Seriously, I don't see it that way and nothing you say will change the way I view it. You are looking for an argument today and I am just not in the mood, so I'm done with this.

Is it because it's the U.S. president that it somehow seems acceptable? If Stephen Harper said:

"My biggest concern is that George Bush says, 'Well, we're kind of tired of Iraq and, therefore, we think we're going to leave,".

You are greatly altering the structure of his statement to make your point. Plus, George Bush said NOTHING about Stephen Harper. You are trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

What's the problem with what he said?

Well for me personally, I don't like his condecending attitude:

Bush said his main fear is that countries participating in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force will decrease their commitment as the mission drags on.

"My biggest concern is that people say, 'Well, we're kind of tired of Afghanistan and, therefore, we think we're going to leave," he said.

What is condescending about that? Seriously, that is a legitimate concern in Afghanistan as some countries have already pulled out. I don't know.

That's a very good question. When Lindsay told me she could get pomegranates in Kitimat for $2, I was floored. Kitimat...the end of the world.....cheaper....it makes no sense.

I have been buying pomegrantes here in CT for $2.00 each since Oct smile.gif

I'm lucky to find them for less than $4 here. I really don't get it.

CanadaVaccinations
QUOTE (Reba @ Jan 15 2008, 06:27 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
All Canadian children who attend school have to by law have vaccinations so they can go to school, so you don't need to get them again for immigration. Just show proof that you've had them, and if you no longer have the record, have your doctor's office draw blood for titres instead. So much easier on the body than getting additional vaccinations that you don't need.

Not necessarily true. My SO went to school in BC and never had her boosters/vaccinations during her teen years. She just had them yesterday.

CanadaScary experience!
I worked in a mom and pop hardware store and had a guy try to return a chainsaw. It wasn't even a brand we carried. So I asked him when he bought it. He said he bought it the day before. "Are you sure you bought it here?" "Yes, now give me my damn money back!"

About this time, I can see my manager standing an aisle over with a hammer, listening to the whole thing. Eddie is a bad dude, and I felt quite assure that if this guy did anything suspicious, Fast Eddie would not hesitate. So I explained to the guy, "We don't carry that brand of equipment, but the hardware store down the road does. Quite frankly, I think you stole it from them and came here to try to get cash for it, but I'm not buying it. So you can either wait here while I call them to check it out, or you can leave before the cops are called." He cursed me then left. We called the other store and he had apparently stolen it less than an hour before. Luckily, he was so pissed when he left that I still had the saw. A guy from the other store came and got it.

That said, the guy that I was dealing with was more crackhead than meth head and really didn't seem dangerous. It was probably a stupid move, anyway.

CanadaMust we Hate America?
Lindsay lives in a VERY small town, so most people know that she's marrying an american. She usually brings home at least one funny story of american bashing every day. It's not vicious or anything, but just silly stuff. One lady told her that the southern baptists (I think I was included in that grouping) were going to brainwash her. People are also lynched if they speaks poorly of Bush, apparently.

This isn't to let americans off the hook. I have a Canadian flag on my balcony while I'm waiting for Lindsay. One of my old friends was asking which apartment was mine. I told him that it was the one with the flag. "I was wondering what faggot had a Canadian flag." huh.gif

It's 68F (20C) here today. It's t-shirt weather. Lindsay told me this morning that their windchill is around -40C in Kitimat.

That's really lame. I don't want Lindsay to have to get this vaccine. Seriously, we both know that we're clean, so why does she need it?

I really hope there is an opt out.

Interesting. Lindsay just went and had her vaccines last week, but not that one. She was getting them out of the way before the medical. Anyway, she had a sexual health exam in March, but I don't know if they tested for HPV. Hmmm.

Hello all!

I have another burning question and topic for discussion. Seems lately I'm full of interesting ideas for VJ's Canada forum.

Have you ever noticed that Grant or Gordon are very "Canadian" names? I believe there are a few more, and I'm sure you all have a few on your minds, too.

I would think that in bigger cities like Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, NYC, Houston, etc. people's names would be similar (I'm NOT taking into account ethnic names).

But so many times I've looked at someone's name and thought, "Andrea. She might be Canadian." If she wasn't, then she was named by her Canadian aunt/Gramma/teacher. I'd say I'm correct 75% of the time.

Is there really such a thing as a more Canadian name and a more American name? To me, British names are more obvious (Kate, Edward, Anne), etc.

Of course, this is all generalizing. But it's an interesting look at culture. We are so similar (in major cities) yet things like a first name might give a clue as to where that person is from.

Some very Canadian names I can think of:
Grant
Gordon
Andrea
Sylvia
Angela
Albert

Discuss.[/quote]
I know one Grant. He has not Canadian relatives beyond our Acadian ancestors. He's a crackhead, really.
I know one Andrea. I doubt she had any Canadian relatives, though.
Sylvia is a fairly common name, not like Sarah and Jill, but there are plenty of Sylvias here.
Angela is another common one, I've known several.
Not sure about Albert, but Fat Albert certainly wasn't canadian.

As for Gordon, I've always thought it was a British thing.

CanadaGood Luck to Vancouverites interviews
Thanks a lot, everyone.

I haven't been able to talk to Lindsay much during the last couple weeks. She's been seeing all of her friends one last time before the interview. It's hard to believe that, after all of this time, the interview is in 2 days.
