You know what I dislike? How some leafs fans jump ship...last year for example.

You can't be a leafs fan and jump to the enemies ship when all else fails. You either are a leafs fan or you aren't.

The Islanders and I were born about the same time. My parents used to put my crib in front of the TV so I could watch the games. laughing.gif So I have a feeling I will be an Isles fan until I die. Which may be the next time they win a Cup!

Coincidentally I just received this joke email:

I just wanted to give you a warning that if you are heading up toward the Toronto area on the 401 highway this week.
The Ontario Provincial Police are cracking down on speeders.

For the first offence they are giving two tickets to the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game.
If you are stopped the second time they make you use them!!!!

j/k! Yeah, the Caps suck but as long as they are not playing the Islanders I will root for them. At least they seem to be doing a bit better with the new coach.

CanadaVA Drivers license!!!!!!
Silly Scott! Derek and I were just at the DMV ourselves renewing his license with his 751 letter. I was braced for the worse and....nothing bad happened. They didn't even blink an eye, renewed his license for another year and we were out within an hour. Of course we have to back next year and do it all over again, sigh.

As for a renewal notice, I don't remember getting one when mine expired last year so I wonder how often they actually go out.

Quite honestly I don't really understand why they don't accept expired licenses for things like the ABC Store, etc. I mean it's not like you have gotten any younger!

CanadaWhat are you guys doing for American income taxes?
Just thinking about taxes gives me a headache! Last year's was a bit a of a nightmare since D had Canadian income earned in Canada, Canadian income earned in the US and US income earned in the US. Long story short, we hired an accountant. Who still has not billed us almost a year later. But that's another story. whistling.gif

Anyway, here is a link to another forum that specializes in US/CA tax issues. I have found it very helpful and at the very least someone there might be able to help out.

CanadaCar insurance
I have Electric Insurance which has been pretty good though I am bit pissed that they raised our rates this year. No accidents but a speeding ticket a few years back which might be the culprit. whistling.gif Anway, we have a yearly policy and pay monthly but I know a few places (I think Progressive) which offers a lower rate if you can pay all at once. We have 2 cars and I think we are carrying a $100,000/$300,000 policy with either $250 or $500 deductibles depending on the car for less than $75 a month. And I have been meaning to call and see if we can switch over our Renter's Insurance from State Farm and see if that lowers our rates a bit.

laughing.gif I thought DC drivers were bad and NY drivers were aggressive but then I visited Montreal where they are bad AND aggressive. Derek used to make fun of me, saying how much road rage I had while driving. But the first time I went to Montreal, he got into an argument with some other driver. He had one hand on the horn, one finger out the window and was yelling like a banshee. In French of course. I just cracked up!

CanadaAnyone in Montreal?
Derek and I are supposed to drive up to Montreal on Saturday, spend a few days there and then head to my Mom's in Vermont to spend a few days and then drive back to DC. But on Tuesday I spoke with my mother-in-law and she says that Montreal is still snowed under, that the streets and sidewalks are a mess, that there is no parking and for our own safety she doesn't think we should come unless the situation improves. crying.gif

And then this morning I read IR5's report on driving through the storm in a Yaris and somebody else who also said the city still hasn't plowed. What's up with that, btw? I mean I expect an inch of snow to paralyze DC for a week or so, but Montreal?! My Mom is only about 2 hours south near Burlington, VT, which got just as much snow and is completely fine. So we may just end up going to my Mom's first, spending a few days and then borrowing her car with 4 wheel drive and snow tires for a day trip up to Montreal.

But in the meantime, anyone currently in Montreal? How's it looking?

Yup, still raining here at about 9pm. But I was pleasantly surprised yesterday when we arrived that the main streets in the burbs were all very clear. The block that D's parent's live on was another story but even that wasn't too bad. Basically huge mounds of snow all over the place and parking has gotten a bit creative.

Here's hoping that the rain tonight doesn't turn to ice overnight. We are planning on driving down to Vermont late morning and are keeping fingers crossed that the road conditions are as good as when we arrived on Saturday.

Derek still has his RBC account, VISA and a line of credit and for the 2 years that he has been here they have not had a problem with his address being in the US. Washington Capitals Honour
Canada's Troops on January 17, 2008

For the first time ever, an American NHL Team will pay tribute to Canada's sailors,
soldiers and Air Force personnel.

The Washington Capitals will salute the Canadian Forces (CF) on Thursday, January 17, when they play the Edmonton Oilers. Members of the army garrison in Edmonton will carry the National Flags and members of the CF will be recognized during the game.

Canadian military members will be easily recognized as they will be in various Canadian Forces uniforms.

Come cheer your favourite team and help honour Canada's troops. 10,000 attendees will receive a commemorative puck at the end of the game.

To order tickets, go to the Washington Capitals-Connect2Canada site, where you can receive exclusive offers for all Caps home games against teams from Canada. Save $15 on lower level and upper level seating. To obtain a block of seats have one person order all your tickets.

CanadaRenewing Passport
Dear Mr. Minister,

I'm in the process of renewing my passport, and still cannot believe
this. How is it that Radio Shack has my address and telephone number
and knows that I bought a t.v. cable from them back in 1997, and yet,
the Federal Government is still asking me where I was born and on
what date. For Christ sakes, do you guys do this by hand?

My birth date you have on my social insurance card, and it is on all
the income tax forms I've filed for the past 30 years. It is on my
health insurance card, my driver's license, on the last eight goddamn
passports I've had, on all those stupid customs declaration forms I've
had to fill out before being allowed off the planes over the last 30
years, and all those insufferable census forms that are done at election
times.

Would somebody please take note, once and for all, that my mother's
name is Maryanne, my father's name is Robert and I'd be absolutely
astounded if that ever changed between now and when I die!
I apologize, Mr. Minister. I'm really pissed off this morning.
Between you an' me, I've had enough of this bull$sh!t! You send the
application to my house, then you ask me for my @#&in' address.
What is going on? You have a gang of Neanderthals a$$holes workin'
there!

Look at my damn picture. Do I look like Bin Laden? I don't want to
dig up Yasser Arafat, for $hit sakes. I just want to go and park my
a$$ on a sandy beach. And would someone please tell me, why would you give a sh!t
whether I plan on visiting a farm in the next 15 days? If I ever got the
urge to do something weird to a chicken or a goat, believe you me, I'd
sure as hell not want to tell anyone!

Well, I have to go now, 'cause I have to go to the other end of the
city and get another @#%in copy of my birth certificate, to the tune
of $60! Would it be so complicated to have all the services in the
same spot to assist in the issuance of a new passport the same day??
Nooooo, that'd be too damn easy and maybe make sense. You'd rather
have us running all over the @#%in' place like chickens with our
heads cut off, leaving a big carbon footprint, then find some a$$hole
to confirm that it's really me on the goddamn picture - you know, the
one where we're not allowed to smile?! (@#%in morons) Hey, you know
why we can't smile? We're totally pissed off!

Signed - An Irate @#%ing Canadian Citizen.

P.S. Remember what I said above about the picture and getting someone
to confirm that it's me? Well, my family has been in this country
since 1776 when one of my forefathers took up arms against the
Americans. I have served in the military for something over 30 years
and have had security clearances up the yingyang. I was aide de
camp to the lieutenant governor of our province for ten years and I
have been doing volunteer work for the RCMP for about five years.
However, I have to get someone 'important' to verify who I am - you
know, someone like my doctor WHO WAS BORN AND RAISED IN
COMMUNIST @#%ing CHINA !!!
