Question: Do any of you buy saltfish in your area? I found saltfish online for 3.99/lb boneless and skinless good.gif Problem is the shipping is MORE than the fish itself! We can't find any in our area...if you have it in your area...what is the cost? Is 3.99 a good deal and should I just suck it up on the shipping?

We have it here in the Farmer's Market for about that price, no shipping cost. Have you tried the Farmer's Market in your area? You should also check local meat/fish markets to see if they can get it for you. I can't find ackee to go with my saltfish. I can't find fresh calaloo either. crying.gif crying.gif

Hope you find a great deal though. good.gif

Jawi

The 285 Farmers Market on Covington Hwy and 285 always have Calaloo and often have canned Akee. Fresh breadfruit.
The Kingston Market across the street near the unemployment office have several things too.

Hi Ladies ,
Like most of you life has me really busy. Congrats to all those whom received their visas and all the new arrivals and arrivals to come to the VJ Family. All the Likkle ones.

I met my SO while i was in Jamaica to meet my husband to BE!!! I had been talking to my friend for almost 3 years before I decided to go Jamaica to meet him in person. Me and my best friend stayed in Runnaway Bay . His name was David nad him and his friend came to the hotel. He was gorgeous and fine but what ruined it he started asking for MONEY. So needless to say the first day I met him was the last.
My girlfriend and I made a pack that we would just enjoy our vacation . NO MEN!!!!!!!!! We went to the Fall two day later and werwe hit on by every Gigolo in Jamaica helpsmilie.gif . As we were leaving the Falls this dark chocolate man said hello. WHO? My SO. Remember the pack? No more men !!! Didn't work out. First I thought he was another gigolo but he said he was waiting on his family to come out and they did !! We were together all the time after that. I was even
stranded 3 extra days due to the hurricaine. After I returned home I felt like I left a part of me there. We spoke everyday.
Well I started the process in August 2005 and had second thoughts because how could this be real ? I had only known him 10 days. So ladies I started dating an American and cancelled the visa process . My SO was heart broken and so was I but I had known the other guy for three years and he started to pursue me gifts, wineing and dining. We broke -up 6 months later . My So never stopped calling and checking on me wishing me happiness.
He called one night and asked me how Me and my new man were doing and I told him what happened. He didn't say I told you so or even laugh all he said was when are you coming down to let me hold you. The rest is history and I am now MRS. VERTON WHITE.
So for those that second guess if it's real trust your head but follow your heart.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaSorry I have not been on in awhile...

My mother passed away on October 29. Just now trying to get back into the swing of life as well as pick up the pieces. Marlon has been very supportive throughout this most trying time in my life as well as my friends and family. He called me this morning and told me he got his police record already! So, he has spurred me to start getting stuff together on my end so we can file by December 31. I am hoping to go see him next month not only for his comfort but also to start my grieving as I have not had a chance to yet what with work and being strong for my family. Just thought I would post, thanks for letting me share.

(F) My deepest condolence, stays strong i know it's hard (F) . God bless you.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaGood news!!!

I spoke to Marlon today and he let me know that he finally received a response finally from Birmingham about his divorce decree. He needs to send a fee and said that he would get it sorted out by tomorrow or Thursday. I also finished my second to last semester at ASU! Despite my mother's passing I made it and passed both of my classes (B- and C.) I also wanted to say thanks to my VJ family for your support, encouragement, and advice. Hugs to all of you

Congratulations. I know studing could not have been easy. BUT YOU DID IT  .

Mexico, Latin & South America**I am back**

Well, as you guys know we had an interview scheduled for Thursday, Feb 1 @ 12:15pm. We arrived at the Embassy at 11:45 and was ushered in at 12pm. Did the security check and was sent to the immigrant visa section.

The only thing that turned me off at the embassy was the way in which some of the Jamaican women treated us. They were downright RUDE, which was totally uncalled for. The irony of the situation is that the Americans treated us with much more respect, go figure.

The interview process was a little nerve racking, we were interviewed separately in a private room (Thank the Lord). Because with those windows and mikes you can an hearful. Some not so pleasant \o/ The lady who interviewed us was very nice to us. She asked us questions such as how we met, how many times I visited, when we got married, where we got married. She asked my husband where I lived, my mom's name. who filed for me, what I did for a living etc. Since my hubby and I were together the night before she asked us what time my plane came in, if he picked me up. what we had for dinner, what I wore to bed....

She also asked if I knew his number which I did, at this point I tried to have a normal conversation with her. She said our wedding pictures were beautiful. She didn't even ask for proof of the relationship, the lady was really really nice I can't stress that anymore.

After the brief conversation with her she told me to get my husband, and she told us to stop being nervous our visa has been approved. Then my husband burst out, I can get my son now!! and kissed me (L)

We were the first ones to walk out with our visa and went over to airpack where they told us that the passport and supporting documentation would be sent to us in 5-10 business days. We got the package in 1 business day :D

Our plan was to have my hubby travel a week after I left, but when we got the voicemail message on Monday night, I was still deciding if he should wait until the following week or come with me Wednesday....lets just say after Monday night I didn't need to think about it anymore  I woke up called Air JA and they had available seats. We booked the ticket and left. His family and friends are still in shock....my friends are screaming their lungs out and the my sister's 21month old baby has stuck to him like glue, he can't even hug me without her frowning :help: even though she just met him yesterday and I cannot believe he is at home in our bed watching TV. \o/ *sigh*

He is a barber by trade, and he has ton of friends in NY. Let him watch TV one day he's going to wish he has the opportunity to do so.

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT VISA JOURNEY!!!!!!!

I am so late in CONGRAt but be happy.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaFinally - Some wedding photos

Ok, I went through and somewhat grouped, resized and uploaded some photos from the wedding. It was a cold, but beautiful day. It had snowed the day before, but we got nothing but sunshine (and cold). :)

I put the photos up on our website. As I said, I didn't do a lot with them, including really sort or title any of them. So they are not in order, but hopefully you will enjoy them. I have another 250+ photos that are promised to us from friends, and another 400+ to go through here on my other computer. Hopefully I will get to them soon enough.

Enjoy!!! http://www.jakeandkathe.com

What beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing! Wishing you both much happiness.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaGoing to spouses country to await immigration

hey thanks everyone for all of your comments. My lawyer says that I need to show only my 2006 tax returns, and then a letter from my employer saying how much I make and how long I have been with them. Since I am with a temp agency I can still use them even if I haven't worked with them in a while, becasue upon my return they will have work for me, and I work for them currently. Besides I am selling a piece of property at the moment so that should show that I ahve enought to care for us both. My mom will also co-sponsor us if need be. I am excited to be with my son full time. Instead of up at dark gone to school and work home at dark and up again to do it all over again. We will be in Grange District, and like I said we get current and Hydro so its all good. and what does a 2 yo really need? some pull ups and apple juice  He's really very smart, vocab of over 200 words and he turns 2 in april! so i will work more with him on letters and numbers, let him chase chickens and goats, and read lots of books. thanks everyone I read every word and appreciate it all.
Please keep em comming!
Eva & Ethan

that was us on a camping trip about a year ago we look good rough right??

If you can afford to be with your husband be with your husband . Your beautiful child will have a great experience a full time MOM and DAD. Like you said hot water is not the problem missing your man is!!
I lived with my husband only a week and we didn't have hot water but being together was great!!! It did make me appreciate what I have here more!!! We take so much for granted!!

I already know my fiance is in for a rude awakening....he thinks it is a piece of cake to just have whatever you want here..house, car, nice clothes, electronics. I'm like, duh i have to work my a** off for those "nice" things....and you will too! He always says my son is a rich kid because he has an xbox 360 and an ipod and nice sneakers. I get very offended when he says that and have tried to set him straight many times by telling him the sacrifices i make for my son to have those things....he does not GET it! i know this will be a challenge!!!!!

You are right !!! He is in for a wake up call. My husband didn't understand until he saw I got up every morning. Whether i felt like it or not because bills have to be paid. If you want nice things you have to work for them. Yeah America is the place to be if you want to work hard to have something.

Exactly. I read someone's post on here about how his girl loved the simple things and wasn't like the US women he knew all about material things. My first thought was.....yah, right.......wait till she gets here and exactly what was said above happens.

Beautiful picture.

Thank you. I've been trying for a while to get one posted on here somewhere. I'm a little computer challenged most days.

Hi everyone I am by know means a Vet I am somewhere in between
I wanted to add my two cents into the adjustment process theirs and ours.
I totally agree with whom ever said that you really don't know your love one untill they are here.
My husband arrived before Christmas we have had alot of hurdles to overcome because we did not know each other. It is real easy to be nice and easy going for a week or two at a time when you are on vacation because most of that time you are making up for lost time  . When they are here 7 days a 24 hrs a day it gets to be more then a challege . You get up and go to work and he's still in the bed  drives me wacko!!! And I know he would work if he could  . Finding out that he has to get a GED "WHAT YOU DIDN"T FINISH HIGH SCHOOL"!! That never came up in our conversations :o . You have to be very prepared like the Vets say don't take anything for granted and know yourself. If you are not PATENT you are in for a hard road. I love my husband very much and i would do it again but please be prepared to raise a 5th grader at first!!! Then they start getting cocky when they think they have learned something . Take it day by day and know the road is not easy . LET the love help you through the hard times.

texas bound .......yeah yeah went down there and did the damn thing hope you can bring back ur honey.

Hello my family!!!! I am back in Texas. Unfortunately my sweetie did not get the Airpak info in time to travel back with me!!! This was very frustrating having to leave him again & the fact that I was assured by my interviewer that everything would be in my hands prior to our travel date---which was 7 days later!!! Anyway, I came, I went & I conquered. My trip was stressful due to the waiting with Airpak. But I got what I came for ---an APPROVAL. My interview was very, very UNLIKE any I’ve heard of. It was very professional in all aspects. We arrived at 7:30am, the line was pretty short around 15 people in front of us. I went over his original information he received in the mail---& sure enough there were things I had not seen before –like the request for a right side profile shot of him, notarized I-864 for co sponsor etc. Fyi, someone screwed up our photos we received the night before regarding the side profile shot so we went across the street from the embassy that a.m. & had them re done instantly. It was very early in the a.m. & the Rastas were actually open for business. We went into the compound and were advised to put our names on the back of our photos. We were given a slip of paper that gave instructions for Visa Pick up – Airpak. We were told to sign the DS 230 (the requestor did not say part I—which could have been confusing to many), but you only sign part I & once inside in front of the embassy interviewer you sign part II. They let you in by groups according to your times so we waited a bit outside on the benches. We were pretty comfortable as we played tic tac toe like kids & laughed & talked. I mean at this point this was the day we waited for & were ready. Once inside they have 3 separate sections. 1st section they called my sweetie to the window for fingerprints & also took his photo. 2nd section rude- pushy lady asked for our paperwork. I asked her which ones did she want, & she curtly stated Do you not know what you need to turn in, you can sit down if you are not ready?, I responded patiently, calmly & professionally, Iam ready & continued to pull my paperwork out, according to the way I had them filed in my binder. I started to give her the list. It was soooooo evident she did not know what to ask me for ---no list or anything because as I was pulling the documents out someone walked up to her & gave her my original packet & was talking to her. After that person left she began reading off what was needed. She even forgot to ask for the DS 157 (as my interviewer later asked for it). Next Section 3 -----we sat up front & listened as other people were drilled!!!!! It was unbelievable how they truly question some of them. It is so evident that some were borderline fraudulent & un prepared.

She said to me that my information packet had quite a bit of info & was one of the biggest. I thanked her for the compliment. She also asked me what my binder was that I had & I advised her “This was more evidence for proof of relationship.” She said you are prepared & I said “Yes, this is the day & purpose of my application.” We were interviewed together, & were asked only a few questions. They asked me what do I do for a living. Do I have any children? They asked him why he loved me; where do I live, do I have a large family, how many sisters do I have? That was pretty much it. She was soooo friendly & accommodating. She asked me for 2006 taxes (I had already submitted 2005 to Section II lady which reflected majority of Business income). She said she just wanted to make sure I was over the poverty line & stated that my 2006 would likely be easier to read. I supplied it to her & advised her that I attempted to give 06 to the other lady & she did not want it. She did not ask for new evidence, photos, I-864, nothing. That is it, approved. I spoke to her about the time frame for release of the passport & she stated that there would not be a problem because she would have them printed the next day & should be ready by Friday. -------------- Didn’t happen though. Oh well. As many before me have said, have all of your paperwork ready & you will succeed. I will give you the same advice I gave my sweetie “They will try to rush you, don’t feel pressured just give them everything at your pace, you take control & be confident” Thank you all fellow board members for your guidance.

DS 156 Question!!!

1. My fiance got his passport in Ochi but is telling me to put Kingston as the place of issuance (#2 on the DS 156)...any thoughts on this???

uummm it's kingston...

and lovinja....they should have given it to him....but ask for it at the embassy....after approved and ask for....it heard some where that they might be getting rid of the whole civil surgeon thing as well....so you might be in luck if you don't get it.....but remind hime to bring his vacination card with him to the states!

ebony.....you have to go to a registars office to pay for it before the interview...he needs to bring the reciept with him to the interview...then once he gets it he has to pay arepack for them to deliever it,

Thanks. I will definitely be asking for it after we are approved.... I can't imagine them saying no...

Lovinja all we recieve was a copy of the shot record not the whole medical. Thats all you need for the civil surgeon.

hi everyone, i has been quite a day.my interview was today at 8.15, i arrive at the embassy at around 7.15 had to stand in the sun until they called in the person with 8.15 appointment. Went inside(courtyard) we were given a pink paper to write our passport number on,we were also told sign our police reports, DS230 part 1, to write our names on the back our four pictures, then a man took our appointment letters and we were asked to follow him inside the embassy. I had to sit and wait to be called to the prescreening area(which is called section A) then i was sent to sit in Section B. i was then called to a window where i give them my documents(all listed above) plus my birth certificate and marriage certificate, i was then told sit wait again, i was then called to have my finger print taken i was sent to sit and wait again, in Section C this where waited to be called for an interview. When i was called the interviewer asked if i had ever been out of jamaica. she asked how we met? where we met. how often did he visit since we met? how many people were at our wedding, which of his and my family were there? when did i meet his family member who attended the wedding. what does he do for a living, why didn't he visit me between 2001 and 2003.do we have children together or does any of us have children otherwise? did he still live with his mother?,she only asked to see pictures of our wedding(ishowed her 8,i had an album) i answered all questions to the best of my ability, then she said everything was in order and was going give a map to go across the street to pay for the deliver of my visa. she said the actually process can take 2 weeks so make no travel arrangements til i have the visa in my hand. I am so happy thank u all. It's not hard if u r prepared

Way to Go Congrats!!!!!!!

I need wisdom please....

Question 1:

I looked under Embassy Info for Kingston and it says Visa Fee Payments should be sent in advance. Should I have my fiance get an appt. at the embassy to take the fee in?

Question 2:

Our interview is March 27th. I am flying in on the 26th, and will be there until April 2nd. I would like to go ahead and purchase his ticket to return with me on the 2nd. Is that too risky? Of course I am being positive and assuming we will be approved. But is is realistic to think he will have his visa in four working days like it states on the website? I know I should probably wait to get his ticket, but it will be so expensive to get it a the last minute. He really wants to travel with me since he has never been on a plane.... He has never been to the gates at the airport.... I would hate for him to have to make the trip alone!

Thanks!

i don't think you were on here when i went through the whole visa thing....it took mike like 10 days....and that is because my mother called and was in a fight with the embassy and i was in a fight with the air pack people...to be real with you it will take about 2 weeks....so my best advice would be to wait until you actually have the visa....then wait till he gets it....

Wow.... not what I wanted to hear :crying: But, I think I should probably wait on his ticket and just plan accordingly. Thanks for the info.

Girl what a small world I live in Lithonia too. My husbands a member of the Carribean Leguea. He plays every Sunday on Covington Hwy or Wade Walker Park off of Stone Mountain Lithonia. I stay off of Panola.

LovinJA Im glad to see you are near the end of your journey as are many of us the next few weeks. The Paymaster has many locations in Jamaica, your sweetie will be able to find one no problem. Ask him & he will know....usually the city. Settle down. Go ahead an book the flights but be prepared to re schedule if necessary. Im surprised you havent booked yours sooner. I had to book mine last month & they still ran over $1k + we booked JA to JFK to Dallas. So you know the cost & hotel stay in NY will be costly---but we feel it will be worth it. At this point, just make sure your packet is ready & current, pay the $100 fee & wait. Good luck, Im sure you will be fine as the rest of us will.
Make sure your DS156 has the barcode, & make 2-3 copies of every government document.

Thanks!

I am flying from Atlanta, and directly back to Atlanta. The prices are pretty reasonable now. The lowest I've found is $290 roundtrip. I read somewhere that JFK issues the temporary work stamp. Is that why you are flying into JFK? That may be the better route to go if thats the case. Is there a way I can find out if the Atlanta airport issues them?

Great advise about the copies of the gov't docuements!

What $100 fee are you referring to? I know the visa fee is $335, but is there another fee that I should be prepared for?

May we all have success this month!!!

Hey I just notice you are in Atlanta me too!! Good luck I purchaced his ticket ahead of time and it took 8 days to deliver the Visa but he wasin Morant Bay So that's the country. I had to pay a change fee. Most peple try to go through JFK to get a EAD stamp so there honey can work.

Hey Veterans I have a final tidbit as I am less than 2 weeks away from the I - Day.

DS-157----there is not a place to sign, Did you have to sign it, as there is not a signatory page???

Medical Questionnaire/History---do we need to bring a fresh one completed to the interview?

The medical questionaire was retained by the Medical Doctor. You don't need a extra one he sends it back in the medical packet to the Embassy. But very good advise to make extra copies of all government forms. Make sure you have enough passport photos. We needed 4 at the interview.
