IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit for proof of bonafide marriage
Ok so from my understanding, I can have my witnesses type up their understanding on computer paper, sign it then finished?

And can he, my husband, do the same thing there? Just simply have his witness type it, sign it, then finished like that?

Also, let me look at the links you have me ivyanddan.

Thanks!

Do I get an email if my packages have been accepted?

No, not that I have seen. You have to call NVC every day and ask for updates on your case to find out if a package has been reviewed and accepted.

Note: If you're in the EP program, lately people have been getting acceptance emails.

Do I get an email when my case is completed?

Generally, no. Only those doing EP (electronic processing) get the case complete emails. There are some non-EP folk that get case complete emails, but it's rare. Again, to find out if your case is complete, call an operator at NVC and ask.

After the case is completed, what happens?

In most cases: the case is put in a queue to get an interview date scheduled. Once an interview date is scheduled, the case is shipped out to the consulate/embassy.

Who should I be calling to find out my interview date?

You should be calling both NVC and DOS. Both have access to your case information. Their numbers are linked above.

How long does it take to get an interview date after a case complete?

This varies by country and consulate/embassy. Some people find out within a day or two, others a few weeks, then the few unfortunate that wait a few months (ex: Ghana). To get the best estimate for YOUR country is to search, using the timeline feature, when others got case completes and when they got their interview dates scheduled.

When do interview dates get scheduled?

If you talk to operators at NVC, they'll always tell you they ONLY schedule during the second week of each month. This is a LIE. They schedule interviews ALL month long. Many people (like myself) have gotten scheduled during the last week of the month. I repeat, they schedule ALL month long.

How long does it take for NVC to mail my case out after getting an interview date scheduled?

Usually it's the next day, but it can take up to a week or more in rare cases.

Is it possible to get a tracking number for my green card after POE?

Yes it is! Follow VJ member Darnell's advice:

"Call USCIS, get a human, ask for the TRACKING NUMBER on the green card.
Yes, such a thing exists, and they will give it to you when asked.

47 year difference might pose a problem, My cousin met a girl in Jamaica and applied and was denied but I think it was different reasons he was 58 and she was 22.

I think the more evidence you have the better your changes, pictures, bank accounts, living wil, life insurance, ticket stubbs, copy of his passport with stamps to  Jamaica and communication trial.

Good luck, bless up! you will be fine just get prepared.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCR1 Petitioner interview before NOA2?

It depends completely on the individual circumstances of the case. Your case will be subject to increased scrutiny, and the indending immigrant to extra questioning, but there is not an automatic denial.

my husband had interview in local service centre it didnt go well the officer was asking him about his ex wifes address which he didnt know, it has been 29 days but we still didnt recieve any notice about the result.... im worried

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAOS - should I get a joint sponsor?

You should consider getting a joint sponsor but I would not submit the affidavit to NVC. Just have the beneficiary carry it to the Embassy and submit it if needed. If you don't find one, you'll probably be OK anyway but it will depend on the totality of circumstances such as just what kind of job/career etc.

London is not a tough IV unit in financial matters.

It helps that you'll have several more months of employment before the interview.

Isn't the affidavit a requirement for the visa though? Or is that not true? But my husband will be interviewing at the consulate in Melbourne, instead of London; know anything about that one?

Thanks for the help?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAOS - should I get a joint sponsor?
I'm sponsoring my husband to come to the US, but am not sure if I need a joint sponsor. I've lived and worked abroad for the better part of the past three years, so my US tax returns show fairly minimal income. However, I am back working in the States and have been for the past 3 months. My current income more than meets the requirements but will my current income be enough for the AOS to be approved? Or should I consider getting a joint sponsor?

Thanks!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresListing kids not coming with?
I just stumbled across this thread, so apologies if I'm not supposed to write here since its been moved (still learning to navigate my way around here)- this question is going to come up for me and my future husband.. I have three children, all under 5, but they fall under Australias jurisdiction and there is no way I could even hope to bring them to the USA, my ex basically stripped me of my parenting right as soon as I divorced him, so is the fact that I have three kids going to be an issue, even though I am not allowed to financially support them, etc?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureshouse-hold member or not ?
but my wife and her dad used the same address in both of their tax return, so it means that they are living in the same house which is her dad's house, so do you think this is a good proof that she can use him as a house-hold member since they live together (their Tax returns is proof showing the same address.
so what do you think ?

note:
i've read a lot of topics that people used their house-hold members without the need for the financial dependence

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureshouse-hold member or not ?
my wife who is the petinioner doesn't make enough income to sponsor me (she is still student and she works a part-time job).
she was living with her dad for the most last 3 years and she moved to live with her mom for couple months... she moved to live with her mom right after i filled the DS-3032 choice of agent, so i put her mom's address as her current residence (it was about 3 months ago in december 2012)

and now she moved back to her dad's house, so she is living with him now as usual since a week.
so my question is:
her dad who will fill I-864A form as her house-hold member, and the address used in her tax is her dad's one.
she comes to change her address from her mom's one to her dad's one 2 days ago with the NVC.

my question is:
what is the minimum if time for the person to live with a person to be able to use him as a house-hold member ?
so what about my wife's case ? can she use her dad as her house-hold member eventhough she comes to move to live with him ?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPLEASEEE GUYS HELPPP :( :( :(
hey guys,
first of all, thank you guys very much for all your help wich i really appreciated.

well, it's concerning using a co-sponsor or a house-hold member in such case like mine my wife doesn't make enough income since she works a part-time job as a student):

- in the instructions of I-864A they said that the house hod member is: "a relative who has the same address as the sponsor and is related to the sponsor as spouse, adult child, parents, or sibling"

- my wife mentioned in her G-3032 for USCIS that she lived in different address than her dad's one.

- in her tax returns of 3 recent years, she mentioned that she lives in her dad's address.

- her dad doesn't claim her as dependent in his tax return since she is independent financially.

- so the question now is:
*what would be her dad ? a co-sponsor OR a house-hold member ?
*if the answer is "house-hold member": does it matter that she just moved to live with her dad 9days ago only ?

thank you very much guys for your help

Ah, yes. I see what you're looking at now. If the petitioner has had a name change the marriage certificates would track that. You're right. I'm wrong. I'm sorry.

Okay this is the update.

So after speaking to the NVC the last time and was advised to instruct my wife to go back to the registry we married to get another certified copy of marriage. My wife went and i advised to as a matter of fact get two copies, and after some days of the registry people giving her a run around saying they can't locate our name in their records. I advised my wife to give them money and she was charged a hefty amount and MIRACULOUSLY our record showed up.

Very corrupt court officials in Nigeria.

Anyway she sent it via UPS to the US and as an after thought i decided to call NVC to notify them i am about sending them two certified copies of my marriage(one for mom and wife each)only for them to tell me that my case has being decided and that once an interview date is available in the embassy in my country i will receive a letter for my family.

So i am thinking, you guys could not locate my marriage cert the first time, you guys advised me to get other copies, you guys made me spend all this money and you guys are saying you don't need it any more?

So the NVC person was like your mom has to bring a certified copy of the marriage cert with her to the interview though. So its another money i have to spend sending the marriage certificate via courier back to my mom.

Anyway, after this what is the next step?for those that have gone through this process before.

So when an interview date is sent to me when will they go for medicals?

Will really appreciate guidance from the HOUSE so i don't make mistakes again.

Wish i knew about this room before i started my process.

Thank you all.

The OP clearly stated that he is dealing with NVC, so both cases are in one office but are not joined. It is beyond me why NVC would want an original of the couple's marriage certificate in the case file for the Mother. I expect there's a communication problem of some sort.

To the OP, every letter NVC sends about the civil documents will have a reference to the website that details which documents are needed. If you send a package and something is missing, they'll send you a Checklist cover letter detailing anything they consider to be missing. I expect they want a certified copy of the marriage certificate for your Mother and Father, not another for you and your wife. You might want to call them and clarify that.

Thanks for the answers everybody and i really appreciate it.

Will call them now to clarify that.

Hello Room,

I don't know if this is the right section for me to put this but i will appreciate answers thanks.

I am an American citizen and i applied for permanent residency for both wife and mom in Nigeria.

Everything was going okay until it got to the NVC. waited for a letter from them informing me on what documents to send and never got it except the one telling me to send them my documents(which documents was never mentioned),so asked a friend who had gone through the same process before.

Sent them the documents and added(as advised by my friend)my marriage certificate in my moms folder.

Now the NVC is asking me for the same marriage certificate not only for my wife but my mom too and that got me confused. Told them its in my moms package and they said i should have included it in my wife's package and that they will look for it.

Its being months now and still they are given me the run around. Just told my wife to go back to the registry we had the marriage to get two certified copies of the marriage certs again so i can send to them.

Anybody ever gone through a situation like this before?how difficult would it be if this NVC people just open my mom's folder to get the certificate out?

Thanks for your response.

Is there a time / period required to be classified US Domicile? like a couple of months etc? Or just going there and renting an apartment etc would be adequate?

My assets are all currently in Pakistan. I intend to liquidate them and move to US and buy a house etc.

Regards

Your wife needs a US Domicile.

Theoretically you can use assets, can they be shown to be easily liquidated, where are they?

Thanks for the response.

I dont want to get around the police certificates. But just because it takes time, is it possible to submit DS230 without it, and then show the certificates at the time of the interview?

And does the joint sponsor has to be family / related? I have a good friend in Atlanta and I intend to go there initially. Can he give me the affidavit? Does he need to submit it directly to NVC or he has to send it me?

Regards

you need the police clearance certificates for every country you have lived in for greater than 6 months since you turned the age of 16, no exceptions. Your wife must file an affidavit of support, there is no way to "get around it" if she doesn't meet the minimum income requirements, she can get a joint sponsor. There are guides at the top of the page that can help you out. I hope the separation from your family is minimal. Good luck with your journey!!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresProcess from Pakistan
Hello all

I am married for 17 years now and have 3 children, living in Karachi. My wife and kids are all US Citizens. I never applied for US immigration before.
But life in Pakistan is becoming very difficult, with law and order, also economy is a mess.

Last June, my wife went to US Embassy Islamabad to file I-130 for myself. We didnt hear anything for a long while. Calls and emails to US Embassy werent being answered etc. Anyway last week got an email from Islamabad with Family 3.5 packet which asks for submission of DS-230 plus police certificates etc.
US Embassy doesnt entertain phone calls for immigration visas, hence would be grateful for your help.

1) How do I know my case / reference number?

2) Police certificates are taking long as I lived in UAE, Saudi, and UK in the past. Is it possible to submit DS-230 without the police certificates?

3) My wife and kids are here with me in Karachi. I hear that they need to go to US before I start my application process as visas are to unite families so we need to separate first :(

4) I am the family breadwinner, my wife has no income etc. How do we get around the Affadavit of Support? Is it enough to show assets rather than income?

Thanks for all your help.
