I'm so happy for you... I told my Bill about it last night and we both felt for you. I'm glad to hear it's all alright. smile.gif I remember feeling so relieved that we probably won't be getting a RFE already.

Now you just need to wait for your NOA1 with us.

Hopefully we'll get ours today as it's been 2 weeks.

I'm sorry to hear that... I don't understand though, why would the bank think it was fraud? Does that mean it probably never arrived in Vermont and someone else tried to cash your cheque?

We filed 2 weeks ago and haven't recieved anything yet.

Oh my!

I was under the impression that before AOS, I only needed a few vaccinations. The DTaP, Flu, MMR... HVP can be done over there as it's actually cheaper than here, surprisingly.

Would that count for NOA1's as well, then? Since none of us August fiilers are likely to be approved already. tongue.gif

Congrats on everyone that got their NOA1!

Yeah, it must have been very traumatic for you guys. At least you got to spend so much time living together so there won't be any surprises about what to expect when Russ comes over and you had time together as a "normal" couple before the government got their mits on him. smile.gif

Yeah, I was relieved too when we got the check cashed! kicking.gif Congrats!

I think you guys are so brave for either not knowing exactly when you're going to see your fiance/e again.. or having to wait long periods of time. The only reason I try and see him every couple of months is because I'm a baby and can't handle it. I get my student timetable and student loan and away I book. Well done all of you for being so brave and patient.

I feel a bit worried about my trip and not knowing whether POE will be alright, as I only would have been back in my home country for 7 weeks... I had spent 6 weeks there before that. Especially now that we have a K1 filed since I've read lots of horror stories about only getting a few visits a year permitted while it's pending...

However, I have some evidence with me that I'll be returning to the UK.

I have a contract for my apartment that runs out next year and registration letter from my university saying my course ends next year. I also have a return ticket and a letter from my fiancee saying that he doesn't intend for me to stay any longer than a few weeks. Yes, I'm neurotic but it makes me feel a lot more comfortable. tongue.gif I would be heartbroken if I was turned away.

The UK is in the VWP which means I don't need a visa to travel to the US. As long as your fiance has evidence that she's not planning to stay in the US, such as ties to her home country, it should be fine, though don't quote me on that as I don't know the full details of what's involved in the tourist visa application.

Just remember that she needs to be in India to complete her part of the visa process and that will surely be in less than 6 months!!

I'm surprising doing okay right now.

I think it's because I know I'll be flying out to the US in just over 2 weeks to visit Billy for a short trip (assuming no problems at POE!)... and also because (as you can understand), we've waited so long for our chance to file and then to actually get the package sent out, that just knowing our file is in Vermont is reassuring, and a relief. We're expecting our hardcopy NOA1 sometime in the next 2 weeks. Going to be keeping myself busy with work and research for my new psychology project until then.

I'm saving my worries for the NOA2 wait. tongue.gif

Gemmie!!! yes i meant marriage then AOS !!! i wish i had done it now!! sad.gif

should i be gettin my police certificate etc now or wait till i get NOA 2!!

Ohh, I know what you mean. I've been to the US 4 times since getting engaged and every time we're at the airport ready to send me back, I ask WHY I'm doing this. tongue.gif

I've just filled out the forms for both the medical and the police certificate. (Someone on VJ sent me the Packet 3 a while ago so I've been holding onto it!)

For the police certificate, you need to fill in the application, along with a colour passport photo (signed by a professional), 2 utility bills or something that shows your address for the past 6 months, and a cheque for £35. t's valid for 6 months so you might as well do it now, get it out of the way.

I've called the doctor's office asking if I could make an appointment with a doctor or nurse to get some vaccinations and she asked if it was for a holiday. I told her it was for immigration and she got very confused and kept asking me to explain why. Then she passed the phone over to someone else, who told me that I need to come and fill out a travel form before getting the vaccinations; I told her that it's not for a "vacation", it's for actual immigration, but she didn't really understand.

So I'm going to go there next week (it's in another town) and hopefully get some injections on the day, though I'm not holding my breath!

HD - Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Bill also does that. When we're about to say goodbye again, I start to panic. He tells me that everything is going to be OK and that we're in the last 5-6 months now, but that's forever away right now!

Then I meet my friends and they ask when we're next going to see each other (I don't know!), when I'm moving (I don't know!) and when I'm getting married (I don't know!); the worst times are when they try to make me feel better by saying "oh that's not that far away..." - BULLS$IT! Then how come you all split up with your boyfriends back home because of distance??

I was in the kitchen with my housemate a while back and was all excited about seeing Bill again (in December). I told her that I haven't seen him in 10 weeks and she said "oh, that's not too long." mad.gif

DANI - Yes, that's exactly what I've heard too about rushing into marriage when I haven't even finished "the college years" yet. People don't understand that there isn't a choice. There is no visa to be together as boyfriend and girlfriend or an extended fiance visa.. it's just married or not together. I know it's hard but try to look past it. I find it helps to tell myself that they simply don't understand because they've never felt as strongly about their future with a person before, to give everything up for them. We're lucky to have found someone to wait for us - most people wouldn't wait for paperwork and everything else, from what I've gathered.

MARA - YES!! It is so frustrating, isn't it? Does it also annoy you when people make comments about "becoming a yankie" or "turning into an American"? I love my British nationality and it's hard enough leaving my country for another without everyone making jokes about betraying the country (what is that about??).

My brother even told me "whenever you say 'VISA', it makes you sound like one of those Asians trying to get into the country. UGH you're going to be an IMMIGRANT. Illegal IMMIGRANT! You're going to take all of their jobs!!" and laughs! I know he's only joking, but after all of the waiting and trying to prove we're *not* going to be illegal or taking money from the government, it angers me when people make ignorant comments.

I also know what you mean about the NOA2 wait. Loads of things went through my head too; will we be put in AP, will our case get lost, will we end up in the 6+ months thread... it's only natural to wonder about the bad things. But you know that *most* people here get approved between 4-6 months, and even after that. You know that your case hasn't been lost so far. And you know that sometime within the next few months, or weeks, or even days, you're going to look back at the worry and breathe a sigh of relief, just like I did. smile.gif

MARM - I bet it's your approval!! Watch..

COLIN - Glad you had a good time. Just to let you know, there is no rule that says you're not allowed to get married over there, even when there is a K1 being processed. You could have gotten married if you wanted to, but then would've had to apply for a spousal visa, which would've been silly considering how far you've come with this one. Or did you mean just filing for AOS? Because I've considered it before too, but I'm still holding onto this K1 and trying to do 100% the right way.

FRED - Your family will be here within a matter of weeks! Get everything prepared for them! smile.gif

is there anything useful i can do with the new case number?

Not sure, I got mine a few days ago too but no use for it at the moment.

Oh - book your medical!!

Feeling real fed up.. people keep asking me if I've gotten my visa now, or when I'll get it, why Bill might not be able to come visit, why he doesn't have a job, why do we have to wait so long, why I can't go to graduation.. (when I explain that I won't have a place to stay, any money, or the patience to add another 2 months to our wait, they just say "... ohhh but it's graduation!")

I've been pretty mean to Bill lately, I shouted at him yesterday and today for no reason at all other than I'm so p$ssed off with everything. He still doesn't have a job, I'm running on empty funds, and the lack of understanding from people is getting to me.

The final straw was someone who applied in DECEMBER telling me that their fiance is moving NEXT WEEK because the US-UK process was so quick. When we sent off for the K1 in August, she bitterly told me that she would be waiting a lot longer than us and didn't offer any congratulations.. now she's all smiles and informing me about how long it took for her.

I was saying to Mara, everytime I leave the US, I wish I'd just stayed and filed for AOS (considering there was no immigrant intent on entry), I've just seen someone else do this. Bill keeps reassuring me that we're doing the right thing by waiting for the K1 but it doesn't feel that way.

Sorry guys, I don't mean to bring you down. You know how it is - 5-6 months of this argggh.

I really hope you get your approvals soon.

Gemmie, if i could visit my fiancee or him visit me i would have low expectations too, people are not so depressed for the noa2 but more that they cant be with their loved ones smile.gif its a matter of point of view

That's very true, I'm sorry if it seemed like I'm saying to just not have any expectations. It's awful not knowing when you'll be able to say that it's over, I know that. It helped me personally to tell myself that it would take around 4.5 months to be approved as that was the average time. Those that aren't able to see their loved ones for months and months or even over a year are extremely strong.. hold on just a little bit longer, things will fly by after the NOA2. smile.gif

We've been lucky to have a fairly easy ride so far, though I think what made it easier was having low expectations.

We told ourselves we would be approved around late December or January, and we were approved on January 2nd, so were within OUR timeline.

It's harder when others are being approved though. All you can do is know that you'll be approved shortly and know that the wait will seem like nothing once that comes.

Actually I'm finding the notion of having to wait 5-6 months to move a lot harder than the entire NOA2 wait. tongue.gif

Have you ever told your brother he was a presumtive a-hole and can quit giving out the advice he learned from watching ricki lake or maury or whatever day time talk show he watched and then twisted the screwball advice to match your own situation? Cause now might be a good time to tell him that. Also, you should tell him that short guys like him have a high chance of dying of prostate cancer so he should probably just quit trying to live... Long distance relationships pretty much are doomed to failure if they will always be LDR... but uh... if you have actual fairly solid plans to move to be together, then it won't be a LDR anymore... what does your test become then? (and then I read your next post where you mention his girlfriend and his wife? Unless you are referring to the same person as a girlfriend and wife... I think that's actually permission to stab him to death for giving you relationship advice!).

I usually just keep quiet because I don't like arguments with my brother.. but it did play on my mind a lot, and the next time he says something, I promised myself that I would stand up for myself. He doesn't have a wife, just a girlfriend.. he got her pregnant (planned) a few weeks back and I can't help but wonder if it was because of the shock of me leaving since he went through this speech about needing to do something with himself and his life.

You're right Caminic and Mara, this site has been SUCH a help to me.. I actually used to avoid researching for the K1 because everytime I did, I found something else that scared me. When it came time to do this, I found VJ and stumbled upon the most brilliant advice and materials, plus all of these people going through it together! There are times when I read the horror stories but you know what?

I don't really worry about them anymore.. I was terrified that I was going to be denied entry more than once because everyone warned me that telling the truth at POE would send me home.. and I've had no problems, in my 8 trips there and have always said boyfriend/fiance. I was also terrified that we would be waiting months for the NOA2 as I read on other sites and we were approved just before 5 months of waiting.. I read that it would take a few weeks at the NVC, possibly longer.. but according to them, we were in and out within 5 days. Of course it's natural to be scared and things CAN go wrong. I feel awful for those that have been waiting longer or stuck into AP, or denied US entry, or worse. But I've learned to deal with them as they come up, not worry in case they do. smile.gif

Monday, folks! Get ready for some more approvals!

That's harsh, Mara!

I'm guessing it's out of resentment because they're hurt that we're leaving.. my brother reacted all shocked when I mentioned that I'm leaving in June/July. He was like "WHAT?? I can't believe it.." I think he was just hoping we would change our minds or not stay together through all this time, even though he knew about the K1. He then said that I "better not leave before his birthday" and a few weeks later, his girlfriend is pregnant and he tells me that he feels he needs to do something with his life. Hmm..

I don't think families realise how it feels on our ends..

Feeling a little crappy this weekend. I miss my fiance so much since I left him last week.. and what makes it worse is the lack of understanding from family and some friends. My brother told me the other day that me and my fiance are "just a test" as long distance relationships don't usually work out, and in the past has said that we're not going to be together permenantly so I shouldn't interfere in his life, job etc.. it makes me so angry, especially since they've met and hung out together a few times. mad.gif

It mentions that our file has been forwarded to "the Consulate" stated and then they don't list London anywhere and they don't mention the NVC either - isn't it their job to forward it to the Consulate?

Gemmie, you said your NOA2 mentions the consulate, but did you mean the letter from NVC? 1st line on my NOA2 says "The above petition has been approved. We have sent the original visa petition to the Department of State National Visa Center (NVC) . . . ."
The letter from NVC gave a case number then said the case will be processed at: Tokyo, Emabssy of the United States, Visa Unit.

That's the thing, it was the NOA and it said it had been forwarded to the Consulate listed, but not only was there no mention of the London Consulate, but it didn't mention the NVC either.

I'm going to ask Bill to call the NVC to see if they've recieved our case.

Maliciant, it must be fantastic having an actual date to count down to. I hope everything goes well with your trip and with the interview. The UK apparantly takes a couple of months to get an interview unless you have a reason otherwise so if all goes well, Bill will be able to attend the interview with me too (around March/April if he makes it to the UK). Oh and Fred, Mara and HD are on my Facebook list, that's how we hear what others are up to. smile.gif You should get a page too, it's easier to keep in contact around all the AF topic-madness.

Those without their NOA2, don't forget that 1- most July filers didn't get theirs until December as the average is at the 4.5 month mark.. and 2- there were more August filers than usual because of the election. (Remember how it took a month to get the NOA1 sometimes, putting people in August?)

I remember thinking all kinds of thoughts and feeling as though we were waiting for AGES and it was at 141 days that we were approved, you're not past that by much, so yours is coming. smile.gif

I'm back in the UK now.. unfortunately.

The 10th time we've had to say goodbyes at the airport, it hurts so much.. the good news is that Bill may be getting a decent job coming up in property admin; the bad news is that his mother doesn't think it's a good idea to travel to England in March to visit me because of the job. I understand what she means, but I can't take another 5-6 months of not seeing him, and my family/friends are looking forward to seeing him again before I'm carried off in a jet plane.. he only comes once a year, you see.

Anyway, congats on all the approvals! HD and Mara, and anyone else that is still waiting, try not to panic. I know it's easy to wonder if your petition has been lost, we all have at some point. I can understand you being frustrated. You have the same NOA1 and service centre as me so let's hope you get the approval soon.

I agree with you, it's horrendous what happens.. and it's annoying seeing people approved that filed a month after you.

I have to keep repeating to people that just because we were approved doesn't mean we can have our visa now... there's still a few months left of tests, paperwork and of course WAITING! Most people don't understand that. I hate having to explain the process only for the same person to ask me again if I have the visa later. It's just much too complicated and drawn out for people to follow.

I don't know when I'll be seeing Bill next either.. I'm not going to risk entering the US again in a few months and he probably won't find a job that will let him travel.. it might mean 5-6 months until I see him again. I'm dreading tomorrow so much.. we need to stay strong though, this will all be a distant memory soon.

I hope people get more NOA2s released this week. I think it will be a good week.

Still nothing for us but I'm leaving the US in a few days so it would've been nice to have that as something to look towards.. our timeline has gone back a month since we started this, hopefully it won't be taking long for our approval. People keep asking me about the visa and it's frustrating trying to get them to understand that I'm still waiting and don't know anything about my file almost 5 months on..

Happy New Year, everyone! This is our year!

My friend is getting a UK visa.. she applied for her fiance a couple of weeks ago and hers will be over with by the time ours reaches the embassy. All because of this stupid petition stage.. it will take an average of 6 months longer... ARGH!

Fred, the vacation is going great, I so don't want to leave! I hope you have a safe flight to the PI, I bet you're so excited!

It's been 4 and a half months now, hopefully January will be a better month for VSC..

Congrats for the good news, keep it coming. smile.gif
