It's only been 2 months.. we waited almost 5 months without a touch and then we were approved.

I don't think so, Franziska. They want to see that you've started it (if you're waiting for AOS to start the series) and unless I'm mistaken, don't follow it up afterwards (?)

Yes, you only need to show that you've had the first shot of the vaccine for AOS. The idea is that you get the others months afterwards, though I'm guessing many women don't.

And you're right, almost all of the people applying to be residents are doing so for a reason. They have ties to America (a job, family, safety) and of course they need the residency approval, so it's easier to get the shot. I also think it's unfair and quite cheeky for them to use such "desperate" (is that the word?) people.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHPV immunization under review
I am extremely happy that this has hit the news.

Many American women are surprised when they hear that I am forced to have this vaccine if I want to live with my fiance/husband and say that they wouldn't feel comfortable getting it themselves.

As the article states, it's pointless giving it to immigrants as 1- it's only transferable through sex so not at any worse risk to the American population than any other STD and 2- most women applying for residency have already had sex.

London allows you to get the vaccine after arriving in the U.S when applying for AOS, so I took that option in the hope that something like this would come up, and I wouldn't have to have it when I got there. I don't think that's likely as I'm applying for AOS this summer, but it's good to see a change might be happening. I agree with the article that this law contradicts everything that America claims to be - for free choice.

everytime we had conversations about his move to the US he always complains about leaving everything behind in Germany and starting all over again here in the US.

As far as I know, that's completely normal.

I'm the beneficary, and I know that sometimes when the conversation comes up, I feel excited about moving. But more often, I complain about it.

I have to leave people behind and that's the most important part to me, and I have those people complaining about it to me all the time. I'm talking everyday, someone is telling me that they don't want me to leave, asking about what I'm going to do with myself out there while I can't work, pointing out potential problems in our relationship that means it might fail. I also have so many things to take care of that means packing my life into boxes, getting passports for everyone, cancelling accounts, visiting people that I might not see again, making decisions about "is this really important to me that I need to move it abroad"... it's really hard.

I understand it's hard being seperated from the one you love, because we are seperated from you petitioners too - but we need your support because we are going through so much change that even if you adapt easily, it's almost impossible not to mourn for your life before you've even left it. I tell my fiance everything, and I know that he gets annoyed sometimes when I complain about his country or my sacrifice, but at the same time, I like his reassurance and that's why I complain. I need him to tell me that everything will be OK, I will find a job, make new friends, visit back home, etc.

QUOTE (rebeccajo @ Jun 10 2009, 04:49 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
The United Kingdom allows fiance/fiancee and they also allow domestic partners. Quite quickly too. If you make an appointment at a British consulate in the US they make the decision that day.

Yeah, I was going to mention this. I know of people that recieved UK Fiance/e visas within a few days or a week after applying. There is none of this waiting for 6 months for petition approval.

The domestic partners (gay or straight) visa is perhaps what sets us apart from the rest. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I think we're the only country that allows gay foreign partners to live together. Of course there are residency limits, I think you have to have lived together for 2 years before you're eligible for that visa, which is great if you've been working abroad and have found someone you want to bring back to the UK, but not so great if there is no possible way to live together for that amount of time to begin with.

Honestly though, it's not wise to complain about the wait when you're possibly only a few months in. Everyone knows that it takes roughly 4-6 months for an approval, and then probably another few months for the visa. It sucks, but that's how it is. Everyone here has chosen to go down the US route for various reasons and that means you have to deal with the US immigration system, even when it's unfair.

Obviously we're not expecting our NOA2 until December, though I'm not even concerned about it. I'm more worried that I'll be denied entry on Saturday.

K&A, I understand what you mean. I'm an August filer and it was beyond frustrating to see September and even October filers being approved when you were still waiting. In fact, there were people that had interviews and visas in hand before some August filers were even approved. It's still happening now.

Also Kirsten, don't worry about the timeline changing. When we started out, mine said December 11th and it kept being pushed back until it was at the end of January. As it was, we were approved at nearly 5 months, on January 2nd. The timelime is affected by others not updating their status, making mistakes, fluke approvals, etc.. just concentrate on the average of 4-6 month wait, and it's easier at least a little.

I hope you're all hanging in there, your time will come. smile.gif

Apparently it feels harder the closer to the NOA2 you get.

The only reason I felt more anxious was because people were getting approved everywhere I looked, even though we had filed before them. Then it was constantly checking the website.

Overall, we waited nearly 5 months and it didn't seem so bad until the flood of approvals started coming in.. as long as you don't have high expectations.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSept 2008 K1 VSC filers
I wouldn't worry about it. The RFE usually comes JUST before you get approved, and once you send back the information they ask for, it takes another 10 days or so. (aprox of course)

And the order doesn't matter either. As soon as it gets there, it's all put into one of their folders and split into the sections that they want it in. As long as you have everything they're looking for, you'll be fine.

Good luck, September!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsI think they lost mine!
This time last year it was taking 5-6 months on average for the NOA2. Ours took almost 5 months and that wasn't too bad at the time. I'm always really shocked when I look at the progress this year and seeing people stressing out over a month or less. But then I guess if the processing times have really gone down in the past year, it's easy to get caught up in expecting your approval sooner.

Be patient. The poster above me waited 7 months before her case was confirmed to be lost. Yours is doing fine, especially seeing as you were touched not too long ago.

While our wait for NOA2 me and my better half were checking on things what we could take care of for our ongoing process to kill some time till we get NOA2 in our mail! For the I-134 we were wondering if Mike would have to make the income for a two household (just me and him) or if he would need the income for a 4 people household matter of fact we gonna be living with his parents till I´m getting settled and things become back to normal??? Thanks for your help!

Hey guys!

Just checking up on how the October filers are doing.

Laura - Sorry to hear about you and Tom. For what it's worth, I think you're making a very mature and sensible decision. Emigrating and getting married is a huge thing, especially when there aren't any other options, and even though we've had our own share of problems with coming to terms with that, I completely understand why you feel it's best to wait.

I was looking through the medical questionnaire the other day and came to the question 'Have you ever had any mental disorder or depression?'

A couple of years ago I went to the doctors with symptoms of depression so he asked me to complete a questionnaire. After that he told me he thought I had mild depression and referred me to a young persons counsellor for a couple of sessions. Because I wasn't put on medication and not officially diagnosed (I don't think it went on my medical record) should I answer yes to this question?

Yeah I don't think it'd anything to worry about. I went to the doctors too with PTSD after my mum died and he referred me to a counsellor. I had one session and never went back, and I don't think it went on my record. At least I hope not, because the last thing we need is to be accused of lying. tongue.gif

In the beginning when I first filed the i129 I had no idea that was just the beginning. I guess I was nieve in thinking I just file the papers and poof he would be here, WRONG. blush.gif When i started reading about the process and all we have to go through to be with the one we love, it made me sick to my stomach.

I understand that feeling, we were naive in thinking that it would just mean one of us moving to be with the other, and that would be it.. I had just started a 3 year degree and thought he could simply move to the UK and we could live together! I was so wrong.. I was devastated when I started researching how to be with him.. It was too much to handle after having just moved off to university and I locked myself in my room for about a week, trying to figure out every possible way to do this!

I had to accept that it would be another 3 years before we could be together as a normal couple. I saw months of waiting, hours of paperwork, restrictions everywhere, and marriage being the only way to live together. Now I've had time to accept the options and feel much more relieved that we've finally sent off the application after waiting 2 years to do so.. it was worth it. smile.gif

Congrats on all the NOA1s... just remember, a few months of waiting and then you'll be busy preparing for the big interview and move! Some could call the preperation exciting..

I've been really bad lately with being prepared for the next step. I did want to send off for my police certificate but it asks for more passport photos that need signing and I also have to travel to another town to get my vaccine information. We spent so long getting the petition ready and making sure everything is ready that I can't be bothered to do any more paperwork! But it's what we have to do.. this week, I will accomplish!!

The cheapest we ever got was £270 / $540 (at least with the exchange rate back then...) and the most expensive £650! To be fair, that's with a travel agent and now I book with expedia too, so much cheaper. On average it's about £400 including bus tickets though.

It's a shame that you can't see Tom this Christmas, but keep focused on next year and how you'll be together probably in spring/summer.

That's very true.. it usually costs us around $800-1000 from London to Boston, which is 3000 miles. It's not a lot in comparison to most places, but it is when you're living on a student loan and booking 4 flights a year. tongue.gif That's $3,000-4,000 of my budget gone. This leaves me with $6,000 for the year! Of course, I don't regret a thing. As long as my rent is paid, my ticket is booked and there's food in my cupboard, I shouldn't complain.
