My husband passed his interview this morning and we are going back for the oath ceremony at 2pm. It was so easy, the guy didn't even ask to see anything we were asked to take to the interview. Just asked him 6 questions and had him write a sentence. It was funny when we saw this guy coming out to get people we both said oh he looks like John Mcain. He was a very nice guy.

Well I am STILL waiting for my Flash Cards.....at this rate I will be a citizen before they arrive..

You know you don't have to order those flash cards. You can download them from the uscis website for free.
The flash cards, test questions, and a study booklet are all right there on the site and can be downloaded and printed
on your printer. This is what we did. Go to this website and scroll down to the bottom. You will find the vocabulary test, written test vocabulary,
gov. and civic test questions, and flash cards.

Good luck to you and your fiance. She will do just fine. I lived in Cebu City Philippines for three years and cannot wait until we are approved so I can go back and see my fiance again. Thanks for your post

Once again God Speed on your final journey!

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioninterview
Usually you receive the packet 4-5 weeks before your interview. Read some of our timelines and you will see. Onto another topic. I suggest an early medical as we learned the hard way. If they suspect one blur on an xray they are flagging for follow up sputum test which is saliva. They do these test the following week which is the interview date. I suggest a chest and lung x ray now just in case. You will be fine just be over-cautious. Those that prepared well (not us) tended to do better. Learn from us (hehe).
Good luck!

PhilippinesPhilippine Excursion Ideas
Good day everyone. These posts are just what the Doctor ordered for me. We started our K1 last month as my fiancee is from Cebu and I miss her very much. I lived in Cebu for three years and worked in the Economic Zone on Mactan and for some stupid reason waited until I returned in May to contact a Lawyer and start the process. I am now living in Atlanta waiting for my sweethearts processing time.

Both Marnelle and I went to Hong Kong as well. I agree you can do this very cheap and break up your Visa if you are on the 21 day time limit. I just wanted to have Marnelle experience flying and as with others show we traveled together Hong Kong has changed over the years but is still nice and fun. As for the Philippines I recommend Don Batayan Island North of Cebu ( drive 3-4 hours) from Cebu City as well as Manapasqua (spelling??) north east of Cebu (both good diving and snorkeling). Then there is Bohol. A nice 2 hour Superferry ride from Cebu (if never been, the ferry is a very large speed boat-small cruise ship no beds just airline tpye seats but has aircon). Cost for round trip less than 800p (20 bucks) when I went last November. Bohol has beautiful beaches and of course the worlds smallest monkey the Tarsier (spelling again is not my strong point). Seeing the monkey is over rated but cool just to say you have done it. Then there are the chocolate hills in Bohol. I chartered a small banka boat and went to another island. Kind of a rough ride but fun. cost less than 50 bucks for the day.

I went to Boracay as well. I flew in and I swear it is like flying into fantasy island if you are my age and remember that show. Asian Spirit flies there daily. Cost around 150 bucks round trip. I had a blast there. I golfed, jet ski and then rented for 100 usd a sail boat to go snorkeling, island hopping, cave hopping and the price included a pretty good meal as the captain cooked for us including SML beer, soda, water. Meal included beef, chicken, pork, shrimp and of course............ RICE ( LOL). I went with a buddy of mine before I dated Marnelle and had a wonderful weekend.

My other buddy went down towards Mindanao and did white water rafting, then he went to Leyte and went whale watching. I can get info on this if anyone would like.

In closing I hired an Attorney to do our K1. I did this for two reasons. One I knew Marnelle will be nervous at her interview time. My Attorney went through the K1 with his wife and now specializes in Immigration Visas only. He will call Marnelle and talk with her as he knows exactly what Manila will ask. This alone was worth the money. And second is my time is limited as I run for divisions in the SE. If anyone's fiancee is close to Cebu City both Marnelle and I can assist as our time gets closer.

Well I guess I have chatted enough. I miss Cebu and my financee dearly.

Best regards to all and thanks for the posts.

Philippinesjust want to ask........
Hi Robert and Sheryl,

I am 41 and my financee is from Cebu and she is 24 in December. I hired an attorney to take care of the documents and he has a 100% money back guarantee for placement as long as everything we stated is accurate on our application. He does not see a problem with our age. A lot of time when age comes into affect is if the petioner (American) is close to retirement age and his/her fiancee is a lot younger then they may question the age difference. Like everyone stated below, just have your documents prepared and be confident is what my Attorney said as well.

Good luck!

PhilippinesConfirming your Interview Results
Congrats and thanks for your feedback. It gives me hope that we can get this completed yet this year. It will be tight for Marnelle and I.

For everyone else, I had an ex girlfriend that I brought back with me on one of may vacations two years ago. I attended her interview up until the time she went in for the last round. If the Embassy does not give you back your passport this means you are approved. You are then sent to another area to finalize the payment for them to send you your Visa in less than 5 days. It is fast after they have your passport. Good luck to everyone!

Anything other than bt-store.com out there? Anyone know any discount agents? I wish i could fly to Cebu for the same price as some of the Manila fairs... Best I had so far was my 1st trip. $1300 round trip... I wish i could fly for around $900!!!
g

I am going to Cebu in November for 9 days. I have my AMX agent working on mine to see what she can do. I do know from flying to and from Cebu for three years for work that Philippine Airlines has the best rates. They (PAL) flies out of Las Vegas through Vancouver to Manila as well as San Fran and LAX. The best I found was $1187 with PAL through to Cebu.

I am also looking for a travel mate that has a 2k budget. PAL has buy one take one Business Class round trip to Manila. Then a quick $100 round trip ticket to Cebu as it is only 1 hour from Manila. The total price is 4k for the round trip. We have to fly out bound together but coming back you have 6 months to use the ticket. If you get to Manila, Cebu Pacific (they have a website) have fares as low as 60 bucks round trip Manila to Cebu depending on time of year. Or a 22 hour boat ride for 25 bucks can be done. Nice beautiful boat ride too.

I hope this helps.

Anyone iterested in seeing their fiancee in the Phils around second-third week of November and want to share the PAL Business Class fare, please give me a shout at sbragg71@hotmail.com. Economy that far at 6'0 or above is no fun and I have broad shoulders. I did it once and may have to do it again if no takers! Ouch!

Good luck to everyone in their Journey!

PhilippinesVisa question
[quote name='jerzboi' date='Sep 20 2007, 12:49 AM' post='1204960']
Ok I have a few more questions before I book Eve’s flight to the US. Eve’s interview is on November 5th and I am being optimistic that everything will go well so I am looking at booking the flight for November 21st so…….

1. For those that live in Cebu how long after the interview did it take to receive your visa?

2. If you do the CFO Guidance and Counseling Seminar before you go to the interview once you receive your
visa can you just go back to CFO to get the stamp at anytime?

3. Lastly is anyone else leaving from Cebu headed for the US by way of Cathay Pacific on November 21st?

As always thank you for your help!
Hi Jerzboi,
I lived in Cebu three years as an Ex Pat. I can be of some assisitance. I can only answer Q1 with it took less than 5 days for my ex GF to receive her Visa back from Manila when she traveled back with me in 2005. I think it was like 3 days total. They are pretty fast as a courier service delivers it.

Can't answer number 2, sorry.

#3 I am heading over on November 14th on Philippines Airlines out of LAX. I return on November 25th. We can help you if you like.

To answer a few more questions; Blue Horizon Travel in Cebu is great. I think I paid less than $50.00 and they actually took care of my ex gf's visa. They actually mock interview them and have a great success rate.

As for exit taxes. We paid only the customary 200p for domestic and now it is up to 500-700p for INternational departure tax. Manila is a little higher on heir exit tax but no more than 20 bucks USD.

I hope this helps. I will just be on Holiday for 9 days to spend my time with my fiancee and friends. I will be more than happy to assist you. I know how nerve wracking this can be as Filipinas get nervous easy. I am sure she will do fine. If you want you can email at sbragg71@hotmail.com as I only check in once a week here as i travel for my job right now.

I am happy to see you are two months ahead of me so maybe a January 08 approval date is what we are shooting at based on your timeline.

Good Luck

Who would you choose to book the flight from the philippines to USA?

Well first congratulations on your approval. I have flown numeorus routes to and from the Phils. Cheapest and not too bad fro comfort is Philippines Airlines (PAL). They have a website. Get to Manila and then you can go via LAX, SF or Las Vegas.

I don't know if you are going to go get your fiance and fly with her,,,, but if you don't and have any issues about her entering the USA alone you can fly American Airlines to Vancouver. PAL flies Manila Las Vegas via a stop over in Vancouver to drop some passengers and pick up others.. Then 2.5 hours and you are in Vegas. Did that route and it is pretty good.

I just visited my fiancee in Novemeber and flew PAL. I flew business class round trip from LAX via Manila for 2400. I check for one way and you can get an Economy Manila to any of the three USA ports for less than $1000.

Other more expensive options: Northwest, Cathay Pacific but both are more expensive. Just please be aware, PAL wants proof of the credit card that purchased the ticket when your fiancee picks the ticket up so you may have to research. I was just given a few names and numbers in the Altanta area of travel brokers for the Phils. Let me know if you want these contacts.

Take care,
SHawn

I was there for three years for work. I drove a Harley and my Everest (like a Ford Exployer just Asian Ford MFG). I liked my buddies Harley the best. Made me buy one when I returned.

I prefer the old Trike as well when I was in Bohol and Borracay. Made them earn their pesos peddaling i kid you not, me and my buddy both go 275. One man got us to and from.... Man strong legs!

Never got guts enough to jump on a jeepne. Affraid they would charge me for two or three filipinos lol

PhilippinesInterview Manila
When my fiancee goes for her interview will they ask her for any documents that we mailed to the USIC to gain approval or does the embassy already have copies of these documents?

She has all my tax; financial and employment information along with her forms.

My Attorney handled it up to this point but now has been silent (more about that later when this is over) and has not finished what he stated he would,,,,maybe "yet" to his benefit. However we are one week away from the interview and I now need to double check for ourselves.

Hope we are ready!

Thanks

PhilippinesAnyone flying to Manila the week of March 23?
Good luck! I am sure you have read a lot. I suggest you have your financee go for an early medical. I did not as I lived with her in Cebu for months before and she was healthy. I ended my assignment and moved back to USA. She recieved "something on her x ray" at her medical which now after a week of check ups appear to be nothing negative. Do not take anything for granted and I suggest as Nscrnut advised, do not make any plans for her return until you get through your interview. I chat with quite a few going through this and it seems if you have close dates something may happen. Just relax and make sure she gets through her medical and interview. I now am very relaxed and not anctious as I am tired of let downs.
Expedia had good rates through this weekend along with Philippines airlines for roughly 1,200 round trip. If you find a friend to go with you can get buy one take one on PAL business class for 2k each. Whew much more comfortable.

Take care and good luck again! Be parnoid now and you will do great. take nothing for granted!

PhilippinesManila exam
My fiancee was told by St. Lukes that there was a problem with her xray and that she had to come back in 3 days for a phlem or saliva test. When I asked her what they said they found in her xray, she did not know as this is all they told her.

She went and saw a Doctor in Manila and he prescribed medicine for her to take and said it will clear it up. My problem is she was never told what was wrong in her xray (no specifics) and so I am wondering what he prescribed. She acted like he does this often and was confident.

Question 1: Has anyone else had the same issue? I am searching in VJ for this and took time out to send this. WHat was your end result?

Q2: Her next Medical is this Monday 3/3. Her scheduled interview is Wednesday the 5th. Concern is are they going to reschedule her interview now or wait until her follow up confirms their findings or clears her? If they do re-schedule do we go back into a wait list for two-three or more months?

Thanks for answering all my threads.

PhilippinesSputum Manila
Anyone out there recently get their clearance after being sent through the sputum test? I am wondering what the interview timeline is if my fiancee receives her clearance May 7 from St Lukes? She had to undergo re-tests first of March and was told to contact St. Lukes for her last result May 7th. We are kind of hanging out here waiting with no documents from embassy or USCIS.

Thanks and good luck to everyone.

PhilippinesQuestions about my visit to the Philippines
Hi There,

I know quite a few kind people already replied. I can let you know my experiences as I worked in Cebu City for three years as an Ex Pat. I traveled throughout the Phils in those three years and never had any issues.

Items to note pertaining to your questions:

Airlines have a 3-3-1 policy. If you carry on your luggage you are allowed no more than 3 ounces of liquids. They will confiscate if you have more. You will need to take them out of your carry on when you enter and have them in a zip lock type bag. If you check your luggage you can take whatever you like in liquid form.

Money- They have currency booths. I do not recomend the airport as your exchange rate may not be as good. You will need to exchange a little just to get to and from once in Davao. I had no issues using my ATM card there. I was never ripped off or anything. Once again, you may not get the best rate as you usually lose 1 peso plus a $2 service fee.....

You pay your exit fee when leaving the Philippines. I take it you are staying under the 21 days so just make sure you have your return ticket as they will ask you for the proof you are not going to over-stay.

Keep all your money/wallet in your front pocket. They are good at pick-pocketing. Be aware of anything that causes you to divert your attention. Example a fight or something. These are sometimes staged to create distractions so another person working with them can snatch your wallet.

Make an extra copy or two of your passport. If you are staying in a hotel use your in room safe for your passport. Just keep a copy with you. Trust me I was there 3 years and never was asked for my passport. DO NOT let your fiancee's family keep your passport. I had a buddy that his fiancee's aunt kept it and would not give it back unless he gave her 5k pesos when he left. NOt all are bad just becareful.

Now as for Davao. You are venturing to the island of Mindanao. In the southern end of Mindanao is where the Abu Saif rebels are. If you stay in the Davao area you will be fine. The Mayor there has done a great job of cleaning up the city. It is a nice city BTW. He does not tolerate thiefs and was in trouble by the government at one time for the way he treated repeat law breakers. Enough said there. He wants tourism so you should be safe.

I can say I have riden my Harley all over the Philippines. I was in Manila, Drove myself to Baguio (Northern Luzon) along with Bolhol, Cebu and Boracay. No problems ever. None. Only problem was wrecking my other bike (LOL). I still have scars on my legs.

As you exit Davao there will be a (was) 200p terminal fee and then Manila zaps you with around 1000 pesos. I am sure it went up since I was there just in November.

As for ice and drinking water. NO to tap water unless you are in an expensive restaraunt. I mean so expensive you will say "this is USA prices". Then the water is safe due to foreigners and wealthy filipinos eating there. Ice too. If you are at other places, be cautious and use bottled. Depending on your hotel I would use bottled water to rinse and for your toothbrush. If you are staying at a 4 or 5 star you are good to go. Just don't swallow the tap water.

Tell your doctor where you are going. He can prescribe you meds that will clear you up in 24 hours just in case you eat or drink something bad.

For first timers visting I recomend chicken, fish and pork. It is not impolite to ask them if the beef is local... If local stay away.
You will have a blast.

I would not ride a jeepnee until you feel comfortbable. Taxi's are cheap there for us and safer....... Ask before you get in the taxi if they have a meter working or else you will pay double or triple and make his day. I have gotten out of taxis in Manila as he would not use the meter.

Be patient as the Philippines takes the long way to do everything. God forbide your fiancee want to take you shopping. Mark one day off your calendar if she does.

Has anyone that filed in July noticed any touches after the original receipt? Our 129 is 7 weeks with no touches, Just "received and pending".

Thanks,

You don't really want any touches. Other than letting you know that your petition did not get thrown away, a touch is not such a positive thing. A touch means that someone made an entry in your file and did not approve your petition. That is not what you want. You want your petition to be approved the first time an adjudicator looks at it right?

Here is how the system works. After going through the receipt process where the NOA1 is issued, a petition sits in a box until the adjudicator picks up the box and takes it to his desk. Currently this is taking at least 90 days for most petitions. Eventually the adjudicator pulls your petition out of the box and begins his analysis. If there are no problems or additional research required, 15 minutes later he is finished and you have your NOA2 without a touch ever being recorded!

On the other hand, perhaps he looks at your petition and says; "This is the most screwed up thing I have ever seen. I will need to ask my boss for help as soon as he gets back from vacation. I sure hope he is having fun on that 4 week safari." The petition gets set aside, he logs his action into the computer and you have your first touch. Eventually the boss comes back to work, looks at your file and says; "Well... I think we can process this but I don't like this guy's picture. He looks like the jerk who stole my girlfriend in high school. We better order an extra security check on him. Shouldn't take more than 6 weeks." And there is Touch #2.

Wow! 2 touches!! You are ectastic when you see them during your routine 200 daily status checks on the USCIS website. Don't be. It is not such a good thing.

There are other less negative examples of touches but they are still nothing to cheer about. Anything that causes someone from USCIS to make a note in your computer file will generate a touch. Address changes, typo corrections, reports of missing hard copies of NOA1's, etc. will get you a touch. None of these things mean that your petition is being adjudicated.

So, be happy you do not have any touches. It means that your petition is safe and sound in a box patiently waiting its turn on the adjudicator's desk and its chance at rapid approval.

Follow the huskerkiev link in my signature to see where I learned how the process works. It is very informative and for the most part reassuring.

Best of luck!

I don't know you but you just made my Journey a rememberable one with your humor. Thanks a lot. I needed a laugh along with a big thank you for your very informative help! Thanks to everyone else as well!

Amazing as I just returned from Cebu Monday at 6 am after spending two great weeks with my fiancee. Good luck on round two with interviews and medical.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsShould I be there for interview or not??
Thanks to everyone for their thoughts. Much appreciated. Well if she is not approved with my income level (over poverty level) and I lived in Cebu with her as I was there as an Ex Pat for three years, then I will just hang up ever paying taxes in the USA again and become full time Filipino (laughs). I can eat Lapu Lapu with my eggs for breakfast..... Just can't do the balute "spelling" (half embro egg). Yuck. There is not enough Tanduay or San Miguel in the Phils for me to eat that one!

Cheers everyone and best of luck!

I was wondering what others are doing for interviews. Going through the interview process with them?

MUCH better if you do so.
She will also have a much better chance of picking up the visa at USEM if you are with her.
Hate to say it but it's much better if you are there also if she isn't approved.

It looks like our timelines are similar. Stay in touch as Marnelle may want to travel with you if you are approved at the same time. our email is sbragg71@hotmail.com.......... Good luck!

Now that we have approval from the US side NOA2.... I was wondering what others are doing for interviews. Going through the interview process with them??? I just returned from Cebu as I thought the process was going to take until April or May for final approval which was perfect for my vacation schedule. Now we are approved and await the medical and interview date which I am estimating February (someone please correct me if I am assuming wrong). Our NOA2 was approved November 28th after filing July 18th.

My thoughts are to meet her once she is approved in Vancouver as Philippine Airlines flies through there on the way to Las Vegas. They have a technical stop where passengers stay in Vancouver in a holding area as they do not pass into Canadian Customs unless they are staying in Canada. I figrued I can meet her there and bring her the rest of the way in through Vegas Customs.

Does anyone know anything about Las Vegas Customs? Difficult or easy?

Thanks to all VJers and Good luck to those awaiting there approval!

I agree bad place to discuss.. 200k is way to much for someone with kids.. They should be asking for very little. Not many Thai men will marry a woman with kids!!

If she loves you and wants to be with you. She will stay if there is no dowry.

I have no Dowry.

Her dad just wants someone who loves and will care for his little girl..

And that is me!!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC Number ?? How do i know it?
On the NOA2 there is a number for the NVC call them and give them your case #... Ask if they have your case and if they do get the new number from them and the date they sent off to the embassy!!

Then go to DHL and do like roi_Aggie says below

Goto: www.dhl.com

Select: Track by Reference
Type in Reference: (Depends on Embassy) Use any of the following three keywords:
I-730
EXPEDITE NIV SECTION (Maybe Non-Immigrant Visas)
EXPEDITE IV SECTION (Maybe Immigrant Visas)

Put the range of dates around the date that NVC gives you as package has been shipped.
Look for any of the packages sent to BNK. There is no gaurantee that it will acutally be your package, but if you see a package sent on the date they told you, then it could possilby be yours.

On the date they said they sent mine, I got two "hits". One for the EXPEDITE NIV and one for the EXPEDITE IV, so I assumed one of them was mine!
