Whatever. I went to Kaufland all time for Pepsi Max.

I thought the Coke there and Coke Light was nasty. I mean, I drank it, but I have absolutely no idea how they ruined both of them.

If you are looking for another HFCS free item and live around the Great Lakes, Meijer has some really good store brand jam called Three Fruits. It is manufactured in Canada.

That's funny. My husband and his family of course are all born and raised in Chicago. They always says things like "do you want to go with". The first few times I waited, thinking they were still going to add something to the sentence, but no, didn't happen. laughing.gif

I do say that too. whistling.gif That one is from the German influence on the language. I say it when I am fairly sure the person I am speaking to does know what is otherwise going on. If I didn't think they did, I would continue the sentence to make it more specific.

I think the issue was not that it ends in a preposition, rather, it is a redunancy. You do not have to put 'at' at the end to be understood. It has been speculated that it was some Scandinavian language's point of grammar that leaked into English. smile.gif

and my waiting for Treble to ask a waitor for a refill on her soda, I am genuinel intrigued by the different terms in each areas of the world for items. I am even more enthralled by peoples rejection and refusal to conform to the cultural norm.

Why would I want to conform to the cultural norm when for over 20 years of my life, this was not my culture? It's like asking someone who is British to not say "bangers and mash" or not eat "beans on toast". That is not rejecting the cultural norm, that is just people's natural reactions to speech pathology and all they know.

For me, while it is the above it is also about the preservation of my culture and my heritage. I moved here and gave up everything, can't I at least keep my upbringing? Not to mention, I love our Canadianisms and they make me feel unique here in a melting pop of "sodas", "bathrooms" and people leaving their shoes on in my house.

I understand that because I have come under attack from people from other American dialect belts who do not say "Where is it at?", which is mostly a Chicagoland/Upper Great Lakes thing. In fact, it makes them very annoyed and almost angry to hear it. Until I read a raging, angry, knock down debate about this on another forum I am on, I never knew there was anything wrong with saying that and I'll be damned if I am going to quit. It is seriously not that big of a deal. People need to get over it. tongue.gif

CanadaChild born on flight over Canada deemed Canadian citizen
QUOTE (Krikit @ Jan 9 2009, 11:13 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Interesting. I wonder what would motivate her to do that? The flight was only 6 hours old when she went into labour. From my experience with childbirth, that means she would have been well into labour before she even boarded the flight. But, obviously, all child birth experiences are not the same.

Nope, they are not. I was only in labor 4.5 hours with my daughter, two of them, I didn't even believe I was in labor, it was just nonsense on the part of my uterus, as had been occuring for only the past 4 weeks. She was my first. Some people have labor where the kid is out the door in less than an hour from the first thought of contraction.

I think it was idiotic of her to fly so late, regardless of the reason. What if there was a serious complication?

He always gets so huffy whenever I ask him what something is in French. Fu*k it. I'm not asking him anymore. I'll just look the word up on WordReference.com and hopefully get help from friends or somewhere else. mad.gif

My husband was the exact same way. He would generally prefer to speak to me only in English unless he absolutely had to speak German. He would also get pissy if I asked about this or that. This was annoying because I was living in Germany and needed the extra help. I ended up having to learn from everyone else but him. Thank goodness no one else I knew there spoke good English and for the blessed TV.

Now all the sudden in the US, he has done a complete 180 and pretty much speaks to me about 70% of the time in German if we are in public and about 50% of the time at home. He now is more willing to help. You have seriously got me why. I don't dislike it because I have to keep up with the language, but at the same time, my dear, I could have used this like 3 years ago. headbonk.gif

She's a real piece of work. I like kittens, but I don't have 40 of them. And then she denied being on welfare. Oh wait, she was on food stamps, but somehow that is not government assistance. Wait, it is, but like, she's not going to be on them forever, you know? Then she is going to use student loans to pay for them. Good plan, Einstein. Then she expects everyone else to help her take care of 14, because "No one can take care of 14 alone.". It is appalling. She has to be one of the most entitled women on the planet. I dunno why I keep reading except I like train wrecks. I don't think she should be getting death threats, but Jesus H. Christ, aiyiyi.

No. Living there and loving and American doesn't make me one. Apart from that - my country does not allow dual citizenship and I certainly want to keep mine. We may be moving back there in a few years after all...

Germany allows dual citizenship for its own citizens as long as you fill out a form beforehand with the German embassy explaining why you do not want to give up your German citizenship. They also offer it for children of German parentage. My daughter is a dual citizen. However, I have no right to it as an American if I wanted German citizenship. Ridiculous, I think, but whatever. PR status isn't that bad.

Not everyone can be responded to all the time. I think only 35% of my posts get a response from someone else. That's life on a board full of thousands of people. It would be great if we could give everyone the same amount of time and attention, but that is really not possible. Just because no one responded doesn't mean no one read it. Rather it could just mean there was nothing to add or they had other things to do or they had no idea what the answer was to your question. You can't take it all so personally.

German Permenent Residency. He can get it through you after you are married. It only takes about 2-4 days to process and there you go. It is valid for 3 years.

Yeah, if he has German PR, he can file his I-130 through Frankfurt instead of through one of the service centers in the US. It is normally faster than filing from the US. Check us all out in the DCF subforum.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDifference between K3 and CR-1 Visa?
I don't believe there is a residency time limit for DCF through Frankfurt. In theory, he could just fly to Germany right after they are married, file for German PR through his wife, send the I-130 to Frankfurt, and leave again. Right now, processing time for DCF Frankfurt I-130 seems to be between 2-4 months. The I-130 is good for one year. Seems like the cheapest way to do everything if he has to go over there anyway after they are married.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOnce you get pacet 3 can you put off applying for the visa?
I believe it is one year. Contact your consulate to be sure. The downside to letting it expire is get ready to part with all of your money all over again. I am not sure why you would want to sit on it too long given how quickly interview wait times can change. The visa is good for six months from the date of issue.

QUOTE (HighwayStar @ Feb 5 2008, 01:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I apologise if someone took offence to the directness of my post. However, I have my reasons for saying the things I did. I am 47, and have spent most of my life alone. Every minute I waste weighs heavily on me, because it brings me closer to the end of my life. I already know I won't be able to have a family, and the idea of spending another six or seven months apart from the man I love can weigh very heavily on me. I am not a young girl who still has to learn the meaning of patience. Believe, me, I have had lots of opportunities to do so, and in much worse situations.

I won't comment on other posts, because I have very peculiar ideas on the way the world works, which would be pointless to discuss here. However, I would like to remind you that not everyone is able to visit their partner often during the enforced separation, and that I don't think that forcing people to marry just in order to be together is not always a good idea. As to moving to other countries instead of the US, there may be serious reasons behind a couple's choice.

Just a final remark.... I am way better off financially than my fiancé, and also well-educated and qualified enough not to be likely to become a public charge. I am very sorry if what I have said was offensive to anyone, but I can't help feeling negatively about the hoops we are made to jump.

Then why doesn't he move to Italy if the laws are easier and you are the one better off? Why go through the trouble when you don't have to? I am just curious.

DCF is cheap in terms of fees alone if you are eligible for an IR-1. Then you don't have to worry about AOS or ROC. However, you would have to factor in the cost of more plane tickets and the set up costs of living in another country for however long it takes to get their residency or the embassy's definition of residency. And also can't forget that you already have to be married 2 years to get an IR-1 in the first place so...
