It's very hard for people to get into the construction trade here in Georgia our Latino brothers have those jobs truly locked up here. My husband ended up in a totally diferent trade. While he was waiting on his greencard i brought different types of applications home so he could practice fillinf them out. That way he learn the address and phone #. His first job was through a Temp agency and they kept him working until his job at the college came through. My husbands education was not even high school he stopped going to help the family. I did several different resumes to match whatever job he was applying for. I think it also makes a difference when you are actually in their homes and in their neighborhood. I believe that you are given more respect most times if locals see you shopping with your man (or alone) in the grocery store. Showering outside like the rest, doing laundry, going to the local beach to get fish (my absolute favorite thing to do btw) and watch all the men get rowdy over the fish, etc. When folks are able to see that you accept the man in his environment, and not just when he's walking around with you on the nice resorts, then they can feel a little differently about you and the genuiness of your relationship (not that you should have to prove anything to them anyway, but it is what it is) Funny thing MrsPalmer I did the shower thing and it was 4 pole and a blue tarp and when I asked my husband could anyone see me he said no. I said hell I know if I can see them They can se my big old rusty Butt. If any of you had looked out your plane window upon landing or take off at Sangster, you had a chance to catch a glimpse of one of us. After a while, it grew on me. I love different cultures I am amazed at the different beliefs in people. Just the other day my husband was talking about food rules ####### I said what are food rules he said that certain things are suppose to be eaten and certain things are not . He told my son who also love different cultures that if he tried alligator meat he would try human meat becuase alligator meat's not in the food rules . . I love reading the laugauge and often fool pt into thinking i am Jamaican. We are culturely diversed at work also so I have friends that are Costa Rican and Guyaneese and they also tell me I am not the usual American. I learn so much from all of u guys . I even know what my husband is saying when he doesn't want me to know . I will never tell him I learn alot that way. I asked him the other day if he would take me to a strip club in Jamaica he asked how u know of such a thing(thanks HONEY). I grew up in the South where Prejudice still remains and unchecked most of the time. As a young black southern girl I was taught that black and white don't mix. My Mom use to say if U married a white man U can come to Christmas dinner but he can't. I went to an all black elementry school and 1 year in High School, so to be really honest I was never exposed to other cultures. I saw white people on TV or when I went with my grand mother to help clean white peoples houses. When I turned 14 our house burned down and my father moved us into an all white neighborhood. Talking about culture shock!!!!!! I went from an all black school to being the 5th black person in a all white school. Our hood was so bad that the first night we were there they put toilet paper in all our front yard trees. When ever we were playing in the front yard we were told niggers U don't belong in this neighborhood go back to Africa. Needless to say my opinion of white people were not good. I hated to see a black man with a white women. I hated going to an all white school untill my 10th grade year when I met three very decent teacher all of them white. They taught me that all people have good and bad in all the races, even my race. My eyes were opened but I still had to deal with my MOM because I had this huge crush on what!!!!! A white boy . He would walk me home but I told him I couldn't let my Mom see him. Well one day she did and lord have mercy she called me in the house and told me she was going to fine me hanging in a tree. I sat my mother down and asked her what would she prefer me dating someone that totally respected me ,opened doors and cared about my feelings or a guy that was only out to get in my pants whether they were black whit e or chineses? She conceeded to meet Lance is that a white boys name or what??? She was so inpressed with him, but her opinion still didn't change but she never questioned my choice in boyfriends. In this school my best friends were 1 Korean and 2 latinos and 2 caucasians no blacks. They ran in and out of my MOMs home untill I graduated. So now it really doesn't bother me at all to see a black man with any race of women. What bothers the he!! out of me is when the black man talks bad about his black queens!!! Like because he prefers a different race that our race of women are bad. His Mom was black. I also hate when a white woman acts like she has accomplished somthing big because she has a black man and downs the sisters. Because no matter what color we are, we are all sisters. I've showed all me friends your picture wifey. or u just meet and they want to take pictures with u because they know the Visa process and u have to have proof of being together. You are at a resort and everytime he walks by he has to touch u in someway but look closely ladies he's touching everyone in that special way. No mon can love ya like me star I rate you and my family rates u . He calls u when u get home and he has lost his phone and has put his chip in someone elses phone, but girl u are worth the trouble then hints a new phone will only cost $70 american.
