I recently had my medical done for K3 visa and have an upcoming interview at the Montreal consulate.

I wanted to know if the medical results are discussed in front of spouse if he/she is present during the interview, especially any questions regarding my previous medical history which i think is very private and personal matter. It would be quite embarrasing if I was asked some questions about this past issue in front of my spouse.

If anyone can provide any feedback, it would be appreciated.

You bring up a very interesting question. As a Health Care Provider, the Doctor who did your medical interview and evaluation is likely limited to sharing the information with the Consulate and yourself, and you probably consented to that by signing all that paperwork. But the Consular officer is not a Health Care Provider, so he/she is probably not limited in that regard. I imagine (or at least hope) that anything medically sensitive in your past would either be addressed by the examining Doctor, and handled appropriately by the Consular officer. And as Kathryn said, if it had any bearing on your eligibility to immigrate, I'm sure you would know by now.

I am the USC living here in Canada and I long for all the food in the states... I was craving taco bell the other day... we have one in Sudbury but its just over an hour away in a mall so they are not open 24-7. I LUV Outback Steak house...Olive Garden... yummy.
We have Red Lobster here, but I wasnt too impressed, maybe I was just there on a bad day.
My husband has only been to the states once. (California) and he can't wait to go back and have "roach coach" lol those big burritos from the taco truck that cost a couple bucks. Jeeze now I am hungry!!

LOL...Reeena, that's so funnny! There is absolutely NO MEXICAN FOOD here in Sudbury that bears any resemblance to what I'm used to in the States, and it kills me! I figured out that in the last calendar year I've been in Sudbury for 24 weeks, all without Mexican food sad.gif Whenever I get back to the US all I make is Mexican food.

The Red Lobster comment was funny too...when I lived in Phoenix we ate there a lot, and I was so excited to see one in Sudbury, and I hounded my wife to go for so long...boy was I dissapointed! And it was even worse because I had to listen to "I told you so!"

laughing.gif

Red Lobster in Canada SUX!!!!! I've never been to one in the States. But my husband doesn't like them, either, so I'm assuming they're the same.

Mexican food.... yeah, uhhhh..... . I'll eat it if I have to. But definitely not from Taco Hell.

once you have had real Mexican food.. Taco Bell's ####### seems even worse.. I will not ever go back to Taco Bell if i can help it tongue.gif....

There's a time and place for everything. And Taco Bell's was during college when coming home at 4am...

Ooo...Red Lobster in the South is good though...at least it was in Texas. But you have Joe's Crab Shacks in Florida..."Joe's Got Crabs!!"

I'm the USC and I've been to Red Lobster and Joe's Crab Shack here in Texas. I didn't really care for either of them, but then again, it's been years since I've been there. The last really good "regular" seafood restaurant I've been to was Truluck's (no t-shirt, jeans, sneakers; you need to dress nice and if you're going on a weekend, reservations are a must!) and for "cajun" I recently went to Denis's, which is far more relaxed than Truluck's (although I'd recommend against wearing shorts).

The thing to remember about a city like Houston is that it's right near the Gulf of Mexico so we have access to a lot of seafood (the number of seafood restaurants here is practically limitless) and since we're so close to Louisiana, we have tons of cajun places too. That's one thing I'll definitely miss when I go to Vancouver is the lack of good cajun, since I'm accustomed to having it whenever I want. I'm positive Vancouver has some fantastic restaurants (I love sushi, so I'm set in that capacity), but I've heard that cajun is difficult to get in Canada.

You never know about Cajun though, because we have an awesome cajun place way up in Alaska. The owner was given the key to the City of New Orleans smile.gif But the problem with a lot of cajun wannabe places is that they think the hotter the food is, the more authentic it must be.

You would have been ashamed to see the crawfish they had at the Red Lobster here in Sudbury.

I love Texas food...a friend of mine in College Station took us to the most out of the way places and they were unbelieveable!

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Fiance' Turned away
My wife got one of these. There were specific instructions on the bottom telling her (and me) that she was not allowed into the US until she had a visa in hand.

If you didn't go before a judge in an actual immigration hearing, it's kind of like a warning. If you had gone before a judge, then you would be in a lot more trouble.

That particular CBP agent, and the officials at the US Embassy in Toronto both told us that it should not have any effect on her K-3 application as long as she doesn't attempt to circumvent its instructions before the visa is issued.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresJust Curious
Sorry...I started another thread on the same subject. My lawyer told me that he sent my information in, but has yet to hear anything. He suspects that it is because so many people filed to avoid the fee increase it overloaded the system. I'm hoping he was telling me the truth unsure.gif

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCanadian Fiance and US Fiance - K3
Do not say you are getting married in the US!! Like others have said, just tell them you are visiting friends or family.

Have your return ticket, evidence of occupation, mortgage statement, lease, etc, that shows them you intend to return to Canada...doubtful you will need any of this, but it never hurts to have.

If you wish to cross back into the US after you get married, I would still not even mention that you are married to an American. I would still say that I was only visiting friends. My wife and I went through the same thing you are describing, and when she mentioned she was returning to the US with her husband (me) they asked for her Permanent Resident Visa. Since we didn't have it yet, she was denied admission, photographed, fingerprinted, and her CDN passport was flagged. She had to sign paperwork that said she would not visit the US until her status was changed. Now we're stuck waiting for her K-3 to go through and trying to figure out if there is a loophole where she can visit me in the US before the K-3 is finalized.

FYI, the customs officer in Toronto told us that it would have been easier if she would have just stayed in the US (illegally) after we were married and filed the paperwork from the States.

Best of Luck!!
Good luck!!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDo I have a right to take my paperwork from my lawyer?
QUOTE (G&A @ Sep 8 2007, 08:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
btw, is your spouse closer to Vancouver or Montreal? Do you know which consulate you stated on your petitions? The reason i ask is that you may be at a disadvantage going the CR1 route as they are only processed in slow Montreal. If this your consulate for the K-3 is Montreal anyways, than the impact is not as bad but if your K-3 is going to Vancouver, i would not go the CR1 route. hope this makes sense.

I'm going to meet with him on Monday and ask him if this is standard practice to sit on paperwork for 6 weeks. Unbelieveable. I'll be asking for the paperwork and a change of representation if he doesn't have an explanation for it. Thanks for the advice
I understand what you're saying about the change in Consulate. At this point, the Weasel has told us that the K-3 would be in Montreal. And that is what he had stated on the petitions. So either way, it appears that we're going thru Montreal.

If you signed a G 28 from the lawyer or stated on the aplication he will represent you will have to have him sent a letter to USCIS saying he no longer represents you and further communications should be sent to you.
That's what I did when I fired my lawyer.
He sent me all the paperwork. That is the paperwork he hadn't lost!!!! blink.gif
All talk a no action.

Thanks! Did you find that you had better luck going solo?

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDo I have a right to take my paperwork from my lawyer?
My lawyer (the Weasel)'s office assured me that my wife's I-129 was sent in the middle of July, but after receiving yet another bill from their office, it appears that it wasn't actually sent until August 21st.

As I learn more about the process here on VJ, I lose faith in the Weasel's ability to move my wife's paperwork through the system more efficiently than I could do it. While I'm sure he will eventually get it done, my incentive to get my family here is a little higher than his-he already has his retainere and my case is another file in a stack.

If I request to drop him and work the remainder of the process with the assistance of VJ, do I have a legal right to take my entire file or make copies of it? If I can do that, how do I notify the SC that I no longer wish for him to represent me?

As soon as I get a case number from my I-129F NOA1, I will be able to track it online and keep better tabs on the Weasel and his office. I've already gotten an email account set up for the I-130 so I can track that. (We may go the CR-1 route anyway) So I have half a mind to stay with the Weasel and just continually drop by his office every time I see a touch or action on the CIS website.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

in a word.... INEFFICIENT... that is my say on it... they should do planning if they know the population will increase... expansion does take more money (then charge more, lots of K3 people are willing to pay more to have faster approval times)...

I wasn't complaining about my timeline... but for all the people that applied.. no need to get mad at me, perfect.. just throwing out ideas... I wasn't mad at you too, just mad at the inefficient system that they have... I (and everyone here) know they can do MUCH BETTER than this.. for example, system go down and they stop processing applications... they should have a backup for that and switch over right away... (RAID Mirroring system??).. or at least have real-time processing times... what is their 6 MONTHS time now? like my previous topic, I think that they are getting lazy with that timeline... I can put 5 YEARS there, and that means we can't contact them for 5 years? give me a break...

LOL...if you think government=efficiency, you haven't lived here long enough.

This too shall pass...

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAnyone file in July?
hi all...we filed our I-130 in June and got back a receipt 2 weeks, later. My lawyer wacko.gif assured me that he would file the I-129 immediately, and I hounded him a couple of times before coming out here to Ontario to see my wife. I've got a sneaking suspicion he sat on the I-129 until the last minute, but he told me that he sent it but hasn't received confirmation because of the huge backlog due to the fee change. Has anyone gotten any notice after sending July paperwork? I guess I'll find out for sure when he hands me the bill with the I-129 filing fee... crying.gif

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAdvice: is it a good idea to pay a lawyer for help with K-3?
I just fired mine. He was a weasel who didn't care one bit about our situation and actually extended our timeline. If you do decide to hire one, check as many out as you can. Ask around, and definitely meet them in person. If I had to do it over, I would just use the great resources and personal experience of the people on VJ. I just didn't know about it at the time...

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresANOTHER FIRE THE LAWYER THREAD
The paperwork is yours. He can make a copy if he wishes. I would also ask for money back. If I would have found VJ before hiring my lawyer, I would have just done the process myself before wasting the time and money on someone who didn't care about my case.
