United Kingdomswine flu
I'm travelling, no matter what.

I've gotten on the plane knowing there was a chance my eardrum would burst. wink.gif

I'm sure everything will be fine. But I'll make sure before flying my family out.

Hmm I think you'll be fine, Magpie. smile.gif

There's been a suspected case in Bath too, but it was nothing more than that - suspected. It could have been many other things yet because of the hype over swine flu, everyone breaks out into panic.

United KingdomHELP - Arrived in the USA but nobody took my brown envelope
Wow, that's a bit worrying that none of them knew what a K1 was and never questioned it.. anyone could have gotten in, then!

I would call the CBP too (we've once done this, they weren't the most pleasant people in Boston) to tell them when you arrived on your K1 visa and that you still have your brown envelope you needed to hand in as no one took it.

Blonde Reception Biotch and Miserable Blonde Doctor could be related, for their facial expressions are identical.

I had that miserable blonde doctor for my physical exam, she barely spoke two words to me after the initial questioning, just kept that look on her face that she wears so well. whistling.gif

United KingdomTHAT miserable receptionist at Bentick Mansions
I had no idea about the legend of the boetch before my medical. I thought everyone was talking about a receptionist from the interview dates.

But yeah.. I was asked to go to the waiting room, and then she came out (at least I assume it was her because she was the one who was consistently abrupt when I came in); she called my name and I looked over and said "yes" (thinking it might be time to come through)... she replied "you're going to need to stand up" with the crappiest look on her face.

I don't remember much else other than her acting annoyed whenever she spoke to me.

I later accidentally walked into her office when she was going through paperwork with another patient. I apologised, gotten the wrong room and all that, but face was like thunder. The X-ray man laughed at me..

United KingdomPlan B anyone? (K1)
If I couldn't get into the U.S (and it looked like a waiver would take forever or the same reasons would exist with a K3) then Bill would move to England.

We even seriously considered this a few months ago when Bill was still failing to get a job in the states.. his job market was awful, so we thought if I could get us a place and a full-time job, then we'll do it the other way, especially since we know people that recieved UK fiance visas in a week!

Luckily, he grabbed himself a job and our visa was approved without problems. Now it's just convincing people that me leaving isn't the end of the world..

When you say I must have "do intend" checked- is that the area on the I-134 where (#11) where I check that I do intent to make specific contributions to the person named in #3? I read in an immigration book that I should check do not intend. eck! So I should proably redue this and resend it to my fiancee right away.

My fiance put "do not intend" and our interview went fine. BUT we did have a co-sponsor who ticked "intend" with room-and-board.

QUOTE
A question on a similar note (and maybe I should really start a new thread for this) the dates of the items I sent him (I-134, check stubs, letter from employer, bank letter and stmt are from last Dec) We had some issues that held us up so we were not able to send the checklist in until this week.

Is it advisable that I resend these items so its closer to interview or can I send them addtional items (bank stmt, letter from employer) to suppliment everything else my fiancee has?

They only took a copy of the 2008 tax returns for me and the 134 forms.. I did have bank statements, letter of employment, and tax returnds /W2's for about 3 years.. I would recommend getting this year's tax returns if nothing else as they're the first thing they'll want to see, I reckon.

On topic, I did want my fiance to come to the interview but he left the UK about a week before the date. I was really nervous, but managed it all by myself (proud biggrin.gif )... he did get to help out by messaging me London directions from Google and calming me down, and the interview was pretty painless except the waiting which would've been the same if he were with me... so all in all, it was £400 well-saved.

United Kingdomwhy dont people get how stressful this is
I used to get frustrated hearing the same people ask me the same questions. I would explain it to them in simple terms ("we've been approved for the first step but waiting on the next, will take a few months") but a few weeks later, they'd ask me if I have a visa yet. In the end, I just stuck to shorter answers.

I've also had the people that are shocked to hear how you met online and get questions like "so what do your parents think of that?" with a disgusted expression, or "how old were you when you met for real then?"

In fact, the IO processing the K1 at POE the other day first asked me how old I was, and then said he thought I was too young to be getting married. I tried really hard to keep my mouth shut (just told him we'd known each other for 6.5 years so it's not rushed) but in reality, I wanted to tell him that his personal opinion isn't needed, and that perhaps if the US government allowed unmarried visas, we wouldn't be here yet. tongue.gif

My advice is to try and shrug it off. I know it's hard, but at the end of the day, it only hurts you... remember that there are people that REALLY understand and those that just want a quick answer. GIve them that, and then move on.. you know what you're doing, that's all that matters.

Is there a driving reason why you couldn't quickly get married? and file your AOS?

We wouldn't be able to file AOS immediately as we simply wouldn't be able to afford to get the vaccination, pay for CS, ceremony, AOS fees and a return flight ticket too. It's at least $2500 for the AOS and flight right now. Plus the funeral might be within a week and we won't have time to do all of these things.

I'll look into re-validating the K1, do you know who I contact for that?

United KingdomVisiting UK multiple times?
My fiance traveled through Heathrow 3 times and only had problems once. They asked how he could afford a month off work and he told them that his boss agreed that he could work from the UK (online for him)- WRONG ANSWER! They questioned him for about 10 minutes, asking all about our relationship and his work rights. Rightfully so, my fiance wasn't very clued up on what NOT to say since I had focused so much on not disclosing relationship info.

Other than that, no problems. The other two times, they just asked what he was doing here and if his fiance was British, and then stamped him in.

Your evidence sounds OK *to me*... pay stubs and an employer letter, plus the fact that your passport shows you always leave should be fine. But obviously don't quote me on that.

Of course he is, lots of people come in on the VWP and then leave afterward. I did not a problem at all.

If he stayed to adjust status as you suggest in the circumstances the OP has outlined they would nail his ####### to the barn door for sure.

Again, you're on a spousal visa, and the OP is on a fiancee visa.

I'm not suggesting he apply for AOS after marrying on the VWP, I'm suggesting they not marry (officially or unofficially) until they have that visa.
GemmieFemaleUnited Kingdom2009-08-13 14:58:00
United Kingdomworst case scenario - help!
I don't think he's allowed to leave the US after marrying. He has to adjust status and wait for the AP in order to leave again. Then again, I don't know how that works if he doesn't sign the license...

It seems risky to me. I wouldn't want to do anything that might jeopardize the outcome after waiting so long - if the IO at the interview questions his quick visit to the US just before, or if it comes out that there was some kind of wedding before the K1 was issued and used. He also risks being denied entry on the VWP or Visitors visa.

Worst case, I imagine you could contact them and let them know the date of the wedding. They have another 8 weeks to respond, I've heard they take 1-2 weeks, so hang in there.

edit - Lansbury, he's entering on a K1 which is a fiancee visa. No marriage papers are allowed to be signed because then they would have to start the process over with a spousal visa.

I agree. Are you saying that you wish to marry in the US but move back to the UK afterwards?

If so, he can get married in the US on the VWP (visa-free). Be cautious of giving away information at the border though as they have the right to assume that he'll try and stay - and turn him home. Then you can go through the process of gaining a spousal visa to settle in the UK. This is more expensive but quick.

If you wish to marry him in the US, have him leave, and THEN settle there later - you can marry on the VWP as before and then begin the US spousal visa process. This takes a lot longer (up to a year).

I agree. If your Police certificate says "no live trace" you have to follow up because your name IS in the Police computer and you may get questioned about it at the interview. Even just for curiosity sakes! to think you have never been in trouble with the police and then find out your name did cause a hit would be pretty crazy!

That's why I'm struggling with the concept of mine coming back with "no live trace" when I'm certain I've never been in trouble with the police.

All I've had is a written warning about playing in my neighbour's garden when I was 10 years old, nothing since. Do you think this is going to be a problem at any potential jobs?? Because this is crazy.
