My feeling is that the intake center doesn't send the letters out in the first place. My reasoning is thus: Most people receive their bio letters with no problem (I have only seen one or two in a few years that miss them). But in this month alone we have 4 or 5 people out of our small pool that didn't get NOA1 letter. Since one item goes missing more than the other, I think the mailroom neglects to send them out.

Who knows....I got all my NOA1s during the I 130 process etc....everything was done very smoothly. The I 751 has this little snag. I have biometrics next Thursday afternoon so that's really when the countdown is on and I don't believe it'll be done in 6 months. That means I need to send off my passport and I 551 stamp to Canada, in around October to ensure I have it back with a brand new passport by December at which time my I 551 stamp expires. They only gave me a six month extention because my passport expired in December. Mind you my green card expires in August. The NOA would have been nice because USICS records shows I've been extended to May 2013. But the stamp follows the validity of the passport instead of following the NOA extension already on file. I'm going to keep a copy of the passport and the stamp and really don't love the idea of sending off the passport but not much I can do given how we can put into these situations by USCIS in the event the NOA isn't received. Once I get a renewed passport I can make yet another infopass appointment and have another stamp. If miracles happen, I'll do the bio June 28th and I'll get the greencard by October saving me from sending in my passport renewal. But that won't happen.

I do enjoy a good rant it seems :bonk:

Okay, so I guess it's mostly official that we aren't getting a NOA1... which is.... ugh. The check was chased on the 13 of June. I see Epifreak got the NOA1 31 days after the package was sent, so I suppose there is hope for tomorrow... but if the check was cashed on the 13 we should have the letter by now. Anyone know of anyone else who waited a long time and still got it? I know about the stamp and I guess we'll have to do that, but I would prefer the letter.

Same issue here but filed in California. We got the biometrics letter and no NOA1. We filed and it was received May 16th. That said, when I go on line and check my status (I created an on line account) I see that June 1st there was a decision. Because the biometrics letter was dated June 7th and I received it June 9th; the June 1st must have been the NOA but who knows what date they would have put on the form.....so where is it? Who knows? It was either sent and US post misdelivered it to someone and they have it or don't; or it was never sent. I have no way to confirm. I waited for about one month then went and got a stamp. They only stamped me for six months and not one year, likely because my passport expires in Dec this year. I would have to send off my passport with stamp and obtain a new passport, then make another infopass appointment and get another stamp. Heck of a lot easier with the NOA1 wouldn't you say.....I would suggest making an infopass appointment and if by some miracle your NOA shows up...great ! My experience in the USA for the last two years is that the post office kicks with services....they deliver pretty darn quickly so if nothing within a few days, something went wrong.

I really don't know about the stamp for six months, but I guess you can try searching on this site if there's a similar situation, and what the procedures are.

I'm an Ecuadorian. If the case is that my passport was lost or stolen, I can go to my Consulate and they would issue a new one.

Maybe you can make color copies of your current passport with the stamp, and keep them, so when you receive the new passport, if something arises, you can show them as proof....I don't know.

Also, I'm thinking that by the time you receive your new passport, six months from now, your case will be approved, and you'll have your green card on your hands.

Hey there, thanks - ya I made a color copy of the stamp and it looks good. just have to wait it out. biometrics is next week so that'll start the process...too bad i wasn't able to get an early walk in when i went for the infopass. still baffled as to why they can't just issue a new NOA or letter; none of this stuff is necessary if you can simply get a letter of extension...USCIS should have a better plan to cover things like NOAs not being issued or received so that new immigrants aren't having to run around trying to patchwork this together.....once the card is received, no more of this for 10 years woot woot....or maybe next year for petition for citizenship...

Update: last night got an infopass appointment for this am....went to the infopass and got the I 551 stamp but because my passport expires in December, they gave me a six month validity. It's probably going to be very close re the timelines for card production. They were unable to give me a walk in for biometrics so I have to return for my scheduled bio appointment June 28th; at least I got an extension. If the case is not completed by Decemember, I need to get a new passport so they can stamp another extension. It takes about a month or longer to get the passport renewal so that means sending it in by October to ensure I get it back at the end of November and to meet the Dec 17th I 551. So really unless this case is done, I'll have to let go of the only proof, other than to photocopy the stamp, and hope it's processed.

Naturally, none of this would even be an issue if they can give you a stamp NOT in the passport or issue an NOA or supplemental letter. I'm glad to have the extension but it's going to be a lot of fiddling in a bunch of months and jumping through needless hoops before all of this is settled.

Sorry for the long rant but it seems there is so much unnecessary much to do... :bonk:

Just a question out of curiosity: why do you have to surrender your old passport? I understand every country works differently but when I renew mine I get to keep the old one.

For Canada, if you want the faster and easier renewal process, you apply while your passport is valid and not expired. You have to send in the passport and they send it back with two holes punched into it plus your new passport, valid for five years. I'm not certain that is the case after your apply if your passport has expired.

I made an infopass appointment for tomorrow am...might as well get the stamp and hopefully biometrics done a week early ....

It'll all work out....just annoying little inconveniences...thanks for your support !

Get the stamp now and get it again when your passport expires.

Ya, came to that conclusion today; best to get the stamp and then if the case isn't completed in six months, i'll seek another stamp as needed.

i'll set up an info pass appoint asap.

Just an idea: Can't you go to your Consulate and claim you lost your passport and just get a new one?

Hi, well the have the renewal passport done, and it's a quicker process, it can't be reported lost or stolen or damaged. i intend to call NVC for what's it worth, tomorrow. I'm going to push for the NOA to be submitted but I don't expect to get anywhere.

Do you know what USCIC does with passport set to expire in six months and stamping the I 551? would they only stamp for a six month extension or would they stamp for a year extension.

If they do one year regardless of when the passport expires, I would simply not travel out of country until the green card is issued, then apply to renew my passport and do it that way.

And I just checked the mailbox as we were out of town....yup no NOA.

Just an idea: Can't you go to your Consulate and claim you lost your passport and just get a new one?

I'm not aware of being able to get a passport thru the consulate. you have to apply for it in Canada.

Yeah South 16th Street is the address.
You don't need to cancel the original biometrics schedule if you have yours done earlier. Just don't worry about showing up on the original date since they already have your bio records taken.

Yours wont expire until in two months, you still have all the time to wait for the NOA. Mine expires this month so I needed to asked for extension and tried asking for early biometrics as well in which they granted.

Here's to hoping to no RFE and no Interview!:)
Goodluck to you!

Just a thought and wondering what yourself and others would think.

I can set up an info pass and do a biometrics appointment prior to the June 28th bio appointment set up. My passport expires Dec 2012. Sooo either get the I 551 stamp on the current passport and hope the green card gets here by Dec...if not I would have to surrender my passport with the I 551 stamp......Or, send off a renewal passport request within a few days and hope it's processed before August THEN get the I 551 stamp and at least that passport is valid for 5 years.

None of this horsedung is even needed with an NOA letter...but that's the problem

Hey! :)
I just chose to do it that way because I'm gonna be in Ecuador and I wasn't going to be able to make it to my appointment, and I just asked if I could do it, and they let me do it.
Whenever you go, get your passport stamped FIRST and as soon as the give it back, ask if they would take your biometrics early (they probably will) .
Good luck and TAKE IT EASY..... ;)

Oh! And obviously, that cancels the original appointment...unless you wanna go a second round...lol! :D

Ohhhh a second round would be great !!!

Just updating y'all about my visit to USCIS Phoenix today. I had my passport stamped with 6 months validity. The stamp "serves as temporary 1-551 evidencing permanent residency for one year" ... I know it says one year but the Officer indicated "6 months validity" on top but I don't care (hopefully) before the 6th month period I should have already my 10 year GC....The extension also covered my Work Authorization as stated on the stamp.

BIOMETRICS DONE EARLIER THAN THE SCHEDULE. The Supervisor for ASC Biometrics was nice enough to accommodate me even though my Biometrics schedule is on June 27.

So this should mean just waiting on the actual green card production, and assuming I won't have any RFE or Interview. I don't have to go back to USCIS again. It's a long drive!:)

Hey Binow, is this the S 16th address for the infopass? That's the address I have for biometrics. My green card expires mid August, so I hope if they stamp mine soon it's the year not simply six months or I might as well wait for the stamp and get it early August etc. Again, instead of all this horsecrap they SHOULD ISSUE A FRIGGN NOA for those of us not in receipt of one....anyone know what that rationale is for not issuing one if not received?

Congratz and welcome! :P

KataandFreddy.....with the infopass and stamp, did the stamp serve as the extension or did they give you a letter ie NOA1 or ?

I called the USCIS and they suggested to do an INFOPASS. Because my GC expires this 25th, I have scheduled an INFOPASS tomorrow and will ask for one-year extension which has never arrived, yet! Also tomorrow I'm going to ask if I can have early biometrics because my schedule is on June 27th. I remember being able to have biometrics done earlier than scheduled when I was applying for AOS but that was 2 years ago things may have changed but hopefully they will allow that taken tomorrow as well, so like you mentioned above, saves time from having to take time off work!

Let me know how you make out on this. I'm curios about whether you get the I 551 stamp and if it's only for travel or if the 551 also gives you the work extension....or whether you get something else confirming extension while they process. Would be best to get the biometric sooner anyway so they can move on that quicker

You won't be "illegal" if you haven't received your NOA/extension letter as long as they've actually processed it, but i'll be harder to prove you're in the US legally if you need to. It's probably worth making an infopass appointment to get your passport stamped with the extension.

The extension grants you permanent stay, travel and work authorization. Travel is one part of it but the stamp or NOA would also cover you and your employer if they ask for the green card again if they keep track of when it expires etc. Like the poster said, it's not like you find yourself illegal all of a sudden, but you do need the proper documents to have a nice smooth life lol....soooooo the NOA1 covers that and so does the stamp. Just odd that a few of us haven't received the NOA1 but got the biometrics appointment. California got our package May 16th. The biometrics letter was date noticed June 7th and I received it the 9th....they've got me waiting for Santa Clause on an NOA that apparently has a date of Jun 1st or something but yet it's taking 17 days to get here. Hoping it's in the mail today. :bonk:

Okay!!!! :D so! I just got back from my appointment. As some of you remember, I called the Customer Service Center because we have not received our Extension Letter, and we did received the Biometrics Appointment Letter. The agent that took my call suggested an info pass online and that is what I did and I AM VERY HAPPY I did so.
I arrived 15 minutes early and got my passport stamped with the one year extension.
Not only that, but I asked if they would take my biometrics also, and THEY DID!
I really hope the original Extension Letter does arrive in the mail, just to be on the safe side, but for now? I'm coooool! Hahahaha! Hope this info is useful guys!
<3 <3 <3 :) yuuuupeeee!!!!

Good stuff and way to go !! Yes the info pass is likely the best option. I'm giving it until Friday as per the last call with NVC and I suspect the NOA1 won't be in the mail. If it arrives, great; but I'll likely do an info pass and get the stamp. My biometrics appointment is June 28th. The other thing is that my Canadian passport expires Dec 2012....if I get it stamped, I have to surrender that passport to Canada to get another one....and I would not want to surrender a passport that has a stamp. It makes me want to get a new passport now and then have them stamp it. Such a pain in the #### simply because the ridiculous NOA was either not sent or delivered. completely inconvenient at every level including taking time off work to get that info pass appointment etc.

Again all letters from service centers should be made to have signatures upon receipt....and if not, then NVC should be able to have a second NOA1 issued if there is any glitch ie not delivered or not sent; it's not like having two NOA1s will change anything. not like it's two SSNs or two green cards. It's a letter extending your green card for one year from a certain date to another date. Why can't one simply be reissued. They must have something on their files that it was sent....send another one, there's been a problem .....

Silly jackwagon stuff if you ask me. <_<

Hey! So are you saying that the one-year extension is granted via mail? Like we are suppose to get something on the mail about that? All along I thought you have to go to the USCIS service center where you will have your biometrics, and personally have your whatever e.g. passport (not sure) stamped with that one-year extension note. Or I thought you will have that one-year extension stamp once you have your biometrics done.

Thanks!

Hey there, no email notification was something we could do back in the I 130 petition days but I'm not aware of any email notication avaialable now, maybe there is but I don't know about it. We should be getting the NOA1 by regular mail then get the NOA for the ASC appointment, which is the notification of biometrics appointment...some of us, including you and I, have not be sent the NOA1 and instead got the biometrics. When I spoke with NVC about it, and believe me it was a looooong stupid wait, the guy said he could see on his system that I was approved for one year extension and said he saw the issue date for the NOA and suggested I wait until the end of this week, by Friday to see if it shows up and, if not, to call again. Ugh, calling again sucks bobo.

Anyway, if you don't get the NOA by the end of the week, I would call NVC and I'm going to as well. Maybe it'll show up, maybe it won't.

The biometrics letter came to me within two days of the notice date......NVC said the NOA1 appears to have been issued dated Jun 1st or something.....yet today is the 12th and where is it??? why should we have to wait if it was issued. He couldn't say it if was sent out or not but could see that the extension was granted. I will call them to determine whether I need to book an info pass or bring my passport etc to the biometrics appointment to get the stamp. I'm not sure who does the stamp (I 551).

Does anyone have experience in that area? I've read somewhere on some post about this but not sure where or when. Anyone know?

Thanks Vanessa, not sure if the post office can help. I do think these things should be delivered with a signature requirement. That way if you aren't home, you get the notice and can pick it up. It could have been misdirected or maybe it's still on the way. I've never called USCIS before :jest:

0Got our biometrics appt letter today for 7/5/12. :-) No NOA yet though. :-( Anyone know, if you don't have the NOA by the time you have biometrics, can you get the stamp in your passport when you go for biometrics or do you need another appt? Thanks!

There are several of us that received NOAs for the ASC appointment ie biometric appointment but not the first NOA1 for extension etc....I called NVC today and after 35 minutes on the phone with a person, he escalated up to another level....50 minutes on hold for frig's sakes.....very very long time...what a waste, so i get a guy whom tells me that he sees it being issued June 1st and asks me to wait until friday and call them again if not received by them. i explained that I got the biometrics letter sat Jun 9th and it was issued June 7th, why wouldn't i get the June 1st NOA...he agrees the NOA1 is the normal flow then the bio letter but it is what it is.

so now i'm left with nothing new, just bullshitttte in terms of waiting for service and now we wait to friday to see if something issued 11 days ago will arrive or not. then call them for another 1.5 hour wait. this stuff really annoys me frankly.

Anyway, that's the latest on our end re this stuff. i'll post if I get the NOA1 or after I do this nonsense all over again on friday

I'm the "someone" you're talking about /: hahaha! I'm calling the customer service number tomorrow and getting an info pass to try and get my bio done earlier. I'm also taking my passport and airline tickets with me, so I can set a stamp and show some kindda proof that the case is being processed, I'll let you know what the result was. Good luck to you ;)

Ha it's you !! Ok good to know. I was going over past postings but couldn't seem to find it. Usually you get NOA1 then wait for the biometric. It could have been lost in transit I guess or who knows if it was sent out. They are sometimes two weeks apart. Keep us updated once you hear. I'd rather not necessary have my passport stamped because it was already visa stamped when I got the I 130 and moved here, plus my Canadian passport expires in December. I have no idea how long the green card production takes. I'd rather not carry an expired green card plus my passport everywhere I go.

US law requires all permanent card holders to carry their status with them at all times....I am hearing g/c can be sent 3-6 months after approval....

Yeah, thank you zenaxe. I see that you are from AZ, too. :)

Well my plan is to call the USCIS location where I should take my biometrics and see if I can come in earlier than the scheduled date then maybe they can stamp my passport or whatever to reflect that my GC is extended. I will post on here Monday about that.
Thank you

Good question. Again someone on here posted that they received the biometrics letter before the NOA extending the g/c. Binow, you are in the boat as I...except you will be expiring sooner. You can call NVC to inquire, attend the bio and ask them or make an info pass so they can give you the I 551 stamp. I think you get that with the info pass. It's probably on the way but who knows. There really should be a naturally flow but it doesn't always work that way. :crying:

Since I received my NOA for the biometrics before the first NOA I was able to go on the USCIS site and saw where things are at. It tells when they received the notice, that they have issued a notice and to expect and letter re biometrics....more than that in there but that's the main gist of it. So we're at 'initial review' stage.....like to know where that first NOA is...although come to think of it, we've had a neighbor occasionally post a letter on our front door because they got our mail...maybe that or not...

Ok so we got our biometrics letter which is an NOA and the appointment is for June 28th...this was notice date June 7th. However, we haven't received the NOA that says they've extended the green card etc. I suspect that's also in the mail or should arrive. If not I'll have get some type of stamp etc. I'll give it more time

Not sure why a biometrics letter would arrive before the first NOA but hey it's a groovy thing so we'll take it !

I remember reading another post in past whereby the person received the bio letter before the first NOA...anyone able to comment on that? I'm going to go on the USCIS to see what it may say now that I've got the receipt number. So good news for sure

Also I'll update the google document as well.

Yukira & Jim, can I ask you to update our biometric appointment. :bonk:

For sure congrats to all with the NOA1 good news !!! Nothing yet on this end. The mystery of this friggin place. I can count at least six people that filed a week and more after we did and they've received NOAs!!! I know this is part of the charm. My g/c doesn't expire until mid August so time is not a pressing matter here but it seems that someone can file their package today and still get NOA before some of us who filed May 14th.....going to be nice to be finished with this system ...good luck to all !!

Got NOA today! It's dated 5/16, though. The postmark says 6/4 LOL NICE TRY USCIS.

Nice, congrats ! nothing for us yet but many of us are around that same filing times and it looks like it's moving....just wish it would get here so we can sit around wondering when the bio letter will come so when we get that we can sit and wonder about the outcome and approval and when that comes we can sit and wait for the green card to be produced and when that comes we can wait for the green card to arrive.

thinking citizenship so all of this waiting will end for good among many other great reasons :bonk:

Yurika & Jim, please, can we just use the Google Doc for this? I really appreciate your work, but the long list is making this forum unreadable. It doesn't make sense to keep the data current in two places - let's combine our efforts!

Note: I updated all the new info on the Google Doc

I'm not having any problem reading Y & J's list at all

I think a lot of us are feeling that pain of wanting to make trips but waiting for that extension letter with the NOA. I'm in the same boat. :(

yup yup yup, just checked the mailbox !!!!!!!!!!! nothing

lol

but I read that Dave/Oksana got their check cashed so maybe there's some movement. it seems that week of may 10th 11th etc....is crawling. we filed May 14th along with many others....so that's the crunch cut off slow honey week it seems. and ya NVC won't bother until it's 30 days late so we wait. it'll get here just the waiting blows :crying:

Yes, but with the I-130 I got the NOA1 8 days after I mailed it. We're at day 18 now and they haven't even cashed the check. We have travel plans and need to get that letter and get the biometrics done and need California to wake itself up and get to work already. They've had enough time and people have lives to live without, once again, putting your life on hold for paperwork. I'm just about sick of it.

Ya for sure, the waiting and not knowing/second guessing always adds stress. The main difference is probably at that instead of waiting for the approvals and being apart, this time we are waiting but are together lol.....but I do intent to follow up next week if I don't hear anything.

Vermont is grindingly slow for processing after biometrics. Many are getting very fast NOAs and bio appointments but in blogging for those using VSC filing in June are still waiting for the final approval.

California was moving nicely with NOAs but hit a snag and I haven't a clue how long they take after bio appointments...argh....I'm hoping those of us in the May 11-16th etc will hear something next week. Maybe there's still on their lunch break haha :bonk:

Haha...Nice to meet you too, Engineer21.
Thank you, everyone for your suggestion.
I guess I'll just wait for now. Is there anyway to contact them to find out if they actually have my package?

No you can't actually contact the service center. You would need to contact NVC. I called NVC recently just to try to address the change of address matter. I had done my AR 11 two years ago and received the reminder letter for the I 751 at my former address...turns out many did and it worked out fine. But I had called NVC to inquire about that and I must have gotten the second dimmest bulb on the tree or something because she struggled with my inquiry regarding the change of address issue and any update on the NOA1....she asked me three times whether I received the biometrics appointment letter......uuuuuuhhhhh no, I haven't received the NOA1 yet and I want to ensure it comes to the proper address in the FIRST place, hence my call at that time. See how it works?? In the end she said that unless the NOA is over 30 days in delay, then they really won't or can't do anything.

Remember when speaking with NVC, it is often the contracted out services unless you call during the week day I believe. Often you end up with a script adhering member of their staff and sometimes aren't as helpful as one would hope. We've been down the NVC road given our collective journeys.

It'll be nice to not have to deal with the 'what's happening?' of ICIS once the 10 year card is issued or maybe even citizenship and being done completely. Soooo we wait and wonder in the meantime :bonk:

Hi, everyone. :)
I'm a bit worried about my I-751 package. It shows on usps that package was received on 05/16/2012 by California Service Center, but as of today, I haven't received any NOA nor check has been cashed. Should I give them more time?

I'd give them more time. It does seem that CSC is slowing to a crawl and the notoriously slow VSC is going strong. I won't rattle their cages until another week goes by without word.

I think I understand what you are saying. But I didn't even have my NOA1 yet. Do you know why some of us (like you) get their NOA within few days of application submittal while some (like me) haven't recieved anything after 3 weeks? Does it have to do with when in your 3 month window application is put in? I sent mine right at the begining of that window.

I doubt it has anything to do with the window unless they received it outside of the 90 day rule. I sent the package May 14 and the 90 day began May 15th but it arrived May 16th so it's within that 90 days. Most of us want to give them as much time as possible to get this done prior to the card's expiration. We just need to be patient; do you remember all the waiting and freaking out during the I 130 etc? So hopefully California gets moving; Vermont is cruising along nicely it seems.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 May 2012 Filers

That does bring up a question. What if the GC expires before the NOA1 is processed even though the papers were sent in plenty of time? I will be pissed as hell if the petition is denied because of CSC's delay.

I called NVC not about an expiration or possibility of the expiration but about another matter. Basically NVC said they wouldn't look into the matter unless 30 days from filing the petition has passed without any word. Those with GCs expiring in the next two weeks may wish to call NVC but it sounds like people waited and filed 30 days before the expiration of the green card. Chances are you'll hear soon about the petition and likely before the expiration of the card. But if it's getting close I'd call NVC and make sure you have a paper trail of filing/mailing etc. NOAs and the extensions should not take two months; it seems several weeks have been noted on here.

I'm not sure what is going on at CSC. They got our package on 5/16 but they still have not cashed the check.

You're next on the CSC list. I sent a cashier's check so it cleared once I got the check lol but no way to know. I actually was fairly excited thinking that CSC was moving quickly on these but we seem to have hit a snag and slight delay. It'll happen, just have to wait it out. Keep us posted...
