And it seems like things have slowed down. Yesterday my timeline was Jan. 11 to Jan. 17. Now it is Jan. 13 to Jan. 23. I am sure hoping it will be closer to Jan. 13 because with the long wait for an interview at the Montreal Consulate (right now it seems to be about 4 months) and I really want to have my wedding on July 11, 2010 because all the important people can come then. Ugh. Please CSC process as quickly as you can! I want to marry my man!

I really wonder how they decide which to do first. I wonder if it is by country or if they evenly distribute each days incoming applications. It seems so odd how one person later in the month gets approved first before someone who applied earlier in the month. I know there isn't really an answer but I was curious.

Hello Billz. Visajourney.com is a very helpful. You may find the November 2009 CSC filers forum more useful since their timelines will be more closer to yours. The link to it is http://www.visajourn...howtopic=227509

We won't mind you hanging around though. It is always good to make friends on this journey.

OHHHH! I am so glad to see someone that had sent their application in October and got their NOA1 in October now has their NOA2.

Gives me hope! After reading yesterday through the length of time my fiance' will wait for an interview at the Montreal Consulate, I have been praying more fervently that our approval will be soon.

Leenie, your just 8 days before my fiance' and I so hopefully my timeline will predict our approval date as well. Could you update your timeline to help all of us still waiting to get a better prediction?

Welcome, Kristik. Oh, I so feel the pain of the waiting and the not knowing when things will happen. I am hoping my petition will be approved when VJ says it will be otherwise my fiance' probably won't get an interview at the Montreal Consulate in time for our proposed wedding date of July 11, 2010. I understand the tears too as I was reading through the thread today about people's wait times for the Montreal, Canada consulate to let them know when an interview would be scheduled. I am sincerely looking forward to marrying my fiance'! Intent to marry is definitely there. I am going to pray harder that the CSC processes things as quickly as they can. I think for my situation it will be the waiting for the interview step that will take the longest! It sounds like there are some good people at the consulate in Montreal doing their best to move things along. They just need more people to get K-1 visas processed faster.

Has anyone else looked into how long it is taking your fiance'/fiancee's consulate to go from receiving the packet from the National Visa Center to having an appointment for an interview?

I was so excited to see how far my fiance' and I moved up on Igor's list. Yeah. Hopefully between now and Christmas Eve a lot will get done at CSC! I will be on vacation with my fiance' but when I get back I will be even more excited. I hope that the prognosis of Jan. 12 to Jan. 15 is correct for our approval but I will be happy whenever it comes!

I am glad my fiance' is from Canada. Moving to Michigan will be nothing of a big change in weather. He may actually get less snow.

I am planning to go to Canada for the Christmas holidays. Get to visit with his parents, sister and brother-in-law. His parents are great people and I am looking forward to the change of scenery. January can't come fast enough for the approval process though!

I just found this list. My fiance' and I had our NOA1 on Oct. 15 (coincidently his birthday!) and I had the hard copy a week later or so. We have set "a date to get married" even going so far as to "reserve the church" where I attend but explaining to the church people that it may have to change. I am just hoping that we have our petition approval by March 15, 2010 and an interview for the visa at the Ottawa Canada Consulate by June 15, 2010 so we can be married on July 11, 2010! The forecast for our petition approval looks to be mid January and that is more than good.

So about the expiration dates on the petition approval. It says it is good for four months. Does that mean the consulate has four months to deal with us? Once we have the visa from the consulate, how long is the visa good for? My fiance' wants to work up to a week or so before our wedding and then move to the U.S. I know we have to get married within 90 days and WE WILL once he gets to the states. Just curious as we try to plan a specific wedding day without knowing the specific approval date or interview date.

@Anwesha -> if you already opened an account on their website, there's an option to suscribe to "alerts" , you can choose if you want to receive an e-mail or text (not sure if you can do both) when the case is touched or the status updated

The email alerts don't tell you when a case has been touched, sadly. But it definitely sends an email when the status is updated (i.e. moved from "initial review" to "post decision activity". The day my petition was approved I had been checking about every hour to see if there had been a touch. There was at about 3:15 in the afternoon. At about 7:15 that night when an email was sent saying my petition was approved. A VERY HAPPY EMAIL IT WAS!

Phase 1 done. Now Phase 2: wait for Montreal :S
We can't set a wedding date beforing we at least have a date for the interview but, ive been trying to find out if we can get married in Puerto Rico which is my native country and a US Territory. i know we can travel there for our honeymoon but in terms of getting married there finding an answer has been like finding a needle in a haystack. A glass needle in a very tall haystack. Ive found nothing online so next option is calling the USCIS. Im expecting to be on hold for a few hours :S

Good luck on waiting for Montreal. My fiance's packet 3 just got back to Montreal yesterday. That is interesting to think of honeymooning in Puerto Rico. I have been there once and LOVED it. It would be fun to take my fiance there once he is my husband :)

And people wonder why there are "illegal" immigrants in the United States! My fiance' and I are doing it the "right way". I just wish that all embassies/consulates were more similar in their processing times for getting our loved ones to the U.S. It is strange to see the disparity. Some it is days/weeks to an interview and others MONTHS of anxious waiting.

Oh, and then there are the overly helpful people who say, "But he is just from Canada, can't he just come and live here and work? Why does he have to immigrate?" Yes, I know it is still North America, but Canada is a different COUNTRY! Some people, who like you said have their significant other sitting right there with them, just DON"T GET IT!

How fast does Trinidad get consulate interviews scheduled? At the Montreal consulate where my fiance' has to go, the letter he receives with packet 3 has been saying 4 to 6 MONTHS until an appointment for an interview. Yes, there is lots of courier activities for your lady to complete, but will she have enough to keep her occupied until she has her visa in hand and can come to the states to stay?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTraveling while waiting for visa
A border guard can always say "No" if they suspect you are not being truthful. Tell the truth and do what you said you would, leave when you say you will, and I doubt you will have an issue. My fiance' has usually driven to the U.S. but he said the one flight he made to the U.S. was actually less invasive than the land crossing. Each border guard is different too!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTraveling while waiting for visa
My Canadian fiance' has never had those documents with him (lease, bills, etc) but has always just told the border guards, " I am going to visit my fiance' for the weekend" They usually make him pop the trunk and since he doesn't bring anything unnecessary with him, he hasn't had a problem. I would suggest you not "move anything" to the U.S. in expectation of your visa and the border guards won't likely give you any bother.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisiting the US while K1 is processing
As long as your passport has validity beyond the length of your stay (I think 6 months passed the end of your stay from something I read somewhere), and you tell the truth to the border guard "I am going to visit my fiance' for x number of weeks/days for a vacation" you should be fine. There are those that say to have a copy of bills/letter from employer, etc that say you are going back to Canada. Just don't take all your belongings with you, just enough for the length of trip you are taking.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 and evidence of meeting???
Which service center are you going through? California or Vermont?

My service center was California. I included 4 photos with captions stating date and where the photo was taken (one from our first meeting, one from the night we were engaged, and then another from the next weekend when he gave me my engagement watch and a closeup of him holding my hand with the watch predominately pictured). I included a cover letter explaining the photos in more detail. I printed the pictures in color on cardstock from my home computer.

I also included in the mutual intent to marry section a photocopy of an engagement announcement. In the cover letter of this engagement announcement I provided a web address where the adjudicator could view the announcement online as well.

With this information, my petition for my fiance' was approved in 85 days through California Service Center. I didn't include boarding passes or receipts. I didn't find this site until about a month after I filed and was worried I would get a Request for Evidence. But I got approved without any more evidence than what I supplied.

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPacket recieved from Montreal Consulate... checklist? Medical?
Mail the checklist back with the appropriate checks next to the documents you will provide even though you haven't gotten your medical exam done yet. Think of the list as more of the things you must have with you when you go to the interview. Until Montreal has the packet 3 checklist and documents returned, you aren't in the queue for an interview date.

You can schedule your medical exam for a K-1 visa if you have the packet 3 letter. It takes a little while to schedule it in Canada so making the appointment now won't hurt you. Come on over to the Regional Canada forum and you will find all sorts of helpful things.

Alexis sure is a cutie! I love that cake!

DH and went to see the infertility doctor and it looks like in-vitro fertilization with sperm injection is what we will have to do. Because of DH's very low sperm count, we have to freeze several samples before we can even begin IVF treatments - $$$. Thankfully a lot of the procedures are covered by my health coverage. Hopefully by October we will have a baby on the way as long as we get the money in the right place.

Anybody else have a baby on the way?

CanadaGot Baby? Avez vous un bebe?
Glad to see this thread is still alive and well. Came on tonight to start thinking about removing conditions for DH next summer. Wanted to make sure I was getting my ducks in a row. We are TTC right now. I want to be a SAHM, but with the whole "financial affidavit" I signed, I am not sure if our removal of conditions will be screwed up if I decide to stay at home full time once I have a baby. Not pregnant yet, so it isn't a pressing issue, but I was wondering if anyone else here with babies born during the ROC dealt with any funky stuff if you didn't want to work, but your husband, the immigrant wanted to work.

Don't stress yourself out about TTC that is one of the worst things you can do. We just had that attitude if it happened, it happened, and we were not really trying (I wasn't even sure about when my cycle started/ended since I never really paid any attention.....lol) and it happened within 4 months.

Good Luck...I hope you get that BFP (big fat positive)soon!

Not stressing about it yet. My sister who is younger than me has been TTC for over 2 years and no success. I think her husband really doesn't want kids and that is affecting their ability to conceive, but just my 2 cents. I am just going to take each day as it comes and have fun along the way.

I was reading a few things and did see that you need to start taking Folic Acid at least 3 months before or something like that., I already take a multivitamin but then David pointed out those Materna (?) from Centrum i think they are. I will have to check that site out too, it sounds good.

I just got a prescription for prenatal vitamins so I can get them free from Meijer. I think I remember that you live in Illinois. They have Meijer over there don't they? Although you can get prenatal vitamins without a prescription (I think), the vitamins are free through the Meijer store pharmacy with a doctor's prescription.

I joined mothering.com a few days ago to get in on some forums for women trying to conceive (TTC) There is a forum thread just for women in their 30's (and ones in their 40's and 20's too). I liked visajourney's forums so much and I have been missing them lately since my husband's AOS. Came back today to deal with tax stuff and wanted to see how the ladies with babies were doing. My husband has almost finished his 3 month probationary time at a company (first job let him go after a month but he wasn't liking the job much, this new one is a better fit). I am a little scared about TTC because I will be 35 in June. No time like the present!

CanadaThe Canuck EI Thread
Well, I have to say I am glad my fiance' had a whole day to deal with EI.

The office manager had been sick last week, so first my fiance' had to go back to his place of employment to get his Record of Employment. Thankfully the office manager was back in the office and she was able to prepare the ROE for him quickly.

He said in the previous times he had applied for EI (some 10 years ago) that a person had sat down with him and that person filled out the "forms" for him, but this time he was pointed to a kiosk to fill out the forms on the computer.

Well, the computer wouldn't take a U.S. address. The EI office person said, "Well, what are you doing applying for EI if you won't be in Canada?" My fiance' then told the EI office person about the fact that a Canadian can claim EI if the Canadian is residing in the states. The EI office person then conceded that yes, EI benefits could be claimed while residing in the U.S. but told my fiance' he would have to call a number to get his address as a U.S. address.

My fiance' went back to his now empty apartment to use his phone which was still in service luckily and spent the next 30 minutes waiting for someone to answer the phone, someone finally did, but said my fiance' would have to wait 5 minutes before they could deal with the issue but it took 10 minutes before the operator finally came back on the line and FINALLY updated my fiance's EI claim to have his U.S. address and phone number. To say the least my fiance' wasn't too impressed. He was just so tired of waiting on hold and didn't want to have to wait on hold again so just kept waiting. My fiance' is hoping that AOS goes quickly (once we get married and send the AOS package off) so that at least his EAD is received quickly. I think we will just have to wait and see. I guess this is one of the drawbacks of using the K-1 route --having to wait for the EAD.

CanadaThe Canuck EI Thread

Hey lady...
there is no sample form for the reason of leaving. Just tell the head of HR or whomever does that to put that as your reason for leaving. For both my jobs that I quit, I asked them to use the phrase, quit to relocate to be with US spouse as in order to collect EI spouse needs to be American and you have to be relocating and such.

I would start the claim as soon as he has his last day of work in canada. You're right, he won't get any money until the EAD stuff but at least the file is started and he's in the system adn then once he's in the US, he can file or send or whatever the forms that they need. The out of state claims people are very helpful. I much prefer Patty to Donna btw, she's been a saint to me. They are only okay with sending out the cards so you'll need to keep an eye on that and the pay days. I have found that if I'm within a day or two of sending the new cards and haven't got them yet, I'll call. and if it's a day or two before I'm due to get paid and no cards, I call and we do it over the phone. You are supposed to get cards but they aren't that super at it but they are very helpful when you call and such.

So good luck, hope it all works out, it's a very handy thing to have as a new USA person learning the rope and job searching and such. Having a bit of your own money coming in makes a huge difference.

Hope it works out for you.

Did the HR office use reason K - other in box 16 and then in box 18 - quit to relocate to be with U.S. spouse? That would be easy enough to explain to my fiance' (even though we aren't "spouses" yet when he turns in his paperwork since according to you, he can do that before he leaves Canada). Excellent. I still think I saw somewhere on the Canada forum a "sample ROE" but I may be mistaken. There is an explanation form on serviceCanada which was helpful since as the US citizen, I have never seen a Record of Employment (ROE).

CanadaThe Canuck EI Thread
So, from reading the thread, my K-1 visa holding fiance' should have his employer list "Relocated for spouse/getting married" as the reason for ending employment (I thought there was a sample form, but for the life of me, I can't find it anymore and I wanted to send the link to my fiance').

I am wondering if he actually can't file a claim until he gets to the U.S.? I know he can't get money until he gets his EAD after we get married and file AOS of paperwork, but starting the claim within a short period of his arrival in the U.S. is necessary? He would like to turn in the paperwork before he leaves Canada (aka after he quits but just a day or two before he moves). Can he do that?

Then he moves, marries me, then we wait for EAD, once he gets it, sends a copy to the ïnterstate claims office then start filling out the paper cards they send or do it over the phone? He is saying something about "NO, NO, YES, YES, NO" and then his check comes (it has been 10 years since he claimed EI) as I type this message.

Do I have process for a K-1 claiming EI correct?

Glad to know the joint mortgage probably won't be a stickler. Need to work on the joint utilities.
