CanadaMy Experience changing my Drivers License today..
I have been reading the past posts...all very interesting!!! I do agree its emotional and the sacrifices
we are choosing to take to move to the US to live a life with our spouses. But one thing I find interesting ...it seems the majority of the Canadians immigrating are women! It's easier for us to give up our careers and jobs to move to the US and start all over again! LOL! Whats with that?

CanadaMy Experience changing my Drivers License today..
Hey Misa ...Ditto! and I will keep my BC Drivers Licence and my Oregon Drivers Licence! 2 homes, 2 countries!
best of both worlds!

Well I'm not going to speak for the other Canadians here but the only reason why I'm moving is to be with my husband as it makes more sense for his career to stay there for now. If the marriage ended, I'd come back to Canada in a heartbeat.

Patriotism is all fine and dandy except when it single-handedly dismisses critiques in a STFU kind of way. That doesn't sit well with me.

CanadaMy Experience changing my Drivers License today..
2 months after my husband and I got married and we were still living apart jumping the K3 hoops. I was visiting one
weekend and thought I would go apply for an Oregon Drivers License at the local DMV. Read the book, did the drivers exam on a computer. The fellow next to me was doing his exam also ...but in spanish. We both finished at the same time and then did the eye exam....LOL ..the funny part he had to have an enterpriter help him with the eye exam...sorry but that just struck me as funny! maybe my canadian cents of humour!

The DMV instantly gave me an Oregon Licence (i was impressed). I then asked for my BC License back...and said no I could not have my BC License back because they hole punched it and destroyed it! &*%^ I thought you have
to be joking? I explained I had 2 residences one in Oregon and 1 in BC Canada. His attitude was...since I now
have an Oregon drivers license " I am now an OREGONIAN" ...what the faaa.......

I returned to BC and got another BC Drivers License...fooled him! LOL

CanadaWish me Luck on my BIG Move Saturday!

Well FINALLY...here I am......from date of marriage to Saturday it has taken me
9 months to get to this point! (might have been easier to have a baby...LOL)
Last day on the Job tomorrow. Husband arrives
with truck and car trailer. Good bye party at the local Pub. Saturday morning
load up all my worldly possessions, say good bye to family, head for the ferry and
then the Blaine Border crossing! Now the journey "really begins"

I will report back to the VJ'rs on my border crossing move as I already have K3 and
I94 in hand!

its really sad to say good bye to Vancouver Island! Heaven on earth!

Good luck!! I am also moving on Saturday and I'm pretty nervous..crossing at Sarnia/Port Huron I think (unless someone can tell me that the guys at Detroit are nice!!).

That's really nice that you're having a going-away party...I didn't even think to do that! Have fun!

hope your move went as well as mine!

CanadaReport on my Blaine Border Crossing Move

He asked where I lived, what I did for a living and then made a
comment of the amount of times I had entered the USA and even by ferry

Question about multiple visits when you live in a 'border town' - I know I have to write a list of all the times I've been in the USA - I've made a kazillion day trips across the border & quite a few overnights in the past couple of years from Vancouver, but I have no idea of exact dates because there are SO many. Should I just write down as many dates as I can remember & make some note about living in a border town???

I don't think there is a need to keep track...as the Border Crossing agents have it all listed in their computers under
your name! I was amazed he made this comment...its not like I went every weekend or every 2nd weekend!
I was never denied crossing!

CanadaReport on my Blaine Border Crossing Move
Hi VJer's

Taking my car and my husband with truck and trailer behind me, we arrived at the
Blaine border crossing at 9PM Saturday day night. 20 minute line up wait.
approach the C&I Agent and he ushered us off to the side parking area.
We entered the office. I showed the agent my K3 & I94. I was asked if I had any plants
or food. Any alcohol or tabacco. Hey I ain't leaving with out some good ol 5%
Canadian Beer! LOL!. He asked where I lived, what I did for a living and then made a
comment of the amount of times I had entered the USA and even by ferry?... I just said
well when you live on an island...the only mode is flying or ferry!
I gave my itemized list of my worldy possessions!
He asked for my husband's keys and took my list and away he went!
If you VJers could only see this 24 foot long, 9 feet high trailer! I had it loaded! trust me
nobody wants to have anything to do with it! LOL..(heck it scared me! LOL!!!)
it only took 10 minutes for the agent to return. I am sure he did not want to start
pulling out my boxes and furniture! He called us to the desk and thanked me for
my itemized list and was impressed that I had the serial numbers listed with my
electronic items. And then sent us off!

Oh PS...since my car still had my BC PlateS, I was asked if I was transferring my
car and I said no, as I was returning the car back to BC in a few weeks and leaving
it there to sell.

As you can see it was easy! but having a general itemized list got me thru it efficiently!

So now here I am living in Oregon! no job, no EAD as of yet-going to the Immigration
Office today...to see whats with that! BUT BEST OF ALL!!!! LIVING WITH MY HUSBAND
after a 9 month wait!!!!!

NOW LIFES JOURNEY REALLY STARTS!!!!

hi Misa....hows it going eh!

I have been so busy reorganizing our home, have had not much chance
to get on here! It would have been easier moving into a house that is
empty...

I still have had no biometrics appt as of yet! I have no idea why...
I went to Immigration in Portland and they said ...just wait!
after my 90 days are up then I can get their attention!

I hope to file my AOS by the end of the month!

cheers!

Thanks Denise. I'll do the same as you and whenever I get my EAD or Greencard (some people got their Greencard before their EAD!) I'll send it in.

Did you ever get your EAD biometrics appointment yet?

no Biometrics as of yet...this is soooooo PAINFUL!!! I am waiting with baited breath
for my appt. letter.
I went to immigration 2 days after I got here and they checked my file and no appt
has been made yet! Wednesday will be my 90 days and then I am getting on the
BLOWER! *&%#@*. I am not sure what the stall is...will keep ya posted!

Its a good thing I don't have a job lined up as of yet!

Alrighty, maybe someone can enlighten me. I'm on a K3 so I am not employment authorised until I receive my EAD. I applied for EI a little while ago since I know it's best to get into the system as soon as possible.

I received 2 things in the mail this week:

1. form asking me specific questions about my status in the U.S. and also asking for proof of employment authorisation
2. in a separate mailing I got my first set of cards

I know I can't send back the form until I get my EAD. Or should I send it back saying EAD is pending?

What do I do about the cards? Do I fill them out and send them back but indicating that I was not able to work during that time?

Also, does that mean my benefits only start when I get my EAD or does it go back to the start of my claim when I submit proof of employment authorisation?

Hey Misa

1) I just filled out the form with "EAD Pending "and sent along my NOA1 proof
2) I just signed both cards ticked off the questions on the back and sent my cards in on the required dates.

apparently you have to show your proof of EAD before you can collect any $$$ . So here I wait for my EAD proof.
you have to be able and willing to work! without EAD you are not able to work.

hope this helps!

You K-3's are different.. you actually DO have to wait for the EAD before you can collect EI... Sorry, but NOA's aren't going to cut it for you..

YAH THATS MY PROBLEM...MY EAD IS HOLDING ME UP FROM COLLECTING MY $$$ MY 90 DAYS ARE COMING UP FAST!

Canadacalling USCIS from Canada
I had this same problem last February when I was still living in Canada. I called the local telephone operator
to see if there was anyway to connect to the toll free number. and the answer was NO.
I had to wait to be in the USA physically to place the call. its the only way!

CanadaVancouver Medical Dr. Morgan
my suggestion is... keep your medical for Edmonton...the reason being is the cost! Dr Morgan charges $275 CASH (which I think is too much and yes I paid the price) Check your fees for Edmonton or Calgary! I believe its way cheaper!

hope this helps!

QUOTE (Vin75 @ Sep 27 2007, 05:22 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Does anyone know what days you can go get your medical done?

My wife was thinking about having her medical done even though she's from Edmonton, since Vancouver gives you your results the same day.

CanadaHealth Insurance
expect to pay the eqivalent of a "car payment" per month and definately shop around.
look a what deductable you would have to pay upfront for hospitalization and what % the insurance company
will pay upfront and what additional % you have to pay that the insurance company will not!
its all very interesting...be sure to read the small print...its nutz!!!

Hey,

So I probably will have to pay $$$ for insurance under Oliver's work so I'm looking to see how much insurance would be from an insurance provider like Blue Cross..

Do you guys use any of the companies out there?

Any suggestions?

CDANCER HERE...NOW ITS MY TURN!

I have not been into the Canada Forum as much as I have been working on my AOS
but have return to see whats happening.
I recognized alot of the user names as some of us were going thru this process at the same
time.
Last September with much fustration and countless phone calls on how to find information
on the US Immigration process...I was GOOGLING....and the INTERNET FAIRY brought up
this wonderful FORUM site! THANK YOU GODESS!!! Saved me $2000+ on an Immigration
Lawyer!
Filling out forms and using my brain and asking questions got me where I am today!
oh yes and bucking $$$ up!

First of all my name is Denise and I am born and raised canuck from mid Vancouver Island
(sorry Brad) but to me its heaven on earth! and still think that way...LOL. You can't get me
to trade my ESQUIRES COFFEE for a Timmies or a Starbucks.
My user name: Cdancer ....let me explain, I am not a striper, I don't dance to CD's,
I don't watch dancers....
Sea Dancer was the name of my 26ft boat in my past relationship...and no I did not get the
boat...LOL ! I have no tats just 2 pierced holes in each ear...thats it! Pretty much a clean
canvas!

I have read with much interest how people have met! It seems unanimous most of us all
met on the Internet! How Kewl! Thank God for the Internet we would have never met
and fell in love!
Alot of you met on game sites which is interesting.
My DH and myself met on "E Harmony" we are a testiment that it works! Our friends say
we should do a commercial for E Harmony...LOL
We did the 2 week program with E Harmony and then we were free to exchange phone
numbers and talk. It took us 2 weeks of leaving messages and finally connected by
phone. 2 weeks later we met. I flew to Oregon and he picked me up at the airport!
The first sight of him is still ingrained in my memory. He was so nervous he couldn't
remember where he parked his truck at the airport parking garage. We still talk
about that! We saw each other every 2nd weekend. Thank god for the Goldline
long distance calling card!
We went to Las vegas 10 months later and got married on the sly! Shocked the hell
out of our friends and family!

We had to wait for our official marriage certificate to arrive to start my K3 Visa process.
We lived married life apart for the first 9 months. Which sucked! I stayed working
at my job and continued on until I got my official K3 Visa stamped in my Passport
Had to give my 25 yr job 2 months notice. Here I am now its been almost 7 months
living in Oregon. Happy to be living life with my husband, but missing my friends
and family on Vancouver Island and the fresh sea air. Its a different culture here
in the USA. Some great shopping! NO TAX in Oregon. Its tuff to find a real nice Pub
to sit and have a nice drink, instead in most cases its a scummy tavern! Great Restaurants!
Cheap flights to fly within the USA. Cheaper Gas! You can buy a bottle of wine or
a case of beer at Safeway and for $10 less than you pay in BC. American Cigarettes
stink and they still smoke in public places here...soon to be banned!

But the worse thing I experienced....I flew back to Victoria BC 3 weeks ago and
exchanged $100 USD into CAD and only got $92 BACK!!!! LOL!!!
Keep your Bank account in Canada! I am glad I did!

Thats my story in a NUT SHELL!!!
