Unfortunately you got someone that doesn't know much. Montreal does not schedule for you for K1 interviews. Montreal does not take phone calls. You can email them but I wouldn't bother. What I suggest is call back, you will get someone different. Now that you know that packet 3 has been logged ask if packet 4 has been sent. You should wait until you get packet 4 or word of packet 4 before scheduling your medical. They will ask you when you call to book the medical if you have received your interview letter and you take that with you to the medical.

My fiance filed a petition for me,which has been approved.She said i should be expecting a packet from the embassy in Nigeria.

After three weeks i didnt get anything from them,so we decided to send a mail,which we did.Some few days after,they sent me an interview date with an attachment of documents to fill out.

Please what do i do with the forms because it was not stated on the information sent to me.

and wat other documents do i need for k1 visa

I would love to help you but I am not sure of the procedure at the Nigerian consulate. My suggestion is to repost your question in the Nigeria forum. Thanks Jeannie for your speedy response and the information. I tried calling them after work today and I was on hold for about 20 mins but no one really picked up, then it was past 5 and I think they don't answer after 5. I'll do that first thing tomorrow morning.

Another quick follow up question for you since you seem pretty knowledgable, what should I do about the appointments though, I was just trying on usvisa-info.com site (The new CSC system they have for DHL and scheduling), there are no appointments available. Is there anotehr website that I'm not aware of? How do I schedule an appointment if it keeps telling me there aren't any available?

I believe that DOS is in the DC area. I googled the phone number way back when and that was the result I got. Sometimes the wait time is long to get through to someone but sometimes it can be very quick.

The website that you have will be the right one. You should not be trying to schedule until you are told you can. From what I have been reading on other peoples posts is that they are not seeing available dates until they actually pay the interview fee. Someone may correct me on this. Once you schedule you can keep checking back for earlier dates. Quite often new dates open up.

You need to call DOS at 1-202-663-1225 press 1 for main menu then right away press 0 for an operator. Ask them if your packet 3 has been logged. If it has ask them if packet 4 has been sent and if you are eligible for an interview. DO NOT schedule until they tell you that you are eligible for an interview. You don't have to wait for physical packet 4 to arrive just for them to tell you you can schedule.

Ours was approved in about 4 months. You don't set up his interview to be at Montreal it is determined by where he lives. You or he will book your interview after packet 3 has been sent to Montreal and logged then packet 4 sent to you. You have plenty of time, relax then look at the the requirements for packet 3. Your fiance can check with his family Dr to see if all his immunizations are up to date etc.

Please go to the guides on this site and follow the K1 fiance guide as to what to send. We followed the guide and had no problems what so ever. We did use a cover letter and listed everything that we were sending. The order of what was on the cover letter is the order we sent the package in. We sent a few boarding passes, 4 pictures, a few pages of yahoo chats, we used gmail for chatting on cam and voice, they have a great way to print records of those chats so we sent a few pages of that and a few phone bills.

I will stress...make copies of everything! Make a duplicate copy of the package you are sending for yourself.

So this is pretty self expanatory, you guys think I should contact DOS/Montreal in regards to extending the expiratation date on the I797 approval notice? I have read somewhere that they would automatically adjust it if your case hasn't been completed?

Has anyone gone through this?

You don't need to contact anyone. It will automatically be extended because you are in Montreal's system. Mine was out of date before I had my interview. I hope you get your interview date soon :-) I did get your email this morning, I will reply in a few minutes.

I've been gathering proof of having met within the last two years and I came across some doubts. This is for I-129F:

1.I have plane tickets, greyhound tickets, things under my name mailed to her place (I would actually like to know if it's a good idea to submit this), and tons of pictures together. Is this enough?!

2.Must the pictures meet any preferable characteristic?
i.e: preferably full frontal face of us or us kissing.

3.We skype everyday and facebook message each other all day long. We do not talk on the phone and don't send e-mails to each other. She's coming to Brazil this year so she has the plane ticket to come here. Do these count as enough proof of an ongoing relationship? The only proof of ongoing relationship I have besides those are letters I sent to her and a mail package she sent to me. Should this be ok or should I go after additional things? If so, any hints on that?!

I included a few boarding passes. Tickets themselves are not proof that you traveled. I included 6 photos of us together at different times. I also included a page of phone calls and a couple chat pages. No need to overload them with paperwork they will probably not even look at. All they want to know is that you have met in the past 2 years in person.

As my title says I recieved packet 4 today.

There is no appointment date in packet 4, Do I need to set my own date or does the Montreal Consulate do that?

I checked usvisa.info.com ( where you set up your DHL courier location) and didn't see anything to do with setting up an appointment date.

It would help if you edited your profile to let us know what visa you are applying for. If it is K1 visa yes you book yourself on the website. Read your packet 4 for instructions and read previous posts from others about the back log at Montreal with no appointments available. Good luck.

She is not to open the contents of her medical. She will give it to the consulate when she has her interview. When her visa is returned she will be given another envelope to give the officers at her POE. Her medical will be opened by them and forwarded on to USCIS and will be there for when she does her AOS. She must not open anything. Along with my medical there was a vaccination paper for my records, I'm not sure if every country does that or not. This was for me to send in with my AOS. Her medical is good for one year....I hope that clarified your questions.

You list her current address in the US first if she is living in the US with you....Then after that would be her address in China and any before that. Look at your last G-325A that you filled out for her for the I-29F packet.....Use the addresses that you put there for her but add the US address to the top. Hope that answered your question.

Mine was back in April but it took exactly a week from my interview until visa was ready for pick up at the DHL location. I got an email saying that it was picked up a the consulate. The next morning I got a call from DHL saying it was ready for me to pick up. There is no consistency to how and when they get printed and sent out. Have you called DOS to see if it was printed yet? Fingers crossed that you get it before he has to go back.

After our petition was sent to the consulate it was DOS that we contacted for any information about it. The Montreal consulate does not accept phone calls either and emails are not always answered.......If I were you I would try calling DOS and see if they might know.

I hope you can get the paper that they requested at the interview.

Those sample cover letters need to be changed. At the time those were made you had 3 choices as to where to send your package depending on where you lived in the country. Now they all go to Texas and are forwarded to the service center that is going to be handling your application.

The OP originally was asking if they could use an address that would be closest to their biometrics, and the answer is no. If you are going to put an address to whom the packet is going to use the address that you are sending it to or nothing as J&S did. As I said the proper way to do a cover letter of any sort is to use the address as to where the letter is being sent (as on the outside of the envelope) and the address of the person who is sending it. There will not be an RFE for something so trivial as not using an address.

A proper cover letter has the address of where the letter is going and also whom it was from. The OP should put the address that he/she is sending it to on the cover letter. I gave the 2 options of where it is to be sent, either one of those addresses should be on the cover letter.

OP is asking about the Cover Letter that goes with the package.

You do not need to put this address anymore. As I understand it, when those examples were made, they did not have people mail their form to the lockbox first. When I did my Cover Letter, I simply omitted this on the cover letter.

They will forward it to either Vermont or California depending on where you live. You don't do biometrics until AOS stage, you will go to the service center nearest you for that.

My fiancee is from Winnipeg and we could pick either consulate. Makes me glad we chose Vancouver...


You were very fortunate to have had Vancouver :-) Montreal is one of the slowest consulates. Vancouver has electronic filing where Montreal still requires that you fill out the forms and mail/courier them back, maybe one day they will catch up :-)

Me and my fiancee did ours through Vancouver, but I'll echo that I don't think you need a packet 4. All it is is a letter telling you the webpage where to schedule your interview. We got ours about 1 week after packet 3.

All you need to schedule your medical is a letter with your case number on it which should be MON#######. Ours was included on our packet 3. I also as the USC received a letter in the mail even before my fiance got packet 3 with the case number on it that should work. As long as you have a case number, you should be able to schedule an interview.


Packet 4 from Montreal is a letter telling how to schedule the interview and medical. MTL are the first three letters in the Montreal case numbers. At the medical in Toronto or Montreal proof of the packet 4/letter is needed at the time of the medical. Vancouver does things a little different than Montreal...too bad because Vancouver's system is so much more efficient.

Use your legal name on all the forms. It doesn't matter what name your bank account is in. I have always gone by my middle name but on all the forms I had to use my first name. Many things that I sent in were in my middle name and they did not question it.

It would be best to keep your letter of intent simple. Follow the letter that is in the guides. They just want to know that you will get married within the 90 days after you arrive in the US on your visa.

You will do another updated one for your interview.

The note on how you met you can elaborate a little more, but don't make it too long. I included a few visits after the first visit and the one we had planned next.

Send a few pictures together. A couple pages of phone records, email chats, passport stamps or boarding passes.

You won't need to write and explanation of the different date of the boarding pass when you send in the I-129F. Just send the copies of the boarding passes that you have. You have one picture together of one visit. Do you have other pictures together from other visits? If so include those. Send a few pages of emails, chats and phone records.
