TB - still thinking about you.

Also, I just looked at Aly and Debz's spreadsheet. 4 CSC July filers pending; Audrey, CBR, Sunshine girl and Thee_Rak. I'm hoping this will be your week. By rights it should be.

Also, what happened to DKM who was very active on the board at one point?

I wish they would clear up the pending July/Aug cases before they jump to October though. No disrespect to later filers it just seems unfair that there are still so many pending approval in the interim.

I'm pretty sure RFE's show up late in the game. Basically your petition sits in a box for 4-6+ months, then it winds up on an adjudicators desk. Only then does anyone look at it close enough to see that you forgot to write "N/A" instead of "NONE" or forgot to dot an i or cross a t.

CSC appear to have slowed down again. I suppose 2 or 3 petitions a day is better than none. Does anyone think it's possible to get RFE'd after six months? I notice that people usually get RFE's pretty early on.

It's interesting that your Latino acts and reacts as he does. Perhaps the "macho" culture is moderating. Lord knows that the women down there are past ready for that. I observed two other married couples down there, and both men were terrible Machos -- I was appalled at how they treated their lovely wives.

And, since we already have The Prettiest, why can't we also have The Babbliest? Si, man?

Oh, maybe it's because he grew up surrounded by women. His dad left when he was about 7 so two sisters and a very independent mother probably helped him out that way. TBone man, I promised my SO I wouldn't check VJ today, because it's freaking me out terribly and he reminded me that 'a watched pot never boils' and all that, but I suddenly recalled that you would probably be posting an update.

I don't have very much to say (for once) because I think you mostly have it nailed. What I can contribute is this; My SO is a Latino male and I can confirm that for him 'deciding on a mate' has definitely been about evaluating how the two of us have interacted in terms of mutual respect/care/love etc. Especially how I interact with his family. Family is ultra important in his thinking and I am certain that if I didn't get along with his family I'd have been history by now. Not sure the same would be true for me. I know these are factors that everyone considers in the course of a relationship but it is somehow more complex and defined with him so I understand what you're saying about her needs in the relationship.

I have enjoyed reading many of your comments on VJ because they are brimming with respect, empathy and care for others - as well as being incredibly humourous and positive despite what you've been experiencing lately. I get the impression man that you are a truly wonderful human being who does meet all those needs for her. It is tough conducting a relationship purely by email/telephone, but I am sure, in time, with the grace and patience you have shown so far, that she will feel more confident that you are the one. I totally agree with Mox. And I also agree that there are a lot of issues that are more important than the USCIS that need to take the front line. If you think about it, if we weren't going through this situation, would we give a darn about the immigration process?

QUOTE
In seriousness, nothing's going to happen at USCIS in this last year. Fixing immigration isn't a top priority for this administration so it's going to be cruise control until the next administration. We can only hope the next President makes USCIS a priority and urges congress to approve a budget that helps to make the changes that are so sorely needed. Although to be quite frank, USCIS is much lower on my list of personal wants. I'd rather see poverty, corporate welfare, the environment, and a few other issues take front row.

Agreed, these are priorities. My issue with this is that USCIS raised the fees by an average of 66% according to the Washington Post article. If they are to remain financially independent and therefore exempt from political accountability then throw the work out to private tender and make them accountable.

QUOTE
To be fair, NVC doesn't have near the amount of work to do on a file that USCIS does. NVC are basically a clearing house, whereas USCIS do actually put a lot of work into the individual file.

OK, but they still do name checks on the beneficiary and the FBI don't seem to be slowing them down much (in most cases anyway).

I don't buy it. Hispanics are voting Republican in droves these days, and many of the Republican candidates are counting on the Hispanic vote. Nothing would lose this election faster for the Republicans than if it were to come out that they were blocking immigration efforts.

I think the problem is much simpler to identify: Incompetence. Emilio Gonzalez is a Bush appointee, and like many Bush appointees, seems to have no idea how to do his job. Congress *wants* to throw money at USCIS, but Gonzalez has turned it down. He does not believe there is a resource problem and has placed the blame fully on the FBI. (the FBI, meanwhile, are going "huh? We have an average 2-week turn-around!")

I'm not so sure about your first point, however, I'm not sure so I'm not saying you're wrong tongue.gif.

I had wondered myself what motivation Gonzalez had for refusing financial aid. It is a very compelling argument that maybe Gonzalez has an ulterior motive driven by politics rather than being thoroughly incompetent. He accepted there were issues, blamed the FBI but never suggested a resolution other than that people would have to stomach the delays. Why on earth would anyone refuse financial help when the service has faced the largest volume of petitions in their history and are still offering a p!$$ poor service despite the revenue increase in the latter part of the year?

I am still amazed that NVC, who handle every single immigrant visa petition, can turn them around in 2 to 4 weeks on average. There's summat wrong somewhere.

Here's a different wrinkle: There seems to be no vehicle for reporting valid timelines when relationships have been abandoned. Read this from the fiancee:

>HELLO:
>
>Tonight I will be traveling to Cuenca, what about if we talk on tuesday night..... We need to talk about our relashionship.......ok.
>
>Take care
>Cristina

It is not known what this "talk" will entail, but I suspect that she will be dumping me in favor of her new business or for other reasons. I don't plan to push her too hard unless there's an opening for things to get better, but the question for me is, if she says "I need more time" (to decide, to build her business, whatever), to decide for myself whether things can be salvaged and/or how long I intend to continue to let my feelings be disrespected and disregarded. (She did NOT react to the news of our papers heading to the consulate as a loving other-half would/should.)

The above is a circular way of asking this: Because there is precious little information on Ecuador timelines, and because the papers have made much (most?) of their route through the immigration system, is there a mechanism via which "partial" processing information/timelines from abandoned relationships can remain on VJ for the help of others, and to build on existing information that may be sparse? Or is this a Cap'n Ewok question?

Any and all responses to the direct question and to the situation will be appreciated.

Hey Tbone. I'm sure it must be a very worrying time for you right now. It's probably not helpful to jump the gun and assume that she is about to end the relationship but what might be helpful is to consider your responses before tomorrow night.

If she needs more time - you can give it. She does know I assume that there is a six month period following the issue of a visa in which she can find the time to tidy up all the loose ends. There is a possibility that she is just not ready *right now* and an impending interview will only serve to complicate things for her. These things can be worked out but you do need an open and honest conversation about that. That way you could avoid the feelings of being disregarded.

I really don't know what to advise if things are coming to an end - but I do feel that is something we shouldn't be assuming at this stage.

I think Cap'n Ewok could answer your final question. Good of you to be thinking of others going through this process.

Good luck smile.gif
