[quotes from USCIS's page linked above] Generally, members of the U.S. armed forces who serve honorably for any period of time (even 1 day) during specifically designated periods of hostilities. Also... Have served honorably in active-duty status, or as a member of the Selected Reserve of the Ready Reserve, for any amount of time during a designated period of hostilities and, if separated from the U.S. armed forces, have been separated honorably Have been lawfully admitted as a permanent resident at any time after enlistment or induction, OR have been physically present in the United States or certain territories at the time of enlistment or induction (regardless of whether the applicant was admitted as a permanent resident) So by my understanding of the law, as written, anyone who enlists today could apply for accelerated naturalization as early as the day after tomorrow. I agree with you 100% that the reason this section of law was created was to reward those who served (note the past tense) and may have died while in service. Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion	Removing conditions and naturalization (loophole?)	Hello all! I've posted this question also under the naturalization section of the forum. In a nutshell... I've been married less than 2 years, my AOS interview is this coming 11/25 and there's a 99.99% chance I will have to remove conditions within 2 years of my approval date. HOWEVER... I will be enlisting in the Air Force within days of receiving my green card. Those who enlist and serve honorably are eligible for naturalization after just one day of serving. Is it possible to get naturalized before the 2-year conditional window expires??? I got my info from here... Link to INA329 Link to USCIS's explanation of "Naturalization through Qualifying Service during Periods of Hostilities" Sec. 329. [8 U.S.C. 1440] (a) Any person who, while an alien or a noncitizen national of the United States, has served honorably as a member of the Selected Reserve of the Ready Reserve or in an active-duty status in the military, air, or naval forces of the United States [...] may be naturalized as provided in this section if (1) at the time of enlistment, reenlistment, extension of enlistment, or induction such person shall have been in the United States, the Canal Zone, America Samoa, or Swains Island, or on board a public vessel owned or operated by the United States for noncommercial service, whether or not he has been lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence, or (2) at any time subsequent to enlistment or induction such person shall have been lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence. There are footnotes on that section of law but nothing regarding the 1 day/1 year or whether conditional/non-conditional makes any difference. Two things that catch my attention: "whether or not he has been lawfully admitted to the US for permanent residence, or at any time subsequent to enlistment [...] such person shall have been lawfully admitted to the US for permanent residence" Has anybody looked into this? US Embassy and Consulate Discussion	Package 3 & 4 Question	Hi guys & gals, I've got a quick question........Do the U.S Consulates in India (Chennai to be specific) mail out a Packet 3 (Instruction Packet) to the fiancee after they received the files from NVC and an interview appointment letter with it, or will the appointment letter only arrive with Packet 4? The reason why I ask is because I have heard that they assign an interview date after they get the files from the NVC....and i've also heard that they only assign the interview date after the Packet 3 is mailed back by the fiancee to the consulate. Second question, i've read on vj that you have to submit all documentation to a vfs (Visa Facilitation Service) 10-15 days before the scheduled interview, but i've also heard that you have to bring documentation with you to the interview, so which is the appropriate and/or the correct method? US Citizenship General Discussion	N-400 NOVEMBER 2011 FILERS	It seems it is skipped for some applicants if they already had fingerprints taken for the removal of conditions recently. Is that your case? Also, I finally got the receipt from the USCIS by email, and it says my case has been transferred to the "National Benefits Center". Is that what happens to all of you? I am a late October filer, and I too was waiting for the biometrics letter, but yesterday got an email notifying that i've been placed in line for interview scheduling . I know this is a silly question - but why isn't it possible for the passport to be provided after the Naturalization ceremony? Every single new citizen will want a passport yet they are forced to send their valuable Naturalization certificate through the post almost as soon as they receive it to the _same agency_ that has just approved them to be Naturalized with a form that repeats all the information that they already have from naturalization. Is it just one of those things that has always been like that? Interview lasted 20 minutes, and passed Was told to come back @ 11:45AM for the oath ceremony, ceremony began @ 12:30PM and lasted about half-hour. Glad it's over, finally! US Citizenship General Discussion	N-400 OCTOBER 2011 FILERS	Got a letter stating fingerprints expired and need to get another one taken within 90 days...will be heading out to get a new set taken tomorrow or the day after. Hopefully, things will get going after this! But here is my question: I thought fingerprints were good for 15 months, so they are really not expiring till April 30th 2012 (Taken on Jan 30 2011 for ROC), but even if it the fingerprints were only good for 12 months, then they had already expired January 30th 2012, so USCIS waited 2 months to tell me that my fingerprints had expired???	jb_vj	Male	India	2012-03-18 11:16:00

I am curious to know that that i havent so far receive my biometrics yet but i got a letter from uscis that i am schedule in line for my interview. My question is will i go for interview without biometrics. Kindly need your consent on this. Some people, like myself, had biometrics completed within the last 15 months for removal-of-conditons, therefore got put in line for interview scheduling.
