K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBoarding Passes for different days
You won't need to write and explanation of the different date of the boarding pass when you send in the I-129F. Just send the copies of the boarding passes that you have. You have one picture together of one visit. Do you have other pictures together from other visits? If so include those. Send a few pages of emails, chats and phone records.

Yes you need your passport for the interview. That is what they put the visa so you can enter the US to get married.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat are the exact steps in this? Am I missing something? + will we get in faster?

So my fiancé' and I applied for the K-1 visa back in September, but the application was sent back to us because the amount of the cheque was wrong. We fixed it and sent it back at the beginning of December (we know, we procrastinated too much). The papers were signed by someone before they were sent back to us. One of the many questions I have are since those papers were looked over a long time ago, will our case be pushed forward at all? We got our NOA-1 Jan 2nd.
The other thing I was wondering about, is the entire process. Looking at the flowchart, this is my understanding for the process:

-Send packet
-Receive NOA-1
-Wait for NOA-2 saying application was approved
-Application gets sent to the service center
-Case forwarded to US Embassy
-Embassy receives case
-Wait for NOA-3 (this is the paperwork the embassy sends to you, then you send back after you fill it out, correct?)
-Interview date given
-Medical interview prior to interview, correct? (How far ahead of the interview should the medical exam be?)
-Interview at Embassy
-If approved, move down within 6 months.

The last question is, when the interview date is given and I have to go to the interview, is my fiancé allowed to travel here to go to my interview with me?

I know this is long, but I would reallllly appreciate any information I can get. Thanks everyone!

It would be easier for people to answer if you put more about yourself on your profile. Like filing location and which consulate you will be interviewing at. Also if you click on that little thing called 'timeline' and put your information in you will get a guesstimate of when your NOA2 should be arriving. When you get your letter from the consulate it is not called a NOA3 it is called a packet 3 and will have all the instructions on what forms to fill out or where to go to download them. But to get accurate info you should do the 2 things I suggested.

You are most welcome....The worst is over for you now. The interview is the easiest part of the whole process. Just be prepared for it, take everything that you have and like I said make copies.

You will get a packet 4 letter telling you that you can go online and book your interview and book your medical. Wait a week or so and call DOS again to see if packet 3 was logged and packet 4 was sent. As soon as they tell you packet 4 was sent you can book your interview, you don't need to wait for the physical letter to arrive.

You should be ok with just sending the conformation page. Don't send anything now, wait to see if it is requested. Take a copy of everything to the interview and make copies of all original documents that you need back. Best wishes :-)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 Application Fees

Just found out that the NVC received our petition. We were wondering when you pay the $350 visa application fee. Do you do it when you receive packet 3 from the consulate or after the NVC receives the petition and assigns the case number?

You will pay the $350 when you book your interview. First you will get the packet 3 letter from Montreal telling you to fill out the forms. You will fill out the packet 3 forms and submit them. Then you will receive packet 4 (a letter telling you that you can book your interview). At that time you will go online and pay the fee and book your interview.

You should wait for DOS to say that packet 3 has been sent. You don't need to wait for the hard copy of packet 3 just make sure that Montreal has sent packet 3.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInterview: Alone or with fiance?

When you go for your interview, is it mandatory for your fiance (the petitioner) to accompany you?

I went alone to mine. It was very quick and painless. A total waste of money for your fiance to travel to the interview in Montreal or Vancouver.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedurespassport photo in i-129f pack ?

Hi, as you can probably see from my two topics below, looks like my fiance needs to re-create our pack and send again to Cali asap (like today), only problem with this is that she will not be able to include my passport photo which we originally included... how much of a problem is this do you guys think please? She will be including color and non-color photos of us together... please any advice will help im freaing out about this now as its only literally in the last few minutes i have realized we made a big mistake sending the pack to Dallas lockbox. :help:
Thank you.

Slow down...Read what people are saying to you. You DID the right thing by sending it to the Dallas Lockbox. ALL I-129F petitions get send to that address then are opened there and sent to either Vermont or California for processing. So you don't need to send another copy to anyone.

You should always make a duplicate copy of everything you send during this process anyway. So make another packet up for your records but don't send it again.

The only one I signed is the DS-230 on page 2. It was the only one that didn't say to not write below this line. I did not sign the signature part on the last page because like on all the other forms it says not to write below this line. You will sign them at the interview.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAnother $350 at the time of scheduling interview

Okay, thanks.
Now,... I'm not concerned about it at this moment, but just curious, HOW SOON AFTER THE MARRIAGE is that AOS $1070.00 need to be paid?
Is there a time frame ?

And, I'm really not concerned about not getting the visa, but... accordingly, these days, they are getting EVERYONE for the $350, visa granted or not. Good of them ;-)

Also before the interview your fiance has to have a medical that will be over $200.

Congrats on having everything ready to go! Now you can join the rest of us in the lovely wait. Patience is not my best quality. Thanks for updating your timeline. When you get your NOA1 be sure to add the date. At that point they will add and estimated time that your case will be adjudicated.

DHL will be the fastest way for them to get the information that they requested. It should only take a few days for it to arrive. Make sure that you put your case number on the envelope and on the information that they requested. Maybe even a cover letter for easier reference for them. Anytime I have emailed Montreal consulate I have only received the automated response.

CanadaApproved!! K-1

I am so HAPPY right now.. and so glad that this part of the process is over!

I woke up around 4:30am after a restless sleep! I arrived at the Embassy around 6:30am and I was the first in line!! Around 7:00am the line behind me kept getting longer and longer! The guard opened the doors around 7:30-7:45am and asked for my appointment letter. I had my accordion file folder in my laptop case... and this was an issue, keep in mind that all I had in the laptop case was my paperwork and my wallet. The guard looked at my appointment letter and told me that I could not go in because the bag I had was too big, I proceeded to tell him that I only had my paperwork and wallet in there, he didn't care because it was not considered a "woman's purse". He told me to bring it back to the hotel and come back and see him once I did. Lucky for me we parked just up the street, so it didn't take me long to run it back to the car. When I came back he allowed me to go to the front, he looked at my appointment letter again and then allowed me in... Phewww, let me tell you these guards are very very intimidating!

So next step was to go through the metal detectors.. these guards seemed kind of annoyed but whatever!! I was instructed to go downstairs and wait. Once downstairs, I was surprised that there were only 3 other people that had gone through ahead of me.. I sat right next to the elevator as instructed by many of you to do and once the guard came down to get us, I was the first in the elevator and made my way to the back doors!

We arrived on the 19th floor and were instructed to get in line, I was the third in line as there were 2 older woman I let go ahead of me (I figured a good deed wouldn't hurt :)) At this window, I was asked for my appointment letter and I was given a number C-3. I sat down in the first row right in front of the screen where the numbers come up.

About 5-10 mins pass and I was instructed to go to window #10, the gentleman there was very friendly and joked around, he asked me for Medical, Passport, Passport Photos and he took my finger prints, then asked me to go back and wait for my number to be called again. Again about 5-10mins later I was asked to go to window #11. At this window she gave me back my x-ray and passport photos and asked me for my Criminal Check, I-134, letter of intent, W2 and letter from Darrell's employer confirming his employment. I had Darrell's LES, Tax Return and Bank Savings but she said just the W2 was fine. I was instructed to go back and wait again while my file was being reviewed and that my number would be called soon. Another 10-15 mins past and I was called to go to Window #8, I was greeted by a very pleasant and soft spoken lady with dread locks :) who asked me to raise my right hand and swore me in. She looked through my paperwork and asked me to sign my name on one of the forms that I had sent in .. I can't remember which. She then asked these questions: 1.) How did we meet 2.) What my fiance does for a living 3.) How he proposed and 4.) When do we plan on marrying. She then handed me a "Welcome" letter and said I was approved... YAY!!! I wasn't even asked for any proof on a relationship!!!

A HUGE HUGE HUGE THANK YOU to all of you VJers....Especially Alexis and Jeannie, I couldn't have done it without you lovely ladies!!!

Congrats again Courtney! It was so good to read your story :-) ....Hugs!

CanadaQuestions about preparing interview items

So am i correct in that Montreal will take your passport after the interview? Are you saying that a copy of the bio page is sufficient to be able to travel by air back home after the interview? i have always been wondering how i was going to get back to BC if Montreal kept my passport!

You can use your drivers license to fly within Canada. No need for a passport unless leaving the country. The reason for keeping a copy of the bio page is for when you are tracking your visa, you will have the info on a photo copy. It was just a helpful suggestion for you to make a copy for yourself. They attach the visa to a page in your passport that is why they keep the passport..

I'm also preparing my documents for the interview. I was born in quebec so my birth certificate is in french. I assume I need to get that translated.

I feel like i'm studying for a big exam. I hope i get everything right.

Yes you will need to have it translated. Make sure it is the long form of the birth certificate with your parents names on it. Also make a copy of it and the translation, Montreal will want a copy of both and give you back the originals.

Awesome. Thanks for the help guys :) I think I'll bring the evidence of domicile just in case. You never know! And I guess I'll leave I-864 for when I do AOS :D

Thanks again for clarifying!

You are most welcome. I stress as I stress to everyone...make copies of everything. Make sure you have an original and a copy of everything you are asked to bring. Make 2 copies of your bio page of your passport....one to give them at at the interview and one to keep for yourself because you leave your passport with them.

CanadaQuestions about preparing interview items

I have it on my list to bring the 864, even though I have read that you only need the 134. We are just going to bring both and not worry about it.

It's on the list because that checklist is used for more than K1 visas. You only need the I-134 for K1 visas. When you get to the AOS stage you will need the I-864.

CanadaQuestions about preparing interview items

Hey, so, I am the beneficiary for a K visa and I am still working on scheduling an appointment at Montreal at the moment. I just had some questions about the documents that I need to take with me to the interview. I am asking this because the "Checklist" states that I need to bring "the original and one photocopy of each of the following documents (as applicable)" and I just want to make sure that these documents are applicable to my case because I worry too much lol and am panicking about things a bit. I just don't want to miss out anything I need to take.

1) Evidence of Domicile
I was under the impression that this was only required if your U.S. citizen fiance was not living in the U.S. currently, but is it required even if he is living there already?

2) Affidavit of Support/Evidence of Support
On the checklist both Affidavit of Support (I-134) and Evidence of Support (I-864) are listed as documents to bring, but I was under the impression that as a K visa applicant I only need the Affidavit of Support (I-134). Is this correct or do I need both forms?

Thanks so much :)

I took copies of Kenny's voter's registration card and drivers license and a few other things but was never asked for them.

You only need the I-134 for K1 interview....you will need the I-864 for AOS down the road.

Great... Thanks Jeannie!!! ... We are flying from Halifax to Chicago but there is a connecting flight in NY... Chicago is my destination City we will be living in Great Lakes Illinois!

CanadaPOE Halifax Airport

My apologies for my post concerning the POE part. I was in Halifax a few years ago and immigration was not there then. But, you still need to allow more time for connection then 45 minutes. That is cutting it close. Does the airline you are connecting with have a later flight that day?

It's only been since I think 2004 since Halifax did all the renovations and US customs came in. I do agree that 45 minutes isn't much time between flights even if you don't have to pick up luggage. But then again JFK is probably one of the easiest airports to get around in. Most airlines have their own sections so when you land at a gate your next gate is not far. I usually fly Delta into JFK then on to RIC. They don't book much time between flights, most times I didn't have time to even grab a sandwich.
JeannieLFemaleCanada2011-09-22 20:15:00
CanadaPOE Halifax Airport

Courtney....My POE was in Halifax.....Since you are flying directly into the US you will go through customs and do your POE in Halifax. When you arrive at JFK you will be a domestic and not have to gather your luggage. It is the way to go! My POE took about 20 minutes and most of that was small talk with the officer doing the paperwork. She was super nice. If you want to know more about POEing in Halifax let me know :-)

The option was not there for me to edit so I am replying....When you land in Chicago you won't have to gather your luggage as it will be a domestic flight. You will just pick your luggage up in NY......Are you getting a cheaper flight going all the way to Chicago then back to NY? NY is only just over an hour flight from Halifax. The international gates open 3 hours before boarding. You should try to be there when the gates open or just before, it is a small area and it does get congested at busy times. I was the first in line at the check in counter, so I was the first through security and first into customs.
JeannieLFemaleCanada2011-09-22 18:38:00

POE is for the arriving in the USA not Canada and I would like to suggest giving yourself more time then 45 minutes. You do not know if your flight will depart from Halifax on time, you will need to go thru security again in NYC. I would suggest at least an hour or more for connecting flights.

She will NOT have to go through security in NY if she leaves from Halifax. Halifax airport (Stanfield International Airport) has US customs pre clearance so that when you fly directly into the US you have already gone through customs.

Canadacopies to bring to montreal interview

Hi,

I have a question regarding all the copies of all the forms that need to be brought for the Montreal interview. Do I need to update the forms with my visits to the USA for form DS-230 and DS-156 if I have made more visits from the time these forms were sent with the I-129 and packet 3 until when I go for my interview? I have made a few trips to the states to see my fiance in Michigan from btwn the time packet 3 was sent and the interview date which is next month so just wondering do i have to update the dates of my visits as well as the date of the signature of these forms for packet 4 when I bring them to the interview OR do I just make straight copies of what i had sent in packet 3 without updating the dates of visits or anything to take to the interview along with the originals, of course. any help would be appreciated. thanks so much.

I took an accordion style folder with copies of everything that we had sent in and everything that was requested to bring to the interview that were on the checklist. The only thing that I was asked for was the things on the checklist. Make a copy of anything original, such as birth certificate....they will keep the copies and give you back the originals. You do not need to update anything about visits after the packet 3 was sent. They will ask you at the interview if you have and any trouble entering the US and of course you will be truthful. You can mention at that time that you have made more trips since if you want. Back to the paperwork...I think it is better to have more than enough with you than not enough, if they request something you will have it and not have to send it in after and have more waiting :-)

CanadaHow can i pay visa fee online?
They have changed that site since I booked mine. When I booked there was an option to get around paying online. I'm not sure that is there now. Even so, you will be happy to have paid before the interview. You won't have to carry the cash around Montreal and also it cuts down on a step at the interview making it go faster. I was happy to have paid when booking :-) . There are many people waiting for interviews, I hope that Montreal opens up some soon. There are other posts about Montreal and booking if you look through the Canada forum :-)

From what I have heard from others trying to book their interview is that you cannot make a payment until there are interview spots opened on the calendar. Check as often as you can, the interviews get grabbed up quickly. Good luck!
