USCIS Service CentersHOW TO KNOW IF A CASE IS TOUCHED

Thanks for the encouragement. I wasn't planning on it, but then found this posting about my local office, which said that it is very easy. Maybe tomorrow my wife will have time.

USCIS Service CentersHOW TO KNOW IF A CASE IS TOUCHED

Hello If you want a quick processing of your case, go ahead and do a walk-in Biometrics instead of waiting for September....I had my Biometrics done early as well. This will speed up your case processing...Just an advice because it works for many.

USCIS Service CentersHOW TO KNOW IF A CASE IS TOUCHED
I just added our new I-751 receipt number to the "My Portfolio" section. No recent touches. I had to laugh when I saw our old receipt numbers in the "My Portfolio" section, one for the I-129F and the other for the I-130, both last updated 6/04/08. God, . . . I remember how confusing that all was with everyone on VJ trying to figure out which was the best route to go, I-129F or I-130? Mass confusion. It was impossible to explain to my wife. In comparison, this phase is a breeze (so far!). So much so that I have a hard time getting too excited about it.

QUOTE (VivaBaños @ Jul 11 2008, 05:36 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi everyone.

You can probably guess where my husband is from based upon my display name here!

I mailed in the I-864 this week and am hoping all of that goes through smoothly. Unfortunately, I discovered that I forgot to include a cover sheet for that packet, so I pray it doesn't get sent back just for that.

Assuming the I-864 is accepted, any idea on how long we have before the interview is set? After the struggles some folks have had with this new "matrimonial interview" in Guayaquil, I'm trying to get an idea of when (the earliest) that could occur.

Thanks!

Hi There! Take a look at these timelines. It looks like between 45-60 days after case complete.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaBreaks in Diplomatic Relations -- Visas Still Issued?
Thanks to all for the comments. I feel better. I talked to people around the nation's capital today and heard the same answer from everyone . . . that the embassies/consulates don't typically close in situations such as these. Also, 24 hours have passed and Correa hasn't pulled the trigger. I heard he spent the day with Alan Garcia in Lima, who passes for an adult in South American politics. That probably helped. I read the dailies in Ecuador all day and didn't see any hints that there are any moves afoot to boot Ambassador Hodges. whew!

If Correa decides to follow suit, does that mean the consulates and embassies en Mi Lindo Ecuador will shut their doors? Has anyone heard of visa interviews in Bolivia or Venezuela being cancelled?

Mexico, Latin & South Americawhere can ecuadorians travel to?
See examples from Mexico and Panama below. You just have to go to the government website of whichever country they are interested in. The degree of hassle depends on where in Ecuador your friend lives. If they live in Guayaquil or Quito, it won't be such a big deal because there are embassies and consulates there. But my wife lives in Machala, which is 4 hours south of Guayaquil. For her to be going back and forth to Guayaquil to deliver documents to the foreign consulates just didn't make sense for us. I tried dealing with the Panamanian Embassy here but they weren't that helpful. Just like the USA, they want to see evidence of a GOOD job in Ecuador, pay stubs, bank accounts, etc. And it's not like they just give it to you right away, I think for most they require you to wait, which makes it hard to schedule travel.

Mexico, Latin & South Americawhere can ecuadorians travel to?
We looked at both Panama and Mexico, but both require a intrusive formal process not unlike an immigrant visa in the USA! (Anyone sensing the irony of Mexico being unwelcoming to foreigners?) I imagine that, like we were, your friends are looking for a place that is CLOSER to the USA than is Ecuador? That's a tough one. The travel agent my wife talked to had mentioned the Dominican Republic, but it required two different flight connections for her to get there and we lost interest.

As mentioned above, Ecuador does have an agreement within the Andean Community (CAN) that allows free travel to Bolivia, Colombia, and Peru. My wife and I went to Peru once and it was very easy, but that doesn't solve the problem of being CLOSER to the USA. Venezuela used to be in the CAN but I'm not sure you want to go there these days as it has the highest murder rate in the world right now (but the gas is cheap). Colombia is an option, but it isn't that much closer. I have heard that Argentina had an open border policy (to South Americans), but again, that's twice the distance. Probably would recommend talking to an experienced travel agent in Ecuador (obviously, not a good line of business to be in!). Finally, with respect to one of the notes above, I wouldn't recommend anyone intending to come to the USA in the future to travel through Cuba as such a passport stamp would probably draw unwanted attention.

I had an odd experience. According to NVC automatic AVR, my "case complete" date changed. Initially, it was July 30th but yesterday I called and it had changed to "August 5th." Any idea of what that might mean?

Just figured it out. It relates to the "RFE" that I got asking me to pay the IV fee! In addition to calling and speaking with the NVC operator on July 23rd, I also went ahead and replied to the RFE by sending in (via USPS) my IV fee payment receipt and other bank evidence. On Aug. 5th, NVC sent me a letter (which I got today) saying that they received my RFE reply and that all is OK. That's why the "Case Complete" date changed from July 30th to Aug. 5th. I called the operator to verify this (We don't have our interview date yet).

I used the bottom one. But don't worry about it. They will figure it out. What they do it open your package and scan the barcode. The barcode is the same on both. They will then see your file on their computer screen. It will say that you paid and they will start reviewing your file. No problem!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)urgent about the ds230
I don't really think it will matter because even though I used the on-line payment, the NVC also sent me, via snail-mail, a form that I could use to pay via snail-mail that looked exactly like what you see on James's Shortcuts. As long as it has the case number on it, you'll be fine. They have a separate computer system that (or at least, is supposed to) tells them if you paid. Just putting the cover sheet in the package doesn't tell them anything. They look at their computer system to see if you paid. (In my case, even though I had paid, it told them that I hadn't--but that's another story--It's all fixed now anyway).
ArlingtonMaleEcuador2008-08-05 22:37:00
National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC Online Payment System with Pictures
I had exactly the same experience as goodluck. My payment cleared on 7/10 and I was able to print the barcode cover sheet immediately. I sent the DS-230 package the same day via express mail (USPS) and it was received on 7/14 (Mon). I called AVR on 7/15 (Tues) and the message said that my checklist materials had been received. I next called AVR on 7/17 (Thurs) but the message said there were missing documents and that a letter had been sent on 7/17. I patiently waited for the deficiency letter that finally arrived on 7/22 (Tues). It simply said that I need to pay my IV fee!

I talked with an operator, Amy, on 7/23 (Wed) morning who said that the fees were indeed paid, and that this was a problem stemming from on-line payment (which has caused many problems for them). She said everything else about our application looked to be in order and that she would let her supervisor know and that I would probably have a "case complete" in 10-15 days.

Based on this experience, I would recommend that everyone using the on-line payment also submit some proof of IV fee payment, in addition to the barcode sheet (there is a Dept. of State receipt that you can print on-line as well as any of your own bank payment information), along with your DS-230 package.

I just called AVR again (7/24) and it is still saying the same thing (that I am missing documentation), so I went ahead and sent in a copy of my D.O.S. receipt and my bank transaction information to NVC along with the checklist barcode cover sheet.

Ha ha!! I did the same thing. I just used "print screen" to capture the "table of contents" so to speak. It just showed how many chats there had been and the dates. I had to scroll the screen and re-do the "print screen" to get the entire list. Google the words "print screen" for instructions on how to do it. It's easy.

That's right. I didn't do anything like an expedite. Nor did I ever call VSC or even Customer Service (thanks to VJ, I knew what that would get me).
