Today I had an interview at 1PM and I was there around 12:15 and the officer called me around 1:30PM..Officer was nice and went thru my application and asked me following questions

1)When was the Declaration of Independence adopted?
2)What do we call the first ten amendments to the Constitution?
3)Name one of the two longest rivers in the United States.
4)Who lived in America before the Europeans arrived?
5)What is the name of the Speaker of the House of Representatives now?
6)We elect a President for how many years?

and the officer told me that I am passed and congrajulated and asked me to go for oath at 4PM ..Oath ceremony started @ 4:15PM and it was done by 5:10PM and came down to register for voting. I am happy that I am US Citizen now.

Thanks for all you guys who shared the experience and supported all the way..and best wishes for the guys who are inline.:-)

Congratulations! I told my wife she didn't need to worry about the Speaker of the House question because even English speakers cannot pronounce it. You did well to get it correct! :thumbs:

Oh wow... I just went to change the list and realized we don't have anything to change yet (DUH), but I also noticed pkash had their interview yesterday, too! Maybe we were there at the same time!!! I hope it went well for you!


Congratulations! Funny story about the "I will not kick the soccer ball"! Good to know that spouses are allowed in.
My guess on the oath is that their judge was from the Eastern District of VA and that the EDVA has a slightly different jurisdiction than the USCIS field office. Here is something I found about the Western District of VA that mentions Charlottesville: http://www.vawd.usco...aturalization/.

Congrats! That is odd about your I-751. Hope all goes well!

Interview(12/08/2011) update :

1. The officer went through the details filled in N 400 application
2. Reading/writing English, followed by civic test
3. Told me that my I 751 still pending, so they may schedule another interview , If i don't hear anything from USCIS in 90 days make INFOPASS appointment to inquire.

I filed N400 in July and completed my FP on 8/23/11. I am waiting for Interview from Fairfax, VA office. The web site shows lot of backlog in this office. Does anyone can give educated guess when I can expect interview. I would like to hear the experience of people who filed in May from Washington DC/Fairfax VA Office. I read few people from May just received the interview notice. Anything I can do to expedite the process? Thanks

Nine months and counting here, but then again we are doing a name change, which requires coordination with a federal district court. We could have been done a couple of months ago if not for that.

Our interview letter finally arrived! Can someone update me on the list? Our interview is scheduled for 1/4/12. We received the letter on 12/2. I need to do a little more research, but is it always the case that the Oath Ceremony is scheduled for a different date?

Thanks Arlington! Where are you on the list? I'm not sure about the other two people....sometimes there is such a large time span between steps that they forget to log back in to update.

My husband has been studying a lot since he had biometrics taken over the summer. The book USCIS provided has been really helpful. I like to test him because it also tests myself! :lol: As a USC, I SHOULD know all the answers, but I didn't at first.

I went back and read through the thread since I last posted and everyone has received their oath ceremony on a different date. This is better because we'd like to have a few other family members attend since it's such an important occasion.

Are USC allowed back during the testing? I know my husband will be so nervous, I think it might help for me to be there.


We are from the July list. We did fingerprints about 2 weeks after you. If you look at Maya62's interview review in the May list from just yesterday, she said that she went in with her husband. I think for my wife, it would make her more nervous for me to be in there, but we'll see. When the weather was still warm, we tried to go to as many historical sites that related to the 100 questions as possible. My wife is a visual learner like that! Congrats again and good luck.

I was wondering about the June filers! What happened to the other two DC people (cruzfreak and umdterrapins)??? By the end of this week, all of the DC May people will have finished their interviews.

Welcome! You should join our July filers thread; our timelines are similar (fingerprints in mid-Aug). We will likely have our interviews in late January, based on what I'm seeing. If you look here at the timelines for May filers, you'll see there are 3 people from DC (the April thread doesn't have anybody from DC, so that doesn't help), but only one, Maya62, has gotten their interview letter. They did fingerprints in late June, so they got their letter about four months after fingerprints. The delays for the earlier threads (see February thread) were about 2-3 months from fingerprints to letter, so DC does seem to be slowing down. :whistle: None of the 3 DC people in the June filers thread has received a letter yet, but there is one June filer, "Niki," (see the "unusual attitude" thread) who isn't on the June filers thread, but who recently had her interview (says she did fingerprints in July).

I think reverification is just the final step. It only took two weeks for us. We wouldn't have known that reverification was required unless we had involved our senator's office. That's what we heard from them. Hopefully you will hear soon!

This happened to us. The same day my wife passed her interview we got an RFE email. Officer had not said anything in interview about needing anything else. After a more than a month of not getting anything in the mail, I called the field office and they said they didn't send an RFE and they were just waiting for another name check. Now we are approved and in the oath queue. Never got an RFE. I think this "RFE" status is used by them when they need something internally, like a name check or a higher-level approval. I've seen many posts that indicate similar experiences. Good luck!

You can call, but what they'll tell you is they have 120 days from your interview until they have to make a decision. If you haven't heard by then, then you can start contacting them and your congressional representatives. Check out our timeline.

You say that the on-line status is that the "interview" is set, or the "oath ceremony"? As you can see from our status, my wife passed her interview in January and we are still waiting for an oath date. As the poster said, it depends on your local office and if you are doing a name change.

after my interview and the sad news that i will be in AP "Administrative processing"

i was panic and kinda saying why why why i cannot wait anymore i wanna leave now

but guess what.?
now i thank God that i did not get my visa right away.u know why?

cuz now after 6 days from my interview. my mom got sick and tomorrow is her surgery "remember her in ur prayer and supplication plz"

Harpa and NLR, thanks for your input. I feel like I have a few options now, at least.

 

If you file for and somehow obtain a K-3 visa you will be permitted to come to the US. You will have to pay for and file to Adjust Status. Very expensive.

 

That's honestly not an issue at all. I'll be losing significantly more money by staying Canada since employment options are limited (I can't speak french, but live in Montreal) and once my student loans run out, I'll have to transfer savings money over from Iran (it seems like your husband is Iranian, so you may have some idea of how much that can cost right now)

You can visit.  It is perfectly legal.  No one is ever guaranteed entry, but most people visit with no problems.

Well that sounds nice. What would you say is a safe amount of time for a visit? Could I stay for a few months, for example? Or should I stick to shorter visits?

Haha it's okay. And that is. That's the part that scares me to be honest. I'll be graduating at the end of April and won't be able to work because I'm in Montreal and don't know French (i.e. veryyyy limited job opportunities). I have very few prospects for ties other than my apartment lease, which expires on Aug. 31st... hence the insistence on the K3. I'm getting mixed information regarding whether I can visit or not, but I feel like my case is less convincing than most others.

Aren't the approval periods for the I-130 and I-129f vastly different at this point though (i.e. the I-129f is much faster)? It seems a bit unfair to match them up like that. :(

The two petitions will be matched together, approved at the same time (on the I-130 timeline), then the I-129F will be administratively closed at NVC and you will be on the CR-1 path whether you like it or not.

But if the I-129f is hypothetically approved prior to the I-130, the K3 is technically obtainable, no?

Hi guys,

 

I had a question regarding the adjustment following approval of a K3. I live in Montreal, Canada and just applied for the I-130; I'll be applying for a K3 as soon as we receive our NOA1 (because it's free, so why not?) in hopes of being able to move to D.C. (where my husband is) earlier. If I do though, I really don't want to apply for an Adjustment of Status because 1) It's cheaper for me to just bus/fly back to Montreal for an interview as opposed to pay the filing fee for I-485; and 2) The AOS seems to take longer than continuing on with the I-130 IR1/CR1 route. 

 

I'm wondering I can make that choice, or will I need definitely need to file the I-485 by law? Has anyone (especially from Canada) done this before? I'd really appreciate any help!
