Hey blue123, try this recipe: Bhuna Chicken
The only difference that I do is: add more chili powder and also, I buy Shan Masala Varieties to add more delicious flavor.

Thanks MARM

hey Marm dont suppose you have a good recipe for Bhuna??

I guess it is called "bhuna" in Hindi...that is why I had to look it up to make sure it is what I thought it was...in Pakistan it depends on whether it is made with chicken or goat/lamb, and we appropriately call it bhuna huwa chicken or bhuna huwa gosht...
But you need to specify, StinkyMonkey:
Do you mean the one with lamb/goat or chicken?
We Pakistanis tend to cook it a bit spicier than the Indian variety, but I would be excited to share recipes if you would like!

ETA: There is a vegetarian variety too (made with assorted veggies)...post which one you are interested in!

Thanks, didn't think I could buy one there, none of my American friends have one so I just assumed you couldn't get them. I don't know anyone in England who doesn't have one

Pim's might be able to serve as a substitute for Jaffa cakes ... I dunno, as I've never had the latter. They make them in orange and raspberry, and you can find them in just about any supermarket in the U.S. Anyway, I am addicted to them.

This is an awesome thread. I'll be sure to keep Land O Lakes in the fridge for John. As for bread, he loves the King's Hawaiian bread I use for his ham sandwiches, so I don't have to worry about that. And he's got me trained on tea laughing.gif. One of the first things he ever gave me was an electric kettle from Sainsbury's, so we are clear for launch.

I want to bring my kettle but it says only for 220-240v do they work anyway on 110v over there or can you buy them in England to work with 110v.

Gravy granules and thick mint sauce from Tesco/Asda is what I will miss.

United KingdomParental consent from father needed?
QUOTE (English Muffin @ May 26 2009, 01:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
If you can't get consent from the father you can get a court order allowing you to take your son out of the UK. I believe the Embassy will insist on one or the other.

That's the thing, we are already out of the UK.

United KingdomParental consent from father needed?
I was reading an old thread about this but couldn't seem to find info that would apply to my case.

My son is 12 years old, I was never married to his father but his father's name is on his BC.
His father has not been interested in him since he was 2 months old, and has not seen him for over 10 years. We have had no contact with his father in the last 10 years and have no idea of his whereabouts. I moved to Austria 9 years ago with my son it will be impossible to get any letter of consent from him, but under UK law as we were never married he has no parental rights over him.
I read an old post which mentions getting a notarized letter from the father to take him out of the UK to live is a requirement of Embassy in UK, but as we already left the UK 9 years ago would this apply us?
I am reluctant to contact the embassy here in Austria to ask them as it may bring up problems that may not even arise.

Any advice?

Looked it over a few times. No number other then the WAC. I did find a company that might work, http://www.sevenseasworldwide.com . I hope, fingers are crossed. The companies he had found wanted the number when he booked and needed a3-6 weeks advanced notice. Not sure how long it will take for his visa after the interview. My guess from reading the forums is only a few days. But this Seven Seas only needs a few days notice.

Have you checked out regular parcel post? I've looked at so many different ways and finally decided on regular mail it worked out much cheaper.

United Kingdomhow to get the UK Police Certificate when you're not in the UK
QUOTE (emmaline_g @ May 27 2009, 12:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi, hope I'm posting in the correct forum.

I have applied for the K-1 visa for my fiance who is an Albanian citizen. He has lived in the UK long enough that I need to get his police certificate. The problem is there is no record of him in the UK as he was there undocumented, and the application requires proof of residence (for ex., bills, rent agreement, which he doesn't have).

If I am reading the instructions on the application correctly, the "proof of residence" means "where you currently reside" even if it's outside the UK. So if my fiance were to prove that his current residence is Albania with a bank bill and a phone bill (from Albania) that would meet the requirement for the app., right?

The proof of residence is for where he lives now so if he has these from Albania it will be fine.

It also asks for "list of UK residences" for last 5 years. Do you know how they cross-check this? My fiance lived with family members, his name was not on the rent agreement. Would they not be able to produce a certificate because of this?

It won't matter they are just looking for criminal activies on record from that name and address, if none exists they won't be going into detail finding out who else lives there or is on any rent agreement.

Just trying to get some clarification before I mess anything up.
Thanks in advance good.gif

He should be fine. good.gif

We have plenty of time for it to show up now, it is just a matter of getting here by post, whatever method the Home Office is using.

Maybe you need to start pushing again now to find out how they sent the passport, even 2nd class post doesn't usually take this long, but if it doesn't arrive soon maybe it's lost in the post and you can then get an emergency passport from embassy. keeping fingers crossed for you.

If your new to this thread and would like your name added, please send post a message on here with your VJ name, your real name if you would like people to know it, the name of whoever your SO is that you are with in the US(and if they are on VJ they're name on here too)and where in the US you are, by city and state. Also, if both you and your SO are VJ'ers, please state which of you is the UK citizen and which of you is the US citizen. QUOTE (easygoingcouple @ Apr 5 2009, 03:02 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello VJ Members,

Has any of you here have the same issues with NVC?

USCIS approved our I-130 (originally K-3) last March 13,2009 and received hard copy March 16,2009 and our our original approved petition has been sent to NVC. Since then we have no word from NVC regarding our case (NO CASE NUMBER YET) in spite of several phone calls.

However in the approval notice it says..........."please allow 90 days before calling NVC if your beneficiary has not received any correspondence from NVC.........." Should we wait 90 days and see if we get something from them? Well my husband made numerous calls to NVC but we get the same answer.....I still have my I-129F pending with USCIS and we are thinking of pursuing CR-1. Can anybody enlighten us?

What took them so long to give us a case number?....or at least inform us if we are on AP or RFE etc.....

Regards.

I called them everyday the operator told me 90 days. They finally assigned case# after 18 days they assigned my K3 case# after 4 days, I have seen many posts where people have not waited for case# to be assigned and others who have waited and waited but not necessarily in AP.
Hope you get yours soon.

Our lawyer fills everything in for us, he sends us (by email)the completed forms which require signature, I-864 to my husband who prints it off, signs it and returns to him with required documents. DS-230 to me which I print out sign and send to him with all original documents required (I just did that today) Then he organizes and sends the completed packages to NVC.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Questions Regarding the Affidavit of Support & NVC Process
QUOTE (enraptured @ May 5 2009, 01:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi all,

So I just got off the phone with my congressman's representative regarding what I needed to do after I get an approval re my I-130. I am hoping to get this soon, if anything hopefully within the next 2 months...

So anyways, at this point I am going to see my husband in Syria and want to know what I need to do now before then (I leave Sunday).

What would I need to leave here re getting all this paperwork back to NVC?

The representative told me that proof of our relationship may or may not be requested at this stage...

She explained that I'd first need to get a letter called Choice of Agent, and send it back. I would need originals of my birth certificate, divorce paperwork, his original birth certificate, police record which needs to be notarized and translated, and so on....hope I'm getting this right so far.

Then, I'd get the Affidavit of Support, with which I'd submit my tax records and W2 (I am not working right now, but I'd have a joint sponsor in my brother, so this is not a big deal). Would these tax forms and what not need to be notarized?

Then, I'd get two documents, the DS-3032 and the DS-320, for which I'd need to pay around $400 for. I guess the online thing works out fine for me as I can pay for these things via the Net.

Then, hopefully I'd get an interview date.......

Now, my basic question is: what do I need to leave here with my brother so that when the time comes, he can just send all my stuff in along with this paperwork (he is going to Fedex everything I need to sign and then send back everything to NVC).

Is there anything that I'm missing? This process is really annoying and complex it seems...

I don't want to have to incur any extra costs as a result of this, hence my concerns.

If anyone can help me answer my questions, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot!

Kat

I know I asked some of this stuff before, but I want to be 100%. It's not the most greatest place to be able to get stuff back and forth, and quite costly to send via Fedex as well, so want to be pretty sure about everything.

Thanks again.

His original/certified copybirth certificate, his police certificate, his original/certified copy divorce certificate and your original marriage certificate/certified copy

Are you going to just ignore the K3 interview date (if you get that one first) and go to the CR-1 interview appointment?

Also, are you sending ORIGINAL documents for your birth/marriage certificates etc.?

Thanks!
Tim

Documents to the consulate are either sent by NVC or you take them with you for the interview.

If I know the CR-1 interview date before the the actual K3 interview then I will probably just go to the CR-1 if its not too much time between.

Yes I am sending original documents to NVC.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresConfused and Need Advice! K3 in Juarez Mexico
QUOTE (TimyMaggie @ Apr 9 2009, 12:34 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Things are going well with our visa process but I am confused as to my next steps, here's some background info...

I filed I-129F and I-130 concurrently for my Spouse Maggie in Mexico in November 2008. The I-130 approval notice arrived February 20th in my mailbox.

Maggie sent via email the DS3032 letter. She received an email back several days later that the letter form had been successfully submitted/accepted.

I paid both the IV and AOS bills online.

Just yesterday I received a letter from the U.S. Consulate in Ciudad Juarez. Maggie's been scheduled for an interview on May 8th!!! At the bottom of the letter it does say "Preference Category: K3 - MEX". The appointment letter pointed us to: http://ciudadjuarez....visa-forms.html

HOWEVER, this is where I'm confused. Do I do the following?

PACKET 3
Send IV (DS-230) and AOS (I-864) packages to the U.S. Consulate in Juarez before interview date.
Obtain the docs on the checklist to bring to the interview.

PACKET 4
Review medical exam procedures and obtain docs on checklist for the interview.
Complete Medical Exam prior to Interview.

Anything I'm missing here?

My confusion is that I thought I would have to send the IV and AOS packages to the NVC. But looks like I send them directly to the US Consulate in Juarez.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Tim

Your interview is for K3 not CR-1 you dont send any documents to the Embassy. Documents for CR-1 must be sent to NVC. I am in the same position, I have chosen to send my docs to NVC and hope they complete the case there before the K3 interview date, the NVC will forward all your documents to the Embassy when CR-1 case is completed with them. It would be a different interview date for your CR-1 assigned by NVC and it may be possible for NVC to change your scheduled K3 interview date to a CR-1 interview but this is not guaranteed. It may only be a matter of weeks between the interview dates and you can still do both but much better to enter with CR-1 than the K3 as you will enter as a resident and get your GC and wont have to pay more to adjust status which is what you must do if you enter on the K3
Hope this helps.

Although our K3 is already at the Embassy, we are only going with the CR1. I expect it will only take a couple of weeks longer and as PUSHBRK noted, it will cost about $700 less. Plus, since Ivonne already has a US SSN, she can work in the US immediatly. We received our I-129F and I-130 approvals from CSC on the same day! Best wishes,

RickD

Our I-130 and K3 were both approved on the same day, we are going to see how it goes with CR-1 at NVC and then will probably drop K3 if we get done before K3 interview date, we are hoping if we time it right NVC may complete our case and let us change the K3 interview date to a CR-1 interview as the K3 interview should be scheduled much sooner. I will be sending packet 3 back to Embassy this week for the K3.

Ok I am an Australian and wanting to marry an American, I have no Idea which Visa to apply for! we were originally considering the K1 but after speaking to a friend of my mothers who has just recently gone through the same thing ... she has advised me to go for the K3. She seems to think that if me and my partner were to marry in USA that we could then apply for the K3 in USA without me having to leave him is this true? was told that the only negative to this is that I am then unable to go back to Australia for anything until it is approved. She did not do this as she had a son back in Australia and could not leave him like that. Apparently she hired a lawyer who gave her this info.

Can anyone give me any advice on what I should do? I was always told that getting married first then applying was the longest way! I am already struggling being away from him for 2 months.. I hve no idea how people can manage it for 12 months or so! any advice on what I should do would be appreciated smile.gif

We were in the same position, I went over in January we got married and filed for the CR-1 and K3 (but shouldnt have bothered with the K3 as this was approved same time as CR-1) I came home within the time limit and our case is now at NVC so I dont have much time now to sort everything out, we may have been done by now if I wasnt waiting for documents. By doing same thing you can stay a while with him in USA then return home get your things in order ready to move while they are dealing with your case. It seems to depend on which service center you will be going through as to how quick everything goes.

Good Luck!

1) If the person being petitioned is already in the U.S. on a visa waiver(and yes we know that VWP cannot be extended, status can't be changed, etc), can I-130 petition still be filed normally? I think the one being petitioned doesn't have to be out of the U.S. for I-130 to be filed, right?

2) Once I-130 has been filed, can the person being petitioned leave the United States and return as a visitor(with no intention to overstay the visitor's 3 months visa waiver) before the interview/Immigrant visa has been granted?

Thank you

From reading other peoples experiences it can be a problem coming back during the process, depends on border control officials, if they believe it is just a visit, many have done this and many have been denied entry.
We filed our I-130 while I was in the US, I had thought about coming back for a visit but things progressed quite quickly so I decided just to wait.
Good Luck!

We were approved for the I-130 within a few weeks and then the I-129 was denied because the I-130 was not pending. Our lawyer says we should go for the I-824 and early 2010 is optimistic. So we're packing up and we're moving to Baguio until the interview. Any thoughts?

Yes, fire this lawyer, get your file back from him and contact NVC to pursue the CR1 visa. K3 is dead anyway. The lawyer just wants to perform services (for mor fees) that are not needed. An I-824 will not help you and is not needed.

The CR-1 is used when the I-130 is processed at an embassy/consulate, ours was processed in the states.

You have not read and understood the CR1 process. It's the one you are currently following, whether you understand it now or not. Please read the CR1 guide. The process starts by filing the petition with a USCIS service center in the US, but once approved the I-130 goes to NVC and on to an Embassy or Consulate abroad. If your I-130 is not at the NVC now, it will be soon.

DCF (Direct Consular Filing) is only available when you are residing abroad for at least six months. (varies somewhat by country) With an I-130 already approved, it doesn't matter anymore whether you ever had that option. You just follow the path you're on.

Your lawyer may be nearly as confused as you are. Fire the lawyer.

Isn't that what filing the I-824 does? Why do you say that it does us no good? Our lawyer by the way is not charging us any more than he originally was.

The I-130(CR-1) you filed is the main immigrant visa - the I-129(K3) is a non immigrant visa available to those who are awaiting approval of the I-130. You are already approved for the I-130 so therefore you cant apply for the K3

I have read it on this site under INTERVIEW, that i wont be eligible for my k3 visa if my I-130 is approved. How true is it. My K3 interview is next month, and both my I-129f and I-130 were approved same time in early March and i decided to go with K3, hoping my CR1 will eventually die.

help!!

Same thing for me both approved on the same day but I am hoping to let the K3 go as CR-1 is the better one.

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Nothing For UnGood

My husband (the USC) wrote a book about the German quirks-from an american perspective. It is called Nothing For UnGood (the Germans here will know why it's kinda funny) and came out in Germany, Switzerland and Austria last month. It is now in the new best seller list in place 23! I am very proud of my husband and thought I'd share it with you. Maybe the one or other has read it?

You can indeed be proud of your husband. I read parts of his book while waiting in a bookstore here in Austria.. It's hilarious!! The chapter about root beer.. and the one about road signs... LOL!!! I have lived in the States before so I can relate to everything he wrote about. Everything he finds funny or weird over here I find weird about the US  I will probably go back and buy it!

Hi, my husband and I both have a Nokia 5030 and our provider is T-Mobile. We only use it for calling and texting. Texting is free. So far we are very happy with it.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresLost Copies
Hello everybody!

It's been a while since I last asked for help, but I now have a problem that's really bugging me. My husband and I made copies of everything we sent in to the USCIS so far, which included the I-130 and the I-129F.
It now seems like we somehow managed to lose all the copies we made of the forms we sent in, as well as the I-130 Receipt Notice thing. We made those copies so I could have them for the interview, and now I'm a bit stressed out. How important do you think it is to bring copies to the interview? Or will the interviewer have copies of everything anyway?
Any help would be greatly appreciated - thank you!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresQuestions please??
Hello and welcome!
To check the status of your application online, you will need to creat a 'Customer Portfolio Account' here: https://egov.immigra.../jsps/index.jsp
A touch may mean that your application got worked on, but it could also mean that it was simply moved from one pile to another.. you know you got a touch when the date in the 'Last updated' column changes.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat to do exactly when both are accepted. (k3 and cr1)

So did I understand this right? Even if my I-130 gets approved 2 or 3 weeks before my I-129F, it will still be forwarded to the NBC and sit there?

No, that is not correct. Your I-130 getting approved any number of days before your I-129F was not addressed but in cases of timely filed I-129F's, the new reality is that both are approved the same day. We've seen some I-130's approved first, in some cases where the I-129F was filed three or more months after the I-130. In those cases, the I-130 does continue to NVC (NOT NBC).

Generally the approvals come either at the same time or I-129F first. In those cases, the I-130 is NOT forwarded to the NVC (National Visa Center). It is retained at the service center until either it is needed for AOS or an I-824 is processed to get it moving again.

Thank you. I know that this topic was about the two petitions being approved at the same time, but was just wondering if 2-3 weeks would make a difference or be considered 'approved at the same time' too.
The reason I'm wondering is because my VisaJourney timeline tells me it's possible that my I-130 gets approved 10 days prior to I-129F. I'll just wait and see what happens I guess.
Again, thank you for your answer!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK3-March'07 Filers-Case Transferred to CSC

Some stats for VSC K3s using timeline search (all "days" since NOA1):

10 out of 12 Oct/Nov 06 filers approved (avg: 54 days)
8 out of 9 Dec 06 filers approved (avg: 44 days)
11 out of 12 Jan filers approved (avg: 57 days)
10 out of 14 Feb filers approved (avg: 47 days)
0 out of 15 March filers approved (avg wait: 60 days; min 48; max 70)

March VSCers should see approvals by end of May, unless something is really wrong :(
(A motivated soul can do this for CSC)

-edit-
I predict mine will be approved in the last week of May.

12 out of 14 Nov filers approved (avg: 86 days)
13 out of 17 Dec filers approved (avg: 85 days)
14 out of 20 Jan filers approved (avg: 82 days)
4 out of 7 Feb filers approved (avg: 73 days)
1 out of 16 March filers approved (avg: 28 days, though with only 1 approval, that's not much of an 'average')

avg= Average days between 1st NOA and 2nd NOA
