CanadaAddress question
It does say not to use a PO Box on the I-129F instructions. I did not see it anywhere else on the forms. So when I filled mine out I put my PO Box then my civic address after or under it. I also talked to the post office to let them know how I did it and they were going to watch for any mail coming. It was no problem, I got all mine in my PO Box.

I sent my packet 3 to Montreal using Xpresspost. It was signed for and I have received packet 4. You can send your packet 3 via Xpresspost, however you MUST pick a DHL location for your visa to come back to you.

CanadaMontreal's DS-156k

Correct, it does work as intended with Explorer.

Thanks :)

You are most welcome. I'm glad it worked for you :-) Good luck!

CanadaMontreal's DS-156k
The instructions say to do it in Internet Explorer....Try that. I normally use Firefox too but did the forms in IE and had no problem.
Hope that helps.

CanadaSome Canadian Humour
Too cute.....I live about 15 minutes from Shubenacadie...There is no Tim Horton's there but there is in the next town called Stewiacke....Stewyak. I will be sure to pass that joke on...Thanks!

CanadaPolice Certificate
The one you had done by the RCMP is fine. It checks all across Canada. It is good for one year.

CanadaVisiting Fiance
It says 4-6 weeks but it doesn't usually take near that long. Once you send packet 3 in you can wait a few days and start calling DOS to see if it has been logged. Once it is logged they send you packet 4.

I'm not sure what you mean by Dr's letter, but assuming you mean the medical you will have. You will take the package that the Dr gives you to the interview with you. The only thing that you send in packet 3 is the checklist and the forms. Everything else on the checklist goes with you to the interview.

Traveling to the US...Make sure that you bring proof of ties to Canada and a return ticket. There is no guarantee that you will be admitted but the more proof you have that you will return the better.

CanadaHow to get a K1 Packet 3 Update?
I called DOS at the number that YuAndDan poste. 1-202-663-1225 Press 1 for main menu then press 0 for an operator.
DOS can tell you when your packet 3 was logged.

CanadaMy mailing address is a PO Box
carl24 ....I don't see why they couldn't just watch for the mail for you and either hold it or put it in your box. You will have lots of time between the NOA1 and the NOA2 to get it all sorted out. My fiance, the petitioner also got the NOA2 and the letter from NVC and a copy of packet 3 from Montreal. So don't panic.
JeannieLFemaleCanada2011-01-20 20:40:00
CanadaMy mailing address is a PO Box
NOA1 goes to the petitioner. I used my civic address and PO box and it came to my PO Box. Why not check with the mail delivery person on the route to see what they say. He or she just might deliver it to your house or redirect.
JeannieLFemaleCanada2011-01-20 11:10:00
CanadaApplication receipt/petition number
I don't think it will be a problem. I'm sure they can fix it quite easily :-)

Thank you very much for your quick response. How sure are you? I would hate to get denied over something silly like that. I apologize if I'm sounding paranoid though.

I have sent my packet 3....It was logged and I had my packet 4 and interview date....So pretty sure that if it were a problem I wouldn't have gotten this far :-)
JeannieLFemaleCanada2011-03-10 18:19:00
CanadaApplication receipt/petition number
That would be the receipt number on the NOA1.....EAC or WAC number.

CanadaK1 Interview in Montréal
You see the dates when you pick a DHL location. Last week they were booking for mid May in Montreal. You should set your timeline. click the link and fill in the blanks. It would make it easier for people to help you :-)

CanadaK1 Interview in Montréal
Your packet 3 needs to be logged before you can schedule your appointment. I would suggest waiting for packet 4 before you book. I waited until my fiance got his packet 4 (his came 3 days before mine did) I was afraid that they might cross reference the interview booking date with the time that they sent packet 4. DOS actually suggested I wait when I called them.
JeannieLFemaleCanada2011-02-04 08:31:00
CanadaAverage wait???
Yes....Thanks, let me know for sure. I thought you were still away.

I normally book through the travel agent. Just because of convenience. Selloffvacations.com if you see a price online that is what the will charge if you go in person as you would pay online. Typically they are even cheaper than the airline sites. I will do some research in the next few days though. Thanks!

I look forward to hearing from you.
Congrats on your approval!

CanadaAverage wait???

Hey jeannie, for what it's worth, I had my interview a week ago, and my waybill number isn't showing up online yet. I can let you know when I receive mine, if you want.
I might call DOS in the next few days to see if it's been printed.

I realize what you're saying about the price going way up, but did you know when you change flights, you pay the $75 penalty for changing PLUS the cost of the current ticket? So, you could end up paying the way higher price plus an extra $75. Just a thought!

Yes please let me know when you get yours. Are you still in NS? When I was talking to my travel agent she said that the cost of changing the ticket would just be $150. for the penalty I think I will double check with her tomorrow. Peg told me that she called the consulate in Halifax to find out if her visa had been issued. If you check my profile page on here it is one of the comments in the bottom part. The number and info is there in the post from her.
JeannieLFemaleCanada2011-03-15 20:25:00
CanadaAverage wait???
Thanks for the response but it will cost about 3 times as much if I wait. I can book and pay a fee to change the date. But I am looking to see how long people that have had recent interviews in Montreal are waiting to receive theirs back.

CanadaAverage wait???
I will have my interview in Montreal on April 27th. I am looking to book my flight for POE. I am just wondering how long people who have had recent interviews in Montreal are waiting to have their passports back from DHL after the interview. Would booking the flight for 2 1/2 weeks after the interview be safe? Thanks for any input!

CanadaPOE Tomorrow

My wife flies out from Halifax to Austin, TX tomorrow for her POE (CR-1). It's been a long time coming, so obviously we're ecstatic.

I've read through the guide here and past posts, but just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything.

She has her passport with the Visa and a letter from the medical appointment. That's basically all she needs right?

She's going to have a short interview (anything she should expect?) and have biometrics done probably (just fingerprints, right?).

When she gets here, next week we can go to the Social Security office and start pestering them for her SSN, right? I know it'll take 2-3 weeks, but my wife is anxious to start working immediately.

Does she need to do anything special to get her Green Card? Or just make sure the forms and addresses are correct?

I just wanted to say that this is probably one of the best communities on the internet and anytime someone mentions immigration, I send them here because you guys are about 1000x better than the "official" sources of information.

I will be doing my POE at Halifax airport in May....Please let me know how it goes for her. Thanks!!!

CanadaMoving
A friend of mine just moved recently to Maryland from Ottawa and used ABF UPack.....I have been doing some research too and I believe that is who I will be using. I also am not taking any furniture with me. You download the customs forms online and fill them out.....I've started those already...Not fun!

CanadaWho to contact - Montreal Consulate
Call DOS and ask if Montreal has logged your packet 3....Montreal does not book the interview for you. Once your packet 3 is logged you can book your interview online.
JeannieLFemaleCanada2011-03-29 14:48:00
CanadaCan I set my interview?
You can keep checking for next available date even though you have booked. If one opens up earlier and you want it, click to reschedule. Congrats on your interview dates!

CanadaCan I set my interview?
You can book your interview without physical packet 4. As soon as my packet 3 was logged the agent told me that I could book my interview. So that is what I did. My packet 4 letter came about 4 weeks later. Glad I didn't wait :-)

CanadaK-1 Packet 3 question/Canada

make copy of the originals, when you go to the interview, ask for the originals back, they should make copies if not give they your photo copy, a lot of embassys are useing the new DS-160 it replaces the DS-156,the DS-156must be filed online it goes to the embassy, the photo goes on the DS-160 uploaded, and bar coded,

For Montreal you do not send originals or copies of birth certificate, police clearance etc....just the forms and signed checklist.
JeannieLFemaleCanada2011-03-28 07:15:00
CanadaK-1 Packet 3 question/Canada

JeannieL, what about photos, any for this round or just the interview?

No....just the checklist and forms.....Montreal has been known to lose things. Just have everything else ready for the interview :-)
JeannieLFemaleCanada2011-03-28 07:13:00
CanadaK-1 Packet 3 question/Canada
For packet 3 ....Send the signed checklist.....1 copy of the DS-160, DS-156K and the DS-230...2 copies of the DS-156. DO NOT send anything but the forms and checklist, everything else you take to the interview with you. The checklist just means that you will have them at the time of the interview. So check off the medical too as you will have that before the interview.
JeannieLFemaleCanada2011-03-28 06:31:00
CanadaGoing for a visit back home; what can I bring into Canada?
It wouldn't hurt to contact customs and ask them. A friend of mine who is a truck driver had a package of hotdogs in his refrigerator in his bunk and they charged him for transporting a meat product. I have taken cans of lobster and Tim Horton's coffee and Summer savory into the US but have never brought any food back with me other than some candy at Christmas.

All you send is the the forms that are requested by the consulate....the DS-156, DS156K, DS-160 and a copy of the DS-230 that you have sent electronically. You also send with those forms, the checklist that you printed. In each thing that applies to you, such as the criminal record check, the passport photos, the I-134 put an X beside then sign and date the bottom. You DO NOT send the things that are checked on the checklist, that is just to show Montreal that you will have them for the interview. So just send the forms above and the signed checklist. Then gather all the things on the checklist to take to Montreal for your interview. The main thing right now is to get the packet 3 sent back so they can get it logged.

My interview is in 3 weeks...in Montreal.

CanadaPKT 3 procedures - K-1 Canada [edited title]
Sorry for the delay....You check off the things that you will be taking to the interview...such as criminal record check and I-134 and so on...only the things that apply to you. You will pay when you book the interview...After packet 3 is logged you can book your interview and pay at that time. So in about a week after Montreal receives your packet 3 start calling DOS to see if it has been logged.

You mentioned sending the passport pictures with packet 3 as well. Do not send them, take them to the interview with you along with all the other supporting documents. As Inky said. Just send the signed checklist after you fill it out. And the DS-156, DS156K, DS-160 and a copy of the DS-230 that you have sent electronically.
