And also my yellow letter say that i have to bring originals or certified copies of all arrest records and court disposition showing how each incident was resolved...i had one dui in 2009 and it was misdeminor the case was droped with 6 month prohibition and the wierd things i already submited it with my application and send it.i dont if its gonna be a big deal or not? Also dont know how to get it certified.any advice plz?

I would say that it's cheaper for USCIS to send a copy rather then printing it on the old style of papers. Saving money. I could be wrong but it makes sense to me lol.

Good news! We went to an InfoPass appointment today and they gave us an oath date! We told them my wife wanted to vote and that the deadline for registration is October 15th. They had an extra court date (Sept. 27) that wasn't on the published schedule. We are very happy! :dance: We'll be even happier when we get our letter.

Wow, it's so long. Has she changed her name? Why is that taking so long? Some of my friends passed their interviews in March and were scheduled to take their oath in 6 weeks. They already got their US passports. We all submited our paperwork in the same State and the same USCIS office in Arlington.


No idea. They said that they were doing name checks after her interview. Maybe they need to do more name checks on a new name? Why they don't do that at the same time as the other name checks, I don't know. Also, this office is really backed-up. Like I said, they'll never explain it to us. All we got was one sentence statements like "your case has been delayed for name checks."

Thanks for your insight all. It has already been 45 days. We made an appointment and went to the office and they indicated that it can take up to 120 days, in April at the earliest. We took back the request for the name change and hoping that we will now end up in the administrative files soon and get called to the oath ceremony.

Use the "tax return transcript" option. This is the IRS's own report of what you reported to them. It is more reliable than photocopying returns because anybody could print off forms and fill them out and then sign them and say that this is what they sent into the IRS, but the transcript shows what you actually did send in to the IRS.

One thing for you (the USC) to consider is what your career is; for U.S. citizens working for the U.S. military or government, especially those requiring security clearances, adding a second citizenship may cause big problems, quite apart from immigration law.

Fellow VJers... please help me understand my options...

Here is the short version

1. We (actually my spouse) applied in March 2012 for N-400.
2. Fingerprint was done in April 2012.
3. Due to delay in getting to the next step, we called USCIS and talked to Tier-2 case officer 2 weeks ago. He acknolwedged that Fingerprints were done and he didn't see any further actions on the file. He said he put in request to local office to look into case.
4. Now, we got a letter in mail that our "Fingerprints were expired and need to be taken again". We got a location and date to get fingerprints done again.

I am so pissed off right now that we have to do the process again. How can I speed this process up? Can I request 'expediated' or 'premium' processing to speed up the case? I don't want to wait another 5 months after fingerprints again. Please guide me if anyone has faced this and what are my best options?

Sounds like your phone call woke somebody up. :bonk: Instead of getting upset, you might think of this as a bit of progress. Many fingerprint offices will allow you to go in early on a walk-in basis. Now that you have the letter, you may be able to take care of this right now. If you're signed up for email updates, after your fingerprints, you should get an email saying that you have been placed in line for interview scheduling. Then you can go for an InfoPass appointment, contact your congressman, etc. My advice would be to just go do the fingerprints. It can only help. It is odd though because I thought fingerprints were good for a year, but maybe they didn't register, or something strange like that, and somebody just got around to figuring this out.

I didn't see you mention the marriage certificate (with translation). Also, it asks for "Documents referring to you and your spouse" and has a three-item list (a), (b), and ©. The conjunction is "or" but we chose to submit both (a) and (b) items. In addition to the IRS tax transcripts, we threw in a couple of bank statements, a copy of our lease, car title and registration, copies of our driver's licenses, and our daughter's birth certificate and passport page. No photos; no boarding passes, but I sure kept some of each and had them in our package for the interview. (They didn't ask for anything additional at the interview.) After being a member on VisaJourney for almost 5 years, I've seen plenty of reasons to be cautious. You never know when USCIS is going to run off the rails. :blink:

Hi,
I filed my N400 marriage based on june 1sr 2012, had my bios on 29th june and was placed inline for scheduling interview on july 27th, have'nt heard anything since then.
Just called uscis first rep says they can't place a service request until 27th oct. 2nd level rep says my finger prints has not been cleared from FBI yet.
wow this is weired coz online status says in this step they just schedule for interview.
I think once you are scheduled inline for interview you're cleared from FBI for your finger prints.
does this make any sense from level 2 rep ?
Secondly the job i'm doing requires a strict finger prints and background check and I passed it for 2 jobs and i'm doing infact those two jobs and had no problems from back ground checks what so ever.
What do you guys think the level 2 rep was just trying to avoid me or she was right ?
please suggest.

You are in a busy district. The timeline is not unusual. It was almost 6 months for my wife between "placed in line" email and interview. They work at their own pace; nothing personal. USCIS naturalizes almost one million people per year.

I had to go to page 39 of the forum list of topics to find our original group's timeline. I did this to report that we just got an email saying that we were placed in the queue for oath scheduling. A nice 4th of July present! More than 5 months after my wife passed her interview! Wow! I never thought it would take this long. Because the court only does oaths once per month, I'm not sure if we will be able to get into the July ceremony (which is on the 19th, I think).

Thanks for asking. No. Because she's doing a name change, we have to wait for a date at the fed. district court, which is only once a month. Maybe we'll get in for April? I'm not betting on it.

I passed the interview on January 3, 2012 and still waiting for my ceremony letter. I was doing a name change so I couldn't do the oath on the same day. Any idea how long I must wait for the ceremony? My name change was approved on January 13 and the status says that I'm in line to be scheduled for the ceremony. How often are they performed? thanks in advance!


Once a month, on 3rd Thursdays. We are in the same situation as you, but for less time (passed interview on Jan. 30th). Good luck for getting February date!

My wife passed her test today! :dance: Thanks Be to God! Now we wait for a slot in federal district court for an oath (she is changing her name). They only do it once a month, so if we don't get into the February ceremony (officer was not promising anything) we have to wait until mid-March. Thanks to VJ for the fantastic amount of help! We were way overprepared; they didn't ask for anything other than what we had already sent in.

Questions were (1) first 10 amendments; (2) who is Speaker of House; (3) Longest River; (4) Who is the President now; (5) When was the Declaration of Independence adopted; (6) Who lived in North America before the colonists came; (7) When do we celebrate Independence Day. She had to write something like "Independence Day is in July".
