I went on my own, test is a joke, round the block and back in 10 mins, that was it. No reversing round a corner, no emergency stop, no 3 point turn no hill start. Bloke said they make it short in order to get the required number though, explains a lot about american drivers, standards are very low.

I got my SSN just after I got to the US, After marriage as it happens but before filing for AoS, there was only 10 days between those events and that was because of govt shutdown. EAD has nothing to do with it.

 

Health insurance is expensive whatever way you cut it, all Obamacare does is make health insurance cover you regardless of previous health issues, does not make it cheaper,  When you start looking in to it you will wish you were back in Europe. You can pay $500/ month and still have $6000 of out of pocket costs easily so be prepared to get shafted. Remember the health service in the US is profit driven.

The next open enrollment period is Nov to March i think, other than that you have to have a "life event" such as marriage, or change in immigration status like becoming an LPR. Dont let them tell you otherwise, I have had thia arguement ofn the phone with providers and they have had to come back to me and say "you were right".

You can still get health insurance and whether its via Obamacare or not it's very expensive, for the 2 of us it's around $1000/ month. Plus co pays plus co insurances plus prescription charges etc etc

When you say add it to the package he will receive what do you mean, from who??. Once it's approved it will go to NVC and then on to London. He will receive the approval notice., that about all, no package as such.

On the evidence topic, London  require hardly anything so no need to bother with skype logs and all that stuff.

Nothing happened, but S-C put it up as an quick conversion. I am old enough to be able to do both, I was brought up with F so had to learn C when we decided to catch up with the rest of the world. Wish the US would do the same with dates, measurements, volumes etc.

The dimes are super confusing! I have gone from Australian money to British and then US. And because all of them are of varying sized I still get confused.

 

PS. F to C conversion - divide by 2 and minus 30. It won't be exact, but it will be close enough to give you an idea.

I think you'll find it's subtract 30 then divide by 2.

Whats the deal with the crosswalk thing, they're pretty much the same as in the UK? Not sure why people would not know how to use them. I just cross wherever and whenever I want, although my wife says I should not cross on the diagonal. I merely remind her that where I come from we are allowed to cross the road on our own.

 

I rarely get asked about my accent here, no-one notices or cares it seems.

I too travel back and forth a lot and would say that the £ is still pretty good Vs the $. 1.62 right now, when I came over a year ago it was about 1.52 but then a month ago it was 1.70.

Is it going to be a problem if i don't have my OLD passport for my interview next week?

My new passport was issued in Feb this year; my old passport is in California.
I had taken it with me on my last visit in March in case I was required to show it at immigration, which I wasn't. I do havescanned photocopies of the pages with immigration stamps on from all my previous visits however.

I got mine a couple of weeks after arrival, I took Passport, I 94, SS-5 form filled out, I also took a copy of the document on here (in the SSN section) which shows a K1 is entitled to an SSN just in case of any doubts. No problem, had card 4 days later.

The DMV here in South Carolina told me I can only use my UK license to drive if it is an international license. As I didn't get one, I now have to wait till I have my EAD to get a permit and can't drive for ages. Also, if you have any x-rays from a dentist or doctor etc, might be worth seeing if you can get hold of them to bring with you. I'm trying to get hold of my old dental x-rays 'cause my dentist here said it will help them a lot and cost me less money to get my first examination done with them if I have 'em.

I drove about on my UK licence here in Maryland on the grounds that I had hired a car here previously on it. Even if you do the driving test whilst still on your I94 it would only be valid for the duration of that. I waited until I got my EAD and so it's valid a year, then when I get GC I  just do a renewal.

All I had to do here to get a licence was 3 hour ($70) drug and alcohol course, theory test (doddle) and road test ( absolute doddle, took 10 mins). I'd have failed in the UK as I broke the speed limit, 38 in a 35 but did not seem to matter here.

I would wait until your case is in transit then schedule medical. What they want you to do is wait until the embassy notifies you then do what they tell you, which will be medical, get docs together etc. read the guides, read the embassy web site.

 

I took the I134 and 2 tax transcripts and that was it as regards affadavit of support.

 

Other docs for the interview are detailed in the guides and embassy web site

 

It moves at their pace so all you can do is be ready when they tell you. Not much else you can do to speed it up.

If I were you I'd just get it done at knightsbridge if that's what they say. I think I paid about £35 for that and £35 for an MMR being as I'd never had MMR before.

Yes they do weigh you, take your height and therefore your BMI.

Just a regular medical, nothing most people have not had before.

I agree all that Canadian stuff is complete Tosh, you need, for the medical, passport, police cert, questionnaire filled out, payment by card or cash. Photo either UK or US size, doesn't matter. Vaccination record if you have it, if not some more money to get the jabs you need, not vital but it gets it out of the way.
