United KingdomRecent interviewees - do you have your passport yet??

Man, I'm so so grateful. Got in touch with the Embassy today, as after Tuesdays approval my case status still stated ready, and just explained to the woman on the phone that the officer who gave me my approval said he would go out of his way to make sure my visa is issued in time for my wedding next saturday, with my departing flight on Wednesday (I know, very hopeful?!).

I was asked to call back after 30 mins while the woman located my case and found out its status, when i called she said she was going to make sure it got processed today and to call back in an hour and half again and ask for her yet again and she would update me.

Called back, and in between that call my case became in administrative processing, and on the phone she checked with a member of staff next to her that it had just been issued, but as the courier was not guaranteed to deliver in time for Tuesday, I could go back to the US Embassy and collect my passport on Tuesday!

A little inconvenient having to go back to London, but damn, I do not mind for a second, I'll happily take that!!

Looks like I'll be getting married next week after all! Aaaaaaaand relax!

What number did you use to speak with them? I could really do with speaking with someone there but cannot get anyone with any sense whatsoever.

I'm not "worried", just better to prepare for the worst scenario and get a better scenario.   Besides, under the best of circumstances, every persons poe is different, that's why the reviews vary from person to person at any given poe.  We've had bad entry stories just her coming on the vwp and we've had good ones.  I think being prepared for a slow poe is not exactly the wrong way to go about it.  Planning on a quick easy entry is the best way to set yourself up for disappointment.  I'm glad it went well for you, but that doesn't mean it will for everyone.

I know what you mean, but my point is the shutdown should not have any effect. You never know who you will get when you come in, some are good, some miserable.

My thinking exactly, some are going to be crabby and others may work slower, and just an overall bad vibe is what concerns me the most.  You already hear about the occasional traveler that runs into a customs official or whomever who seems to be taking out their bad day on others, this can't make the situation any better.  Going to keep my fingers crossed that things go smoothly for all those with a POE date during this time, and hopefully it'll be over sooner rather than later

I entered the US on the first day of the shutdown, it was no different to any of the other times i have entered.

Stop finding things to worry about.

Collected my passport from the courier today, so exactly 7 days for me. I'm flying out on Wednesday, but due to the death of a friend we have postponed our wedding for the time being. I hope everyone's interviews go smoothly and good luck xxxxx

Glad you got yours, we were there same day, mine must have sneaked through before yours for some reason.

I fly out tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about the bereavement.

May I ask a question (rather than starting a whole new thread :/!). My interview is on Wed Oct 23rd but exactly a week later I have two days off (Wed 30th and Thur 31st) for a friend's wedding back in my hometown.

My question is: do the couriers tell you when they are delivering, or can you request from a window of dates available? I know most of us just want this in hand ASAP, but I need to think logistics here! It's really frustrating that I am going to be definitely busy and out of town from my home and work addresses for those two days, gaaahhhh. Wondering if I can set mum up as someone who can take possession of it for me...

Anyone have an opinion/advice? Is the turnaround on average a week...?

I got an e mail on the thursday with a tracking number, went to the website and it said delivery the next day. In the embassy there is a courier desk in the US citizens area, might be worth going there on your way out and see if they are more flexible than the online booking.

You can opt for any address and person to be the recipient when you book home delivery online, I had mine sent to my parents care of my dad. no problems with it

Hi does anyone know when you get your passport delivered back does it have to be sent to your home address or can you have it sent to your work address, I am just trying to be ahead of the game and juggling holidays with work for medical, interview and now if I will need time off to wait for my passport to be returned.

thank you

anne

I had mine sent to parents address c /of my Dad. No problems, bloke did not even ask for ID of his, or mine, nothing, just came to their address and got him to sign.

When you go through the whole MRV fee payment thing, after you pay you will be offered home delivery, get it sent where you want it to go.

My case creation date is the 24th now, so I might be a day behind you. Did you tell them when you were planning on flying out?

Just looked at mine again, interview yesterday, AP earlier today, now says Issued!!!

They asked me and I said as soon as I get my passport back, I just need 24 hrs to sort out a couple of loose ends.

HUGE envelope and passport got back today. Take my advice and opt for the before 10AM DX service rather than just waiting out, the suspense was killing me today. I also told them when I was travelling on the day of the interview which might have helped it get sent back to me quicker. But yeah, all done! Now to deal with POE stuff on Saturday and it's all over~ (until that great debate of naturalisation vs. greencard renewal kicks in, lol).

where did you get the option to ask for a before 10:00 service? I do not recall seeing that, just the depot delivery or home delivery for the extra $30.

Just realized my post above was meant to be check DS-260 status. What does this even mean? I've never heard of this before

DS 260 is a new form supposed to replace DS2001 and DS 230 after 1 Sept. I tried to have a look and see if I need to do it as my interview is 23rd Sept although all my DS forms were sent on 7 Aug. It will not let me do anything as the first thing it asks for is an NVC receipt number which we (K1) dont have.

No idea why it shows up on your status thing though, it's new and you are the first person I have seen come across it.

nobbieMaleUnited Kingdom2013-09-10 04:12:00
United KingdomTime to get greencard after POE?

Collie, I dont know the answer in your case but I think one or two on here have not looked at your situation and are answering as if it were their own case and visa type.

United KingdomLeaving the US between marriage and AOS submission?

You have 6 months after medical date to use the visa, could you do the interview then just wait to go to the US?

United KingdomLondon overnight stay recs? How long til visa in hand?

Some Consulates/Embassies, offer same day issuance of visas. The US consulates in Germany as example offer this service. You might have to wait a couple hours, but you can pick up your passport with the printed visa in it on the same day you had your interview. Email them to find out.

Dont think London does this

United KingdomOne way ticket

I have used AP 4 times, all at Heathrow T5, twice the check in person knew about AP and the other 2 they did not. The last time I had to tell her which number to enter in to their system (Alien number). On the one hand you would think that BA at T5 would know, especially given the number of flights they have from there to the US every day.  On the other hand I guess AP is just not that common.

Does not look a bad price to me, I paid about that for LHR to BWI return and then cancelled the return half later on. I go back and forth a bit and it's usually around £550 return.

In London it is medical first then interview date. I take it you will be doing the medical and interview in London,  Person in post 2 seems to think you are doing it in Romania.

United Kingdomtime between interview and visa returned in passport

I should have clarified I was referring to the London Embassy, anyone mind sharing their recent experience?

Thanks!

Mine took 4 days but that was last year, BTW I disagree with one of the previous posts, you posted in the UK forum so it was safe to assume you were referring to the London embassy, no need to apologise in my opinion.

United KingdomCourier service.

I was TOLD by the consuler officer at the interview desk to send the I-864.

I actually got a phonecall today telling me that my Application was approved and getting sent out. (having recieved said I-864)

Thanks to everyone for their help.

Yes my mistake, I was editing when you beat me to it.

Glad you got it sorted

United KingdomCourier service.

So I had my interview on friday the 18th http://www.visajourn...php?entry=14864  :TL:DR - Was ACCEPTED pending I-864

I had the wrong Affidavit of support, which was all our own fault and we accept that, but at the first interview window the officer said that all I needed to do was to get the correct paper work from my wife and using the courier service, get it back to London for them to complete the application (no need for ME to go back down)

After my interivew, I got an email saying I needed to also send down part 2 of DS-230.

Now neither the first interview window officer OR the email mentions the passport.

So my questions are :

Do I send: I-864+Tax Forms+ Letter from wifes emplyment along with Part 2 of the DS230 and wait for a response?

Or,

Do I send: I-864+TaxForm+Letter+PT2 DS-230+Passport? (I would assume this one so that they can get it all done at once) Just looking for clarification.

Also,

How do I go about arranging for the courier to pick these up from me? It wasnt explained to me

Thanks for any replies in advance.

Oops too late at night to be doing this, nearly made a boo boo

You'll be fine, they will check your name against a list and your passport, have the letter with you though. It's only for the gate at the embassy.

United KingdomOriginal Documents -London US Embassy

I think you're missing some facts. There are plenty of non-British citizens who live in the UK and want to travel to the U.S. either for tourism or to move there.  My wife happens to be Polish born.  She and I, came to live in the UK, for two reasons. The main one was because I was able to file my petition for her through the quickest route possible - DCF.  This could not be possible in her native Poland.  It doesn't matter what country you're in, there are plenty of people out there who are trying to get visas for all the wrong reasons.   The Embassy staff in London just happens to be very professional and there's no reason to be rude or cold in order to follow their procedures.

My point is, in general terms the UK is not a high fraud country. Also people at the London embassy are unlikely to be trying to get to the US for the wrong reasons, of course there will be exceptions, if you are in the UK why would you want to move to the US? To be with the one you love is the only reason I can see. I certainly would not be in the US for any other reason.

Anyway this is off the subject of the OP topic.

nobbieMaleUnited Kingdom2014-08-12 01:56:00
United KingdomOriginal Documents -London US Embassy

There is a reason it's more relaxed, that being people who go there for things like a K1 (especially if they are British anyway) are far more likely to be going there for the right reasons than in many other countries. It's not a high fraud country.

OP, glad it worked out alright for you.

Let us know how you get on. I've got my interview on Thursday - I have an original signature on the I134 but the rest of the docs are photocopies (including my fiance's divorce decree).

You'll be fine, my fiancee divorce decree was a copy as are most I suspect.

I think you will be ok with the divorce cert as the US will do it's own checks anyway, maybe at the NVC stage or before.

Good luck today, let us know how you got on

United KingdomUK Auto Insurance - Does My US History Count For Squat?

If you have been out of the UK insurance loop for a while I will say this, shop around, there are loads of comparison web sites these days and the difference can be startling. Not trying to teach you to suck eggs but really is worth having a good look about. Some such as Aviva and Direct Line don't do comparison sites so worth talking to them direct.

Sounds like you are all set then. Are your parents going to sponsor him for AoS? That puts them under a legal obligation I think whereas the k1 part doesn't really. if they are make sure they understand the implications.

United KingdomTransit visa question for London

Looks like a transit visa will be needed. They can grant a waiver if she is leaving the UK within 24 hrs BUT that is decided by border control and you probably dont want to leave it until then in case they say no.

Think about the return trip too if she is coming back the same way.

Thats a good link posted above, definately have a look at it.

Where would you want it delivered to and how would you get there without your passport?

I do not have any experience of this but as far as I know when you book the courier online you have to say where you want it sent, have you done this already.

You're cutting it a bit fine to be messing about at this stage.

United Kingdommoving on k1 and drivers license..

In MD, as a foreigner you have to take (before anything else) a 3 hours drug and alcohol course which is a right laugh considering how people in the US treat drinking and driving.

I went on my own, test is a joke, round the block and back in 10 mins, that was it. No reversing round a corner, no emergency stop, no 3 point turn no hill start. Bloke said they make it short in order to get the required number though, explains a lot about american drivers, standards are very low.
