Which number is the visa number in the visa sticker in the passport? Is it the RED one on the bottom right? Or is it the number below the IV case number?

Yes the one written in RED is the visa number.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresno interview until january!
QUOTE (davidaustralia @ Sep 14 2007, 10:52 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi I have just sent my ds 2001 to the sydney consulate. I emailed them and they told me that they were scheduling interviews for the month of january 2008! and that they shall let me know when my interview will be. I thought sydney was faster! So It looks like several months without the wife! Has anybody else had this with sydney or put in their ds 2001 recently and have been scheduled a interview sooner? Thanks

Wow! I am sorry to hear about the delay in Australia. I submitted my DS-230 in July. Jamaica has a wait of 2-3 months for K-3 filers to receive an interview. Hopefully, you will get through way before January. Please do not allow this immigration process to cause any tension between you and your wife. If any thing, this ordeal should bring you two closer. Take care.

QUOTE (Vin75 @ Sep 15 2007, 04:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I just received my IV bill. I discovered the waiting time for an interview for an I-130 out of Montreal could take up to 6 months because they are so shortstaffed in the embassy in Montreal.

My I -129 is on it's way to Vancouver and they're waiting time seems to be a few days for an interview. In light of this should I abondon the I-130 process is there any benefit in letting it continue?

Based on your time line, it seems like you filed a CR-1 not a K-3 petition? At any rate, a CR-1 & K-3 can be filed simultaneously? If one visa goes through before the other, you would simply forfeit the fee.

My case completed October 26, still no interview date. I have called almost everyday this week, NOTHING!!! I called department of state and was told that Kingston is so backed up that it is taking close to six months once the case get tot he embassy. I really dont believe it when someone on here has an interview date for January with case complete a a couple weeks before mine. I have asked if it is undergoing some additional review, NO. if something is wrong, NO. I can not figure out what it could be. Anythoughts. Also how many people going through Jamaica have January interviews, because I am beginning to wonder if its just our case.

thanks

The scheduling of interview for K-3 filers is done at the Embassy, On the other hand, the NVC arranges the CR-1/IR-1 interviews. Had I not contacted Senator Isakson's office, I would still be waiting for an interview. Is 202-663-1225 the number that you are calling? I agree with Jomo's girl. Please don't try to figure out this process. It will drive you nuts!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVisa Granted!
QUOTE (severinep @ Jan 4 2008, 08:57 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Voilà, our journey is over. My IR-1 visa (immigrant visa) was granted yesterday.

My appointment was at 1pm at the US embassy in Paris. We showed up at 12:15 pm and they didn't want to let us in so we came back at 1pm, time of the appointment.
After 10 mins, I had to give my letter of appointment to someone. I was called again and this time, she shecked my documents and asked for my medical. Asked a few questions like "When are you coming to the USA?". I answered I didn't know exactly. I was caught off guard as I can't go to the US if I don't have the visa. She told me I had 6 month to enter the US and to go sit down, the officer would call me for my interview.

By the time I was called, it was 4pm already and she just asked where I was going to live in the US (whate State) and where was my husband and that was it, she said congratulations, you'll get your visa in 7 days, don't open the sealed enveloppe we will give you bla bla bla bla...

It took less than 20 mins for everything. The wait lasted for 3 hours though.

Some tips: it wasn't mentioned anywhere that I had to bring en enveloppe (Fedex, DHL...) so I had to go to the post office and send it to the US embassy.
My husband had to scan the appointment letter he received or I was unable to do my medical on time. I received my appointment letter 1 week exactly before the interview and during that week, you had Christmas day and New Year's day. With doctors on vacation, I would have never had the time to do all this on time.

Good luck to everyone! It was way easier than I thought!

Congratulations! Welcome to the United States of America. kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

would like to ask , whats the difference between hiring a lawyer for cr1/cr2 application or do-it-myself thing..
aside from paying extremely expensive fees to the lawyer, can they make the process faster?

hope members here can give me their ideas.

thanks a lot

Larry,
Please save your money. I wasted money on an attorney. VJ has pertinent information to guide you through the process. There is no such thing as a dumb question. When in doubt, post your question. Using a lawyer will not expedite the process. I agree with YuandDan, go for the CR-1 Visa. Upon approval, you will not have to file any additional paperwork for two years. Good luck!

Woke up and there it was, our I-130 was approved , a day to truly give thanks. I hope more of you rec'd the same late present we got. Email showed up at 11:15 last night. 71 days of waiting over, I had to tell someone, my wife is not home and too early here in the west to call anyone. Last night when I got home I had noticed that they touched our case but no update on the status. I was optimistic but.......well you all know how much or little this can mean. Excited but with cautious optimism. And today.........damn, I just want to cry, I haven't been so happy since my wedding day, or night. Everyone, wish all a safe and Happy Thanksgiving, I know today will forever be a day with special meaning for us.

Thanks for all the help from everyone. I couldn't do this think without you!!!

Both my I-130 and I-129 were approved on the same day 11/22/06

I left Q C.22 completely blank. I doesn't to apply to my case because my spouse in NOT in the US.

OskaryAndrea,

How did you answer Q C.22 on your I-130? Read the question again, carefully. It appears that USCIS is taking it literally.

Yodrak

Ok...this is what my I-130 says: The above petition has been approved. The petition indicates that the person for whom you are petitioning is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status. He should contact the local INS office to obtain Form I-485.... If the beneficiary decides to apply for a visa outside the US based on this petition, the petitioner should file FORM I-824, Application for Action on an Approved Application or Petition, with this office to request that we send the petition to the Department of State National Visa Center.

I though they would forward this automatically to the NVC??? There is nothing in my cover letter nor I-130 application that indicates my spouse has EVER been inside the US. ....

Also, why would we prefer to pay for a trip to Bogota for an interview on the I-130 (we're also approved for the K3) instead of just filing for a AOS? What is the advantage to doing this?

Brad, did Vickie recieve her Package 4 yet? If so, it should list the specific requirements there. For the K3 Spouse Visa, the Carta Migratoria is REQUIRED. I would assume it would be the same for a CR1 visa. You can call the embassy TODAY from 2-4pm for free and inquire. I would do this if I were you!!!

Good luck.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI-824 - Application for Action on Approved Petition
Today I sent my I-824 for action on an approved I-130 petition for my husband. I'd like to see how many other VJers are in this process and maybe keep up with the progress of each on this thread. If you've already submitted your I-824, please respond with your date and keep the VJ community informed. This is a new requirement (Oct 06) for those with approved K3 and I-130 applications, so there is limited information on the Forum.

If someone knows how to start a timeline for us on this thread...please feel free to add it with some instrucctions.

Thanks,

Dre

My husband's visa was "denied" in February. I'm working with Scott Mossman in California. Because immigration is a federal case, any attorney can represent you. Scott specializes in denials of family based petitions and is reasonable in his price. His web site is www.mossmanlaw.com. If this doesn't work, google him under Scott Mossman Immigration Attorney.

Best of luck, I know EXACTLY how you feel.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMy wife is about to lose her mind!!!

Thank you Soojung for your post! I know that we're almost finished. I'm the passive/patient type, while she's the aggressive/short fuse type.   t^_^ '

She says to me that it's a waste of money since I'm not with her. hahaha....

That is true. :) She would not be happy without you. :(

I traveled some places in Korea, and especially I did not live in Seoul, I liked to go there-- touring the places, going some markets, and buying presents for the families, etc. I hope everything is well to you and your wife. :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMy wife is about to lose her mind!!!

I did not apply for a spouse visa, but I totally understand how she feels. while I waited for my visa, I kept saying bad things about the future to my husband who was back to America, and I was also very negative. I know there is not much you can do, but you should keep encouraging her, talking with her about your wonderful future together as much as you could (not about the visa!!!).

While she stays in Korea, she should make herself busy. I think that is the best way! For me, I signed up for some language classes and cooking class. She also could take short trips during the weekends.

I know it is really difficult to both of you. Waiting for the visa is a pain in the ###....  But it is almost over! Keep stay positive and busy. I wish you the best!
