K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical exam.. stupid move, dont repeat, heads up to others!

:( my fiance just went and got his medical today.. and we thought that it would be a good idea to get some of his vaccines done at a local clinic cause it would be cheaper.. even though the embassy told us to only get them done at the medical centers they recommend... well just so everyone knows, we were stupid. Our interview date was for the 14th.
But the embassy medical exam doctors wont give my fiance his last immunization shot till the 21st.. so we have to reschedule... of course we should have know better! But I just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who thought that it could be possible to make a short cut.

Now im in the proccess of changing interview dates.. uugghhh it sucks!! :(

what wwere the shots he got done at the clinic???..my fiance did the same thing so i guess when he goes to do the medical tomorrow they're gonna tellhim the same thing..i guess, sucks becuase we were just trying to save some money!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325A Bio Information - Question Re: Applicant's Last Address outside US

I would put the PI as the last address outside the US. I would also start in 1988-89 when you moved back to the US and list where you have lived up to present time, especially if it all fits in the space. IF you moved a lot then start with the present address and go backwards until you hit the 5 year mark. If you still have lines available I would put those addresses on as well. If you really want full disclosure then put all addresses until you get to the PI that way they see the PI and Guam. Just add a paper with the title of the form, your name, and the format of the additional information asked for. Since it was so long ago I would not worry about it too much.

Good luck,

Dave

Thanks, Dave.

I'm going with putting the Philippines as the last address outside the US.

I found on the Dept of Homeland Security that Guam is considered a US Port of Entry. Works for me!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325A Bio Information - Question Re: Applicant's Last Address outside US
Hi all,

I'm a US citizen working on the K1 application for my Norwegian fiancee and I have a question about the G-325A Biographic Information form:

One part of the form asks me to list "Applicant's last address outside the United States of more than 1 year." I lived in Guam from 1997-2000 and the Philippines from 1987-1988. Is my last address outside the US Guam or the Philippines? I know Guam is a territory of the US, but I don't want to screw this up!

Answers, anyone?

Many thanks!

P.S. VisaJourney has been an INVALUABLE resource to me as I'm filling out all this paperwork. Props to EVERYONE who has worked so hard to keep this site going.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLeaving Blanks on Forms
My fiance mailed me his signed G-325A bio form, and I'm getting ready to send in our packet (HOPEFULLY TOMORROW). While going through the application (for the umpteenth time), I noticed that he left a few fields blank on the form.

Under "Current Husband or Wife" he typed "None," but he left "First Name," "Date of Birth," "City/Country of Birth," etc. blank.

He did the same thing for the question that asks for "Last occupation abroad if not shown above." He wrote "N/A" in the first field but left the Occupation and the From/To field blank.

Will this be a problem? Should he have written "n/a" in the other fields? From the USCIS website, it looks like they use scanners to read the forms. Will leaving a blank in a field like this result in an RFE? Should I write n/a in by hand or am I just stressing TOO MUCH?

I know I'm being hyper-paranoid...I just can't stop my mind from automatically jump to the worst-case scenario.

Thanks in advance.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow did you submit pictures with your K1 Visa Application?

it might help if I explain how you package is prepared by USCIS for adjudication. When the package is received, it is put into a file folder with a two prong clip at the top (hole punched). So the adjudicator will thumb through your file by turning pages that are bound at the top. For this reason, it is best to submit everything attached to 8.5X11 paper. If you did submit some thing in envelopes, not worries but to make it easy for the reviewer, it is best to have everything the same size and organized.

Thanks! That DOES help. Is there anywhere on VisaJourney that explains the process our applications go through after they've been received (please excuse the newbie)?

I ended up putting my pictures in photo sleeves. The sleeves are the same size as 8.5x11 sheets of paper and each sleeve holds 2 4x6 pictures. The sleeves are clear on both sides so whoever deals with my application will see the picture as well as the information I posted on the back.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow did you submit pictures with your K1 Visa Application?

We included a lot of pictures of different trips I took to see my faincee in Spain, (Not sure you need that many) but we included at least some from each trip. In the back of the picture we put the same exact thing you did , Thats it , we did not attach any additional papers to the pics. Just make sure you include the cover letter and follow everything else you need to include as the advice here that is what we did.... Let me know any other questions you may have :) Good Luck!

Thank you! I have 1 or 2 from each of our trips together.

I have just begun the process, and just received my email saying they were sending my case to the CSC today, so I don't know how well they were received, but when I did mine, I had boarding passes and itineraries of each time we met, and I included at least one photo of us together from each of these time frames with date and place written on the back. I guess I'll know if I get an RFE whether this is sufficient or not. Keeping my fingers crossed this whole time will be difficult :)

Good Luck

Thanks. I've included boarding passes, itineraries, baggage tickets, and passport stamps from our trips, as well as receipts from his trips to visit me. (When I'm with him he pays for everything, so I don't have receipts from my trips to Norway, unfortunately.)

Did you organize by trip or by document type? In other words, did you include pictures of you together from trip #1 with boarding passes/itineraries from trip #1? Or did you keep all of your pictures together, separate from the travel documents?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow did you submit pictures with your K1 Visa Application?
Hi everyone,

I'm getting ready to send my I-129F form off tomorrow (and I'll readily admit I'm nervous). My question is about how best to include photos that provide evidence of being together. I'm including 10 photos of my fiance and me together over the past 9 months. As of right now, I have all my photos in an envelop, clipped to a paper that explains they are photos that provide proof of my fiance and I being together in the past 2 years. On the back of each photo I've written:

  • our names
  • the date/month/year the photo was taken (on several I couldn't recall the date, so I just wrote the month/year)
  • the place where the photo was taken (restaurant, opera house, hotel, etc.)
  • the city and country where the photo was taken

Is this good enough? Would it be better if I color copied the photos onto a 8x10 piece of paper and labeled the paper instead?

I'd love to know what some of you did.

I'm trying to make this as easy as possible for the person going through my paperwork. I figure the faster someone can ge through my application, the faster my fiance gets his visa (maybe).

Thanks for the help!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures4 Copies of Fiance's G-325 Form - Old Information?

I sent in one copy for me, with original signature, and one copy for my fiance, with original signature. http://www.visajourn...content/k1guide

Then I made sure I had a copy for myself of the entire petition and one for my fiance--just in case either of us was asked for any of the papers I included in the original petition. (They, too, had original signatures.)

One copy is fine.

Thanks to you both!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures4 Copies of Fiance's G-325 Form - Old Information?
This is the LAST question I'll ask tonight, I PROMISE. :innocent: I can only appeal to your sympathies and promise to "pay-it-forward" in the future when I have advice I can offer from my experiences with the K1 process.

I bought a book for the Immigration process called Fiance & Marriage Visas: A Couple's Guide to U.S. Immigration. Its publication date is 2012 and it was written by immigration attorneys, so I would think the info is legit and pretty current. (The book is helpful, but I think I could have found all the info I needed on VisaJourney without shelling out $26)

In one part of the book, it states that I need to include ONE copy of the G-325 form for me and FOUR copies of the G-325 forms for my foreign fiancee. I've looked looked at the info posted on the USCIS website, as well as the guides on VisaJourney, and they seem to say that I only need ONE copy the form for each of us.

Could someone just confirm if this is correct? Do I need to send four copies of the G-325 for my fiance or is the info in the book incorrect/outdated?

Thanks again. I promise I'll stop "leaching" and start contributing once I get further along in the system and have some insights to share.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPOE

Has anyone had experience at this airport with POE. My fiance will be enterig the states through this airport. Anything we should know he's flying in from nigeria on K1 Visa.

Hi, I'm from Atlanta, and in my experience the international airport is a piece of cake to navigate compared to most places. My Norwegian fiance has had no difficulties getting through immigrations or customs the 2 times he's come to visit me. We just filed for our K1 visa today, and he's scheduled to visit me again next Thursday, so we'll see if anything changes.

Here's a pretty good overview from the ATL airport website of where your fiance will go once he lands:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresForm I-129f Birth Certificate question

They changed the form numbers but your documents are still valid proof of citizenship. Google the forms and you'll find lots of references. Example http://travel.state..../first_825.html

On January 3, 2011, the Department of State began issuing a new Consular Report of Birth Abroad (FS-240). You may request multiple copies of this document at any time. As of December 31, 2010 the Certificate of Report of Birth (DS-1350) is no longer issued. All previously issued FS-240 and DS-1350 documents are still valid for proof of identity, citizenship and other legal purposes.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 citizenship question

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding the I-134 affidavit of support question 1.

My future mother in law will be cosponsoring me. She was born on a military base in Japan and has a US birth certificate. How would she answer the citizenship question? Would she say that she is a US citizen through parents? I don't think she has a Certificate of Citizenship though, because she has a US birth certificate. Or would she attach a letter of explanation? I will be getting a copy of her birth certificate, so would she just fill in when and where she was born and attach her BC with the APO#?

I'm hoping someone else has been through this situation.

hello, Im in a similar situation..Im going through the K1 process now and i was born on a military base in japan too.....On the 1-129f form i put citizenship acquired through parents and i checked NO for certificate number and wrote " see birth certificate" right above it)....I plan on picking the option B for question 1 on form 1-134 and giving a copy of my BC..What kind of BC does she have???..DS-1350??...CRBA FS-240??....The birth certificates issued to citizens born abroad state on them that is a birth of a citizen abroad so it basically states your a US citizen... I didnt give an explanation letter which my original paperwork and it was accepted and i dont think i will with the 1-134 since the Birth certificate states their a citizen......i hope this helps some!!!...... ( It was hard to find any info on this myself so i kinda had to figure it out myself even after calling the USCIS)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325A Form for K1-Visa: Include Education?
Also, we are having problems remembering the addresses where we lived in the past 5 years - i.e. "Plot 237 in .....". For example, i lived in Egypt for 3 months, but lived in 2 different residences - but never received postal mail there. I have honestly no idea of the stree of the first place as it was only for 1 month. On my tax forms, I am stated as saying that i lived at my US address during this time. Therefore, do i really need to put my Egypt addresses? Same with the beneficiary. we can't remember for the life of us the address of his apartment in Egypt. can we just put the section of the city, or do we really need to complete the house number?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325A Form for K1-Visa: Include Education?
Thanks for the info. So to confirm, for the interview, will he (the beneficiary) AND I need to provide police clearance reports for all countries we have lived in for more than 1 year? Or is it just him? So the beneficiary here is a Nigeria resident who currently attends school in Ukraine, but also attended school in Egypt where we first met. So, he will obtain a police clearances for all 3 countries since he has lived in each of them for more than 1 year. But what about me (the US citizen)? Do I need to obtain any police clearance reports?

In terms of the employment, because he never worked in these countries, he should not include his schooling under employment. (Weird how it is different when you fill in your customs form when entering the US-ugh).

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat country to Apply in?
Ah, thanks Alla. That is extremely depressing, but I guess that it what we need to hear. Should i just get pregnant:)?

The only problem is that his business is in Nigeria, and he would prefer to go back to Nigeria while waiting for this whole process if it is going to take so long. He is in his final year of school in Ukraine, but can take classes online. So will Nigeria take longer than 8-10 months? Does Ukraine take a shorter period of time than the 8-10 months? Sorry, i can't find where you wrote 2 months (I think it was in response to another one of my desperate posts). But i still don't know what the 2 months referred to.
How often does he need to go back to Ukraine if he decides to relocate to Nigeria? Just once for the interview as he can always have a friend pick up his mail?

Lastly, in Nigeria in early 2011, we became legally engaged, where you sign papers to state that you intend to marry, but there are no legal ramifications. Is this a problem when obtaining a fiancee visa because it was so long ago? We did this at the time because we thought it would assist with a visitor's visa.

So many questions. We appreciate all of your help. After 4 years together, I knew this process would be daunting and that is why i kept putting it off, but with all of the information we receive here, we couldn't be more grateful. Thank you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat country to Apply in?
Thanks. I see the timeline that Visa Journey put together, but the big unclear is the processing times, correct? It is my understanding that this can take 1-6 months. I tried to click on the link but I really do not understand how to go through it. Does the processing time depend on the country of the beneficiary? On average, does anyone know the processing times for Ukraine vs. Nigeria for a K-1? The reason I ask, is because for a visitor's visa, in Abuja, it takes an average of 90 days to obtain an appointment versus 1-2 weeks in Kiev (this is keeping in mind no cancellations).

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat country to Apply in?
My fiancee and I are applying for a K-1 visa. He goes to school in 1 country (and has a 1 year residency visa that is renewed every year), but is a citizen of another. What country should he apply in? The two countries are on 2 different continents, so it is not possible to constantly fly back from one country to another. He can also relocate to his country of citizenship to apply for the visa there, and take classes online. Any advice would be great! When we have applied in the past for visitor's visas, both US embassies in each country have told us that we should be applying in the other country. So any help would be great!

Hello,

My fiance was brought to the US from Mexico illegally by his father, who is now a permanent resident, when he was 12 years old. He has always been in the US since then. Last year he was arrested for criminal trespassing and went to court and was subsequently convicted and given voluntary departure. During the court preceedings he told the judge his situation and the judge did not mention a ban. I filed our I-29f petition in July and My question is, will we have a problem in the interview since he was here illegally as a minor and has a conviction and a voluntary departure?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about a potential SSN
Hello all, I'm seeking the collective wisdom of this forum for a question I have about I-129F and G-325A forms that we are in the process of trying to complete. My fiancee was in the US many years ago on a J-1 visa and believes she applied for a US social security number at the time but never received it and did not end up working for that potential employer so she has no record or confirmation that one was ever even issued. So I'm confused as to what I should enter in the SSN section of these two forms. We are in no way misrepresenting but I'm uncertain as to whether we should leave it blank, say none or unknown? I imagine an unknown raises questions? Is there an easy way for her to find out if she was issued one or can you only do that in person at a SSA office which is not an option for us? I've searched through the boards but can't find anyone with a similar situation. those who asked about it, knew their number and entered it.

Ok thank you all soooooooooooooooo much for this help. You are really helping us understand this process. New question: my boyfriend lives in the Bahamas but is free to travel to the US and stay for up to 6 months at a time. He has a travel visa (I think that is what he called it) so he can come here freely and he does all the time but for like a week since he has work back home. So with that being said does he still have to wait in his country and all that nonesence till he gets the OKAY that he can come here? We dont think so but any advice will help. Also I wanted to get married in the Bahamas, so does that effect anything? Will we have to get married in the States? Hello,

my boyfriend and I have been together for about 3 years now. We met in college and he graduated last December 2011 and had to move back to the Bahamas and began working full time. I am still in school and will be graduating this December 2013, and we plan to get engaged before I graduate and married sometime after. I am starting to put together a scrapbook of everything for our documentation, but what we need to know (I am the American citizen) is when do we need to file the I-129F form. We dont want to be rushed in the 90 days to get married, so should we wait to file that? Also is it wise to get a immigration lawyer? Any help is much appreciated!!!
