United KingdomWhile you are waiting, do this

While you are waiting for your interview it's worth while getting to know the AOS process for once you arrive in the US. I know people will still be worrying about the interview and having the right bits of paper and so on, but as it's possible to be waiting a month then I think it's well worth thinking ahead.

Stuff like,

1: Getting your electronic I-94

2: Getting an SSN

3: Getting a driving licence in your state

4: marriage licence

5: marriage certs

6: filing for AOS, EAD and AP, which forms you need, photo requirements all all the other docs you need to send of with your AOS package

7: How much it's going to cost, where to send it to.

Have a read of the AOS guides and mooch about on the AOS forum, you will be surprised how many people arrive and then start with "what do i do now" questions. Don't be one of them, it's not difficult if you do some preparation.

This is all stuff you will need to do, so have a look now. Might as well while your waiting, give you something other than the interview (which is a doddle) to think about.

United KingdomK1 Visa Self Sponsorship

I seem to remember someone in the UK forum doing this towards the end of last year, they just took evidence of bank statements and proof of assets etc. I dont think they did an I134 but best have a search in the UK forum. I had an I134 with enough from my fiancee but also took a bank statement showing about $150K of cash, they grabbed it quick enough but don't think it was needed.

Why would you be worried? I don't think there's any cause for it unless you have tb or something.

I think the x ray is for TB, blood is for syphillis, so they say anyway

United KingdomHelp! Lost with Medical & Interview at London US Embassy

I think if you need a co sponsor then you will need 2 forms, your fiancee must be one of them plus the co sponsor. not something i have done but i would think its covered in the guides on here. Best thing to do is read the guides thoroughly.

Do yourself a favour and don't go to the interview, you will be bored to death, go and have a beer and wait outside.

There are farmers markets but oddly they seem to be more expensive than supermarkets. The thing about the healthcare system is that even though you may be paying $500 a month, you still got co pay, still got deductibles and still got co insurance to pay, makes me wonder what the premium is for.

United KingdomFiveYears Down

Hi Kiwi, yes i think I remember us being on the forum last year around the same time. Things I find difficult? Well the 2 main things i thought would bother me do, that is the crazy gun laws and violence and the lunatic medical system. Plus lack of public transport (no trains here is Annapolis) lack of proper food shops in that it's all supermarkets and the ludicrous prices they charge, particularly for fresh veg and the like. In fact the general expense of things here, I am not short of a few bob but I have no idea how poorer people eat in this country, junk I guess.

I take my hat off to you. I have been here only 6 months and find it difficult. If anything happened to my wife the first thing I would do is leg it back to the UK.

You get told at the interview whether they have approved your visa or not. Might take a week or so to get your passport back

United KingdomHow to know how much money to bring to Knightsbridge?

you say he got his shots from his GP, so normally there would only be the medical fee to pay, there is no saliva test unless it's changed from last year, the x ray is included, blood test is included.

I am lucky as I travel to the UK for business, am there now and have had bacon, sausages, chip shop chips and an Indian (all in moderation). All the bad things I know but I just have to while I am here. Do I miss any American food, nope not one bit.

United KingdomWhat Septic Grub Have You Found That You Really Like?

Them's "Loaded Fries" you're talking about. To be found in any sports bar worth its salt. And absolutely MIND-BLOWING! But, tbf, this particular delicacy is better served with sour cream, imho.

That is just about everything I can't stand about food here, that lot and Pizza, I could quite happily never eat pizza again. I struggle to find much to eat on most menus here, I try and avoid fried stuff and food with crappy cheese melted on it. So by and large there is not much I eat off most menus. One good thing though if you do have a burger at least you can get it med rare and not have to have it well done.

Just tell them about your J1 visa if they ask.

London is not bothered about relationship stuff, most people take something like flight details and what have you but I have never heard of it been asked for.

If she is over, don't subject her to the tedium of the interview, that's just cruel, tell her to go shopping in Oxford St or something.

this should be in the AOS forum, however mine is in acceptance and has been since Nov, apparently this is not unusual. GC might be a year if you do not have an interview, somewhat shorter if you do.

United KingdomHow long is the medical visit? IR1/CR1

I did K1 medical which I think is the same, I was there 1 hour 20, most of which was waiting. I had 2 jabs but that takes a few minutes only. Probably varies a bit depending how busy it is. seems to be 45 mins to 1 1/2 hrs depending. I had no complications other than 2 jabs.

United KingdomWhen can we expect case status change?

It'll likely change a couple of times over the next few days, don't be alarmed if it goes to AP, it does that, mine did but only for 1/2 a day.

It's a while since mine but don't you need a letter from each of you stating you will get married within 90 days of arrival? Could be I have got it mixed up, what with going through petition, interview and AoS.

United KingdomReceived Interview Letter... No Interview Date?!

This is not true. The UK permits advance medicals. You can get a medical done prior to the interview date being set.

Why are you agreeing with me and saying it's not true. I said you must have a medical as they will not schedule an interview without the medical results being received.

United KingdomReceived Interview Letter... No Interview Date?!

So what is this letter in my hand?

No idea, seems to be a mistake, my point is London do not schedule an interview until they have the medical results. As you have not had a medical they will not schedule and interview, it would seem they have not as there is no date on it.

Try using the contact form to ask about it. I believe DOS have stopped responding to people asking about interview dates.

Or call the embassy on Tuesday.

nobbieMaleUnited Kingdom2014-05-04 05:11:00
United KingdomReceived Interview Letter... No Interview Date?!

If you have not had your medical you will not have an interview date set. They only schedule an interview after the medical results are in and they have your paperwork and readiness form.

United KingdomIs USC's Birth Certificate required at interview?

No they do not, those at the top of this thread are wrong.

Read the list of docs required for K1 on the London embassy website, it's not there.

United KingdomK-1 interview questions?

How and when did you meet

have you met any family members, who, ages etc

Why go to US and not here (UK)

have they been married before

Do they have any kids

What do they do (job)

Its all just stuff anyone in a relationship would know, pretty informal, done in 2 parts, first bit is going through paperwork that has been brought in, then wait, then the interview. about 10-15 mins for each part.

Good place to look is in the reviews people have written including myself.

Will CBP interrogate you about medical stuff? My fiancé had depression and self harm in the past but is OK now. Will they give him a hard time?

No they will not. They are immigration and customs. Please stop worrying about every mortal thing, there is no need.

I believe your fiancee has had his medical and passed so thats that for now. All CBP will do is check all the bits of paper are in the envelope and then stamp him in and forward the paperwork on.

nobbieMaleUnited Kingdom2014-05-25 09:29:00
United KingdomK1 Visa Sealed Envelope

all the paperwork you have already submitted plus your medical report. Apart from the medical nothing you have not already seen.

Nothing mysterious about it, just their way of using you to get the paperwork to the US. CBP will open it at POE, check it and they will forward it to USCIS.
