Dreckly, drag out the dr at the begining and it means "give me a mininte" Used in a sentence, I will be there dreckly. Another southern tern Translated "ooooooo Bless your heart" meaning "ooooo you son of B" Southerners being polite.Lol.

Well, I have been at Parris Island in August. I grew up in 100 -105 temps with 98 percent humididity. I have had to shoot bugs with a 12 guage and blow when you speak to keep the bugs from coming into your mouth. Sweet Tea is a God Given right and it is why i have a southern accent. lol, The South, Anna will not know what hit her. Southern Food, Southern slang and southern Hummor. I guess i can not imagine living any where else except the deep south.
By the way, I am southern, I throw my beer cans in the back of truck instead of the "floor board" And my moms tattoo is paid for. Yall is used when speaking to a group of people. "Fixin" and Fixing are two different things. If you know this word "Dreckly" you are southern for sure. We have Cricks and Creeks here same thing really and Yes i cook my black eyed peas with a hambone. Yes, we still make home made ice cream. WELCOME TO THE SOUTH.

Anna will have a lot to adjust too here. Maily the temps, food and slang. Not to mention the USA way of life.

Lol, Anna and I have spoke of shooting. She has never fired a weapon. I hope they have not taken those rights away from us before she comes!! We will sent a few down range.

David

Another thing that can be a bit difficult to grasp at first is how big the US is (if coming from a very small country). Doan is from Vietnam and we met another couple in HCMC (Jim and Phuong). Doan asked one day we "can go to visit them", I said "sure but well have to plan a vacation". "Why" she said. "Well", I said, "We live in Erie, PA and they live in San Francisco". "So", she said. When I told her if we drive 8 hours a day it will take a week to get there she didn't believe me

So I got out a map and showed her, the only real option is to fly out and back. If we want to drive I'd have to take the summer off so we can stop and see all the sights on the way out and back!

Imagine back in the old day when you had to ride a horse. Wow! David

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsFun and Interesting things to Do when she or he gets here?

For us it's San Diego Zoo (1st thing she wants to see), then shopping, Sea World, the beach..... then in month or we get married and probably will be hanging out in Disneyland....wish it was Disneyworld, I been there 10 times and love that place, but with all this Visa money out of my pocket ...just can't afford trip to Florida. Disneyland is just a few hours drive north. :)

Yes, I understand. I am lucky i am about 2 hours away from Orlando. So Disney is quick for me. I have several trips for us planned already. Las Vegas, Cancoon, Atlanta and all over Florida. I was in the Marines and my son is a Crew Cheif on HMLA 467. They are in Cheery Pointe. It is a Huey and Cobra Squadron and they have a air show every year. I was thinking it would be cool to run up there and let her see the air show. I have a friend at Barracks 1 in DC. That is the home for the Marines Silent Drill team. They do a night show that will bring tears to your eyes. Truly stunning to see perfection in action. I am working on that for sure.

Anna, really amazed me with her knowlege of the USA. The only thing she did not know was the USA is a Republic. With that being said, what a cool trip to do Washington DC. I worked there for a while and still did not see it all. Would love to go back. Call me selfish i guess, lol.

Best of Luck

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsFun and Interesting things to Do when she or he gets here?

Didn't do to much during the winter while Doan adjusted to the cold, she was pretty amazed by the snow (she is from the South of Vietnam).

More recently we:
1) Took a drive to Cooks National Forest and spent the day walking in the forest.
2) Visited the tiny Erie, PA zoo.
3) Went to Niagra Falls NY for our honeymoon (didn't cross the border!) and visited the little aquarium and the Buffalo Zoo.
4) Taught her how to drive the riding lawn mower  (her feet can barely reach the pedals hehe only 5' tall)
5) Preparing to plant flowers
6) This weekend I'm bowling in a tournament in Dayton Ohio but after I'm done we are going to visit the Cox Arboretum and Butterfly House

Saving some bigger adventures for summer and better weather, like going to Florida or maybe California to visit friends.

We've got a lot of time ahead so no sense rushing things. Looking forward to getting through AOS and AP so we can go back to Vietnam too!

Lol, that is Classic man!!!!! I wish you had a photo of her on the lawn mower!!!! Wow!!! so cool. David

Thanks Guys and Gals for posting. As for me I live in Jacksonville Florida. I am a Southerner and sound like Val Kilmer and Forrest Gump when i speak. The south is full of things to do. Anna wants to go to Alaska and we will but i think that will be next summer. I have a friend that lives there and we will head up there. Personally, I have niot been to Turkey or Odessa. I have seem photos of it and it looks very nice. I have seem many beaches around the world i feel none are better than Sarasota Flordia. We will hang out there for sure. In Athens Georgia they have a bile race in the middle of town every year. The Pros that ride the Tour de France come there and it is a blast to watch. Anna has never sky dived. I have and i told her we would go do that for sure. Anna has never had Mexican food. I was shocked with that. So another thing on the list for sure.

I gave Anna I Nikon D90 camera while i was there and she told me she just wants to travel and take photos. Sure, we can do that. I have spent just so much time preparing for her arrival i am ready to have some fun!!!!! Home, Work, school for her, details of life, you know. I got flamed in another post i made about Anna having shock when she comes here. Yes we skype but, This is the land of dreams and where Anna comes from she only makes 250 dollars a month. Of course I add to that and make her life without stress with cash but, how could not have shock when coming here.

In closing, Keep the ideas flowing. Always cool too hear what the other side things and feels.

Gang, You know we all have a lot of time on our hands and we are thinking. Some times us USA Guys and Gals take for granted what we have around us. It would be cool to get input from the other side of things of what they enjoyed upon coming to the land of dreams. What did the find cool? What do they still wish to go do? What was the strangest thing for them? You guys know what i am speaking of. I have been thinking about it and making plans of things to do from homes to school too going to Disney and the beach. Let it hang out and see where this goes. All the best!

The Damn Cat Tom again!!!!! Anna will travel to Kiev on Sunday and have her Medical on July 12. She has her interview on July 14. Then she will head back to Kirovograd and wait for the visa to come. She would have been there a week in Kiev with cat if they pushed her Visa into a monday like you. For sure now safer for Anna to head back home ir is only a hour and half ride so really not that bad. Just waiting to see how long it takes her to get visa.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsTracking Number for Visa in Kiev

-- Move this to RUB forum to begin with --

No, David, they don't.

They give you a slip of paper when you pay for delivery. It has a tracking number... but I tried calling the number on that piece of paper and it's not a working number.
Also there is no way to track it online.
So you just basically have to sit and wait and guess whether it's going to arrive today or a week from now.
However, usually, the delivery of the visa is pretty fast.

So i guess you pick it up in Kiev at fed ex correct?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHow much Time at JFK as POE
Yes, Anna's interview is on July 14th. She will then travel back to Kirovograd and fly here on July 31st. Her flight leaves Kiev at 1120 ans comes into New Your at 230pm. Her connecting flights leaves for Atlanta at 720pm. I had saw the other that left left JFK at 420 pm but really did not feel great about it and that was my reason for posting. Thanks for all the Information.

Gary, we handle the cat issue. Here is what happen with that. Anna took the cat to local vet there and total cost for shots was 45 dollars. Base from the information from Kiev Vet at airport given to Anna when she call to them she must go back to local vet there in Kirovograd and get certificate and translation and come to airport with in five days of traveling to USA.

That will not be a problem working from the advice of you and others we elected to have her travel back to Kirovograd and get her visa and she would have to do that anyway to meet the requirement for the cat.

Of course we are aware of the "special fee" at Kiev when boarding the plane in the amount of 100 dollars when your paper work is not in order.

Police report in Kirovograd took three days to get with paying the extra 10 dollar fee for faster service.

Spoke to Anna this morning and exchange rate there was 7.93.

Thanks again for all the info.

12 days to hit the 90 day mark for awaiting NOA 2 im a little sad that it seems VSC is jumping all over the place with date ranges from April already. I was under the impression the petitions were worked in the order they were received. I do not have a very common name and no RFE on anything YET????? I have been finger printed many times for work and have reasonable security clearence to enter multi billion dollar chemical refinerys even posess a TWIX card. What the hell can take these ppl so long. I swear if I wait 5 months to find out they lost my petition I am going to SCREEEEEEEEEEEEMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!! and then I will wait some more I guess. US Citizenship General DiscussionHas anyone filed n-400 from Atlanta Georgia?
We live in Atlanta Ga and just received our first NOA after filing N-400 for my husband. I'm just wondering if anyone else here has any idea how long it takes in Georgia. When I checked the processing times it doesn't look too bad but also from experience realize that might not be accurate.

QUOTE (GRANDE CACHORRO @ Oct 1 2008, 07:40 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
If you have a real relationship you do not have to study for answers.

Thats not true. The naturalization test is an actual history/government test just like we did in high school. It has nothing to do with our relationships with our spouses. Thats the interview you are thinking about.
Test and interview are two different things.

Thanks for the replys. Fingerprinting was done in early December. They scheduled that pretty fast after we filed. We didn't realize we had forgotten them until much later than that. I was going over the paperwork and asked him why we still had the photos and thats when we knew what we had done or should I say NOT done. So I guess we will just wait for that yellow envelope.

Anyone have information about this?

I applied for my passport at the local post office and had to send my naturalization certificate off with the application. Today received passport but they didn't return the certificate? Is this normal?

Maybe it is ... but I"m not happy!

I think they should have sent it back to you. As a natural born US citizen I had to send my birth certificate with my passport application
and they sent it back to me with the passport. Your naturalization certificate should be like the equivalent to our birth certificate as far as proving you are a US citizen.
I'd call them and find out why they didn't send it back.

US Citizenship General DiscussionHow much for a U.S. passport at oath ceremony?
You don't get your passport at the oath ceremony. After you get your citizenship and complete the oath ceremony they give you a naturalization certificate. You then have to go to get the paperwork and fill it out and send it in to the passport place to get your passport. Its not part of becoming a citizen. Lots of americans have never had a passport. Here is the website that will tell you everything you need to know about getting a passport.

US Citizenship General DiscussionThree Year living together rule ?????
Ok I'll try to make you understand this with our example. My husband and I have been married, living together, for 5 years BUT he got his greencard 2 years after he got here. So even though we had been together, married living together, for 3 years he could not apply for citizenship UNTIL 90 days before he had his greencard for 3 years.

You must be married 3 years but you can't file until you've had your green card 2 years and 9 months while you have been married 3 years.
3 years married is isn't the only thing you have to consider.

You will have to go to the office. The only number you can call is the 800 number unless someone at the local office gives you a card with their number on it. The local office numbers are not listed.

US Citizenship General DiscussionNovember 2008 Filers
Well our visa and citizenship journey is finally over. The Oath Ceremony in Atlanta Ga. is short and sweet. We were told to be back at 2pm. All the new citizen's were taken into the ceremony room first and processed and given numbers. Then the family was allowed in. We were told we could move around the room and take pictures of our loved ones as they stood and took the Oath and said the pledge of allegience to the flag.
First a woman standing at the podium gave a speech about what it is to be a US Citizen, then she asked them to stand as she called out each country that was represented, then they took their oath and everyone in the room was asked to say the pledge of allegience to the flag.
Afterwards they showed a video of immigrants over the years and played the song "Proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood. After that the family was asked to leave before the certificates were given out. They did leave the doors open so we could see what was happening but no photos were allowed during this part of the ceremony. No names were called out, each person went up according to the number given to them at the begining before family was allowed in. After everyone was finished we were allowed back into the room to take pictures but we were told no pics behind the podium. We didn't go back in because what was the point if we couldn't take a pic of him accepting the certificate. It was a nice ceremony though and a total of 128 people became citizens there today. We hope everyone here has as easy a time as we did today. In Atlanta if you get a morning interview appointment then you will take your oath in the afternoon.
Good luck everyone.

My husband passed his interview this morning and we are going back for the oath ceremony at 2pm. It was so easy, the guy didn't even ask to see anything we were asked to take to the interview. Just asked him 6 questions and had him write a sentence. It was funny when we saw this guy coming out to get people we both said oh he looks like John Mcain. He was a very nice guy.
