Canada	EI questions	I have been reading all the posts here...when you say "EI" do you mean UI unemployment insurance benefits??? the reason why I am asking...I will be leaving a 25 yr job...can I still collect this benefit...living outside Canada? after paying into this fund for so many years....wouldn't this be a beautiful thing! Denise You can apply for EI (was called UI). The pinned thread should still have links to the forms and questions on the EI website, or check them out on servicecanada.gc.ca. As a K3 you will not receive any $ until you send them a copy of your EAD or GC, but you would still file for EI before receiving either of those. Do not wait to apply for EI until you receive them. As for the checks, I get them directly deposited to my Canadian bank account that I left open just for this reason. I then take the money out here at an ATM. Because my bank account is in my maiden name, my EI file is also in my maiden name. Hi Carrie....thanks for the info! I hope to get my K3 Visa on the 22 Jan and then make my entry into the the USA change my status and apply or an EAD to get the ball rolling and then officailly move from Canada at the end of March! so by the time this happens I should have my EAD approval to apply for EI! Canada	POINT OF ENTRY (POE) WHAT HAPPENS???	thanks for your info....just have to say..love you Tim Hortons Pic! How Canuck EH! Denise Its pretty painless,at least it was for myself crossing with a cr-1 in MAine. Drove up to the POE officer, stated I was there to activate my cr-1. He directed me to park, and go inside. Went inside, Customs guy was by himself, so I handed him the contents of my truck. He casually looked over it and said go see Immigration. Went to immigration they took the brown envelope, took more fingerprints, stamped my passport, asked soem basic questions. Everyone was very laid back. Once Immigration was happy, I went back to Customs guy who said al looked great, never did look inside my Uhual truck, and off I went. Took around 30 minutes, Iwas the only person in there!! Immigration workers were a bit confused at first as they both seemed new on the job and had to phone someone for assistance. The typical questions...when did we meet?, where did we meet?, when did we start dating, how often did we visit each other?, When did we get married? What type of work does my husband do?, how much money does my husband make a year approximately?, What my profession is?, do I plan on working?, when was I moving to the US. Unfortunately about the temporary EAD, they're only given to K1's and only if JFK is the POE, which is hard to do coming from most Canadian airports where you go through American customs at the airport before you depart. Canada	MY K3 VISA APPROVED TODAY IN RAINY VANCOUVER!!!	HI GANG! I AM BACK HOME AND PLEASED TO SAY I NOW HAVE MY K3 VISA ENTRY IN PASSPORT!!! AND IN HAND!!! HALLIE-LOOO-YA!!!! POP THE CORK! AND START POURING THE CHAMPAGNE!!! YAHOOOOO!!!!! WHAT A MISERABLE RAINY DAY IN VANCOUVER...THE PROCESS WAS PRETTY STRAIGHT FORWARD! A WORD OF CAUTION...DON'T TAKE A CEL PHONE,,, I GOT STOPPED RIGHT FROM THE START WITH SECURITY CHECK! I HAD TO RUN ACROSS THE STREET AND HAVE THE MAN WHO HAS A COPYING AND PASSPORT PHOTO STORE, HOLD MY CEL PHONE UNTIL MY APPT. WAS OVER! UPON BEING CLEARED FOR SECURITY CHECK AND PROCEEDED UP THE STAIRS AND ESCORTED IN THE ELEVATOR TO THE APPROPRIATE FLOOR. I WAS AMAZED AT THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THERE WAITING FOR THEIR BUSINESS TO BE DONE. I WAS ESCORTED TO AN AREA THAT HELD 5 SEATS AND 5 WINDOWS. I MET 2 K1 APPLICANTS AND THEN THERE WAS MYSELF FOR K3. WE WERE INDIVIDUALLY CALLED TO THE WINDOW, DISPLAYED OUR REQUESTED DOCUMENTS, THEN HAD TO GO TO ANOTHER AREA PAY THE FEE, SENT BACK TO THE ORIGNAL SEATING AREA, THEN ASKED TO DO INDEX FINGER PRINTS. IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT OUR INTERVIEWS WOULD BE DELAYED FOR 30 MINUTES. WE GOT CHATTING AND IT WAS KEWL TO FIND OUT, THEY WERE ALSO FELLOW MEMBERS OF VJ! 2 OF US WERE GRANTED OUR VISAS. I RETURNED AT 2 PM AGAIN GOING THRU THE SAME SECURITY CHECK. MY PASSPORT WAS RETURNED WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL VISA! IT WAS ACCOMPANIED BY A SEALED ENVELOPE WITH MY DOCUENTATION FOR MY 'POE'. I HAVE DECIDED TO FLY FROM VANCOUVER ON FRIDAY THE 26 JANUARY TO U>S> AND WILL DEAL WITH MY POE ACTIVATION AT VANCOUVER AIRPORT. ONE INTERESTING THING I FOUND OUT...SOME POE'S MAY BE ABLE TO AUTHORIZE "EAD" AT THE SAME TIME AS ACTIVATING I-94. I WILL HAVE MY APPLICATION AND FEES IN HAND TO SEE IF THIS CAN BE DONE AT THE SAME TIME AT VANCOUVER AIRPORT! WILL KEEP YOU POSTED! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE ELSE THIS WEEK! CHEERS! Canada	favorite things you'll miss from canada	adding my 2 cents worth! well I have to say...everytime I drive to the USA my American Husband has me bring down 12 packs of orange & grape "crush" pop (soda as they say). they seem to have discontinued Crush brand in Oregon and Washington State. Oh yes, and educating/introducing americans to "Nanaimo Bar" and 5.5% beer! In return I like to bring back good "cheap" wine. I can usually save $8-$10 a bottle from the USA. No tax in Oregon! Yahoo! I received my K3 Visa after my interview the same day! Denise That is awesome!! Congrats!! I can't wait for the day I can hand over that envelope to them! I still have a little resentment for Customs at Edmonton Airport for denying me back in September, but I do admit they all were really nice people. After your Interview, when did you get your Visa? Canada	MY POE AT VANCOUVER AIRPORT AND EAD	Hi Gang Just wanted to update the Vancouver Airport POE experience! I arrived at the Vancouver Airport at 2 PM ( a quiet time of day @ US Immigration) no waiting involved. I presented my envelope and Passport. I was asked to go fill out the I-94 form. Very Simple short form. Went back to Immigration counter and was sent thru the Green doors...3 minute wait. Immigration officer asked for my I-94 form and opened envelope. Stamped my passport then stapled the lower half of my I-94 next to my K3 Visa in passport...then sent me on my way! BEAUTIFUL!!! Funny thing..I was told I would have to have my finger prints and photo taken at this time..it never happened and I was not charged a fee for this procedure. I also asked if they could issue me my EAD... (US Consulate in Vancouver lead me to believe this could be done) apparently not! (Riblet you are right) I got to my new home in Oregon and immediately mailed off my EAD to the Chicago PO Box. Once I do my final move to Oregon, I will deal with AOS when I have more time on my hands! My K3 visa allows me to go in and out the USA as often as I wish, with no restriction! BEAUTIFUL!!! The reason I decided to have my EAD submitted now...so when I leave my job at the end of March in Canada I will have my EAD in place so I can collect Canadian EI. BEAUTIFUL!!! so for now ... Canada	REGULATIONS ON MOVING WORLDLY POSESSIONS TO USA	Now that I have my K3 / I-94 in place. I am planning to move my worldly posessions at the end of March. What are the rules and regulations required for moving my "#######" across the border? I am not using a moving company my husband is driving a large truck to BC to move my belongings. THEIR IS AN ''AIRPORTER BUS" THAT LEAVES APPROXIMATELY EVERY 15 OR 20 MINUTES JUST OUTSIDE THE BAGGAGE CAROUSEL ARRIVALS. tHIS BUS WILL TAKE YOU TO DOWNTOWN VANCOUVER. ONE OF THE DROP POINTS IS THE PAN PACIFIC HOTEL JUST A FEW BLOCKS WALK TO THE US CONSULATE. I THINK ITS UNDER $20 EACH WAY. JUST GOOGLE SEARCH ENGINE AND TYPE IN "YVR AIRPORTER" IT SHOULD BRING UP A SCHEDULE AND COSTS. THE TRAVEL TIME CAN BE 30 TO 45 MINUTES. GOOD LUCK! LOL DENISE With Amy's move upon us soon, I've been sifting through the posts about the Temporary EA stamps. Will be driving down from Vancouver crossing in Blaine, WA. I haven't checked to see if we have to take the Uhaul through the truck crossing rather than the peace arch. My real question is if anyone has had their temp EA Stamp issued at the Blaine crossing. I just saw that someone (cdancer?) had called the crossings to see if they would issue the stamp or not. Any leads on where to find those phone numbers?
