You must have met before you file. It's a requirement.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRFE

May I ask one thing out of curiosity? Please don't get me wrong, I am not judgmental: how can people even think of filing a petition for a fiance they have never met in person? Aside from the immigration rules issue, but really, shouldn't it be a common sense requirement to meet at least a few times?

But they had met. They just hadn't met within the 2 year window. They met longer ago than 2 years. The OP states that they have a 6 year old child together.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresA question re: referencing letters
Photos are secondary evidence. We didn't have any when we filed for our K1, and so sent none. I took a few screenshots from the webcam for interview, but that was it. We weren't planning on needing photos either, and neither one of us is a fan of the camera. A friend I had here did have dinner with us twice during my first visit, and he simply put that down on paper, that he had seen us together and where. All he did was sign it, was not notarized.

We did submit boarding passes, itineraries, copies of passport pages that showed entry and exit stamps, receipts for times purchased with my NZ Mastercard in DC, things that showed that we were in the same place at the same time. At interview I took evidence of an ongoing relationship, plenty of email, chat longs, things of that nature.

Welcome to VJ. It's a great little resource, plenty of people who can point you in the right direction.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEmbassy interview

Some embassies won't let you in, I'm personally not relishing going to my fiance's interview in freezing Yerevan in a few weeks and having to wait outside, but alas, I want to be there for moral support.

Well he would have been ok in Auckland, it was our summer when I interviewed and cold here. We didn't think it necessary for him to go that distance for nothing really. Mind we are a bit of an older couple, 56 and 58 then. All I did do, was send him a photo from my cell phone of the American flag outside on the building as I was going in. So he would know I was there and getting started :)

Good luck to you both for the interview, be sure to bundle up well, that's a cold place!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEmbassy interview

Do you know for sure that Sydney, Australia makes the petitioner wait in the waiting area? There are plenty of consulates that allow both people into the interview, even encourage it. In Canada, I was specifically asked if my fiance was there with me.

However, since the OP is the US citizen, your post is incorrect regardless.

Exactly. If my husband, then fiance, had been in NZ, he would not have been allowed into the building. It's tricky when you make blanket statements when unfamiliar with practices in the various countries. Would be pretty annoying to go all the way there, only to be kept outside.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEmbassy interview
There is a good Australian group on here, they can be found under the regional discussions forums

http://www.visajourn...nd-new-zealand/

I cannot tell you if Sydney is the only place for his interview, but I do believe they won't pay for any travel he needs to do. Welcome to Visa Journey

only you can enter the interview. your fiance can go with you but have to wait in the waiting area. its not mandatory for the petitioner to go but it is recommended, because you can show the VO his passport that hes there to support you. and you get to add additional proofs and documents which is good. Also, who is "they?" if you're refering to the consulate then no they do not pay for the trip.

You are a little mixed up here, he is the one being interviewed and in Australia.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresProvisional Letter
Perhaps the thing to do is make sure you have all your paperwork in place and ready to go. We got stuck in AP at NVC on our K1, for almost 8 weeks. While we hung around and waited to see what was going on, I kept assembling my paperwork for packet 3, and when they cut us loose we were all ready for interview.

I was concerned at the time that my police check from Canada would expire before we were sent on to AKL. That was meant to take 6 months to get back from Ottawa, but they sent it to me in 3, and it is only good for 6 months. Combined with getting stuck at NVC, it meant that the expiry date was going to be sooner that later, and the timing would be tight. That would mean another 6 month delay to replace it, they I was told that if I stayed out of Canada they would honor it.

I emailed back and forth with the consulate in AKL, we were all in the dark back then about AP for K1, because they had only just begun to do that. The consulate there was kind enough to send me packet 3 based on my having the AKL number. I had the medical done, and packet 3 back to them before we got out of AP. Once our case was sent on to the consulate, they set an interview appointment for me, based on them having the electronic file. Took about 2 weeks from leaving NVC to interview date.

If I had waited around, and not been a bit proactive, there would have been further delays I am sure.

My situation might not apply to everyone I know, but it does illustrate well the getting your ducks lined up theory. Line 'em up, and get 'em quacking

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresExpedite due to work reasons

Why not? Happens all the time.

Because it's Visa fraud? Because something happens all the time doesn't make it right? Advising someone to intentionally commit an act of fraud on Visa Journey violates the TOS?

Good idea, thanks

I think tourist visas are very hard to get from the Philippines, right?

And coming on a tourist Visa with intent to marry and not return is not something I would advise that you do. It's Visa Fraud.

Mine does not have two expiration dates, only the one. It says Issue date and Expiry date on the same line, 6 months apart.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAdditional processing at NVC...
There are two threads in the NVC forum, about K1 petitions held for AP at NVC.

Look for Stuck @ NVC for AP. part 1 is pinned and closed, and part 2 is open for posts.

We were held at NVC for nearly 8 weeks back in 2008/2009. Times have come down since then.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThis is really annoying....

I'm just really annoyed at this process. It would appear that they do everything in their power to withhold as much information as they possibly can. Can you get any updated information by going to an actual USCIS office? We all paid a lot of money and have sacrificed a lot from our lives, we should expect a more transparent process.

I agree with you. The process is slow for most, and completely tedious for us all. There is no information you can get by going to an office, your petition is waiting to be adjudicated. You filed back in October, and your timeline offers an estimate of the end of March, if all goes well, 5 months roughly being the average. All there really is to be done is to wait.
cdnehFemaleNew Zealand2012-02-16 17:41:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThis is really annoying....

We received our NOA1 on October 26 and I see plenty of couples who filed after we did that have received their NOA2 already... The only thing is, they sent their paper work to the Vermont Center... Is it the case that they give decisions faster? This is really frustrating.

No, they are not faster. One center or the other will appear faster from time to time. When our K1 went through there, VSC was very slow, and CSC was faster. Vermont is quite far behind at the moment in processing other types of petitions.

Each case is adjudicated on it's own merit. Some just take longer than others, due to the petitioners history, whether or not they are complete, if the petition is simple or complicated...the list goes on.

Be aware as well, that the number of petitions you see on VJ, are just a fraction of those submitted.

If your friend wants to get married, then your friend needs to come here and research her own information. This process is complex and being the middle man is not going to be very helpful to her. Send her the links to the guides here and ask her to read and study!!!
