K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAnd 20 minutes later.... VISA APPROVED!!!!

Finally, the visa process is over! I don't think we would have passed the interview process without all the tips we received here at visajourney. I'm really grateful for the kindness of strangers here.

It was a 20-minute interview - with very simple questions. We frontloaded our application per tips here at visajourney since we are dealing with the US Embassy in El Salvador. We brought tons of proof to the interview and arranged all the originals with tabs on the side to make it easier for the embassy staff to search for which document they need. We wanted to make their job easier.

Many of the questions are basic - work, residence, etc.

But one interesting question that I think sealed the deal was:

WHAT DON'T YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR FIANCEE?

My fiance answered: When she has her MENSTRUATION, she is very sensitive and I need to be very patient with her.

The interviewing officer smiled and said: WHAT AN HONEST MAN YOU ARE. They also tried to trap him by asking him "WHAT is your WIFE's name?" And fiance answered: "WIFE? I dOn't have one."

For the El Salvador folks, there is only one interview date now, unlike before where there was two.

Thank you again folks. Hope this helps!!!!!

Congrats!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportshow did you meet your loved one
We met on Tagged.com. Strangely, I wasn't looking for a relationship. Just wanted to have fun & NOT sexual fun. Lol. I just wasn't interested in a relationship. I had dated a BIG LOSER & I dont mean by weight loss so I had no intentions of meeting MY HUSBAND! What's even more weird is he is not even a social network kinda guy. A friend of his introduced him to the site and helped him create a profile. He sent me a message and I was thinking hmmmm......he is way in Cameroon? Where da heck is that? Lol. But sure I can hold conversation with him, he's obviously miles away so no harm, right?

Well, my HUSBAND completely stopped my "fun" on Tagged.com. I had no more interest in anybody on the site, locally, or even flirting. My mind was in another place....CAMEROON!! A country in which I had obviously never heard of! Lol.
Now, like most, we are starting our journey for him to come to America. I'm excited about it and my church family is as well! :)

OP, what's the status update of your case? Did you contact your Senator? Or request a 2nd interview? Plese let us know how this worked out! I pray you were able to get some more clear answers or schedule another interview before they sent your case back to USCIS.

Ok thanks guys........it appears I make "enough" to not have a co-sponsor, correct?

The link you gave Magical referenced some others situations and the forum discussed assets and savings.............am I going to need all that since I BARELY meet the poverty guideline with $26k annual salary?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAOS / Co-Sponsor -Not Sure ???
Hi guys! New to this site but I have been following everyone's experiences and even approvals (so happy for each of you). This site is very uplifting and its greatly appreciated.

However, my concerns are this exactly:

I am getting married Nov. 21st in Cameroon. Of course, my fiance and I have mutually decided he will move to the US since he does not have any dependents. I have one daughter. The real situation I am worried about is being able to financially support all 3 of us until things are finalized. I read the link for being above 100% poverty level and 125%, and I believe I fit the bill..........but I am soooooo not sure of this. I have been at the same job for the last 2.5 years, annual salary ranging from $20,000 to $27,000. (2009- present) Will I need a co-sponsor to bring my husband over? Or will my salary be suffice alone?

His DS-230 will need an original signature so you will have to send it to him and have him sign part I. Either one of you can send the form to the NVC.

Also, do you think it will be a good idea to send the I-864 with the I-130 petition? I have all the information prepared for that as well, if its ok to submit it.......or I could wait since its almost tax time anyway. :( Which do u think would be the best route? Submit it or wait?

Is there a major/minor difference between the G-325 and G-325A? I seen both listed on the uscis website, but couldn't find any rules on which form is the "correct" one to send. We have completed the G-325A, just want to make sure I'm submitting the correct one!

Will I have to send the DS-230 to my husband for his signature on the 1st part? I have a DS-230 that he has signed but there are some errors on it. I know I am getting ahead of myself, but I just want to be well prepared or as prepared as I possibly can be. I am not clear on who sends the DS-230 form back to NVC? Me or him?? Can this process just be explained a little better so I can calm down. Lol.

Thanks everyone!

First of all, welcome to VJ and good luck to you and your spouse as you embark on your own visa journey. Items you may want to include with your petition include but not limited to: phone records, emails, chat logs, copies of the pages of your passport showing visas and/or entry and exit stamps, copies of airline boarding passes, hotel receipts, pictures of you and your spouse together (other than the ceremony), copies of cards or letters you received, etc. Do not worry about having joint accounts or assets yet, USCIS will not expect you to have items of that nature as you have not yet lived together.

Thank you so much for your reply RyanH! Its greatly appreciated. I wasn't for sure if all this detail should be included when submitting the I-130. I was thinking to just submit the basic stuff (what I listed above) and wait until they ask for anything additional. But now I see its better to send everything at first than to prolong the process. Greatly, greatly appreciated!

Hello Everyone,

Very new to this process but about to file the I-130 for my spouse. Is anyone else beginning their journey as well? Maybe we could be of some encouragement to each other and help each other along the way. I believe I have everything I need to submit for the process to begin, except I am not sure as to "everything" I should submit initially as evidence of a bona fide marriage. Will a copy of the marriage certificate and pictures from the ceremony suffice? We dont have any joint assets, accounts, or anything as of yet. What else, if anything, should I include with the I-130 form?

Secondly, from reading, how does the DS-230 process work? When I went to visit, he filled out the form and I have it with me. Am I supposed to be submit it when requested by the NVC? Or is he supposed to submit this when he receives his paperwork packet? I am confused on that.

Looking forward to hearing from everyone as we embark on this journey! :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures2011 Income Tax - Wife Awaiting I-130 Approval
So so glad u asked this question, I was just about to post one similar. I have a dependent, so does anyone know if I still have the option to file head of household?? I seriously don't want to mess anything up, especially since I have to submit my tax forms later within this process! :(
Americangirl10FemaleCameroon2012-01-23 01:11:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures2011 Tax Concerns

You can file as head of household. You are "considered unmarried" for the purpose of filing your income tax return as head of household. You lived apart from your spouse for at least the last six months of 2011 (visits don't count - we're talking official residence). Your marital status for the tax year is determined by your status on Dec. 31, 2011.

http://taxes.about.c...ofhousehold.htm

You can claim the Head of Household (HOH) filing status on your tax return if you are unmarried, have cared for a dependent for over half the year, and paid more than half the cost of maintaining a home.

Taxpayers claiming the Head of Household filing status benefit from a higher standard deduction and lower tax rates compared to the single filing status. The definition of HOH filing status is quite specific, so read over the criteria carefully.

  • You are unmarried or "considered unmarried" on the last day of the year.
  • You paid more than half the cost of keeping up a home for the year.
  • A "qualifying person" lived with you in the home for more than half the year (except for temporary absences, such as school). However, if the "qualifying person" is your dependent parent, he or she does not have to live with you.

From the Head of Household section of IRS Publication 501.

"Considered Unmarried"
You are "considered unmarried" for tax purposes if on the last of the year you are:

  • unmarried,
  • legally separated from your spouse under a divorce or separate maintenance decree, or
  • married but lived apart from your spouse for at least the last six months of the year.

Thanks for your reply, however I am still confused even after reading your post. I guess I should just file Head of Household, but acknowledge the marriage.........No idea what to do. I'm not trying to "claim" him on my taxes so is there a real need to include him or his information seeing that he is still in his residing in his country?

I'm pleased to report we had our visa approved on 17 June 2010 at the US embassy in London. Now we are just waiting the 5 business days for the courier to deliver the actual visa. Magda's flight is scheduled for 30 June 2010 - we'll see if she can make that one!

Hey everyone:

We had something odd (but good) happen. My fiance opened the mail in our London flat and Packet 3 was there! We thought we were at the stage of waiting for an NOA2 but obviously it was approved and sent to London via the NVC with no electronic or letter notification. So we are about a month further ahead than we thought we were.

Anyone have any idea how long (ballpark) it takes to get from Packet 3 return to interview in London? We are planning a wedding for 23 July in the USA.

Captain. Would it be OK for me to pick your brain as to the next processes since I will be in Kiev about a month behind you?

Also folks, we still have some people on the RumRunner who have been below decks with me patiently waiting NOA2. I will be with the parrot still on board till they are all approved. We will leave no man or woman behind!!!!

Anyone else STILL waiting on the NOA2? I'm really going crazy. NOA1 Dec 8 and no touches since Dec 11 2009, they told me I could call and request that the case be updated next Friday April 9 2010 and USCIS would have to update it within 45 days.. I was hoping to have the wedding in June, don't know if that's too unrealistic now or not.
Very frustrating because I know I've done absolutely everything right- we both have totally clean background checks and was very thorough and organized with the packet. I guess just really bad luck. If it's taking so long, why no RFE or touches? Grrr..
Hoping someone else in my situation will speak up so I don't feel so alone.
For now just encouraging fiance to get everything prepared.

I'm still waiting on my NOA-2 as well. I suspect we'll see action soon.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresG-325a question
Hello all,

I'm new here so forgive me if I should have hit the 'Search' function first.

I'm trying to assemble my I-130 packet and note that the form G-325a has to be filled out and signed by both my wife and myself.

She's in the Philippines now and I'm in the USA so I'm not sure how to achive this. Also, a passport-style photo is needed I see.

Any help with this? Thanks in advance.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 Received! - Question about next step
QUOTE (Brad and Vika @ Nov 12 2008, 10:15 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I finally received our NOA2 yesterday - nearly 150 days after filing. kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif The notice says that the petition has been approved, and has been forwarded to the listed consulate. I assume they mean consulate listed in the petition. My understanding is that the petition now goes to NVC for processing, then to the embassy in Kiev. Is this not correct?

Thanks to all for your support and advice so far. VJ has really helped me to better understand and cope with the process.

Yes National Visa Center is the next stop... it's usually pretty quick (two weeks or less). After that your packet goes to the embassy. Check the embassy web site for instructions... in the Philippines once you clear the NVC you can schedule the medical, but it may be different in your case.

Good luck!
