K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsMarch 2009 K1 Filer
Just wanted to wish you March filers good luck. smile.gif

Try to talk to each other as much as you can because it will be a few months yet - it's good to get the support while you wait.

Also, I never believed it when people told me this and I was in your shoes. Enjoy the time left in your country while you can, enjoy your loved ones. The few months wait will seem like nothing when it's gone, and before you know it, you'll be planning the move. I'm leaving in less than 2 months and I wish I could have more time with my family and friends. The reality is hitting home, and it's kinda scary. I never thought I would feel this way when I finally got here, after being so desperate for it.

Having said that, you have a lot to look forward to. Good luck, guys!

Well done on house hunting and jobs. :)

I'm still looking, but I'm now finally learning to drive and hopefully when I get my license and a car, I'll have more luck with finding a job, as most of the psychology jobs I've seen need one. As soon as I get a job earning a decent wage, we can sign the lease on the apartment that we absolutely love. I came back from the UK last month, it was nice to see everyone, but feel the US is more my home now.

Hope everyone is doing OK, I keep up with most on FB.

My green card has been ordered, I am so happy to be done for 2 years. My husband just said "the whole of 2010 with NO IMMIGRATION ISSUES" and it sunk in that this is real now. I live and (will) work in the US. It's been a long road. smile.gif

I will stay on VJ and pop in to see how you're all doing. I'm also on Facebook.

I'm doing the biometrics thing on the 24th (so basically a week from now), which is why I hope EAD shows up soon after that, too. How long does it normally take?

Mine came less than 2 weeks after the biometrics and only 44 days from filing. You shouldn't have too long to wait.

Maliciant, as long as your wife is happy there, that's all that matters.

I've applied for some jobs at Boston University at a research assistant, and I'm also applying to Meditech as I know someone who works there and she tells me they love the British.. good.gif

My file was transfered to USCIS a couple days ago so I assume there will be no interview. Biometrics appointment is scheduled for November 24th and, overall, I'm waiting for things. Hopefully EAD arrives soon.

Mara, congrats on the wedding (belated, though)! smile.gif

Everyone else, congrats on AOS related stuff and everything else that's happened in the past...... forever. I'll try to be here again. Life's been hectic.

You need biometrics for your EAD, so expect a longer waiting time. smile.gif

its a i693 i believe. it says somthing about a year but i heard this might be wrong

Yes, the K1 medical is valid for a year. He doesn't need to do another one but he will need to get any vaccinations that he didn't get during the K1 process. If he's all set, then he just needs to have the form I693 signed and sealed by a civil surgeon in the US. That is needed for AOS.

I love my husband so much.. biggrin.gif that's it, really.

Needed to say it to someone, and he's at work.

This time last year I was in England, waiting for the NOA2 and counting down the weeks until I could see my fiancee again. Now we're together and our future is looking bright. We have so much to look forward to and I'm so grateful.

Mara and MARM, I know you're going through such a huge struggle and I truly believe that soon you'll both be with your fiance/husband for good. Remind yourself how much you love each other every day, and then treasure it forever.

I'm feeling lonely today as hubby is away for 14 hours a day sometimes from 8am-10pm (working 2 jobs) and I'm out in the country by myself all day. Going slightly mad. You are such a smart guy Maliciant, thanks for your advice!.

Life is good with hubby and ourlittle girl, the only bad part is that we are working hard and don't spend too much time together as we would like.

Plus the other day a fkn police cop gave me a speeding ticket and the mfkrs take you to court you cannot just pay the damn thing!, now I 've been to court twice because prosecutor told me to plead not guilty because the offcier made a mistake, he cannot add, he put I was going 62 mph on a 40mph, and marked exceed box of 10-14 what an idiot!, so now I will have to wait for a last court apperance to face the fkn cop!.

I've heard they never lose its my word against his, I wil be stuck with at least $360 fine. Darn it! it really pisses me off, you have to drive like an idiot in this State I am thinking about moving to Germany tongue.gif

That sucks, I hope it goes well in court. Let us know what happens.

Mara, the wedding looked really pretty. smile.gif

Fred, our AOS got transferred to CA too. I hear most UK cases do, and I think it usually means no interview. That would be very nice, so I'm telling myself that (hopefully) now I've done the biometrics, I just have to sit back and relax with the immigration stuff for almost 2 years. whistling.gifsmile.gif

Life is going good here also, we've just bought a new bed as we've been sleeping in a single/twin this entire time! huh.gif We were so busy saving for AOS that we've only just managed to splurge on a good bed. It WAS $2000 but we got it for just over $900 in clearance (posture-pedic mattress, box spring, protector, frame, and warranty).

We've also gotten a call back from an interview that Bill had for some more work. It's just at Bed, Bath and Beyond, but at this point - it's a job! Hopefully they have good news for us so that we can really start saving on our future on our own. smile.gif

I don't think they'll get the same hang-up with the CR-1 as it's a totally separate visa. People have been told before that their case was lost or stuck in something, and had better luck with the second filing. Feeling frustrated at the moment.

I've applied for some volunteer work in animal rescue care. One of them has already contacted me about working morning shifts (as opposed to the specific shifts I asked for) but I live a few towns over. I was hoping my hubby could drop me off on his way to work but he leaves way too early for my shift. I can't drive, and even if I quickly learned and took my test, I have no car! sad.gif My family all work so they need their cars during the day.

I just had a freak-out at him because I feel so stuck, I want to get my own life here, but after 2 hours of trying to get a position and instantly getting one, I find more complications with living in the country and not having my own transport. There is literally NO public transport out here. I even need a ride to the closest train station. I've been here for over 3 months now and am starting to beat my brains a little bit.

I hear ya, HD.

I love my in-laws dearly, but we've been living together for a good few months now and I just can't wait to move out into our own place. Like you, I am used to my own turf (I lived with 2 fabulous girls in England that gave me my independence). I find it hard struggling to save up and grabbing pennies together for AOS and having everything wiped out, having to start again for our apartment, never quite having enough. My husband has been job-hunting again for more income but nothing has come up. Still, like you said about feeling selfish, my best friend just told me how she's about $5000 in debt as she's been out of work and is moving to college... she doesn't even have enough for cutlery! That really put it into perspective too.

Badgerella - I think there's an example in the forms in the Guides for where your A# is and what it should look like. I think it's on the bottom line of the visa... as someone else said, try checking your 194 to see if they put it on there. If you're really stuck, I think it's the same number on your NOA2 (mine is the same if I remember correctly). As a last resort, make an infopass appointment to get it confirmed.

Hyena - Good luck with the job, things sound like they're manic for you and your wife right now with that situation.

Mara - I can see why you're starting to re-think the K1, I think I would've given up the strength so long ago. I don't know how you do it. Perhaps if you don't hear anything from the lawyer soon about the repercussions for USCIS, it will be the best option (check out the rules for the CR-1 as I believe a K3 takes about a year).
GemmieFemaleUnited Kingdom2009-09-21 18:37:00

I know how you feel.

We've completely wiped our our account by applying for AOS because my husband is still looking for a job with more hours (he works 20 per week). It is hard, but it's doable... remember that the wedding day isn't everything. The AOS is more important in the long run.

After being here for 3 months with nothing to do, it has gotten to me enough that I'm starting to climb the walls a little bit, but I think that's mainly because I want to move out of his parents house and am desperate for us to find more income. EAD and AP seems to be taking only a few weeks at the moment so I'm starting to work on my resume (is it just me, or is really hard to find things about yourself to brag about?) so that I can start looking for jobs when the EAD comes in. Other than that, I've been dying for some independence and the AOS is really the only way forward. It's so important to file as soon as you can. We filed a few days after the 194 expired so I hope we don't get called for interview on that basis.

Good luck!

Fred and HD, it's understandable that you guys have stress problems and that Emilia has developed ulcers again. Honestly, this process is enough to drive anyone insane. Some of the most patient people ever have caved under all the pressure of compiling evidence, meeting deadlines, saving money, POE worries, and of course all of the WAITING! She might benefit from some health or stress management classes, they help with anxiety so that whenever she feels an "attack" coming on, she can try some breathing exercises or tell herself something that helps. I feel myself getting anxious whenever I think about my flight in 6 weeks... I'm so scared of being denied entry that all of these situations run through my head, and my heart just wants to explode! Fingers crossed...

Every time I go to see a new saw movie, I'm usually wondering what the heck I was thinking in the first 10-15 minutes of extra disturbing gore that has very little to do with the plot of the movie (it's pretty much just people being killed horrifically)... and then by the end of the movie of course, I'm digging it, even if I saw the big plot twist coming, those movies really do tend to be well done.

Thing is, the opening sequences to the movies are the most disturbing as they serve as hooks for the gore fans... I don't watch the movies for the gory scenes, so I hate when people say (not you obviously) that whoever watches these movies are sick. I watch it for the appreciation of the story, the morale behind it, the twist, the character of John which is amazing.. I go away feeling scared and appreciative of my life, which is the point. Not to see how many different ways a person can be tortured. Those are just there for the other kinds of horror fans.

Just remind youself Donna (and everyone else who is waiting to see their SO), that it will all be over in March. I know it's quite easy to say, goodness knows that I think next July is a world away from right now... but when you look at people like Kim and Russ, who had a horrible experience like being denied entry and having to wait a year to see each other again; look at them now! They're reunited and couldn't be happier. Many people have said that you forget the pain once you're together, waiting seems like a blur. smile.gif

second... if I was one of your friends I'd do that too... I'd constantly be ooooh, I miss so and so, it's been 20 minutes... except well, it's been a few months here now, what happens when you are getting that from VJ members and your local friends, at some point we're going to b posting PoE experiences and stories like... "I woke up today and told my wife she was beautiful, gave her a hug and shed a tear"... skip the steamy hot section here ..."and went to work where I won't see her until lunchtime, I will miss her so much for those 3 hours"...

As Mara said, I'll be happy to read those kinda things from you guys. Partly because I almost feel a connection with other August filers so it's good to see you happy after watching you be so patient, and partly because I know that my time is coming, just a few months later. The reason it makes me sad when my local friends say it is because I'm trying to adjust to being away and I feel insanely jealous whenever they mention missing their boyfriend who they see every night.

It's only when they mention the "missing".. if they're telling me about an awesome date they had with their loved one, I love hearing all about it. And I especially love when we sit around talking about our partners and the funny things they do, as they have so much in common! I'm quite lucky that my friends take him just as seriously as though he were living in the same city, they don't ask if we're still getting married, they just ask how he's doing... in fact, I've just realised how great and supportive they are whilst typing this post.

Donna, you're right, I would rather they carry on acting normal around me, it's more my own problem than theirs. I can't help but feel a spark of jealousy and sadness sometimes, because I miss having my own loved one around.

QUOTE
My brother always asks if I'm still getting married, I'm not really sure what to think of this other than he's not the kind of person who would be willing to wait through the immigration process, but mostly people kind of get a dumbfounded look on their face when they ask when she is coming here, and I tell them I don't know, maybe *x months*. Either way though th waiting sucks.

QUOTE
oooh i alaways get asked if i am still getting married, and it really does my head in, YESSSS i am still getting married would you still be asking me that question if he lived just down the street lol.

I can sympathise.. my friends are cool about it, but my family are another matter. My brother too is always asking "so when are you getting married, what's going on with this wedding thing?" as if things have suddenly changed in a week, or my dad will ask IF I'm moving to the US... I think the same as you, mostly that people wouldn't be willing to go through the process, or they assume that I've given up on waiting, I don't know.

Best thing to do (in my experience) is to give minimal information because people tend to forget about the process (too complicated, remember when you learned about it for the first time) and just want to know IF and WHEN things are happening.

That was a nice post, Chris. smile.gif

I know how you feel.. I've never been asked WHY I do this, but I have gotten those "looks" when people find out and you know that they're thinking it. It's hard, it really is. I just tell myself (and sometimes them) that I don't care what people think because I've already heard every negative comment you could give, and I know what we have is real.

One of the things that I try to ignore are the comments from friends/family that are sometimes hurtful.

Yesterday, my best friend said "I'm seeing Steve tonight, I miss him, I haven't seen him in ages. Two days! laughing.gif " I'm still feeling really down about being apart from Bill because it's only been 2 weeks, and I have another 8 until I can see him again. I just wondered why she said that when she obviously knows all the details of our situation. My other friends sometimes do it too, things such as "I miss Aaron, I hate Mondays/Tuesdays when I don't get to see him." I know they don't intend to upset me, and they have the right to miss their boyfriends. But it's still hard, when I try to carry on with life amongst the heartache.

I love the Goo Goo Dolls though, and that song especially. In fact I listen to all kinds of songs and think of Bill. He tells me not to, but it makes me feel better in a way. I imagine hugging him at the airport when it's all done, and I think of his funny facial expressions, his smile. smile.gif Flutter flutter.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAugust 2008 Filers
Won't let me edit my post...

Just wanted to add another strike for the K1 being that there's no way I would be able to bust through POE as many times as I have when we're already married. tongue.gif That has immigrant intent written all over it, hence why people wait almost a year apart.

Married or engaged, in terms of your relationship I see little real difference if you are serious. I think having choices tends to make people happier, if you went the marriage route, you'd have the choice to work immediately *OR* focus on adjusting, as a fiancee you haven't got a choice, if adjusting takes you all of 10 days and then you are bored out of your mind... well, you can volunteer or something but you don't have a lot of choice as far as actually working. That and it's cheaper. I'm back to hoping august noa2's start popping off like crazy then... watching igor's list has been dissappointing this week, not nearly enough action!

Based on some of the approvals that have happened recently, it looks like about 4 months for csc filers to be finished... I knew going in it would likely be a 9 month process, being down to 4 months doesn't sound so bad (coming to a 6 month total which is decent turn around time all things considered). Of course, I'm paying more attention to CSC filers in the philippines, canadians and people who speak james bond english likely will be a little faster.

It's a psychological thing, I guess. It's different to me, as much as the seriousness is there.

I would prefer to move over at the end of my studies as his fiancee, the same as I was when I "left".. get married and set up a life together - than get married in the middle of this mess and have to wait to be together anyway. (And based on a few posts I have seen on here from people who went the K3 route, being married does sometimes make a difference in terms of how it feels)

We wouldn't want to risk being stuck in the spousal process which can take up to a year and facing problems because of it. As of next July, my apartment contract runs out. With the K1, I can have it in my hand in advance and not have to panic about it, focus on my studies, and still be within the 6 months.

Plus I wouldn't really have a choice whether or not I wanted to go into work ASAP because I can't drive. It's one of the first things I need to learn when I move over, because there is no way I can go anywhere alone until I get that out of the way. Our area of MA is somewhere you NEED to drive to get by. By the time the EAD comes in, which is only about 3 months, I would have hopefully learned and be able to choose then. smile.gif
