im a newbie here but ive been reading so many experiences and i must say vj members have helped me all along this way... my interview is a few weeks away and im so nervous..ive been so long away from my fiance i dont want us to be dissapointed.., i would really appreciate any tips and guides for my interview..  thank u in advance.. and good luck to all those whose putting up with this distance thats keeping us apart from our sweethearts.

Hi there! Welcome to VJ! :)

You can check out Guyana embassy reviews here: http://www.visajourn...&cty=&dfilter=5

You can also narrow the search to your visa type when you click on the dropdown menu at the upper right part (labeled topic) in that link.

As for advice, be confident and respond to all the consul's questions truthfully, and wear your best smile on that day. Stay positive and think that all this waiting is definitely worth it. You're almost there. All the best to your upcoming interview!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAdvise Pls.

Hello VJ!
Received NOA2, while waiting for MNL# i want to print out our conversation.
Is it okay if i will just print out our conversation from the time we apply the petition up to present?
Thank you.

Don't print everything. Pick and print worthwhile correspondences only on special occasions like travel plans, birthday, anniversary, Christmas, valentine's, etc. I would suggest limiting it at 30-40 pages max.

Happy walking down memory lane!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresi-129F filling it next week, need some basic help

Place it after the I-129f form pages.

^^ This. and Label it "Supplement sheet of I-129f form", or continuation sheet. Write the Parts and Item numbers that your answer is referring to.

Do the same if additional space is needed as well in other forms, and don't forget to sign and date the supplement sheets.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresmailing address to send for the petition

Just ask what is CSC? I read here that other petitioners send their petition to CSC because there is less backlog compared to Texas Service Center.

When we checked to where to send our petition on uscis site only post the TSC address. Is there a choice where you can send it?

The TSC and CSC are both only service centers. The address you filed your I-129f is [or should be] the Texas lockbox which is not the same as the TSC. From the lockbox, they are forwarded to a service center, which is dependent on the state where your petitioner resides.

You can check out this thread for info on which states go to which service center: http://www.visajourn...1-be-processed/

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApplying for K1 Visa While Living Abroad?

Thanks everyone for the response! I think autocorrect might have ruined my question, sorry! I wanted to ask whether it would be easier to go through the process while being in my home country of the UK or than in the Netherlands where I currently live and work. Thanks again to everyone for your help!

I don't think the difference in processing between UK and Netherlands would be significant during the embassy stage. You can continue living in Netherlands while the I-129f is in progress. What you can do for now is probably check out the K1 visa requirements/ instructions in the Netherlands and see if you can readily have those documents by interview time, but this is still a long way down the road. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApplying for K1 Visa While Living Abroad?

Hi everyone!

I'm British but currently living and working in the Netherlands and hoping to apply for a K1 visa together with my fiance (the US citizen) soon. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience of going through the process while living in a foreign country. Would it be a lot easier or faster if I were to do everything while living in the USA or should it not make too much of a difference?

Thanks so much in advance!

Hi there! Welcome to the forum! :)

Your US citizen fiance has to initially file for the I-129f petition in US. Once approved you can apply for K1 visa at the US embassy of the country where you currently [and legally] reside, which is Netherlands. This can't be done inside US.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about 1-134 Affidavit of Support!

My Fiancee sent me his I-134, W2 etc. that i need for my interview in US embassy here in the Pihilippines, but now he got his new job. My question is, do we need to sent papers from his new job and not from his previous one? We are worried to because maybe it will be questionable in consulate since he is new from his work and he don't have a lot of information that he can give.

The petitioner's new job is rarely asked. Normally during the interview, if you give the proper supporting docs (most recent 1040 + W2 or 1099) with an originally signed I-134, and the total income is well above the poverty guidelines, the CO won't be asking about his job.

But it would definitely be better if your fiance sends you an employment certificate from his new job and recent pay stubs, just in case. Again, this is rare, but it's always better to be well-prepared.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about passport copy (split topic)

Not sure if anyone is going to read this as it is an 'older' post. But I need some help here!!

What does 'ALL' pages of the US Citizens' passport refer to? Even the pages without stamps that are empty???

We are gathering everything for the I129-F original submission and as my US fiancee's birth certificate copy is very hard to read we figured we would send in copies of his US passport instead.

The guide states as following (http://www.visajourn...content/k1guide):

11. Copy of the Birth certificate (front and back) for the US Citizen or a copy of ALL pages of the US Citizen's passport issued with a validity of at least 5 years or a copy of the US Citizen's naturalization certificate (front and back). This is used to establish citizenship.

So do they want us to copy ALL pages including the empty ones and the front/back of the passport??

Any answer is appreciated  :) THANKS!

Yes, exactly what it means, ALL pages. When in doubt, you can also refer to the actual I-129f instructions: http://www.uscis.gov...i-129finstr.pdf

-See Page 4

By the way, you might want to start a new topic next time to get more answers.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHelp: W8/income tax

What is their based to not to ask for the employment letter then?

If the petitioner meets (better if well and above) 125% of the poverty guidelines, they will not look for other I-134 supporting docs.

But if they find a hint that the petitioner is not consistent with his total income or new in his job (or probably in a contractual position based from his 1040), they may ask for the recent paystubs and employment cert.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHelp: W8/income tax

Did you mean W2 + 1040/Tax transcript?

I think that's what she meant too. :)

How many does my fiance need to prepare for the following:

w8
Income tax return
Paystubs

And all are photocopies only right?

Thanks in advance :)

Ask your fiance to send you the most recent tax return (1040) + W2. At US Embassy in Manila, the paystubs and/or the employment certificate are rarely asked especially if the petitioner is well above the poverty guidelines. But if your fiance will be sending them anyways, 3 months of paystubs and an employment cert showing her position would be fine as well.

Yes, photocopies or scanned print-outs are acceptable.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 & supporting documents; number of copies?

I seem to remember something about needing to submit 2 sets of the I-134 and supporting documents, but for the life of me I do not seem to be able to find where I believe I saw this information.  Would some one confirm this, or am I not remembering correctly?

At US Embassy in Manila, only 1 copy of each (originally signed I-134 and most return 1040 +W2) is asked during the embassy interview, provided the petitioner meets the 125% of the poverty guidelines, of course. :)

What you have probably read is to have an extra copy of the signed I-134, as you will be mailing it to your fiancee.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI have never been in the US before (applying for Visa K1)

Hello there, we are new to this process and we want to apply for the Visa K1. My concern is that I've never been in the US ever before, not even outside of Argentina (my homeland) would it be a red flag when we present the Form I-129F? we've been 4 years together and she came to my country twice already. Thanks in advance.

Definitely not a red flag, as long as you both are legally free to marry upon filing the I-129f.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNo copy of I-129F

Hi, my fiancé and I filed for the k1 visa about 5 1/2 month ago. We are now waiting for our RFE, cause we forgot to sent a couple of things.
I'm also slowly preparing everything I will need for my interview, and I read that I will need a copy of the I-129F.
The problem is, my fiancé didn't make a copy of it, will that be a big issue?

Thanks so much in advance!

Nothing really to sweat about. They embassy rarely asks (if not at all) for anything from the submitted files on the I-129f packet. What is more critical is knowing the information submitted with it, like for example, consistently remembering details of how you guys initially met (Item 34a of the I-129f form).

Might be a good idea to check out the consulate reviews for what are typically asked for during an embassy interview: http://www.visajourn...&cty=&dfilter=5

-You can also narrow the search by choosing the topic (Ex. K1) on the upper right part of the page.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat size were the 'passport style' pictures you and your fiance submitted with your K1 visa application? (form G-325A)

I have taken one that is 2 inches by 2inches (51 x 51 mm), will this get rejected? Does it just need to be the smaller, usual passport size?

(45 millimetres ( mm ) high by 35mm)

Here is the site I was using for guidance but I found it a little confusing :/ http://travel.state....ral/photos.html

...and yes we are trying to do the visa forms ourselves :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Your passport picture size is correct. It's indeed 2" x 2" : http://travel.state....n-template.html

i sent in like 3 or 4 sheets in 2004 of the same for each petitioner and beneficiary.

Only 1 G-325a each from the beneficiary and petitioner is required with the I-129f.

Make sure as well that you guys have the current forms from the uscis site.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresARN Change? K-1

Hey everyone,

Ive noticed on a lot of timelines that most people received their ARN change shortly after their NOA 1, We recevied out NOA 1 July 7th and haven't heard anything since, especially nothing regarding my fiances ARN change. Is this common? Can anyone explain why? I'm curious as to why we havent received ours yet :( does this possibly mean a RFE is coming our way? Help?!

Thanks in advance!

Nothing to worry about. You will surely get the Alien Registration Number for your fiance on your NOA2. The ARN information won't have any significance at this point and not getting it soon doesn't necessarily mean you'll get an RFE.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 Visa Processing

Hi,

So, I am about to file a Fiance visa, and I am probably going to go through a paralegal to get the paperwork done properly, what do you guys think of this? The average price they're charging is from $250-300. Thoughts? Or can this process be done myself and I should do it myself?

Check out the K1 guides:

http://www.visajourn...content/k1guide

http://www.visajourn.../content/k1tips

There are also example forms here for reference: http://www.visajourn...ontent/examples

Take some time to read too on the actual form instructions from the uscis.gov site [I-129f and G-325a]. If you think you can fill-out the forms on your own and follow the instructions, then getting a paralegal or lawyer is not necessary. Believe it or not, most folks encounter more issues or delay while dealing with lawyers [like yours truly]. From our experience, they asked us to fill-out the forms on our own anyways and provided a checklist on what we needed to provide with the petition. We ended up getting a RFE (Request for evidence) because they never submitted some of the papers we gave them.

In the end, of course, it's really your call.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInterview Fee question

Good-afternoon, a question about the interview fee.  I am seeing a lot of information that is stating that for the interview we have to pay a visa application fee with nothing being stated about an interview fee.  Are these one and the same?  I know that when I submitted the application to USCIS that I had to pay the visa app fee, now do we have to pay that same fee again or is the interview fee a different amount?  I am just a bit confused and just want to make sure I have all the correct information.  Thank you for the help.

The interview fee you are referring to is the visa application fee (current cost: $240). This is indeed different from the $340 petition fee which you initially paid in the I-129f petition as noted by A&B above.

For Manila, here's the payment instructions and current PH peso equivalent chart: http://ustraveldocs....visafeeinfo.asp

Just a heads up, there is also the medical fee ($223): http://www.slec.ph/u...ml#medical-fees

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan we send our K-1 packet in form of a binder?

My fiancé and I assembled all the papers in correct order, and the cover letter all states where the respective papers are. The proof of having met was in a form of a scrapbook that we just put in on of the tabs in the binder. Will we be in trouble if we send it this way?

Anything stapled or bound by any means will have to be disassembled. You can use paperclips to keep them intact or simply slide the papers in an envelope.

Note from uscis site related to your concern: Do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled

I just had a quick question about the I-129F packet. So your alien spouse is responsible for sending you a passport photo and G-325A filled out signed and dated?

Is there anything else I'm missing? Thanks!

The beneficiary should also include a signed Letter of Intent to Marry, on top of the G-325a and passport photos.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSocial Security Card after arriving

I´m trying to prepare for the future and i found the following info:

If you requested an SSN card as part of your visa application, U.S. Department of State (DoS), Form DS 230, ?Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration? or the electronic Form DS 260, ?Immigrant Visa Electronic Application?, DoS and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will share with us the information needed to issue you an SSN card. Therefore, you do not need to fill out a special application or go to a Social Security office to get an SSN.

We will assign you an SSN and issue you a Social Security card after you arrive in the United States. If you already have an SSN, we will issue you a replacement SSN card. We will mail your SSN card to the U.S. mailing address where the Department of Homeland Security will send your Permanent Resident Card. You should receive your Social Security card within 3 weeks after you arrive.

Now my question, can i get married even if my fiancee does not have a SS card?

That info is for immigrant visa holders and not applicable to K1s. Your fiance has to apply personally for the SSN.

SSN guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn

Yes, you can get married even without the SS card. Although, they put that as a requirement in their website, you can inform the county clerk that your other half doesn't have one.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresquestion about the A# on the NOA2 mail

I just received a physical K-1 NOA2 mail from USCIS and noticed that there is a 9-digit A# next to my name. I think this A# stands for Alien Registration #. I became a US citizen 8.5 years ago and the officials on the oath ceremony confiscated everyone?s green card. I no longer remember my green card # anymore after 8.5 years. Does anyone know if this A# next to my name is my then green card # (a.k.a then Alien Registration #)?

Just checking, where is the A# exactly located on the NOA2 sheet? How many A#s do you see?

Is it on top of the beneficiary's name? Like here: http://www.visajourn...F-NOAs/NOA2.jpg

- If so, that is the A# of your fiance, not yours.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCopies of I-129F package

That's the circumstances of meeting, correct? So in the past there have been people who were asked how they met the USC and they compared that to the written statement to check for inconsistencies? Glad I copied everything (3 times lol) and saved it on my computer so we can be sure to go exactly from what we wrote! haha

Nice to see ya, sweets :D

Hey Meghan! Nice to see you here again! :) Yes, that's right. The details of how you two met is one of the most typically asked questions in an embassy interview. So it's always better to keep that info handy, especially in case one is a little forgetful or got a little nervous during the interview. :D

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCopies of I-129F package

I forgot to make a copy of my I-129F package that I submitted to the UCIS. I included some original copies of photographs and visa slips as part of my package. Will the original package be sent to the embassy after NOA2 and will I potentially be asked for furnish a copy of the package i sent it originally? Can I request a copy from UCIS if one is needed for the interview?

Having a copy of the entire I-129f package is just a recommendation and definitely a good idea but NOT a requirement. The whole I-129f [unless they discard some unnecessary submitted evidence] will be forwarded to the consulate of your fiance.

IMO, the most important part of the I-129f which can be critical for your fiance's interview is your answer on Part 2, Item 34.a of the I-129f form itself. Some consulates do try catch for any inconsistency from the written details of your initial meeting and the beneficiary's response. I guess this can be easily remedied if you saved your filled-out I-129f on your PC?

For the rest of the I-129f package, a cover letter or checklist of what you have submitted would also help so your fiance will have an idea of the information the embassy has their hands on.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDated G325A Form

Agreed with Zedayn and iammrsregi. 5-6" is way too much. Remember: Quality over quantity. What the uscis wants to see is that you guys are in a genuine and loving relationship, and not that you guys talk a lot or everyday since you two met. Also, these conversations are only secondary evidences and won't be so crucial until the embassy stage. Choose wisely between your modes of communication. In our case, we only chose exchanges on special occasions like Christmas, Valentine's, Anniversary and those with our travel plans. Total of 30-40 pages for a course of 4 years relationship.

In putting the package together, we only used paperclips to bind the papers, and slid everything in an envelope.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshow to attach pictures to I-129F packet

I still have some boarding pass.. would airline itineary work ? I printed those out as well... I will have her photo copy her passport stamps showing entry to USA.

and My passport also have entry to her country.

Thanks. for info..

Airline itineraries are not sure proof that one actually took the flight, but it can help in detailing your proofs of meetings. Personally, if you have several meetings within the past 2 years, I would make a separate cover letter for these evidences and list them similarly as follows:

1. First trip at Location 1

- Petitioner's passport stamp

- Petitioner's boarding pass and flight itinerary

- Petitioner's hotel booking confirmation

- Pictures at Location 1.

2. Second trip at Location 2

- Beneficiary's visa to enter Location 2

- Beneficiary's passport stamp

- etc ...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshow to attach pictures to I-129F packet

so basically you labeled the pic with a sticky ? on back of picture of front ? sorry for asking so detailed lol...

these pics and document of us having ongoing relationship like... chat logs, imessage print outs, emails ,  will all go behind the  I-129F packet correct ?  do I need a cover lettter for this part ?

with title "document and proof of ongoing relationship ' ?

thanks.

We wrote the "date and place" where the picture was taken at the back of the pictures using a regular ballpoint pen, so they won't smear. Some folks simply print them out to annotate the details of the pictures too.

Yes, it's advisable to place all these evidences behind the I-129f form and also include a cover letter for all the contents of your I-129f  package. By the way, these "chat logs, emails, etc" are only secondary evidences. The more important stuff that you guys should definitely include are proofs of meeting within the last 2 years, such as passport stamps and boarding passes.

How do we attach proof with pics to the I-129F packet ?

I ask because the pictures are like 4"x6"  and I have about 20 or should we add more or less  ?

do we attach the pics to a 8x11 paper ? and also write on the paper where the pic was taken from ? or which one is preferred ?

Thanks.

You can either put all the pictures in a plastic sleeve or glue them in a paper. Both are accepted. In our case, we placed our labeled pictures in a ziploc. :)

This may be a silly newbie question but it seems that most of the K-1 visa people had their first meeting in a foreign country. Can your first meeting take place here in the US? Originally we were going to just meet in the Philippines in January but I came into some extra money from the sale of a car and am paying for her to come here for two months. Can we file with this meeting or should we wait to file when I go this January?

Initial meeting can be anywhere. You guys just need to provide proof of meeting in at least once within 2 years before filing the I-129f. If she's coming over to US, do include her US visa, passport stamp and boarding pass to document this meeting.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPreparing for the k-1 visa - How long?

Hello everyone  :luv:  Hope you are all great!

I just got back from a trip to see my "boyfriend", I'm a british citizen and he is a US citizen stationed in Washington. The day before I was due to leave he proposed!! Was the sweetest thing ever and took me completely by surprise  (L) Now I'm back in the UK :( and we're starting up on k1 paperwork. I have filled out my G-325A and preparing to send it to him with copies of my flight tickets, boarding passes, pictures I have of us ect . Obviously as he's still filling out his part lol we haven't filed as of yet but once filed ,can anyone give me an idea roughly how long it takes to come through? I understand with him being in the navy and having some sort of security clearance it may take a little longer but generally how long does it take? Also the interview how does that work? Do I have to fly over there for it? As we we're hoping once the visa comes through I will fly out for our wedding then obviously stay for aos. We are hoping for a December wedding if all is well with the visa, we can't arrange anything until my fiance finds out when exactly he can have leave from the navy as we will be going to his hometown for the wedding so his family can attend, so if someone could give me an idea that would be wonderful!

When you mail out your G-325a, do include a signed "Letter of Intent to Marry" and 2 passport-type photos. More helpful resource when you click on "Guides" and "Example forms" at the blue header atop any VJ page.

As for the time frame, Christeen is correct. Considering there won't be any major medical or background check issues, it can take some time in the range she mentioned.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat does Alien Number mean in the G325a form?

I think it's nothing but I'm not sure.

What exactly is this number?

The Alien number is the registration number assigned by USCIS to applicants.

If you are just about to file the I-129f:

- For the beneficiary's G-325a: you can leave that blank.

- For the petitioner: Unless you're a naturalized US citizen, you can also leave it blank.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLetter of intent to marry

We are submitting our petition, us citizen lives in CT, what service center are we sending it to? Where do we find this information?

Hi there. All I-129f petitions should be mailed to the Dallas TX lockbox, and NOT to any service center. From the lockbox, it will then be assigned to the appropriate service center.
