she put the rubber band on too tight looking for the first fasting blood test poke. Thankfully It got better from there and the other pokes didn't cause me as much pain.

I was going to go out to eat but I forgot my wallet in my swim bag from last night. Thankfully I had my checkbook with me and the grocery store still accepts checks. On a good note, the grocery store had fresh veggie sushi. Yum yum!

I go back to the doctor this afternoon for my 28 week ultrasound, rhogam shot, and prenatal appointment. At least my "haven't eaten in forever headache" gone.

Marilyn, Emily is so cute! Glad she has made it safely into the world.

VeeNDee, I am sorry to hear the challenges you are facing. Have you tried eating extra protein to see if that will help your little one fill out? It is a recommendation for mothers of multiples.

AFM, failed my one hour glucose screen with a value of 189 when it should have been less than 130. I go back tomorrow for the three hour test that requires fasting, boo to fasting.

CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

Marilyn, how exciting that Emily will be here very soon!  Yeah for being dilated half way there already.  Hope things go well for you.

Kimbear, hope you can find something to cure you boredom. I hear you on the DH not always taking good care of himself - my DH has high blood pressure and loves salty food just a bit too much. I too want my DH around to watch our babies grow up!

AFM, I used apple cider vinegar (1tsp with a little water before each meal) last week while I was away from home on business.  I didn't throw up once!  Acid reflux vomiting sucks.  Then on Friday I was home again - threw up twice - once after breakfast and once after lunch. I hadn't take zantac on Thursday night like I had the other nights, so it looks like apple cider vinegar by day, zantac by night to keep my vomiting from a squished stomach at bay.

Monday I go for my GD test. Not looking forward to that at all.  It is the one hour test and I hope I pass and don't throw up.

CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

Glad the stitch did its job, Marilyn!  I find it odd that you were already 4 cm dilated even with the stitch in. Wow. You will be seeing your daughter in no time!

Kimbear, glad you are getting your GD under control. I am scared about next week when I do my GD test.  I keep throwing up after eating sugary food and I don't want to throw up the "glucola" and "fail".  Ugh.

Ontarkie, hope the morning sickness subsides for you soon.

AFM, my acid reflux is kicking my butt.  Even with Zantac, if I am late taking it, I throw up. If I eat too many acidy foods and it is too close to the next time I take my Zantac, I throw up.  I guess this is what I get for not having morning sickness to speak off in the first trimester. Hard to believe that I am 26 weeks along today.

I haven't started to see arms and legs yet on my belly, but I sure feel my baby boys kicks.  This week has been another "stretching" week with intense pain around my belly button.  I know they are growing in there!

VeeNDee, sorry to hear of your insurance struggles. Hope you can get that bronchitis cleared up.

Marilyn, I am so with you on not telling anyone I am in labor because I don't want an entourage at the hospital. During labor and delivery, I want my DH and my doula. After delivery, for a couple hours, I want it to be just DH and me so we can enjoy your little ones before we tell the world. Then at a decent time of day, I will take visitors for me and the babies. Hope you can keep your labor and delivery on the down low so you get the privacy you need.

AFM, threw up this morning for no apparen reason. I haven't had that happen in awhile since I started taking the Zantac for heartburn.  Off to another great day!

Oh, Marilyn that is a bummer about the time of year the OOP resets. Mine used to reset on July 1, but a couple of years ago it changed to Jan. 1. I am just thankful my boys are due in Dec. even though they will likely be born late November early Dec. It is nice when your providers know your name. I am at such a big facility that I don't really feel like they "know me". Makes it tough to feel connected to the doctors.

lilacvioletirisFemaleCanada2013-08-31 10:09:00
CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

Wow, Marily, NST twice a week?  Sounds like you will be at the doctors office a lot. Sounds like they charges are in line with "over and above the global ob fee" just like the ultrasounds I have to have once a month to make sure my boys are growing like they ought to. Only "good thing" for us is that we will meet our out of pocket maximum before we have to pay our part of the global ob fee.

AFM, went for our 24 week  ultrasound to check on the growth of our boys.  Everything is right on path for a 24 week old baby which was reassuring.  Baby A was 1 pound 8 ounces and Baby B was 1 pound 9 ounches so they are growing equally well which is good.

I talked to the doctor about the "laboring" in the OR and found out that although the tour guide said I wouldn't have to the OR unless I was gettting a C section, the doctor said that will go to the OR once I get to the pushing stage of labor. When I asked her about the last natural birth she had attended, she couldn't come up with an example. She said the last few times she has been on call there were lots of scheduled C-sections.  Yeah, that doesn't make me particularly comfortable since I would like to avoid a c-section if at all possible.  Right now both my boys are head down, which is good.

lilacvioletirisFemaleCanada2013-08-30 17:30:00
CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?

Marilyn, I hope your growth scan comes out good. Thing is even with those growth scans they are just estimates. Keep eating healthy and drinking lots of water. I hope the stitch removal goes well for you. Hard to believe that you are so close!  It is exciting to see your dreams come true isn't it!

VeeNDee, glad your little one decided head down was the way to go.  That is reassuring I am sure. Glad that the little one passed all non-stress tests and biophysical profile tests.

Kimbear, sorry to hear about your sleeping issues. Even with my U shaped pregnancy pillow, I wake up with my arm asleep from laying on my side.  Annoying but I haven't figured out how to get rid of it either. Hopefully you can get your GD under control through eating without getting far out there numbers. $145 for 100 test strips, yikes. Is there a mail order place you could get those supplies?

hikergirl, thanks for the heads up on the minor Nexus card fees. Now I just have to worry about passports so I can get the Nexus cards for my babies.

AFM, DH and I went and toured the birth place where I am planning to give birth last night. The triage part reminded me of an emergency room. I told DH that supported my wishes of staying home until I was in active labor because otherwise the tour guide said we could spend 2 to 4 hours in this little room with no windows. All the labor and delivery rooms have outdoor windows which is much better in my opinion. The tour guide told me and 2 other moms pregnant with twins that it wasn't the practice to have all twin births in the operating room. But I am definitely going to talk to my doctor about that too. There were nice deep bath tubs and showers in each room so I can stand in the water if I want to labor there which was good. She even said they recommend that a laboring woman sit on a toilet and rock to help get the baby in the right position to exit the body vaginally. The hospital supports skin to skin contact with the baby after birth which was good to know, but if I am still actively laboring for the second baby that may be interesting.  Nurse said that colostrum tastes like amniotic fluid which I had never heard before. Makes sense though so it is familiar to the baby.

The mother/baby unit was nice with enough space in their large rooms for both babies to stay with us and they are never taken away from the parents unless the little boys are going to be circumcised. I am not sure how my DH feels about circumcision. I guess I need to have a conversation about that.  There is a "watching" nursery if parents ask to have some time to sleep without watching the baby. DH even gets a couch to sleep on. Doesn't look that comfy but at least it is something.
