Middle East and North AfricaNew members going thru Jordan
Hi,

I'm Irene from Atlanta, GA and my husband is Tawfiq from Rusaifah in Jordan. We married in February 2006 and Tawfiq arrived here in May 2007. We applied to have his conditions removed in February 2009 and hopefully he will receive his 10 year green card soon.

I am a residential manager at an addiction treatment center for women. My husband has been working with the US Army in Iraq for the past year as a translator; professionally he is a teacher. He is currently here with me on vacation. We traveled to Egypt in February to visit his 25 year old son. I have 4 adult children and 3 grands; my husband has one adult son.

We are enjoying a very happy life together and give thanks to Allah for being so merciful to us. We wish the best to all VJ members.

kicking.gif kicking.gif OMG! I am still in shock...a few months back my BIL (19 yrs old) in Egypt applied for a visitor VISA with my MIL but was denied. She was approved for a 5 year. We figured the reason...young male, ME backround, no ties, etc.

Today my SIL (married/24 with a son), the same BIL (19 yrs) and nephew (4 yrs) had their interviews. They were taken together and the male that interviewed them was very nice. He looked at all their proof, pictures together, my info and hubbys plus babies pics, etc. However, at the end he said SORRY YOU ARE DENIED. My SIL was so upset...she started to get angry with him stating, WHY? Tell me how you can deny me to see my family, twin neice/nephew and brother. If you deny me now, I will not see them for 5 years. Are you kidding me?!? You're denying our family the right to see eachother, what is your reason?!? I want to talk with your supervisor, please this is my family and its just not right. I must see my neice/nephew now...I can not wait till they are grown up. It's hard enough just staring at a webcam. We cry to hold them just one time. Please I want to see your supervisor. He called another man over and they told her, okay, listen fill out another the application again, this time instead of visiting for 6 months (which they had put on the form as my MIL did last year) put down 2 months. We will approve you.

So it took her 2 hours to fill out all three forms (BIL, SIL and Nephew) but she did it! The supervisor took their passports, said congrats, you are approved! You will get them back in about 3 to 5 days.

They called us screaming at 4am blink.gif But well worth the screams! WE ARE DANCING!!! Our entire family is actually coming from Egypt now (minus one brother in the military). Hamdulillah!!!!!!!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif

Alhamdullilah! Congratulations! We are so happy for you!

We would also like to invite our family to visit from Egypt. My husband has been here since May 2007. My 25 year old stepson is dying to visit us here. Can you give us some insight or some suggestions on what to say to help get his visit visa?

How long did it take for them to get the interview after filing the forms? Should he apply at the American consulate in Cario? What forms should he fill out?

Any help you can give us would be appreciated.

Middle East and North AfricaA few cultural questions
We found the bidet at the Mediterranean halal grocery store. It cost about $35.00 and my husband hooked it up to the toilet. The water is a little cold for me so next time we'll try to invest in one with the thermostat for temp control.

lol@butt-sprayer  If ya don't have one be prepared for him to hang his #### in the bathtub for a quick 'shower'

Get the watering can if you cant find the bidet.

Please, if you can advise me...
did you employ the service of a lawyer?
how long did it take in all?
will a Lawyer make it any faster?

we had just sent off our application and we fear it might take long bearing in mind we had hoped to be both at a Graduation Ceremony in June after getting married. we really wished everything worked out by June.
wishes :(

Hi not sure which country your SO is from but I suggest you go to that forum and see what the timelines look like for various members. It varies so much for everyone but June is about 4 months away....my advice is not not make any definite plans until Visa is in hand...trust me I had to move my wedding date for that very reason.

Best wishes to you! VJ is a great place to get great advice. I didn't use a lawyer at all...I honestly don't believe it speeds up your application any faster if you do use one. Just make sure you submit all your documents the first go round so no RFE and you should be fine!

Good luck!

I agree, times vary! It took us about 8 months as well from start to finish. I would advise to continue checking others timelines and seeing what their progress have been. During the time we were waiting for our approval of our K-1 we were making sure we had all documents that were required and needed so that there would not be anything we didn't have at the interview. Use this time to enjoy your SO and learning more about each other. VJ is a great forum to get support and information to guide you along! It's definitely not an easy and quick process but its so worth it!

Hey Guys!

Long time, no post - sorry I have been hanging out on the Aussie threads lately

Good to see so many of us May Filers progressing!

Update for me - I had the interview last week and got approved smile.gif The visa came today with that mysterious brown envelope.
I am so happy and relieved. kicking.gif

I booked my flight back to New Orleans for December 26th so I can have Christmas Day with my family and also have my first New Years Eve with Brian. It will be our first New Years kiss! Also I will be with him for his birthday, which is something else we have been apart for every year of our relationship.

We have booked the wedding for February 20th, at the House of Blues New Orleans. I am so excited about it. I just have to work out the easiest way to get my dress to the states wacko.gif (You can imagine how happy it makes me to have that as my biggest worry now! Seems like a walk in the park after the whole visa process)

Also, Brian is coming to visit me in 2 days! It's been 4 months since I last saw him so I really can't wait.

Life is good right now smile.gif

I hope all your journeys have been smooth. Goodluck to those awaiting interviews soon good.gif

Congratulations! Now onto the new journey in your life. So happy for you. Please keep us posted.

I am glad that many are doing good for the May Filers of 2009. I am getting ready to go to China next week for 3 weeks, see My Xixi, get married, and start with the 130 process. The May to Dec K1 was a long wait, and denial, but we just have to endure. It took me a while to figure what the miscomunication was with the December Interview. The Visa Officer ask about my prior job from 1966 to 1994, which my Xixi answered, "Sales". I was a surpervisor/diemaker, for a company that made "Sales" posters/materials. I had shown my Xixi examples of posters, typical of what the company made, when we out shopping, so she was well aware of what I did for a living. I believe what the Visa Officer wanted to hear was, "supervisor".

Definitely wishing the both of you the best! Please keep us posted!

oh wow great to hear that everyone is doing great!! i just got my NOA1 for my AOS, EAD and AP today.. so excited!! i cant wait to get my life started here. my husband works at the oil rig here in alaska and he stays at work for 2 weeks and is home for 2 weeks straight. i am glad i didnt get any RFE (at least not yet, hopefully not ever!) but yeah, things are looking good from here.

I bet the Visa Officer does not know what a diemaker is also. 20 months of preparation gone in a couple of minutes. This means have do another trip, file 1-130, and wait another year. We got a 221g and just been so bummed about it. If all goes well we will be submitting all the documents on the 28th and then praying he gets his visa. This process has emotionally drained me, and if its not one RFE after another.

Merne - Good to see you back smile.gif Congrats on your new place. I hope you are all settled in. Thank you for keeping me in your prayers and please pray for us that my SO gets his visa soon so we can be together shortly. They request a religious divorce decree now and will be sent to us by next week. But, I hope after that everything will go smoothly.
