Hi all,

I went to GA DMV (http://www.dds.ga.go...ons.aspx?csc=37) for my driver license renewal, I shown the NOA letter with my expiring conditional residence card(expire in May 2008). They did not understand it at first, but talked with other officials and issued the license for one year. I think it depends on the mood of that official in that particular office.

My experience with Atlanta Local Office: I went there to get stamp on my passport, they did not give me one and told me it’s not necessary.

Hi All,

I applied my I-751 to TSC some time in Feb and got NOA dated 02/27/2007. Today i called Customer Support to find my status and told them my application passed over 6 months period as mentioned in TSC time lines.

She said that she is going to send a request to TSC, to find whats going on. And TSC is required to respond in next 45 days.

Lets see what happens.

Hi,

I got Card Production ordered email, on April 10th and got same email on April 11th.

On April 15th another email saying that "Approval notice sent". This is my current status, but i am hoping the card in mail any time.

i don't know about other people, who recently got approvals.

QUOTE (Gulskjegg @ Apr 16 2008, 03:07 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
On April 10th, the USCIS online status said "Card Ordered to be Produced, contact us in 30 days if you dont get the card", just like yours.

But! Now the online USCIS has changed to "Approval Notice Sent", because we got an approval notice yesterday.

For God's sake, I WISH I had taken a screen shot of that "card ordered" page, because now I have no proof it was ordered. I just called the USCIS customer service line and they said they cant go back and check previous updates.

I have a bad feeling the USCIS made a mistake in telling me my card was ordered.

Has anyone else gotten an update of "card ordered", but never actually gotten the card? Sounds odd, but this IS the USCIS were talking about. They seem to derive great pleasure from yanking our collective chain.

Hi All,

I am tired of this waiting game. As my 3 year Conditional Permanent resident will be finished some time in May....i am preparing my N-400 form to apply for Naturalization. I will be mailing this application tomorrow.

I wish i have other choice, other than applying to TSC.

I posted new topic under "US Citizenship General Discussion" section, about my concerns on this application (http://www.visajourn...howtopic=114382), anyone's comments are welcome.

Is any one from this thread applying for Naturalization ?

Im not even sure the age the "draft" ends at, some said at the age of 40??? I'm to lazy to look it up at the selective service web page, lol

male citizens/nationals who are from 18 & less than 26 years of age

Ya thats for registering for the draft, but I thought there was a maximum age they could still call you up. I may be wrong

Yea like I said for service members that maximum is 60

Yes, 60 for service members, but what about the General public?? Maybe it is just 26, but thought I read somewhere else that it was around mid to late 30's??? Looked briefly on the SS page, but didnt find anything

Men age 18-26 must register with the selective service, but since the draft isn't being utilized I don't know how long someone stays on the list.

When my husband signed up, he was aware of the stop-loss on his contract with the military. I cannot remember how long it was for, but he knew for a certain # of years that he could get called back into service once he was formally "out". Never happened, but he was aware of it.

Thank you, Catty. That is all I needed/wanted to know.

They can recall service members until age 60... I deployed to Iraq with several people in their mid to late 50's who hadn't worn a uniform in 10+ years. I know for a fact that the only way an officer can be exempted is if he/she resigns their commission (which again must be approved). I'm not sure about enlisted members but most of the individuals in their 50's I just mentioned were enlisted.

I recall when I was in Iraq we watched one of those zombie movies from a few years ago & we joked that the guys replacing us would be zombies!

I agree with thetreble too. If there was a draft I might feel differently but she volunteered.

Also, aren't deserters criminals? Canada would send home most other criminals that tried to escape US law by crossing the border. Why would deserters be treated differently?

~ Catherine
The fact that the military decided to drop the deserters cold-turkey after they failed to return may have removed the technicality (and crime) of desertion--as well as any credibility of their cases.

I would tend to think this is an untrue statement. The military rarely actively seeks to find deserters. Usually a deserter's name simply goes in that national crime database & if he is ever stopped by the police (e.g. traffic ticket) they pull up his status (pretty much like an open warrant) and then arrest him. There have been cases with Vietnam era deserters being picked up this way 30-40 years after the fact.

My brother in-law joined the Marines in 1996 and signed up for a 6 year tour. At the end of that tour, he was going to leave the military, and propose to my sister and lead a private life. The government didn't see it that way. He signed a contract for 6 years, and 6 years only, however, the government decided that he was needed and was basically force fed a new enlistment. That doesn't seem fair to me. I signed an employment contract for 3 years, and after those 3 years, I can re-negotiate the terms, or find employment elsewhere. I cannot be forced to work at this same job if I don't want to. Why is it that the government can do that to it's soldiers?

I don't think the Stop Loss procedure is fair, but if you are in the military, your options for redress are very limited. You either do as your told, or you face the harsh reality of bucking the system.

Well for one there is often a catch... I don't know the rules for Marines but for example in the Army an officer is obligated for 8 years. An officer may do a 4 your tour & think he's done, but he isn't. In fact an officer's commitment is essentially indefinite & the only way to be completely out is to resign your commission. Even then the Army can (and often does) disapprove the resignation, so to say it's an all-volunteer Army is simply untrue.

However desertion is a different matter altogether & yes it's a criminal act (basically the military version of a felony). Often what happens is that they get a deserter on a lesser charge of "missing movement" & administratively discharge the individual with a Less Than Honorable discharge (which isn't as bad as a Dishonorable discharge but worse than a General discharge).

I'm in the military as well & don't have a whole lot of sympathy for deserters (it's an all volunteer Army & they signed a contract). On a personal level I totally disagree with going to war with Iraq but when I was called I went.

Well I think every one has given a lot of good suggestions. Honestly though, I have heard of employment agencies being very helpful to many people I know. It seems a little off to me that three different agencies all "sucked".

If you are qualified you will eventually get a position somewhere.

Good luck.

Yup, Google ACT1 or AppleOne, MANY out there screwing people over...MANY reviews on there...I'm now VERY sceptical...please remember, this wasn't all about finding a job but about EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION...that's what I was asking VJ members about...

Thanks...

Well as I stated (IMO) I don't see employment discrimination. I see a tough job market & the added hurdle of not being a US citizen. I know you are frustrated, but everyone was trying to be helpful when they responded.

CanadaEmployment Discrimination in the US
I skipped a few pages so this may have been said already, but I think that in the vast majority of cases you aren't dealing with discrimination... you are dealing with reality. As you stated the economy is very weak right now & a lot of people are looking for work. With that being said it's human nature (and perfectly acceptable) for an employer to chose an equally qualified citizen over a non-citizen. Weak economy + non-citizen = a steep hill to climb in finding a job.

My newlywed wife will be looking for a job in a few months & what I am telling her is start out with modest expectations (I will also get her into some college courses). Like many have said temp jobs may be a viable alternative & we will consider them as well. Good luck!

CanadaFrustration towards marriage -- any help, opinions, relief?
QUOTE (Sam and Ben @ May 20 2009, 07:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
He assured me this wasn't the case... But I worry that deep down this is the issue. And whether or not, as trailmix said, he was just being honest with his frustration over the process itself, and our inability to face things in their 'normal' progression... I should definitely have a talk with him and figure out where his head is at.

The process sucks & I was mad as hell at USCIS for what they put my fiancee & I through, but I always saw it as us vs. them. Its impossible for me to judge whether or not his feelings stem purely from frustration or perhaps other factors are involved.

CanadaFrustration towards marriage -- any help, opinions, relief?
I learned (the hard way in a previous marriage) that small problems are magnified once you marry, so think very carefully before you leap into marriage. If he feels "forced" into marriage too soon he may resent you for it... perhaps not knowingly & not for any valid reason, but he might. Have a long talk with him about this & find out what he's really thinking.

We do things all the time that we don't want to do, but have to do. Marriage SHOULD NOT be in this category.

I think that people in Atlanta have all been driven insane by the rush-three-hour traffic that occurs twice daily. When they are not actually parked on the highway, they drive like bats out of hell.

Really? In our experience the traffic is heavy but people aren't aggressive.. it's fast.. but not really scary as in people doing dumb death seeking maneuvers with their cars. Hubby & I always enjoyed going to Atlanta as far as driving goes.. nice welcomed change from the chaos of the North East.

Most people in Atlanta are horrible drivers. The worst offenders are the morons driving 50 mph in the left hand lane while talking on a cell phone. However when it rains almost everyone on the highway succumbs to "idiot gas", which is created when the rain hits the hot pavement. This gas causes confusion, dizziness, drooling & the inability to apply one's foot on the gas pedal.

laughing.gif you really need to come to the North East... you'll learn that idiot gas is produced here in large quantities.. every single day smile.gif

I grew up in upstate NY & lived in Long Island for 3 yrs, so I am very familiar with how people drive up there. I consider myself an aggressive driver, but not an obnoxious one (I try to emulate the Germans when I drive... they drive fast but are very predictable). NYC drivers are very obnoxious & unpredictable, which is not a good combination.

nowhereman wrote: The bottom line is if your ex is getting married & that bothers you there IS a problem!

Now see, this is what I mean. She did not say or infer that she was bothered. It is you who is apparently bothered and adding in all of this extra stuff that wasn't in the original post. While this might be illuminating of your personal perspective, that is all it is - yours, no one elses. You have made your point, you don't need to keep trying to change everyone else's point of view so that it agrees with yours. We are clear on your position, now let's hear what others have to say.

Last post & I will drop it... The OP's situation may or may not be harmless... I don't know her & I am not speculating on the circumstances. My point is that if the ex is hanging around in your life there's a decent chance that it can cause problems. Keyword: May. Other posters have gone in the other direction & feel that its a great thing for the ex to be hanging around... just not my cup of tea & let me add other posters felt the same way.

Nothing I said was meant as a personal attack & if it came off that way I apologize.

CanadaCo-Sponsor Question
I have the exact same issue. I am petitioning for my husband.

I just decided to try to work two jobs full time and file 07 taxes and do back taxes on the little money I made in the past.

I'm hoping that uscis will look more at current income than anything else.

We'll see what happens. Either way, me and my hubby have decided that if we aren't approved, I will just move to his country (which is cheaper to live in anyway-Gambia) or relocate to another country altogether.

Remember, you are a couple now and where you live shouldn't have a bearing on your marriage.

CanadaCanadian Revenue
Hi everyone!

This is my first time posting on this forum. I am usually in K1 forum. My fiance has a interview on Nov 20. We plan on marrying early Dec (civil marriage). We are planning every aspect of our lives, including finances. I have a question about Canadian taxes. Is it possible for the Canadian revenue service to locate my fiance in the US? He has not filed taxes in two years! We were planning to file US taxes jointly but I am afraid of owing debt to Canada. I thinking to file as married separate. Any advice?

CanadaShould we try to visit?
I lived on Can-Am border town for the first year of my relationship with my fiance. Either of us never encountered a problem crossing the border. I crossed daily some weeks! I never told the officer that I was filing a fiance visa. I would say that I am going to visit my love and that was it! I crossed the border every time but I am sure that my information of frequent crossing was in their computer. I never had a problem with the border. I guess it depends on the officer!

CanadaIn a tough Situation
Firing a person without cause can be a case for discrimination. I don't care what the law says! Hypothetically, my job can fire me because I am a female or a minority "without cause"? That is bologna!!!! I would talk with an attorney! Employees have rights too. Your husband's job sounds like they didn't want to pay out for surgury. This is grounds of discrimination!!! He is ill and his job should have been in his corner instead of bailing!!!!
