Canadapassport photos & do you attach any to forms in packet 3?
Put 2 passport photos in a plastic bag and paper clip them to the DS 156. You will need 3 passport photos for your medical in Toronto. It wouldn't hurt to take 2 extras to the interview just in case Montreal loses the ones you sent. They have been known to lose things. Make sure you make copies of everything. You don't need passport photos for your POE. You will need 6 photos for your AOS when it comes time for that but best to wait until you are ready to send that to have new photos taken.

Good luck in Montreal :-) Get out and see the city, it is beautiful and very easy to get around. I was also from NS, now in VA, where will you be living when in the US?

The vision test was really simple, they let me keep my glasses on and just tested my chart reading from across the room. Nothing too terrible about it! I'll update with my interview experience tomorrow! <3

Thinking of you today! Have a great interview!

Be honest with them. Take a few things to show proof of ties. If your fiance can send you a copy of the NOA1 take that too. I didn't have any trouble traveling back and forth after we filed. I always had a return ticket because I was flying and as much as I could for proof of ties, including a letter from my employer with expected date of return to work. Good luck in your journey!

It's supposed to say undeliverable.. because it is, in fact, not deliverable :)

Make sure you take two photo ID's and the waybill number with you when you go pick it up.

Mine said ready for pick up...Guess it depends on who scans it.
I was asked for my Drivers license only and the waybill number.

Just did, looks like it's here in Ottawa (well, Nepean). Yay! :) Though this is what DHL says:

2011-05-13 07:26 Undeliverable NEPEAN
2011-05-13 02:36 Arrived at Delivery Facility NEPEAN
2011-05-12 21:57 Depart Facility DORVAL

The "undeliverable" part worries me. Should it say something else before I go pick it up?

Can you call the depot in Nepean and ask? It should say ready for pick up not undeliverable. See they aren't allowed to deliver it to you unless you have made the other arrangements. There is a customer service number if you can't call that depot directly.

On the CSC site does it show below your personal information the DHL location? Call DOS to see if it has been printed and if so if it was picked up. Also there is your reference number in the personal information section on CSC. You can put that number in the DHL site under reference #. First thing though. Check to see if your DHL location is on that page.....Then call DOS to see if it was printed. They do them in lots, and they say 3-5 business days. My interview was April 27th and Mine was printed May 2nd...Picked up by DHL on the 4th.

How would I get an email from DHL .....we never provided email to them when registering on the usvisa website?

Go into the CSC site where you registered for DHL and where you got your appointment......After you sign in it will show your page that has your name, appointment date (which won't show anymore) DHL location.......By your name it says "edit" click on that and a new page opens. See if your email address is in there and contact phone numbers. You can add them if they aren't. Your phone number would be the most important. The day after DHL picked up my visa in Montreal, the CSC website showed my waybill number so the email address is not so important as the phone numbers.

I tried this and I just had my interview on Wed May 4th. When I log on it is saying I have no appointment scheduled at this time. I get that it may be too early for it to be sent which is fine, but there was a mix up somewhere and I wasn't on their appointment list (it seems it has happened to a few others as well here). Does this system think I haven't had my interview or is that normal? Should I wait a few days to be concerned? Then maybe call them?

My interviewer told me that it would be printed in 3-5 business days. They do them in bunches so don't start worrying yet. I had my interview on a Wednesday at it was printed the following Tuesday. It was sent out on Wednesday and I got it Thursday (yesterday)

Got the email last night that DHL picked up my visa.....Got the phone call from DHL this morning at 8am saying it was in Dartmouth NS and ready for pick up. My morning was too busy so at 1pm I had a road trip to Dartmouth to pick up my visa.....Visa sitting beside me at the table here. What a great feeling! I want to thanks all the people of VJ that helped us get this far :-) So it was a week and a day from my interview to have visa in hand. Not too bad at all!

Have an update! We emailed Montreal yesterday and the lady who conducted our interview called this morning and said she made a mistake and she's sorry, and she needs us to scan and email the 4 pages DS230 to her.She assured my hubby that he is approved and nothing is wrong with his paperwork. So we did that and just 1hr ago she emailed back, said thank you for doing this your visa has been printed out and its going in the mail tommorow!! yay ! :star:  Now we just have POE to get through!
Thankyou vj family!

That is awesome news! Congrats! Check your email tonight....My email was around 8pm EST yesterday and the visa was in NS and ready for pick up this morning.

Is there a reference number on the CSC site? If yes then use that number on dhl.ca for tracking by reference number

EDIT: replace XXXXXXX in the following link with your reference number --> http://www.dhl.ca/ca...ference=XXXXXXX

I just got off the phone with DOS and they said that my visa was issued. So does that mean that DHL has picked it up? There is no weigh bill number showing on the CSC site. Should I call Halifax DHL and see if they have any info on it? Do I use my passport number to ask questions to DHL? Thanks for any info....I am getting anxious!!!

I have my visa in my hands (well, next to me on the table)!!

The CSC website never showed me that it was available, in fact, now it pretty much tells me I have no reason for an account. Instead, DHL emailed last night and called this morning.

That's odd, because there is a section in the middle of form DS-156K that specifically says "The Following Documents must be attached in order to apply for a fiance' nonimmigrant visa" and then they include birth certificate and police certificates as items under that list. Is this something new maybe or am I misinterpreting this?

Do not send them...take them to the interview with you. As Coconuts said, they will attach the copy to your file when you get there.

Long form of Birth Certificate? Yikes!! I only have the small (non laminated) paper card/wallet size. Im not sure I even know what the long form is exactly.
So you are saying I need to contact the Canadian GOV and get a "long form" of my Birth Cert, for the interview?

Please advise.
thanks.

Yes you need the long form of your birth certificate.....I went to Vital Statistics and got it the same day. You can order them online go to your provincial government site. The long form has your parents names on it, unlike the wallet size one. In Nova Scotia the long form birth certificate cost me $35.90. Make sure to make a photo copy of it before you go to the interview so they will give you back the original. You will need it again for AOS.

Hey all, just an additional question about getting Packet3 sent out. One thing that happens in Canada is that some people get what I'm told is a shortform birth certificate, is this sufficient to send or do they want a longform one?

Also, I'm assuming you send a copy of your birth certificate and police checks, can anyone confirm this?

Thanks again everyone!

You need the long form of the birth certificate for the interview the short one will not do. You take your birth certificate and a copy of it to the interview with you, they will keep the copy and give you back the original. All you send in packet 3 is the checklist signed and dated with X's in everything that applies to you and you will have at the interview. The forms that were required, 2 passport photos and a copy of the bio page of your passport. Everything else goes to the interview with you. Montreal has been known to lose things. Make copies of all the forms that you are sending for yourself.

Thank you so much, this is so helpful.

I am waiting for my Pkt 3 to come in the mail but I thought I'd send everything out anyway since the DOS says that Montreal has received our case...

My question is - how am I supposed to have the first item on the checklist, the appointment letter showing date and time of interview? I have everything else on the checklist ready to go.

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

It's ok to send packet 3 to Montreal before receiving the hard copy of packet 3 letter. But really you should wait until DOS tells you that packet 3 is sent.
As far as the checklist goes, you put an X in everything that you will be bringing to the interview with you. The only things that you send with the checklist is the required forms and the passport photos.....I would also include a copy of the passport bio page as some people have been asked for that.

Perfect, this is exactly what I was looking for. I did interpret this as "make sure you have this before you show up to your interview," but it's good to get clarification.

The second part I read wrong, they want a letter of intent to marry signed 30 days before the interview, not stating you will be married within 30 days of the interview.

Thanks again!

Happy to help :-)

Great information, I appreciate your efforts a lot!

A quick question for anyone that's done this already about the checklist. The checklist shows a couple of confusing things. The first is one that says you have to a number of things done, including a medical interview and police report; however, it specifically says to not obtain these things. Do you send in the checklist with these things not checked off?

The second question is related to the last item that says "For K visa applicants, a letter of intent to marry signed by the petitioner within 30 days of interview date." My understanding was that you have 90 days, not 30. Did this change at some point? Thanks again anyone who can help!

You get the police report and the medical done and take them to the interview with you. You put an X on the checklist for everything you are bringing to the interview even if you haven't obtained them yet. They are required for the interview not sent in with the checklist.

The letter of intent must be signed by your fiance within 30 days prior to your interview and taken to the interview with you along with their I-134. You do have 90 days after you POE to get married this letter is to confirm that you will get married within the 90 days. Much like the one that you sent with the I-129F.

Great work :-) This will be a great help to people throughout the process. When people post questions we can refer them to this post :-) .....In saying that....as I mentioned to Ralyse when she asked me to read over what she had some time ago...lets not forget how we felt when we were starting out and the emotions that we felt, scared, happy, confused, excited just to name a few. I have seen some pretty rude answers to peoples questions recently (not just in the Canada forum). This is a site for people to come for help, and support. Lets keep offering that with great answers to make people feel at ease.

Thanks again Ralyse for all the time you spent putting that together. I hope that it gets pinned soon if it hasn't already :-)

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionSSN Change needed during AOS/Lifting Conditions?
I went into the SS office yesterday to change my SSN to my married name. They told me when I went in before that I had to wait until after the green card arrived. So that is what I did. So my new card will come in my married name and also with out the DHS authorization printed on it. She told me to shred the one with DHS authorization on it when the new card arrived.

I had to show proof of green card. I also had my drivers license in my married name, my EAD/AP card and my marriage license. The only thing she took a copy of was the green card.

Our check was also cashed in Lewisville Texas a week or so ago. The case number was not on the back, but we received our NOA1 a few days later. Once you get that go to the USCIS and sign up for the case updates. You can get emails and text messages. You can both make accounts there so that you both get the emails and texts if you want.
