Were there any tricky questions or was it straightforward? How long was the interview?

how many times have i been to see her,and 2 more i do not remember....i just got off a double shift, the whole thing was about 10 minutes.i will reply back what they are later, but thank you all,now we take a brief breath of air before the second part of this journey we are on

I offer my congratulations too!

I also look forward to the questions/answers.

And if I may be so bold... My SO starts to get very worried because she knows a woman who was denied a visa 'because of salary' of the American husband (not sure if it was k3 or cr1) He apparently made 20k, 20k, 30-34k last 3 years and was told it was not enough, even though it was 125% of poverty level. I've made over 30k for the last 3 years. I am trying to find some recent 'success stories' on the visa front and if your SO or someone else's SO who has received a k1 visa would be willing to email with my SO and answer some of her questions on the Russian-fiancee/wife side of things, it would be greatly appreciated.
PM me if this could be possible.

And thanks again to all on this forum for answering many of my questions!

i am in the 30 k range,it should be no problem, there must have been something more.i know you have to hit 21k to his 125%of poverty level,so that might be problem.is she on the russian forum in her country,i can give her marinas url,if they do not already know each other.....lolololol

sweetie wants dual citizenship......where does one begin with that,or if the us does not reckognize it,how can she be citizen of both?and thank you i thought she meant dual citizenship....but she said opur friend has 2 citizenships

This is very simple. If she is a Russian citizen now and has her international Russian passport, then she has one half covered. She will just have to renew that Russian passport when applicable.

Then for the other half, she immigrates to the US, gets the Green Card, stays married for the required number of years (or stays the other number of years if not married) and then submits her paperwork for US naturalization. Once she is approved and takes the oath, then she, that same day, can apply for the US passport.

When she obtains the US Passport, she can hold the Russian passport in one hand and the US passport in the other.

Then by magic, she is automatically a dual citizen!

She can use her Russian passport to enter into Russia and the US passport to re-enter in to the US.

thank you,now it makes sense,on how to obtain 2 citizenships...thank you all.i go and pick her up in 2 weeks,

gentleman and ladies i hope someone can help here,i have a friend who has citizenships in russia and the us,he has worked in moscow for the last 2 years,so he did not pay his u.s. taxes,he is back here in the states, and wants to bring his fiancie here on the k1.can he do without showing w-2's for the last 2 years.any advice will be greatly appreciated.

He is probably OK. He needs to file returns. BUT if the income was earned in a foreign country and he paid tax in a foreign country he will get credit for the tax he paid, so it is unikely he would OWE and tax. He does OWE them a tax return. Google 1040/2008 and 1040/2007 for the forms. If no tax is owed there is no penalty. He will have to attach his Russian tax returns if he wants to claim credit for taxes paid.

By the way, in the US there is no such thing as "dual citizenship" The United States considers US citizens as that and nothing else. It makes no recognition of foreign citizenship, nor is it prohibitied. It is a non-issue for the USA.

Phil,

So sorry to hear of your delay. I am confident this is a delay, not a major roadblock. Delays are tough, I know firsthand. The evidence they are requesting will be easy to produce, and they will see that you are a committed couple. Thanks for posting this - it is prompting me to shore up and update our evidence.

yes, the lady might have been in a bad mood to begin with,i agree that this is not a major roadblock, and stay strong.we are all with you!

This is true in Charles DeGaulle in Paris, for instance.

If you (USC) happen to transit through CDG, try to get a long layover. You can take the bus from the airport for like $8 or something straight to downtown Paris. Another $4 or so and you're on the local buses from the Arc d' Triumph to the Eiffel Tower to Notre Dame. Add $5 and you've got yourself a Royale with cheese and a beer. And I aint talkin no paper cup... I'm talking a real beer.

I got to see Paris for about $20.

i got a twelve hour layover in heathrow, and yes,i am jumping a train for down town for a few hours.......whoooo-hooooo good.gif

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusJust got back - The report part 1

I can identify exactly with that experience with the taxi. The first time there, I was also completely beat from the trip, disoriented, and unable to do simple arithmetic in my head. I think they count on it. I was easy prey for those jackals. On subsequent trips, I have ignored them and made my way by public bus for a tiny fraction of the cost. There is no shame in blowing an absurd amount of money on that taxi ride between terminals. I think it is like a rite of passage

I was also amused at their style of forming a big horde pushing to get onto the plane instead of a queue -- a triangle just like you say!

I have never been detained and have never carried an invitation letter with me. A valid passport and visa, and the slip of paper they give you when you go through immigration, are all you need to make your domestic transfer. I do not have enough language skill to try to attempt a bribe of any kind, so I would have done just as you did.

Looking forward to the next installment . . .

i love the taxis in russia...these people have bad driving down to an art, next time just sit back and enjoy the ride, they have been doing it for so long they know how to drive like ####### and survive...imagine it like .....mr toads wild ride for real.last time i was there i didn't even flinch when they crossed into the oncoming lane, nor winced when the they squeezed the car in between other cars jockying for position,i want to take some friends on a tour of moscow in one,and video them freaking out on the ride as i am showing them all the sights.

Russia, Ukraine and Belaruspre aos question

Correct, there is no "deadline" per se. to file the AOS, only to get married. It is best to file everything ASAP for a number of reasons, not least of which is that the medical exam must be within one year of filing for AOS to be valid (and save you hundreds of dollars for a new medical) and to get your wife's green card so she can work, travel or (in some states) get a driver's license, among other things (student loans, for example)

Filing AOS should be one of those prioroty things in life, not because of a deadline, but because it is the best $1000 you will ever invest and the sooner you do it the sooner she gets the benefits of being an LPR

thank you all,we are not going to daddle with it,we are getting married on feb 14th in florida, and wil lfile soon after....about a month,i was just wondering since the initial 90 days will have passed.and don't want immigration

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusAOS Approved

Finally had our interview at the Dallas office. It took forever to actually get into the interview room, but once there it was a pretty simple process. The woman going through all the documents to make sure everything was there. And then she did some fact checking of what we had in our documents. "What's your social security number?" "What's your address?" "Phone number?" etc.

She only asked for the most basic of evidence. In spite of us having brought a stack of copies and originals and photography, she just glanced over our bank statements and wanted to see our marriage certificate. She checked our IDs, and took back Ira's employment authorization card.

Then she said, "And now I'm going to ask you some personal questions." At this point, I figured we were going to get into the horror story territory, but the questions were ridiculously impersonal. "Are you a terrorist or affiliated with any terrorist organization?" "Are you now or have you ever been a member of a communist party or organization?" etc. She didn't ask a single question that I would consider in any way invasive.

In the end we got approved for a 2-year Green Card (if we'd waited until the end of June, we could have gotten the 10-year card right then and there). It'll take 4-6 weeks to arrive in the mail.

congratulations to you both,we are about ready to file for aos now.
