Um, you'll have to ask the school about that. I don't think anyone here is going to Kentucky or knows what isrequired for school enrollment. I know that in Massachusetts, you can enroll in state school after 6 months of residency and private schools after 1 year (showing a green card).

Research in your local town/school.

An update on Donna-marie:

London has requested an original of the 134 form as she presented a copy; she's sent this in 2 weeks ago and is waiting to hear back from them. Also, the father of her children has requested further information on how her son feels about moving to the states so the case has been adjourned until June. She doesn't feel like posting on VJ at the moment. Let's all keep our fingers crossed for her.

Yeah, it's difficult isn't it.. but like you say Fred, we'll be having the summer together which is awesome and kinda a honeymoon in itself. smile.gif I spent 6 weeks with him last summer, went back to England for a few weeks to work, and then went back again for another 4 weeks, so I was incredibly lucky. But the thought of not being seperated again = AHHHHHH!! biggrin.gif

He said he'll purposely take us out on a drive to Boston one day, and go near the airport just so we can have the satisfaction of DRIVING AWAY. Usually the signs for Boston Logan International Airport make me upset, but now I can be happy! (Has anyone seen that Nicholas Cage film 'Knowing'? There's a scary scene in that that relates to this..)

Hope everyone is having a nice day. I understand Badgerella, I'm finishing my dissertation, studying, and writing assignments.. it's absolutely gorgeous outside though. But let's keep going!

Cool. smile.gif

Yeah, I've been looking at places we can go together as a mini-honeymoon, but seeing as we can't leave the country and we have little money left after the AOS process, I don't think it's too likely. I'd just like to be able to have some acknowledgement that we're married other than a paper, you know? We'll see!

Hope time is ticking fast for everyone else, too.

Have a wonderful day, shefellfromheaven, you deserve it.

How is everyone else doing? I have 3 weeks left of college, can't come quick enough. We're also trying to sort out the marriage, like whether we're going to have a wedding or just a legal ceremony. We were going to hold off on the wedding as my brother is having a baby this summer and people from the UK may need more notice who haven't got the money or passport... so were going to have a legal marriage, kinda pretend that it didn't happen, and have a wedding next year; but we don't really want to go a year as legal husband/wife without a celebration. Considering something small and nice. smile.gif

Wow, quick travel. smile.gif

My bad for not knowing the details about the CR-1 and the 6 months living together rule.

I know that there is a visa available in the U.K for unmarried partners so originally me and Bill jumped at the chance - getting to live together as boyfriend and girlfriend, yes! Then we saw that there was a 2 year living-together-abroad requirement; but you need a visa to be able to spend 2 years together! So it seems silly. That's when we opted for the K1 which is the only thing available for singles who want to be together (since work visas are just too damn hard to get).

The K3 would be available but that can take up to a year anyway so you might as well stick with the K1 attempt? It must be so difficult for you.. please tell us the moment you get good news!

I'm glad she's settled in well. We want to get the AOS filed quickly too. I can't stand the thought of having nothing to do at all for months and months. Plus, I want that AP so that I can go and see my newborn nephew (born in August). smile.gif

Yeah, I am a little concerned about the adjustment but nothing more than the usual 'what if' stuff.. I'm worried I'll lose my independence so we're working on that now, figuring out things I can do while I wait. And trying to tell myself that I'll not drift apart from my family and friends over here, we will still all be close.

Congrats on the marriage, Cuchita. smile.gif Wonderful to see it happening for you guys.

Thanks guys.

I have school to finish too, but plan to flying out on June 14th. I'm having a huge party the night before I go with all of my friends and some of my family. That will be kinda fun, except my friends are pretty upset now that I've been approved because they don't want me to leave. I know there are going to be lots of tears and pleading.. I'm trying to keep things into perspective and remind myself and everyone that I'm not leaving Earth - just England! There'll be visits, the phone, texts, packages, etc... and of course, I'm so excited to not have to leave Massachusetts in tears again. smile.gif

I really hope everyone else gets what they're currently waiting for.

I ALSO HAVE A HEART ON MY STATUS!

Hey guys, we are APPROVED!! dancin5hr.gif

Interview was a piece of cake, other than the 5 hour wait.

I gave him passport photos, my birth certificate, 134 form with a tax return and my police certificate. He didn't ask me for evidence of their U.S citizenship or any more supporting evidence like pay-stubs, etc. or relationship evidence.

The actual interview went great, too. The nice American man asked me how we met, what Bill did/does for a living, when I finish school and what our wedding plans were.. then told me that he was going to hold onto my passport (I gasped inside for fear of AP) so that he can put a nice visa inside. smile.gif

I travelled for 7 hours today and waited for 5 in the waiting room, with a headache and anxiety, but it all turned out great.

Thanks for the support, guys!

Thanks guys, it really means a lot to have this support behind us.

My family and friends have been asking me all week about my "citizenship" or asking again why I need to interview, or even forgetting what it's for (after all of the questions about when I'm getting my visa).

My dad said nothing but "yeah.." when I told him all about my preparation for the interview. I think he's still kinda upset that I'm leaving. He keeps saying he wants me to be happy, but he's not good at hiding how sad he is.. and I've heard how my brother and his girlfriend feel about me leaving, they think I'm being foolish and naive. I'm a little worried that they're just waiting for us to fail so they can say "told you so". There's nothing I can do to change peoples' minds, except remind them that we will be in contact as normal, and I will visit as often as I can. None of them have been through this experience, so I feel they don't have much right in saying what is or isn't naive.

Anyway, my point is that it's nice to share the process with people in the same boat.

I really hope we're not given a blue slip tomorrow (for a small thing on one of the forms, or perhaps something we missed). Mara, Dani, Fred, all of you that have had to wait extra long, I cannot imagine how it must feel to have to be put on hold with no answers (for many different reasons), and for that, you are admired. We're the only ones who knows how it really feels going through the process, and I hope everyone gets comfort from this.

It's exactly 4 months since our NOA2 tomorrow as well, so it will be a nice little celebration if our visa was approved on the 4 month "anniversary" of our approved petition. And as I write this, it's exactly 1 week since I last saw Bill, and 6 weeks until I'm back with him. smile.gif

THanks for the good luck wishes... I'll tell you all the news!

Ice cream works wonders, Maliciant.. I find it's better than any medication, even if it is short-term.

Getting the relationship evidence ready for interview.

London apparently has never asked to see anything, but I want to make sure we're fully prepared just in case. Plus it's nice to have something for us to keep. I'm making a scrapbook full of pictures, boarding passes, receipts, cards, etc. and my best friend is an artist so I'm going to get her to paint a merged American/British flag on the front with lots of glitter and colours. smile.gif

I love lazy Sundays!

So far then, we have;

Birth certificates (me, fiance, co-sponsor)
Medical report from exam (even though I don't need this until AOS)
Police certificate
U.S sized photos
134 from both fiance and co-sponsor (along with employment letter, pay stubs, bank statement, tax returns)
Letters of intent updated
NOA1/2 (my NOA2 date is exactly 4 months to the day of the interview so I think I'm fine if I take the NOA2?)
Appointment letter
My U.K passport...

is there anything else??

Thanks for the kind words Dani smile.gif and HYENA. And I appreciate you all sticking around and i am truly happy you are all moving forward with your visas, at the same time seeing so much happy news that I can't be a part of makes it really hard. Every day I literally run to the mail when it is shoved through the door, and feel crushed to once again find nothing and then frustrated that after 9 months we know absolutely nothing. 9 Months! I honestly thought I would be married by now, and looking into how I can get my SSN, Teaching License and more! Argh! ranting33va.gif

The other bit is that in 7 weeks I go back to Aus, and that is crushing in itself, if I go back with out a NOA2 I have nothing, no job, no car, and no idea when I will get to see Chris again. cray5ol.gif

I'm honestly at the point that I wish I had a time machine so that Chris and I could have married when he asked me and simply adjusted status from that.... crying.gif

A lot can happen in 7 weeks, Mara. smile.gif

I completely agree with your trip to the U.S and you can't put a price on that; (well, you can, especially for that distance, but I'm sure you would prefer to spend 3 months together than have the extra money at this point) you really needed to be together. When Bill came to the UK for 2 months, it hit us really hard financially (as Bill was still unemployed and we needed everything for the move), but it was worth every penny we struggled with. I know it's not really the same because you don't know when you'll be approved, and we at least knew there was an end in sight in a few months..

Enjoy your time together, you're still there for almost TWO MONTHS and it will be amazing to simply be together without having the stresses plus the distance. If you're feeling frustrated, get Chris to make you some tea and cuddle you, that works for me. And know that you may hear some great news in that time. If not, you can start making some more plans on what to do (getting married and going K3, or just keep harassing USCIS, finding another job, etc).

Congrats on the ticket booking Freddy, let the countdown begin!

Page 2 again!

Bill is leaving England tomorrow. We were so incredibly lucky to get 2 months together, and we really needed it too. For a bunch of different reasons, I couldn't take it anymore and needed him to get here. We've sorted so many things out that you can really only do in person (to show results, not just promises).

I am scared of seeing him off at the airport again. It feels like we've been together forever as a normal couple. Last night, we spent an evening cuddling in bed together drinking tea and reading a magazine, and it was so perfect. It's the 11th time of goodbye. BUT keeping in mind that it's the last time seems to help, as done reminding myself that there is an end in sight. I also think of those of you who have been really unfortunate in this journey and think myself lucky.

Interview is on May 5th (next Tuesday) so I'm hoping to fly out June 13th if everything goes well. I have schoolwork to finish and my friends are throwing me a party the night before I leave. smile.gif Should be nice.

Hope everyone is good?? I want to see some chats in here!

Hello August Filers!

It's been a long time since I've posted in here because Bill is still in England with me. He was supposed to be here for 4 weeks but there were a lot of issues to deal with, both with us and everything around me. You know how it is, the K1 process along with work/uni stresses, family stresses, money stresses... I don't have much time to be online and to be honest, I don't miss it much! (though of course, I miss you guys..) I often think of you all and wonder how your journeys are going.

I recieved an interview today. FINALLY.. we waited 8 months to get here, so it's quite comforting to know the end date, after all of the misfortunes of delays with paperwork and medical stuff. Our date is May 5th. We still need to send over the financial information and still need to make a scrapbook of our relationship evidence but then we're home free.

I can tell you now, I never knew this K1 stuff could possibly be such an exhausting ride.. I started off feeling positive and even excited, but it really knocks it out of you, doesn't it? I can be completely fine, but then one person asks me about "haven't you got that visa yet?" and the frustration builds up again.. our relationship has really been through it lately, even resentment has come up over this visa and moving business. We've talked a lot these past couple of months about how to make changes to stress each other out less.

How is everyone doing? I see that Mara has applied again. I really think this journey will be a lot less annoying than the last one sweetie, the expedite should help a bundle. And a 3 month visit?? Wow! Enjoy all the time you have together and support one another of course. I see that HD is all ready to go? When is the official flying day, sis? I see that Freddy is still waiting in AP??!?! I'm appauled at that, man.. I don't undestand much about the AP process, if you can call it that. But I really hope you and Emilia are hanging in there, you'll shortly be together, I'm sure. How is everyone else?

Sorry I haven't been around for a while, Bill is visiting me in England so I haven't been coming online much at all. We're going through tough times (as everyone is) and I just needed to have him by my side.

Updates - I've had my medical examination. Everything was fine, I'll write a thingy in the UK forum about the experience. Only took about 30 minutes though. I'm sending off for my police certificate and returning packet 3 today to get an interview date.

HD - CONGRATULATIONS! I knew you'd get there. smile.gif When is the POE?
Fred - What's happening with your AP? Are you still stuck?
Mara - I see that you're re-filing (with an expedite)? What did they tell you??

I really hope everyone is OK, I don't have time to look through everything I've missed.

You don't need to do AOS if you CR-1, I believe (which is probably the quickest and easiest way to move back to the U.S as husband and wife). I have no idea if he would be turned down for the same thing with the CR-1 though, I'm guessing there is a stage where they check the criminal record.

So yeah, perhaps your options are the waiver (to get Paul to come to you) or moving to the UK (which on the plus, is cheaper and quicker than applying for a waiver). I understand you don't want to move. I hope you make the best decision for you.

Yes, I understand the 3 cats move will be an issue, but I'm sure you'll figure it out. I completely understand, too. You'd sooner cut off one of my limbs than separate me from my two munchkins! I can't imagine why so many people on VJ give up their animals to move to the US. They don't quarantine pets the way they used to, unless you're a high-risk country (a family friend had to give all her animals... count 'em 9 cats, 3 dogs, a horse, and fish when she and her husband got stationed in South Korea. Crazy.

I would hate to give up my animals too (right now I have a hamster that I'm giving away but if I owned a cat or dog, they would come with... ) but I do understand why people can't.

There's a whole other process to move your pets to the U.S that involves money, time, and stress. I can see why people choose to give their pets to a loved one to look after rather than put themselves and their pet/s through that.

Especially because if you're willing to give up time with your bestest friends and closest family members, pets are really no different. And that comes from a HUGE animal lover. My pets are always my best friends, but best friends lose out on this process too. Just sayin. wink.gif

I hope you get this sorted, PB&J. Remember that there is always an option.

That must be very difficult, Aubrey.

I agree that it makes more sense to wait a while until you bring Andy over. If you're struggling with your own expenses, I can see why you feel it's best to hold on before adding another person to the mix. I know that he's been struggling to find a job also; Bill had the same problem. He couldn't find a stable position for 2 years and this April, he finally got something. smile.gif

Bill was here for 2 months with me, and for some stupid reason, they decided that us students could live off £500 a month for 4 months ($1500), including rent (which is over half of it) and bills. I found it very hard to pay for the both of us, and it put a bit of strain on the relationship at times as we often miscalculated our budget and ended up blowing through everything too quickly. We learned a lot about what it takes to handle money together, and how much it really costs living together when one is unable to work.

Things will turn out fine in the end, I'm sure of it, even though it's hard to read others making the move right now. I sometimes find it frustrating knowing that it would have been almost 11 months since we filed until we were able to be together. Just know that your own time will come, and you'll be posting exciting news.
